Description of the smartphone LG K5 (2016)

In March 2016, the Korean company LG Electronics announced the budget model of the LG K5 smartphone at a very affordable price. As in other models of this line, the LG K5 smartphone model has a concept curved screen, as well as some characteristics inherent in the flagships of the company. The front panel consists of a 5-inch display with a conventional TFT-matrix, with a very modest resolution, which was 480x854 pixels and 196 ppi. There is no need to talk about viewing angles, which can be expected from an ultra-budget device. In addition, the screen has not received a protective coating against mechanical stress.

Nevertheless, it is worth praising the manufacturer for the convenient placement of the keys, we mean the volume rocker, which is located on the left side edge. Concerning back cover model smartphone LG K5 - it is stylized "under the metal", of course, that it is made of plastic, exactly like the frame around the screen. The body of the smartphone model received a thickness of 8.8 millimeters, in addition, thanks to the rounded edges, the device is very convenient to use.

In order to perform everyday tasks, the LG K5 smartphone model has a MediaTek MT6582 quad-core processor, and its Cortex-A7 cores operate at a clock speed of 1.3 GHz, where the Mali-400MP2 coprocessor is responsible for the graphics. On top of that, the device received 1 GB random access memory, as well as 8 GB internal storage. You can expand the permanent memory using a microSD memory card within 32 GB, and there is one very positive thing that you should pay attention to. As for the memory card slot, which is separate, no hybrid trays, there are two separate slots to support two Micro-SIM cards.

The LG K5 smartphone model has a 5-megapixel main camera with f / 2.8 aperture, autofocus and LED flash. In addition, selfies can be taken using the 2-megapixel front camera.

The device was supplied with a "clean" operating system"out of the box" Android 5.1.1 (Lollipop), as for the pre-installed software, its amount is minimal. The removable battery received a modest 1,900 mAh, and the colors are presented in such options as titanium, gold and silver. You can buy the LG K5 smartphone model at a price of 90-110 EUR.

In the near future, the Russian consumer will be lucky to see on the shelves of their native stores a representative of the budget K-series from the company under the proud name of K5. The model does not set itself super-tasks, but is designed to be a daily assistant and relieve boredom, for example, through active selfing anytime and anywhere, especially since it is enough to use just a single hand gesture.

Historical aspect

It would be interesting to know what prompted the manufacturer to turn back the clock and again recall the usual and good-natured operating room Android system 5.1 Lollipop? Perhaps the potential has not yet been fully revealed, and now it's time to show it in all its glory? However, this is only an assumption, while the facts indicate that the designers have worked out the entire K line very well and this is just one reason not to question the value for money. As it seems in appearance LG K5 some features of the LG G4 are reflected, but in general, we again have a well-known image of glossy pebbles in silver, gold and gray.

Nostalgia

In addition to the OS version, the absence of an LTE module also attracts attention, which is not at all surprising for a large K-family consisting of five electronic offspring, because in such cases, usually each “child” lacks something. The model brings the 5-inch display with a resolution of 854x480p closer to the classic models.

The vision of our hero is also a match for class: the main camera with an autofocus mechanism and with the support of an LED flash takes pictures with a resolution of 5 megapixels, and the front camera is even more modest - 2 megapixels. The capabilities of the 1900 mAh battery willy-nilly make you remember the times when having a smartphone in your pocket was generally considered a luxury, so the developers can only be thanked for trying not to break the threads of gadget history and adding new links to it.

Maybe yes or definitely yes?

In terms of possibilities, a full consensus is hardly achievable, since different comparisons divide the public into uneven parts. It is obvious that processors, called inexpensive ones, are becoming more powerful and their resource for a classic set of tasks significantly exceeds the minimum threshold. On Lji K5 the 4-core chipset MediaTek NT6735 with a frequency of 1.3 GHz has taken root. The 1 GB RAM looks like it will have to be strained to the fullest, thanks to which it will always remain in active state. 8 GB is allocated for flash memory, but in fact the user will have a little less. Fortunately, there is a lifesaver in the form of a MicroSD at hand.

You can be sure that any phone catalog will be happy to present this simple and therefore very popular model. We are waiting for the release of the maestro-selfie and the publication of other yet unknown details, especially since the main sales volumes of the phone will fall on the countries of Europe, Latin America and the CIS.

Removable

Today we present to your attention a review of LG k5, which has a second name - x220ds. By the way, the abbreviation DS means that the phone is "dual SIM". This smartphone belongs to the budget segment, since its price in the year of release fluctuated around 4.5 thousand rubles. What does the manufacturer offer for this money?

LG K5 comes in an interesting box, made in white and orange colors. Inside is:

  • device;
  • warranty card;
  • User's Manual;
  • battery;
  • USB adapter with top exit;
  • MicroUSB cable for connecting to a computer and charging;
  • adapter for charging from the mains with a USB interface.

Headphones are not included, so you have to buy them separately.

Appearance

Now let's look at Fl k 5 in more detail. The back cover of the state employee is made of glossy plastic, which looks pretty good. Available in two colors - dark gray and gold.

