Color profile for lomond photo paper. Instructions for using ICC profiles

In this article, you will learn how to edit the color profile of your printer on your own and without expensive equipment. This method is suitable for both regular photo printing and sublimation transfer, as in my case. So let's go! For the time being, I never thought about changing the color profile of my sublimation printer. The ink that I used initially conveyed colors perfectly and did not lie on default settings printer. And on various printed forums, pleas for help to deal with color reproduction came across every now and then. One face came out red, the other White color not white, but beige, and the third had a black fill that turned out to be dirty green. I was still wondering why people have all sorts of problems, so I filled in the ink and immediately everything worked. But, as they say, there is a first time for everything. After six months of work, I decided to change the sublimation ink to another manufacturer. And the printer remains the same. I bought ink and new refillable cartridges for them. I installed them in the printer, filled in the ink, printed a sample and went nuts - the faces became incredibly red, the gray color turned into green. Rushed to solve the problem. In the printer print settings on the tab Advanced went to the menu Color Correction (Color Controls) and, by clicking on the Settings button, went to the window where you can manually adjust one or another color using the sliders.

Helped a little. At least I was able to finish printing the order, which then “hung” on me.

But it was clear that it would not always work to set up the printer this way - the settings were too rough and not accurate. Then I remembered those members of the forum who were in the same situation as me. Their problems suddenly became so near and dear.

In a word, I began to look for the necessary information, which, by the way, turned out to be quite a lot on the Internet. True, the advice of various gurus was often quite contradictory. After collecting the right things, digesting and discarding the garbage, I managed to edit my color profile quite well. And now about how to do it, I want to tell you, my readers.

I will try to explain my actions in a simple, understandable language, supplementing my story with images. I think even a beginner can figure out the profile.

For starters, just a little bit of theory. What is a printer color profile?

talking plain language, a color profile is a set of printer commands written as a file. Thanks to the algorithm recorded in this file, the printer knows how much, what kind of ink and in what place of the printed sheet to pour it during operation.

You must have seen in the print settings window various modes - Glossy paper, Matte, Super glossy etc. Under each such setting, a separate color profile is hidden with a set of commands suitable for the selected paper type.

As long as you use original cartridges and photo paper recommended by the manufacturer, you will have no problems with printing. Photos will be of excellent quality. That's just the cost of these photos will strain you a little. Alas, the original consumables are very expensive.

Therefore, we have to look for an alternative on the side - to install and fill them with ink from third-party manufacturers. As a result, the cost of printing is pennies, but in return, problems with color reproduction may occur. After all, the manufacturer sharpens profiles for their ink and paper. He doesn't care about your problems with other people's ink.

Fortunately, the problem is easily solved by simply profiling the printer. And although many believe that this is a very complicated procedure that only specialists can do, I will try to prove the opposite to you. At home, this is within the power of everyone.

It is worth mentioning that for professional profiling, which uses an expensive spectrophotometer, this way no good. For professional profile settings with perfect color reproduction, you should contact the experts. Finding them on the Internet is very simple by typing the appropriate query in Yandex.

If your hands grow from the right place and you are satisfied with color correction, as they say, at the household level, then this article is for you. Read on and repeat after me.

The color profile is built for a specific printer, ink and paper. Keep this in mind and always use the same consumables and settings.

To print photos and pictures, we will use a bunch:

Printer - Ink - Paper

Here, the correction must be carried out, focusing on the final paper print.

For sublimation printing, a fourth link is added to our bundle:

Printer - Ink - Paper - Sublimation blank (fabric, mug, etc.)

In this case, we will correct the profile based on the print on this blank, and we WILL NOT pay attention to the paper print. I hope this is understandable.

So let's go!

