Proper settings are the key to a comfortable game! Now we will briefly review all the game settings and pay special attention to the graphics settings.
1. General settings
The Game tab contains general settings.
In the "Chat" section, you can enable message censorship so that asterisks are displayed instead of abusive words (recommended for children). Here you can also turn off spam, platoon invitations, friend requests and messages from those who are not in your contact list (friends). Personally, these messages got me, I turned off the chat altogether and enjoy the game
In the Random Battle Types section, you can turn off Encounter Battle and Assault. In these modes, the same maps are used as in random battles, but the location of bases and victory conditions have been changed. In the "Encounter Battle" mode, there is one common base and the team that captures it or destroys all opponents wins. In Assault mode, one team defends the base, the other defends. To win, the Defenders need to prevent the capture of the base and survive at least one member of the team. To win, the "Strikers" need to capture the base or destroy all opponents at any cost. Personally, I do not like these types of fights, but you can try them for a change, maybe they will suit your taste.
In the "Combat Interface" section, you can turn off the optics effect (green background in the sight) so that it does not spoil the picture, turn off the display of the machine that destroyed you (if it makes you nervous).
Be sure to check the boxes "Enable dynamic camera" and "Horizontal stabilization in the sniper scope" otherwise it is simply impossible to shoot on the move, the scope dangles in all directions!
I uncheck "Show vehicle markers on the scoreboard" and "Show combat effectiveness tapes" because I don't see the point in them, they only distract.
As for the minimap options (camera direction beam, SPG sector of fire and additional features), I turn them off because I use a minimap mod with advanced features, which I will tell you about in the next article. This is important, if you, like me, will use the minimap mod, then disable these options so that they are not duplicated, thereby reducing performance.
When the "Record battles" option is enabled, small files (replays) will be recorded in the "replays" folder, which is located in the game folder, which can then be viewed. This has almost no effect on the performance of the game and you can easily share them with friends or upload them to the site "wotreplays.ru" so that other users can see how you bend over. But these are not video files, they can only be played by the game itself and stop working after exiting next patch. Therefore, if you want to post a video on YouTube or save the history of your victories for posterity, do not forget to digitize the best replays after hard fights using some kind of screen recording program (ShadowPlay, Bandicam, Fraps).

As soon as you switch to the "Graphics" tab, the screen settings are displayed.
If you just installed the game and it is still displayed in a window, and not in full screen, then check the "Full screen" box and click the "Apply" button. Only after that you need to select "Screen Resolution". If you have a liquid crystal (flat-panel, TFT) monitor, then select the maximum resolution, and leave the frame rate at 60. If you still have a fucking box of a CRT monitor on your desk, then a resolution of 1280x1024 at 85 Hz is usually suitable for it ( or 75 Hz). Click "Apply" and if everything is displayed normally (not stretched or flickering), then this is good. If you cannot find the resolution you need or the image turned out to be stretched, then try changing the "Aspect Ratio" as well.
In the Graphic Quality field, you can manually select low, medium, high, or maximum quality. This will install the appropriate set of settings, which we will talk about next. If you are not playing on a calculator (a very weak laptop), then make sure that the "3D Render Resolution" slider is set to 100% and uncheck "Dynamic change" otherwise the picture in the game will be blurry.
It is better not to enable the Vertical Sync option, as it negatively affects performance. This is only required in case of noticeable "frame tearing" and is applicable on powerful gaming PCs. The "Triple Buffering" setting is needed to improve the performance of the video card when "Vertical Sync" is enabled, but affects the performance of the processor that performs this buffering.
The Anti-aliasing option improves the picture, it becomes softer and more natural, but this significantly loads the graphics card and is designed for powerful gaming PCs. In this field, you can select different anti-aliasing modes from lighter (FXAA) to quite heavy (TSSAA-HQ).
"Field of View (FoV)" sets the location of the camera relative to your tank. That is the angle at which you will look at it. The default is set to 95 degrees and "Dynamic FoV" is disabled. No one really complains about these settings, so you can leave everything as it is. If you want to experiment, then you now know how it was, so that later you can return it to its place
The "Gamma" setting adjusts the brightness, but don't touch it in vain, it's better to reset your monitor settings to default, as the game is well calibrated.
"Color Filter" is a gourmet option that overlays a different background in the game, like effects in cameras. I tried, glamorous but useless...