The controls are placed along the edges, and not in one block on the rear panel, as in the new LG models. Many users find it much more convenient to use the gadget. A return to the origins can be attributed to the pluses of the design. It is worth praising the developers, including for the competent arrangement of the buttons.

On the right side there is a button to turn the device on and off. Above is a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. On the left is the volume button. Below is a port for microUSB-charging, as well as a microphone.

On the front side above the display is front-camera, speaker, proximity and lighting sensors. Below the display is the company logo.

If you turn the phone over, you can see the peephole of the main camera and the LED flash. The back cover is removable, but at the same time it sits quite firmly in the grooves, so even if it falls it will not fly off. Under the back cover is a 1900 mAh battery, two microSIM card slots and a microSD card slot for memory expansion, supporting up to 32 GB.

The case of LG k5 is framed by a plastic frame under the metal, but in fact it is painted plastic. On the back cover there is a pattern imitating brushed metal. Unlike the display, it hides fingerprints well.

Screen

The state employee has a 5-inch display, which is very poor quality. Although they say that an IPS matrix is installed here, it looks more like a QFC. If you look at the display from above, then there is a noticeable inversion, which is not observed from other sides.

The resolution is only 854 by 480 pixels, which is very small for this size. It would be useful if there was at least HD. Unfortunately, the smartphone does not have a light sensor, so the brightness will have to be adjusted manually. The touch keys are directly on the display. "Multi-touch" supports only two touches.

The display is not protected against mechanical impact, so it easily attracts prints. When purchasing, you should take care of protection. Film or glass here will be mandatory for purchase.

The result is disappointing, because even cheaper devices have better screens.

Processor, OS and autonomy

LG k5 has a quad-core Mediatek processor 6580m which runs at 1.3 GHz. Video accelerator - Mali400MP. The quality of the hardware this smartphone inferior even Meizu M3. And almost twice.

RAM 1 GB, which is now insanely small. Built-in memory - 8 GB, of which only 3.5 GB is available to the user. But as mentioned earlier, it can be further expanded.

The budget worker is under control android version 5.1. It is a completely "naked" shell with minimal pre-installed applications. There are no complaints about the speed of the "shell". Nothing gets lost and does not change places, it works perfectly.

Will such technical characteristics be able to pull modern games? In GTA San Andreas and Asphalt 8 will have to drastically cut down the graphics for a comfortable game. The same situation will be in almost all "heavy" games. The gadget cannot be called a gaming gadget, but in games it behaves adequately.

Let's talk a little about autonomy. The battery is the weakest point here, because the device has less than 2000 mAh. Somehow not enough. Although the screen is not very demanding and the hardware is more or less, the phone lasts for a maximum of one day with average use.

Camera

Lzh k 5 has two cameras: the main one is 5 megapixels and the front one is 2 megapixels. And both of them are not equipped with autofocus. Another disadvantage of this device.

The photographs are not good at all.

Photos are a little blurry. The text cannot be removed, as it becomes unreadable. Also, pictures in poor lighting conditions are very poor. Selfies are not worth talking about at all. An example of such a picture can be seen below.

The settings are all standard. You can turn on geotargeting and adjust the contrast. There are scene programs - "Auto", "Night", "Sunset", "Party", white balance. Flicker suppression is available.

On the main camera, the pictures are in 4 to 3 format, on the front camera in full screen. There are also lower resolution modes - 3 MP, 2 MP and 1.3 MP.

Video is recorded in HD format, that is, in a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels. One touch shooting is supported.

Flaws

LG k5 turned out to have a huge number of shortcomings, which cannot be ignored, as the manufacturer saved on things that could not have been saved on:

  • The speaker does not like the fact that he is alone. The speaker is used to play music and calls.
  • The build quality, as for a large company like LG, is extremely negatively surprising for many users, since it is average. For example, the lid is completely closed, but very quickly begins to move away in the area of the volume buttons.
  • The amount of memory. Of the declared 8 GB, 3 GB were expected to be available, but in fact there are even fewer of them. Only the essentials are placed on them. If you put some kind of capacious game, then there will simply not be enough memory. The reason lies in the fact that all applications are installed on the internal memory, and it is simply impossible to transfer them to the card.
  • The camera settings are made very badly, as they constantly go astray when closing.
  • The video camera is "quiet horror." Again, the problem is how the software for this device, which is responsible for video recording, is made. Even through engineering menu it is not possible to change the ISO value manually. You set it, but the settings are not saved. Many users have encountered this for the first time.

Results

LG k5 is a budget smartphone. You can find fault with it ad infinitum, but the price speaks for itself. It is well suited for a child or as a gift to parents. The advantages include big screen and support for 2 Sim-cards, otherwise there are many minuses.

Video

The LG K5 X220 was released in 2016 and is positioned as a budget model with a slim and stylish body, special features for selfies, and a bright 5” display. Whether the smartphone corresponds to its positioning by the manufacturer - we will figure it out during this review. In stores you can buy an average of 115 - 124 dollars. Prices are taken from well-known and popular stores, and are current at the time of writing this review.

There is also a model LG Q6, with a similar design and specifications, only a slightly different processor, as well as the presence of 4G. But, apparently, Q6 is not sold in our area, and is intended for the Western market. This review will focus on the LG K5 with the X220 ds prefix.