To work, we need a program Adobe Photoshop and plugin for it Color DarkRoom. You can download the plugin from the manufacturer's official website. True, they ask 75 American rubles for it, but, I think, anyone who wants to easily find a cure for this problem on the net :) After downloading the plugin, we begin its installation. First, the plugin is installed in the folder with your OS, by default C:\Program Files\AMS\Color DarkRoom. Then, during installation, you need to specify the folder with the Photoshop plugins. This - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop\plugins or in older versions C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop\Plugins\Filter Now by running Photoshop program, open the color map with which we will edit our profile. go File--Open--C:\Program Files\AMS\Color DarkRoom\Color_Card.

The color map appeared in the program window.

It should be noted that the plugin Color DarkRoom works with profiles with *icm extension. If your profile has the *icc extension, it's okay - you just need the right one.

First of all, you need to find out which profile in this moment is using your printer. We go to the menu Start--Devices and Printers. On the printer we need, right-click and select the item

Now go to the "Color Management" tab and click the button with the same name:

If there are several profiles in this list, then we remember the name of the one next to which it is written in brackets (by default).

Now we need , if your file has it, like me *icс. All printer profiles used on your computer are stored in the folder C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color. We go into it, look for the profile we need (we remembered the name earlier) and in the same folder we save a copy of it with a different name. This is very important - do not touch the original profile, work with a copy! I called my profile - "T-shirts-Sublim-00". If necessary, change its extension. After that, the folder can be closed.

We need to print a color card with the original profile so we know which colors we will be adjusting. You can print absolutely from any editor, for example from Photoshop, by going File--Print:

Set the desired settings:

1- select your printer in the window;

2- set the position of the printed sheet;

3- uncheck "centered" and, using the mouse, place the image as you need;

4- zoom out so as not to waste paper and ink;

5- do not forget to set “printer controls color”, because we will print through the printer profile.

To profile a sublimation printer, as in my case, you also need to transfer images to a T-shirt, mug, or any other blank you need.

Before you start, you must place the ICC profile files in the appropriate folder (windows/system32/spool/drivers/color). Please note that after each addition of ICC profile files to the corresponding Windows folder you need to restart the graphic editor.

When printing an image, the following procedures must be followed:

1. IN graphics editor Adobe enter the Print with preview menu and set Color Management in the advanced options. In the Profile line, select the required ICC profile in accordance with the selected Lomond media. Set Intent to Perceptual. Send to print.

2. After selecting the desired printer, enter the "Properties" section. Set the print quality and type of paper you are using according to the table. In the "Color management" section, make the settings according to the selected profile type. If a profile of the second type is used, then it is necessary to disable color management by making the No Color Adjustment option active. If you use the first type of profile, it is advisable to leave the default settings in this section, and select the media type in accordance with the ending of the ICC profile file name. However, if you wish, you can change the brightness, saturation, contrast, hue, connect special features to improve the image.

Printer settings when printing

Example 1 You want to print on Lomond semi-gloss 170 g/m2 photo paper on an Epson Stylus Photo 1290 printer with Epson cartridges using a straight profile (with color management turned off in the printer driver). The first thing to do is to make sure that the ink in the cartridge you are using is original. To do this, without using ICC profiles, print a gray scale on Epson paper, making the appropriate settings in the printer driver. If the print has a really gray scale without color shades, you can continue working, and if not, the further result is unpredictable. Next, in the Adobe graphics editor, set the Lomond_Photo_170_Semi_Eps1290_InkEpson_NoColorAdjustment profile, and in the printer driver, disable color management (No Color Adjustment) and print. If it is necessary to correct the imprint, this can be done in a graphical editor.

Example 2 To print on the matte side of Lomond glossy-matte paper with a density of 180 g / m2 on an Epson Stylus Photo 900 printer with Lomond cartridges with the ability to correct the resulting prints, select the following ICC profile converter Lomond_Glossy_180_mattside_Eps900_InkLomond_PhotoQualiti in the printer driver by installing it in the Adobe editor. In the printer driver, select the media type - Photo Quality Ink Jet Paper and print quality - Photo. At the same time, you are presented possible use additional features printer driver to improve the quality of the resulting prints without editing the image itself.

Note. Please note that ICC profiles for Epson printers are intended for use in Adobe software products and may not work correctly in other cases. Profiles for other printers also work correctly under Windows.