On the same "Graphics" tab, if you click on the "Advanced" button, the graphics quality settings will be displayed.
At the very top there are the already familiar "Recommended" button for automatic selection of optimal parameters, the "Graphics quality" field for setting a set of settings from low to maximum, the "3D render resolution" slider, which should be at 100% and the "Dynamic change" checkbox , which should not have a check mark.
As graphics quality increases, the frame rate per second (FPS) decreases. It is believed that a person sees 24 frames per second and for a smooth picture it is desirable that the game gives out at least 30 FPS. But from my own experience I can say that the normal dynamics in the game starts at 60 FPS.
What is the difference between low dynamics and high dynamics? With low dynamics, your tank drives like a Zhiguli (just stupid), although it can be like a BMW. I have felt this more than once and you will feel it if you follow my advice! Extras (majors) have powerful computers that even at high graphics settings give out decent FPS (100 or more). Therefore, they feel the dynamics in the game much better, the machine reacts subtly to all the fibers of the soul and they play more efficiently. I have a mid-range gaming PC and pulls the game at maximum graphics settings, giving out 40 FPS. On high settings, it averages 60 FPS. 8. Remove unnecessary files

One of the most important parameters that affect the playability of online games is FPS.
FPS stands for Frame per Second (the number of displayed frames per second).
Why is this needed? Proper graphics settings in World of Tanks, as in any other Online game, significantly increase the chances of winning. FPS drops interfere with movement, are difficult to aim at, and usually end up with "shots to nowhere", long reloads and victory for the enemy.
FPS depends on the configuration of your computer. A good FPS starts at 35fps and up. The optimal result is 50 frames per second and above.
To achieve a good FPS, you must either have a high-performance gaming computer with a top-end graphics card, plenty of RAM and a powerful processor, or try to customize the game to your configuration as much as possible. Weak spots in the system can be compensated for by competent graphics settings in World of Tanks, which we will talk about now.
For convenience, we divided the settings according to the degree of impact on graphics and FPS, using a color scheme.

You can adjust the 3D rendering right during the game. If during the battle your FPS "dipped", use "right Shift -" to decrease the depth of the scene drawing and "right Shift +" to increase it. Decreasing depth will increase FPS on the fly.
Screen resolution. The higher the resolution, the higher the load on the video card. It is recommended to select the value corresponding to the monitor, otherwise the image will be "blurred". On very old video cards, you have to lower the resolution to get "playable" fps. We recommend lowering the resolution below the screen resolution as a last resort, if other methods no longer help.
Vertical Sync And triple buffering. Vertical sync is the synchronization of the frame rate in the game with the vertical refresh rate of the monitor. Triple buffering avoids the appearance of artifacts in the picture. If your system produces less than 60 FPS, the developers recommend disabling both options (note: on modern monitors it does not really affect the picture).

Lighting quality. Unlocks a range of dynamic effects in the game: sun rays, optical effects, shadows from physical sources (trees, buildings and tanks). This setting greatly affects the performance of the video card. If you have a weak video card, set the lighting quality from medium values and below.
Shadow quality. Affects the rendering of shadows from objects. Reducing the quality of the shadows does not greatly affect the gameplay. If you have an old video card, the first thing to do is to set the quality of the shadows to a minimum.
Grass in sniper mode. It affects not only performance, but also gameplay. If your FPS in sniper mode "sags" below 40 - you need to disable it.
Extra quality effects. Affects the "special effects" in the game: smoke, dust, explosions, flames. By decreasing this parameter, you can reduce the number of particles in the frame and limit the distance at which they will be displayed. amount of vegetation. Adjusts the density and distance of vegetation rendering in the game. At low FPS, it is recommended to set it to the minimum. Thus, you can free up precious megabytes of video memory.
post-processing. Affects the effects in the afterlife - shading and the effect of hot air from wrecked cars and burning objects. If you are hiding behind a destroyed tank and your FPS starts to drop, it is recommended to disable this option.
Effects from under the tracks. They saturate the picture with the effects of scattered soil, splashes of water and snow. The setting does not affect performance much. Disabling can achieve a small release of video memory.
landscape quality. The parameter determines at what distance the quality of the terrain begins to be simplified. This setting is very CPU intensive. Attention! At the minimum setting, there is a strong distortion of the landscape, so you may not see any ledge behind which the enemy is hiding, and after the shot the projectile will hit the edge of the obstacle, and not where you were aiming. It is recommended to set the setting value not lower than "medium".
Water quality. The parameter adds the effects of waves, water vibrations when moving, reflections from objects. If you have a weak video card, it is recommended to reduce the setting.
Decals quality. Affects the rendering distance and detail of decals - detail textures that improve image quality (fallen leaves, traces of dirt, paving slabs and other well-aimed objects scattered across the map). When set to "off", even craters from projectiles disappear. The more decals, the more video memory is required to load them. If you are not bothered by the simplification of the landscape, it is recommended to set it to "minimum", at low FPS.
Detailing of objects. In the game, all objects have several models of different quality. At the moment, buildings have 3 types of objects, tanks from five. The quality of drawing objects greatly affects performance, and at large distances small objects will still not be visible. With the removal of the object, its model changes to a coarser one. The parameter affects the distance at which a better model will be drawn. The lower the parameter is set, the shorter the draw distance for quality models will be.
foliage transparency. Turns off the rendering of foliage at close range. It is recommended to enable on weak systems.
Tree detail. The setting works on the same principle as "Detailing objects", but only for trees. If you experience FPS drops when trees appear, it is best to set this parameter to the minimum (along with it, it is recommended to turn on "Foliage Transparency").
