Packard Bell P5WS5 laptop BIOS setup

Let's take a look at this example, how easy it is to configure the BIOS to boot from a USB flash drive or drive. And at the same time, we will also enable the boot selection option.

But everything is in order. This Packard Bell P5WS5 laptop model has a simple BIOS, without any UEFI and other "bells and whistles".

Well, let's start.

First we need to enter the BIOS. As always, we enter using the "F2" key.

And here we see brief description laptop. Such as core frequency, connected devices (hard and drive), bios version.

But we are not interested in this.

And so having admired the characteristics of the Packard Bell P5WS5 laptop, go to the "Main" tab.

Here we turn on the option "F12 boot menu"Don't touch anything else!

P.S.: Do not switch "Sata mode", if you switch, then your operating system simply will not start. There will be an eternal reboot with code 7B.

Did you do as above? Let's move on to next tab Boot.

Here we see the connected devices. In this example, I set the priority to start from a flash drive, but if the flash drive is not inserted, then it will boot from the hard drive, etc.

The priority is set using the "F5" (lower) and "F6" (higher) keys.

Have you chosen from what we will launch? Then press the "F10" key and a window will appear in front of us with the question: "Are you sure you want to save the settings?".

Naturally, yes, select "Yes" and press "Enter".

At this stage, we have saved the settings of the issued boot priorities and enabled the "Boot menu" option - in Russian words "Boot menu".

To enter the boot menu, you need to press the "F12" key when turning on (when the logo appears, in no case after, since the boot will occur).

The boot menu looks like this.

In the boot menu, simply use the arrows to select what we want to boot from and press "Enter".

That's the whole BIOS setup of the Packard Bell P5WS5 laptop to boot from a USB flash drive or drive and enable the boot menu.

So, you have a need to boot from a USB flash drive or other device, for example, to install an operating system or check the system for viruses. To resolve this issue, there are two options. For the first method, you first need to enter the BIOS, then go to the boot menu (boot menu), there set the device from which you want to boot the computer. The second method does not require entering the BIOS, you just need to call the boot menu directly, this is done by pressing the keys when the computer starts.

BIOS entry keys and Boot Menu

Usually, the keys to enter the BIOS and Boot Menu (POST keys) are indicated at the initial stage of booting the computer; in the screenshot, these keys are indicated at the bottom of the screen.

In our case, to get into the boot menu, you need to press a key, and in order to get into the BIOS, you need to press a key.

But in each version of Bios there is a Boot menu (boot), this is exactly this parameter - Boot we need to find if you need to set the boot from a flash drive, for example. Next, consider entering the boot menu without visiting BIOS.

Keys for calling the boot menu (boot menu) on laptops and personal computers

At the beginning of the computer boot, you can see a key combination or key (POST hot keys) by pressing which you will be taken to the boot menu directly bypassing the BIOS visit. For some computers, the hotkeys for calling the Boot Menu by default may be disabled in the BIOS. To be able to use hotkeys, you must enable it in the BIOS settings. Opposite the F12 Boot Menu column, you need to set the Enabled parameter.

Good afternoon.

Many problems on a laptop can be solved by resetting the BIOS settings to factory settings (sometimes they are also called optimal or safe).

In general, this is done quite easily, it will be more difficult if you set a password for BIOS and when you turn on the laptop, it will ask for this same password. Here you can not do without disassembling the laptop ...

In this article, I wanted to consider both options.

1. Reset laptop BIOS settings to factory settings

To enter the BIOS settings, the keys are usually used. F2 or Delete(sometimes the F10 key). It depends on the model of your laptop.

Finding out which button to press is easy enough: restart the laptop (or turn it on) and look at the first welcome window (the button to enter the BIOS settings is always indicated on it). You can also use the documentation that came with the laptop when you bought it.

And so, we will assume that you entered the BIOS settings. Next, we are interested Exit tab. By the way, in laptops of different brands (ASUS, ACER, HP, SAMSUNG, LENOVO), the name of the BIOS sections is almost the same, so it makes no sense to take screenshots for each model ...