Color profile - what is it? Why are color profiles needed?

Having bought a color Epson printer, Canon, etc., the user often does not suspect that the manufacturer has included printer profiling in the price of the printer, also called printer calibration in everyday life - the production of "color profiles" (profiles) for inks and papers of its brand.

What is a printer color profile? A color profile is a table of numbers that describe the color reproduction of a particular combination of "printer - ink - paper - print_mode - viewing_light". Each such combination has individual properties (characteristics): color gamut, dynamic range, etc. Accordingly, the profile describes in the language of numbers the possibilities of such a combination for use by a computer. The profile does not improve the characteristics of the materials, but informs the computer about the characteristics of the materials. The profile developer measures with special equipment on numerous color print samples the characteristics of the combination "printer - ink - paper - print_mode", and the profiling program corrects the obtained numbers (measurement results) according to the spectrum of a given typical viewing light source and arranges the numbers in a table in a certain format. This is usually the format of the ICC (International Color Consortium) standard. The ICC profile constructed in this way can be embedded in a specific image file or written into a separate "profile file" (*.icc, *.icm) for batch use by a printing program with various images. In both cases, the computer uses the numerical profile data to fine-tune the printer's performance. The more color samples measured when creating a profile, the more accurate the profile and the more accurate the color balance of the image printed with the profile.

The profile is a "digital reflection" of the color properties of the combination "printer - ink - paper - print_mode - viewing_lighting" and depends simultaneously on:

Constructive specifications printer (each copy of the printer has an individual "handwriting" of color printing)

The settings made in the printing program and in the printer management program - driver ("paper type", "print quality", "print speed", "print resolution", etc.)

The inks used in printing (inks different manufacturers form the image differently due to the difference in production technologies, materials, composition, etc.)

The paper used in printing (different brands and types of paper interact differently with inks and reflect light that a person perceives as a color image)

The available lighting when viewing the printout (the spectrum of the light source during viewing renders strong influence on human perception of color).

The computer adjusts the operation of the printer using the characteristics of the printer, ink, paper, and viewing light described in the ICC color profiles. For example, for an inkjet printer, the computer adjusts the "profile" supply of different colors of ink on paper in a given print mode, within the capabilities of this printer, ink and paper, so that under a given type of lighting, an image with the correct color balance is obtained on the printout. The color balance will be determined by the accuracy of the profile, and the visual quality of the print (saturation, contrast, detail) will be determined by the characteristics of the printer, ink and paper.

What if you want to print not with original Canon, Epson consumables, but with cheaper "non-native" inks, paints, papers from third-party manufacturers? (InkTec, OCP, Ink-Mate, Inko, Hameleon, Jet Print, InkMaster, Lomond, Privision, RDM, Revcol, Skyhorse, WWM, etc. etc.?) Then the original ICC color profiles you purchased together with the printer and saved as files to your computer during the installation of the printer driver will no longer work. After all, original color profiles were created for combinations of original ink and original papers. Therefore, for "non-original" inks and papers, when printing with original color profiles (as well as when printing with a completely disabled profile - with unadjusted color reproduction), the color balance on the printout will be distorted. For example, care gray color"in blue", the blue sky "in violet", people's faces "in green", etc. What to do?

you print a "target" on your printer and send us the prints by Russian Post

Upon receipt of your "target" prints, we measure their color gamut with special equipment. Based on the measurement results, we derive a color profile. We convert the reference photo by profile to the color space of your printer. We send you a profiled photo file via the Internet for verification printing - color proofing. (This photo can be printed, but the printer profile cannot be extracted from it)

You are printing a profiled photo. If you are satisfied with the proof print, please let us know.

