Start the computer recovery system. Four ways to restore your system. Recovering a defective master boot record.

Welcome all. Usually, if you encounter problems starting the operating system or turning off the lights during operation, the next time the system boots, a list of possible starts appears.

In order not to mislead you and teach you some nuances, I will share some very useful tips. So, if the system did not boot and provided a boot option, then I recommend choosing the following option - Last Known Good Configuration or downloading the last successful configuration.

System recovery, by returning to previous recovery points

If you need these applications, you need to install them again in the operating system. Therefore you better do backup  interval systems. Thus, the system can be restored to last stateto avoid reinstallation a large number  applications after system recovery.

In safer cases, it is enough to return to the old recovery points or “safe mode”. You must accept this until a technical problem occurs after a recent driver installation or software  or after the setup prompt. You can also select older recovery points if you cannot determine the cause of the problem. Any further software that has nothing to do with this problem but was installed from the selected recovery point has also been fixed.

This start option cancels any changes made to the registry key. Currentcontrolsetthat directly caused the problem.

This registry key determines the values \u200b\u200bof the hardware parameters as well as all the drivers installed in the system. Function loading last successful configuration  will replace the contents of the above registry key with the data stored in the backup that was used during the last successful launch of Windows.

Anyone who wants to be sure of the scope before the action can click on the “After infected programs” option after selecting a recovery point. Therefore, we recommend a little delay in starting up the system and pseudo-multi-boot work. They create administrator rights and commands on the command line. The second entry in the boot manager, which starts the same system. So there is always time to get to the repair.

This mode is an ideal tool for creating drivers and software from the system. However, in safe mode»You can also restore the system as in a regular system, and you can return to an earlier restore point, as described in paragraph 1. This means that you can only run 64-bit software. If you call 32-bit software, you will get an error message that is clearest on the command line: "The subsystem necessary to support the image type does not exist."

Reboot the computer. After the beep, press the F8 key and hold it until the menu for selecting the start of the operating system appears. From the list of startup options that appears, select and activate it by pressing "Enter".

A pre-installed alarm system on the hard drive always has the same architecture as the main system. Therefore, keep additional tools, such as always available in the correct version. This technically corresponds to the repair, as described in paragraphs 1 and 2. Here, however, this external second system performs this action. This point is important if the message “System not found” is displayed on your computer or just a black screen and activity on the hard disk. If the "start" fails, i.e. installed system  does not load even after the next restart, use the “hint” of the alarm system and enter the following three commands.

Remember, you are given one single attempt to restore the last successful system configuration.

In general, if you were unable to restore the system after starting the OS from mode, this means only one thing - the backup is damaged. In this case, this recovery method will not help us.

1 Recovery Console

This method involves using the utility. Recovery console. The more complex the problem of loading the operating system, the more serious should be the approach to solving it. Bootable cd with installation system usually contains a very useful utility - Recovery Console

Independence through external “system repair data carriers”

However, depending on the age of this image, this repair is almost equivalent to a repair installation. After clicking “Next”, the alarm system is written to the selected storage medium. Therefore, it is not possible to deploy a second system. These should be command line tools or portable graphics programs that do not have registry information.

Restore registry using secondary system

Also pay attention to the corresponding software architecture - 32 bits or 64 bits. User files are saved. The motive for this action should not be system repair, but the transfer or sale of the device. If you know exactly where the registry error occurred, you need the repair method described below. For all common startup problems that may be related to the registry, it will be easier and easier for you to return to an earlier restore point. In the dialog that appears, you can download the registry file from the main system.

To autorun a bootable Windows CD, place the drive in the DVD-CD and reboot the computer. As soon as the computer restarts, the drive starts reading data from the disk, you will see a dialog box of the setup and installation wizard.

This will happen if you are in the BIOS settings in boot priority "Boot first device"  You put DVD / CD-ROM. I wrote more about this in the article -. As soon as the download starts, follow all the instructions that appear on the screen.

You can edit them as usual. We have summarized the most important innovations in this video. Then set new installation. Now this is the end: protect your system so that even violent operator errors or a device defect do not affect it. A freshly prepared run is round and fast, as one, and therefore it must remain for a long time.

Recovery of damaged boot sector HDD

Installed applications create a registry and disks - and more and more temporary materials are taking their place. After that, you only need to back up your personal documents and multimedia files. A volume cleanup shows which files can be deleted.

The program will provide you with a selection of basic files for launching the installation program. The installation wizard welcomes you with the phrase "Welcome To Setup". Now it remains to press the key "R" which helps to open the recovery console.

Now you are presented with the recovery console dialog box. Here we will see a folder with files and also a request to select operating system  with which you plan to start working.

Restoring a backup image also works when you need to replace system disk  due to a disk failure. Go to the "System and Security, Backup and Restore" section in the control panel and click "Create a system image". An assistant will guide you through this process.

Then you indicate which sections should contain backup. Put a checkmark in front of the desired drives. You will now see an overview of the backup that you start with “Start Backup.” On the left, select Create System Image and follow the instructions in the wizard. In, image capture is integrated into the file version. Then go to “System Capture” in the lower left. Click Backup and Restore, and then click Create System Restore Disk.