BIOS setup on ACER Packard Bell laptop.

Next, in the Exit section, select a line like " Load Setup Defaults" (i.e. loading default settings (or default settings)). Then a pop-up window will ask you to confirm that you want to reset the settings.

And all that remains is to exit the BIOS with saving the settings made: select Exit Saving Changes(first line, see screenshot below).

Load Setup Defaults - loading default settings. ACER Packard Bell.

By the way, in 99% of cases with reset settings, the laptop will boot normally. But sometimes a small mistake happens and the laptop cannot find what to boot from (i.e. from which device: flash drives, HDD, etc.).

To fix it, go back to BIOS and go to the section Boot .

Here you need to change the tab boot mode :UEFI change to Legacy, then exit BIOS and save the settings. After reboot - the laptop should boot normally from the hard drive.

Change the Boot Mode function.

2. How to reset BIOS settings if it requires a password?

Now let's imagine a more serious situation: it happened that you set a password for Bios, and now you forgot it (well, or a sister, brother, friend set a password and calls you for help ...).

Turn on the laptop (in the example, an ACER laptop) and see the following.

ACER. Bios asks for a password to work with a laptop.

For all brute-force attempts, the laptop responds with an error and after a few incorrectly entered passwords it simply turns off ...

In this case, you can not do without removing back cover laptop.

You only need to do three things:

  • disconnect the laptop from all devices and generally remove all the cords that are connected to it (headphones, power cord, mouse, etc.);
  • remove the battery;
  • remove the cover that protects the RAM and hard drive of the laptop (the design of all laptops is different, sometimes it may be necessary to remove the back cover completely).

Overturned laptop on the table. It is necessary to remove: the battery, the cover from the HDD and RAM.

laptop without battery hard drive and RAM.

There are two contacts under the RAM sticks (they are still signed by JCMOS) - that's what we need. Now do the following:

  • close these contacts with a screwdriver (and do not open until you turn off the laptop. Patience and accuracy are needed here);
  • connect the power cord to the laptop;
  • turn on the laptop and wait about a second. 20-30;
  • turn off your laptop.

Now you can connect RAM, HDD and battery.

Contacts that need to be closed to reset BIOS settings. Usually these contacts are signed with the word CMOS.

ACER laptop bios has been reset.

It is necessary to say a few words about the "pitfalls":

  • not all laptops will have two contacts, some have three, and to reset it is necessary to move the jumper from one position to another and wait a few minutes;
  • instead of jumpers, there may be a reset button: just press it with a pencil or pen and wait a few seconds;
  • you can also reset the bios if you remove the battery for a while with motherboard laptop (the battery looks like a tablet, small).

That's all for today. Don't forget your passwords!

In today's article, we will talk about returning to the factory settings of Acer, eMachines and Packard Bell laptops. Initially, I planned to write separate articles on them, but later decided to do with one.

The fact is that eMachines and Packard Bell are the same Acer and the recovery procedure is only slightly different in visual terms, and all the steps for restoring laptops released under these trademarks are almost identical, so I will just point out one single nuance in the course of the story. .

So, before starting the procedure for restoring an Acer, Packard Bell or eMachines laptop to the factory state, read the article first if you have not read it before, as it describes the preparations that must be made before starting to restore the laptop from the system recovery partition. Further actions are described on the basis that you have followed all the recommendations given by me in this article.

Well, do not rush to start recovery until you read this article to the end.

To launch the utility for restoring Acer, Packard Bell and eMachines laptops to factory settings, use the Alt + F10 key combination. It is necessary to clamp this combination at the moment the computer is turned on, before the operating system starts loading.

To make sure you don't miss this moment, I recommend holding Alt key make quick short clicks on the F10 button.

However, in order for the recovery utility to run in this way, it is necessary that the BIOS settings D2D Recovery option has been activated. The desired setting is here:

If you have never worked with BIOS settings before and have a vague idea of what it is, I strongly recommend that you run the system recovery environment for a little longer, but more in a safe way, which is standard on many mobile computer manufacturers.