We will send you an invoice for payment of the order and information on the payment procedure by e-mail

Payment possible Bank transaction to our current account from your bank account or by receipt at a bank branch in cash, or on the Internet without commission by VISA / VISA Electron, MasterCard / Maestro, MIR, or on the Internet from a Yandex.Money wallet.

you pay for the order in a convenient way for you and receive a profile from us in the form of an independent file

Along with the profile file, we send you reporting files via the Internet (color measurement protocol, measurement accuracy report, etc. - in the amount according to the selected tariff) and a detailed reference guide on using color profiles for photo printing from various programs.

Profiling time - from the date of receipt of your "target" fingerprints to the date of creation of the profile - an average of 2 business days (depending on the size of the order queue).

Please note - we DO NOT accept orders for profiling for sublimation and thermal transfer printing (where images are transferred from one surface to another when heated).

Each of us has come across the fact that when printing on paper, it seems to us that the colors of the photo have become darker, a lot of green, a lot of red, etc. when printing on non-original consumables. But, if you use INKSYSTEM ink and photo paper, you have the opportunity to download and install ICC profiles that significantly improve the color reproduction of the printed image (Profile is a file that is embedded in operating system) for your printer, MFP, or plotter model.

ATTENTION!

The site presents only examples of color profiles. To obtain an image of maximum quality, you need to download one of the available color profiles or take an A4 sheet and print a target for users according to instructions.

To build a professional color profile, we recommend downloading and printing the following targets: for A4 format and for format 10x15.

Then you need to return the finished target with a filled order form to the point of sale and we will build you an individual profile for your printer, for our photo paper.

Anyone who has ever dealt with printing with an inkjet printer must have found themselves in a situation where the resulting print, to put it mildly, did not match the expected result. It often happens that the color rendition from time to time absolutely does not correspond to the original. We will help you find a solution to such a difficult problem, moreover, it is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance.

What is the Inksystem color profile and its benefits

talking in simple words we need to develop a combination of grayscale algorithms and inks for a single printer, in which color shifts on the printout will be minimal. Moreover, the nature of the lighting in which the picture was taken should also be taken into account. It doesn't matter if it was a sunny or overcast day, whether the lighting was natural or the picture was taken under fluorescent lights. Finished photo 10x15 format should look as natural as possible. It can be seen even with the naked eye that copies made using original cartridges differ significantly from copies made on a printer with CISS. Moreover, both of these copies will not at all resemble the original.

According to popular opinion, copies made on a CISS printer cannot be good, because the CISS damages the head, low-quality ink is poured into it, and so on and so forth. But what about original cartridges? Why, then, do such copies not satisfy our requests? It's just that the whole point is not in the ink, which is completely identical, both in the originals and in the CISS; and certainly it’s not in the head, which the CISS installation cannot in any way spoil. The icc color profile is responsible for the color matching of the copy and the original. When manufacturing a printer, manufacturers flash an average color profile, which theoretically fits any printer. However, as you know, there are no two identical printers, even if they come from the same assembly line. The slightest inaccuracy in production leads to a noticeable decrease in print quality. Of course, if you are satisfied with the average complexion in your photo, then you should not worry. But you want to take everything from your printer to the maximum. I would like even printing photos for A4 format don't end up with a green face or purple hair. The color profile of the printer is an important detail in achieving the best result.. The correct icc color profile allows you to:

  • achieve natural color reproduction;
  • Get the most out of your printer
  • save resources for color proofing.

Create color profiles for any printer model

In order for the print result to be not average or even as close as possible, but ideal, color profiling should be carried out. In this case, it is necessary to take into account the peculiarities of all print parameters. This includes paper, ink, lighting, and the printer's own specifications.

In the original, this is a very painstaking process. You must color correct, then proofread, create your own epson color profile. An ordinary user is unlikely to be able to do this task. However, our company has gone to great lengths to make printing as easy as possible. On our website you can easily download a color profile for your printer model.

However, it is better to order an ICC profile individually. To do this, you do not need to take the printer to service center. You can download ICC profile installation manual (.doc) and a special "target", print on your printer and send by regular mail along with order form. After that, you should only wait until the finished color profile of the printer arrives and further instructions for installing it. Color profile inksystem - will make your pictures realistic.