Next, you have to press a key with a number corresponding to the number of the operating system, then the program will ask for the administrator password, if any. Well, now you have full access to the command line.

In more detail about how to work with the recovery console I wrote in the article -

3 Repair boot.ini boot file corruption

At the initial stage of starting Windows, the Ntldr program accesses the boot file Boot.ini. As a result, the program determines the location system files  and available options to continue downloading.

Personalization or synchronization of your personal data

Open the control panel and go to "Restore". Click Create Drive and follow the instructions in the wizard. Using the "Select by user" you define the folders to save. It supports all backup volumes that can be accessed through a separate drive letter. You replace placeholders with the names of the required folders.

As part of the diagnostic test, on the General tab, you can eliminate many of the original sources of errors. At the top of the screen, click Go. It also allows you to back up your image backup if necessary. Then select your computer repair options and Troubleshooting.

That's exactly why, in case of damage to the boot file Boot.ini, the operating system cannot correctly continue or even start the download.

In the event that Windows does not boot and the cause of this is a damaged file Boot.ini  then the recovery console toolkit item will help you - Bootcfg.

To start it Bootcfg  You will of course need to start the system from the boot windows drive  XP. In order to run the command Bootcfgneed to be entered in command line  management console: Bootcfg / parameter

Use restore points

This will save you from reinstalling the operating system if you have problems installing software or drivers. We explain how to create recovery points, reboot the system, and what kind of data is contained in the backup. Based on recovery points, the operating system is reset to an earlier point in time.

Automatically create recovery points

Create a recovery point manually. This deletes your personal files, installed applications  and drivers and personal settings changes. This removes all personal files, installed applications and drivers, and personal settings changes. It removes installed applications and drivers, as well as settings that you changed, but you can decide whether you want to delete or save your personal files. On the License Terms page, select I accept the license terms when you agree to the license terms, and then select Next. On the Select Installation Type page, select Custom. When formatting is complete, select Next.
  • If the reset does not work, you can also.
  • Choose.
  • Done.
  • Then select "Recover Computer."
  • On the Select Option screen, select Troubleshoot.
  • Try again.
  • Select Install Now.
This saves your personal files.

Where / parameter  - This is one of the functions that I will tell you about now.

Add  - produces hard scan  drive for all installed operating systems. In addition, it adds identifiers for new operating systems to boot file Boot.ini.

Scan  - scans hard drive  for the presence of all installed operating systems.

If the "Return" option is not available

However, the applications and drivers, as well as the settings that you changed, are deleted that you installed or installed after the update. To revert to a previous version, follow these steps: All personal files, applications, drivers, and settings that you have installed are deleted. This will not delete your personal files, but will delete previously installed applications and drivers and restore their default values.

If you are having problems with your computer, you can upgrade, restart, or restore it. Personal files and settings are saved. However, your files, settings, and applications are deleted, except for those applications that were pre-installed on your computer. In the section "Configuring a disk for file history" After you start the process of updating or rebooting the computer, this process will be performed in most cases.

List  - displays a list of entries in the file Boot.ini.

Default  - displays the identifier of the operating system which at startup

Rebuild  - completely restores the boot file Boot.ini. The user is given the opportunity to control every step.

Redirect  - in the administration mode, this function allows you to redirect the execution of loading operations to another specially designated port. It has several subparameters, or rather two: | ./Disableredirect - Disables redirection.

Updating your computer without compromising your files. All personal files are deleted and settings are reset. All installed applications are uninstalled. You must choose whether to delete data quickly or completely. When data is quickly erased, some data can be restored using special software. Complete data deletion takes longer. However, it is less likely that the data can be recovered.

To restore the state of a previous computer

You can also manually create a recovery point at any time. In the "Search" field, enter "Control Panel" and click "Control Panel" or "Control Panel". Here are the solutions that other users have found for their problems.

Legacy Operating System Information

  • Swipe the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
  • In the Search area, enter Restore, and then click Restore.
  • Restore system recovery and follow the instructions.
After the deadline, recovery no longer works.

It is worth noting that in Windows Xp and Windows 7 boot.ini is formed in different ways. On the topic boot.ini for XP and 7, I wrote several articles:

4 Recovering a defective master boot record

The main boot record uses the first sector of the hard drive and performs the boot procedure for Windows XP. The record has a table of all available hard disk partitions and a small program "Primary bootloader"  The primary loader, in turn, is responsible for placing the active or boot sectors in the partition table.

Windows Recovery Options

Then go to the Update and Security menu. After that, the program will inform you that you should archive important data as much as possible. After the change, some applications and programs must be reinstalled. In addition, you must keep your old Passwordif anyone forgave you. Another window indicates that you can return at any time. Then confirm recovery. Despite the previous download, the program reloads all the files necessary for installation during the new update process.

At the end of the placement in the table, the boot sector starts the operating system. If suddenly the boot record is damaged, the active sector will not be able to start the system.