The technical part of this smartphone was stuck somewhere in late 2014, early 2015, and corresponds to the budget models of that time.

Design

The appearance of the device clearly shares some similarities with the 2016 flagship LG G5.

Similar roundings on the sides, power and volume buttons migrated from the back cover back to the side ribs.

The back panel contains a pattern that imitates brushed metal. The case has a collapsible design, made of plastic. There are no touch buttons under the display, they are placed on the screen.

Dimensions: 141mm high, 71.6mm wide. The thickness of the case is 8.8 mm, the weight is modest - 120 g. The case can be in three colors: gray, gold and titanium.

CPU

At the head of the hardware is a 4-core processor MT6582, the maximum frequency of which is 1.3 GHz. This is a 2013 chip, which was still used in budget models. But the developers at LG were not embarrassed. The video chip Mali-400 MP2 is responsible for graphics processing.

In Antutu, iron is gaining about 24 thousand points. In practice, the smartphone works well, quite quickly copes with tasks of varying complexity. In everyday work, it shows excellent results, does not hang, and copes with all applications. Runs almost any 3D game. Naturally, resource-intensive game projects will start and work stably only due to a general decrease in the quality of textures and the absence of certain visual effects.

Memory

The amount of RAM is 1 GB. Someone will say that this is very small. And I will say that for a smartphone of this level, this is quite enough. Multiple applications can be run simultaneously without compromising performance.

Built-in storage capacity - 8 GB. This is enough for an economical user who can install everything in the 4 or 5 GB allotted to the user. necessary applications. If you need somewhere to store music and video - no problem. It is possible to install external drive MicroSD standard, with a maximum capacity of 32 GB.

Offline work

The battery is the weakest link in this smartphone, along with the camera. Its capacity is 1900 mAh. With moderately active use, it will hardly be enough for a day. That is, if in the morning the charge indicator showed 100%, by the evening or at night the device will “ask” for recharging. Many other smartphones, which have a slightly higher capacity, show much better autonomy. This may indicate poor optimization. software or LG K5 components. At least the battery is removable, in which case you can replace it.

Camera

The main 5-megapixel camera with aperture F / 2.8 is equipped with a flash. The quality of the resulting photos can be called very mediocre, given the requirements modern user. In general, as for a module with such characteristics, the pictures are quite normal. If you do not take into account the lack of autofocus. Without it, it is almost impossible to take a normal photo of text or scan a QR code. The maximum available resolution for recorded video is HD (1280 x 720).

The 2 MP front camera is well promoted on the manufacturer's website: shooting by gesture, virtual flash due to the backlight of the display: "Say goodbye to bad selfies." In fact, we have a very weak 2-megapixel module with F / 2.8 aperture, also without autofocus. As a result, we get very mediocre, often fuzzy and blurry pictures. Although, for video communication, the camera will still fit.

Display

The smartphone has a 5-inch display. The TFT LCD matrix is far from being of the highest quality; at a certain angle, color inversion is noticeable. The resolution is also quite low: FWVGA (854 x 480). At the same time, the pixel density is 196 PPI. However, as practice shows, you can use a smartphone with such a screen, the pixels are not particularly noticeable if you hold the device at arm's length. There is no light sensor, the brightness can only be adjusted manually.

According to the multi-touch test, the screen supports a maximum of 2 touches at the same time. Although this is a very low figure, two touches are enough to work: you can easily zoom while viewing a photo, a page in a browser, and a map when using navigation. Protective glass normal, not resistant to damage. The oleophobic layer, if any, is very weak, fingerprints remain abundantly across the entire front panel.

Networking

LG K5 is a dual SIM model (standard micro sim), with support for 2G and 3G networks. 4G networks are not supported. There is an FM radio if anyone is interested. Data transmission uses single-band Wi-Fi with WiFi support Direct, and Bluetooth version 4.0. Also available GPS navigator, with support for A-GPS accelerated cold start.

Sound

This model uses a combined speaker for calls and multimedia. It is located above the display. The solution is rather ambiguous. The volume of the multimedia speaker leaves much to be desired. However, in for the alarm clock and incoming call this is enough if you are not in a noisy place.

Software part

The smartphone runs on Android 5.1.1 (Lollipop). LG did not install its own shell, so we have an almost clean system, with a minimum amount of preinstalled applications. The OS is not loaded with junk, it works quickly and stably.

Individual characteristics

Only the combined main and conversational speaker can be attributed here.

Pros and cons of LG K5 X220

pros

In addition to the relatively low cost, it is difficult to single out anything that could be considered an advantage over other models of this level. Also from the pluses, you can highlight the build quality of the case. But minuses - more than enough.

Minuses:

  • Weak battery;
  • The main camera does not have autofocus;
  • The video is written only in HD resolution;
  • Weak viewing angles;
  • Missing 4G.

Who is a smartphone for?

LG K5 can be recommended to undemanding users who need relatively inexpensive smartphone from famous brand, with support for two SIM cards, a 5-inch display (not small and not very huge), a fresh OS, and a good appearance.