To do this, immediately after turning on the power of the laptop, start quickly clicking on the F8 key. This is usually done when they want to choose a special operating system boot mode. We need the following menu to appear on the screen:

As you can see, at the very top is the item "Troubleshoot your computer." Select it (if for some reason it is not selected by default) and press the Enter key. Files will start downloading.

Now you will need to specify the user on whose behalf the recovery will be performed and enter the password for the selected user, if one has been set. Enter the required details and click OK.

In the next menu that appears, click Recovery Management.

This will launch the Packard Bell, Acer or eMachines laptop recovery utility. As I said, the differences in their interface are purely cosmetic.

If you are going to use the recovery option using the Alt + F10 key combination, then all the previous steps are not relevant for you. The process of resuscitation of the system from the recovery partition will begin immediately from this step.

So, since we assume that all our important data was previously saved, we select the option "Restore the operating system to factory settings".

We will be warned about necessary measures precautions that you already know about if you read the introductory article. To continue the procedure for restoring the laptop's operating system, click "Next".

After that, we will be shown information about the hard drive of our laptop. Just click "Next".

We agree with another warning that all data will be lost.

After that, the computer will take a little time to complete the preparations ...

... after which the process of restoring to the factory state will begin. We're just waiting.

Hello dear readers of my blog. In this article, I will most likely talk about preparing for installing Windows 7 on a Packard Bell EN LE639KB laptop, and not the installation itself. So much has been written about installing Windows 7 on the Internet.

background

The other day a friend called me and asked me to look at the purchased Packard Bell EN LE639KB laptop. So to speak, evaluate the purchase, well, install Windows 7 and necessary programs. Carry it, check it out, set it up - was my answer. The laptop turned out to be cute, thin, stylish. The filling is average for today: a 4-core processor, 4 gigabytes of RAM, a screw 320 and discrete graphics card. Go to work and play.

This is what the Linpus bootloader looks like
The most interesting thing about this laptop is operating system. It is called Linux Linpus Lite version and even in the console version. In general, you need to put something more familiar, namely Windows 7 64.

It can be the Esc key, F2, F10, F11, F12. After trying all the keys and not achieving a result, I decided to go into the BIOS settings and look there. How to enter the BIOS? On the screen, apart from the beautiful Packard Bell logo, there are no more inscriptions. We will act by enumeration or by the method of "scientific poke". To enter the BIOS settings in our case, you need to hold down the F2 key when turning it on and hold it for a while.

Boot Menu disabled
In the BIOS settings, the F12 Boot Menu function was turned off. We turn it on. Save the settings and restart the laptop. We press F12, the boot media selection window appears, but the laptop's hard drive is marked in the first place and it is not possible to change its place. In addition, our bootable USB flash drive with Windows 7 is not on the list. What should I do? How to boot from our Windows 7 bootable flash drive? This question turned out to be the most difficult in our story about installing Windows 7 on a Packard Bell EN LE639KB laptop.

Solution

After reviewing more than one site on the Internet, collecting information bit by bit, and also using the “scientific poke” method, a solution to this issue was found. Namely, you need to change in the settings BIOS setting UEFI on Legacy. After that, our flash drive appeared in the boot media selection list and it is available for selection. We select it as a download and then the installation of Windows 7 proceeds. All the problem is solved.

Moreover, when choosing a place Windows installation 7 you need to delete all partitions from the laptop hard drive and re-create the partition or partitions under Windows 7.

Boot Mode Legacy
It turned out that the drivers for Windows 7 are supplied with the laptop on a disk. But I did not use them, but installed more recent drivers from the DriverPack Solution kit.

Choosing a flash drive with a Windows 7 distribution
So, Windows 7 is installed on a Packard Bell EN LE639KB laptop, the owner of the laptop is satisfied, but I got another portion of experience. Everyone is glad and happy.