In order to fix this problem, the Fixmbr program is provided in the recovery console. We boot from the installation disk and activate the recovery console.

Should I disable recovery?

Despite the fact that this article describes a reset option with storing or deleting a user's personal files, it often happens that the user only notifies later that there are no necessary files after a system reset. Selecting the “Delete All” function during a system reset in the initial state, the system disk on your computer is completely deleted, and all user personal files, applications, and settings are deleted from it. Of course, you can reset the system while saving your personal files, but if files and data are important on your computer, we recommend that you back up these files.

In order to run the Fixmbr command, you need to enter the command line of the management console: Fixmbr

Where   - the composite name of the drive that needs to create a new master boot record. The composite name for the main boot disk C: \\ will take the following form: \\ Device \\ HardDisk0

5 Recovery of damaged boot sector HDD

The boot sector is a small hard section  a drive reserved for data storage in the operating system, having file system  NTFS or FAT32, as well as a rather small program that helps in the process of loading the operating system.

In the event that the system refuses to start precisely because of inoperability boot sector  the recovery console tool can help you Fixboot. To do this, download installation disk  and go to the recovery console menu.

In general, I have already indicated how to do this. In order to run this program  you will need to enter the following in the command line of the management console: Fixboot:

Where  is the drive letter that requires the creation of a new boot partition.

6 Quick Reinstall Windows

In the event that it is not possible to start the system and you do not have a backup, it is possible to perform a quick reinstall of Windows.

This procedure involves reinstalling the operating system in the same directory (similar to updating old version  system to a newer one) and is able to fix almost any Windows boot problem.

Put boot disk  into the DVD / CD drive, then restart the computer. After the disk is recognized and reading begins, you can begin the installation procedure. During the installation, a license agreement appears.

In order to agree with the terms of the agreement, press the F8 key. Next, the program will scan all installed versions  Windows As soon as at least one of the versions is found, the installation screen appears.

In order to start the recovery of the version of the system you need, click "R", and to start the installation "Esc". System recovery procedures will start. Now the installation wizard starts checking the disks for operability, and then begins a quick reinstall.

Remember, after reinstalling or recovering a damaged installation, all updates will have to be reinstalled.

7 How to cancel automatic reboot

As a rule, if an error occurs during stable operation of the system, the operating system automatically reboots.

When an error occurs immediately at startup, a cycle of endless reboots occurs. In this case, you need to disable the automatic system reboot function in the event of a failure.

At the beginning of the operating system start or after POST, press the F8 key, which will open the menu in front of you "Extra options".

Next, select "Turn off automatic reboot when system crashes"  and activate it by pressing "Enter". Now now that Windows XP at startup will display an error message, the essence of which will tell us about the malfunction.

We restore the Windows operating system from a backup.
If not one of the ways to restore the system helped you, then there is a chance to restore the OS using a backup copy (if you have one).

The recovery algorithm is completely dependent on the program with which you are backing up, which provides you with all the necessary instructions.

Conclusion

There can be many ways to recover, and there can be many reasons why Windows does not boot. The main thing is that the system is mainly recoverable and you do not have to perform it. That's all. I wish you a successful deal with the problem.

Have installed new programfollowed by the operating system Windows 7  it works incorrectly? Uninstalling the ill-fated application did not bring the desired result? We decided to roll back to one of the recovery points, and wasn’t it? Not sure what to do? Let's look for a solution together.

First of all, check if your Windows 7  system protection. Go to the Start path → right-click Computer → Properties → System Protection
Security Settings»You will see a list of disks, in front of each it is indicated whether protection is enabled or not (immediately after installation Windows 7  protection is enabled only for the disk on which the operating system is installed).
Now left click on desired drive  and click "Configure"
A window will open, where in paragraph " Recovery Options"Mark" Restore system settings and previous versions  files". Then click OK and create the first recovery point by clicking on the "Create" button in the "System Protection" tab.

Now let's move on to difficult cases. For example, what should I do if, following the path Computer → Properties → System Protection, you simply did not find the “System Protection” tab, or did you get errors when switching to it?
The most likely reason for this behavior Windows 7  - system damage. Most likely, you installed a new operating system on top of the old one.
Log in Windows 7  out of account  with administrator rights and check if the service " Shadow Copy Software Provider» ( Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider) To do this, call the Task Manager → the “Services” tab → the “Services” button. The above service should either work or be installed “Manual”.
Open a command prompt (Win + R key combination) and enter sfc / scannow, to check. Windows 7  for errors.
We will analyze the second case when the system protection is disabled, and the “Settings” and “Create” buttons cannot be pressed.
In addition to the actions specified for the first case, call the Run command and enter gpedit.msc
Run as administrator command line  and execute " gpedit.msc". In the opened " Local editor group policy »Follow the branch Computer configurationAdministrative Templates  → System → System Restore. Check the lines " Disable configuration"And" Disable System Restore". For them, the “Status” column should indicate “Not set”.

After the actions taken, system recovery problems   must decide. Have a good work!
