Conclusions

The Kyivstar company has officially announced the launch of 4G in Ukraine.

I turned the switch! I know that you are already tired of waiting. We prepared for a long time, hardly slept, rarely ate and did everything to ensure that Kyivstar subscribers had access to 4G. And everything worked out! And now the official information. We launched 4G in the 2600 MHz band in 20 settlements: Kiev, Dnepr, Odessa, Lvov, Kharkov, Ternopil, Vinnitsa, Uzhgorod, Khmelnitsky, at resorts and at border crossing points - Zatoka, Karolino-Bugaz, Kirillovka, Yasiny, Polyanytsya, Chop, Rava-Russkaya, Starovoitov, Krakovets, Ustiluga, Sheginyakh. We have installed more than 500 additional base stations to operate in the 2600 MHz band. We placed them where the network is most congested. Launching in the 2600 MHz band is just the beginning; subscribers will be able to get a real cool experience using 4G in the summer, when we launch in the 1800 MHz band. At high frequencies, the range of base stations is very limited, which means that the coverage will not be continuous. But you need to try it now! You are ready for 4G, right? And the most important thing: Kyivstar purchased at auction the largest number of frequencies for the development of 4G communications: 30 MHz in the 2600 range and 70 MHz in the 1800 range. This is more than our competitors. The use of both bands will allow us to begin to bridge the digital gap with Europe in Ukraine and provide high speed mobile Internet for our customers. I don’t know about you, but I’m definitely going to celebrate today :)

Published Peter Chernyshov April 6, 2018

From today, high-speed mobile Internet 4G from Kyivstar is available in Kiev, as well as in such cities as: Dnepr, Odessa, Lviv, Kharkov, Ternopil, Vinnitsa, Uzhgorod, Khmelnitsky, at resorts and at border crossing points: Zatoka, Karolino-Bugaz, Kirillovka, Yasinya, Polyanytsya, Chop, Rava-Russkaya, Starovoytovo, Krakovets, Ustilug, Shegini.

All subscribers can take advantage of 4G communications without additional payment within the framework of current tariff plans. The only condition is to have a smartphone and a SIM card supporting 4G technology. By the way, you can check this using USSD codes: *245 *5#call – to check your smartphone; *245 *4# call – to check the SIM card.

The operator notes that more than 500 additional base stations were installed in 20 settlements to operate in the 2600 MHz band. The locations for their installation were chosen based on the degree of congestion of the 3G network. Since frequencies in the 2600 MHz range have a short range, coverage will not be continuous.

“The launch of 4G is an important event for Ukraine. We can finally give our subscribers access to high-speed fourth generation Internet for communication, work, education and entertainment. Launching in the 2600 MHz band is just the beginning; subscribers will be able to get real experience using 4G in the summer, when we launch in the 1800 MHz band,” - Petr Chernyshov, President of Kyivstar, CEO of Eurasia Business Unit VEON.

Kyivstar notes that in the range of 2600 MHz the maximum theoretical The data transfer speed is up to 300 Mbit/s, and after the launch of 4G in the 2600+1800 MHz ranges – up to 700 Mbit/s. But it is clear that real speeds will be much lower. The first tests show download speeds of up to 90 Mbit/s. It is also obvious that new tariffs await us in the near future, but what they will be and how much more expensive communications will become is still unclear.

Let us remind you that yesterday Kyivstar also changed the terms of use of high-speed mobile Internet, limiting the maximum amount of traffic at which the service will operate at full speed to 6 GB per day.

With the beginning of the new quarter, Kyivstar decided to update its offers for users of prepaid communication services. The “Kyivstar Talks” tariff is one of the latest new products with the lowest subscription fee. This offer will be the best option for daily calls within the network and infrequent conversations with subscribers of other mobile operators in Ukraine. In this case, your costs will most often be limited only to the subscription fee. If you additionally frequently need mobile Internet, calls to other operators and other additional services, then it is better. But that’s not about that now. Let's get started with the review and start, as always, with the conditions in tabular form.

I forgot to mention that the review of the tariff plan “ Kyivstar Conversations"(region 1 and region 2) we are dedicated to all its options at once: both regional and operating throughout the country. These proposals are practically no different from each other. The coverage area of each option is described above under the table. There are only three differences:

  1. Naturally, the tariff area. Regional options are only valid in certain regions (note that you can make calls to any region of the country, but you must be in your home zone).
  2. The subscription fee in the starter package for “region 1” and all of Ukraine is 35 UAH per month.
  3. In a tariff plan that is not regional and is valid throughout Ukraine, 30 minutes for free calls to numbers of other operators are provided only for 3 months from the date of activation of the tariff. After this, free minutes will not be provided. But in the regional versions of “Kyivstar Conversations” 30 minutes per month will be regularly provided.

In all other respects, the tariff plans are identical. After activating the starter package, you must top up your account once in the amount of 40 hryvnia or more in one payment. This way you will activate the removal of the monthly subscription fee and the provision of the services included in it. As noted above, the monthly fee includes an unlimited number of minutes for free calls within the network and 30 minutes per month for outgoing calls to other mobile networks in Ukraine. Above this amount, calls to other mobile networks will cost 60 kopecks per minute. In this case, the billing is per minute, and the connection fee is not charged. Calls to landline numbers are even more expensive – 1.50 UAH per minute.

If you need to use the Internet, then be prepared for 5 UAH to be debited from your account and you will have 50 megabytes of free traffic by the end of the day. Similarly (in the form of a pay-as-you-go package), the Kyivstar Talks tariff plan (including region 1 and region 2) provides SMS services throughout Ukraine. When you send the first message per day, 1 hryvnia is charged and then 49 messages until the end of the day will be free. You can send them to the numbers of any operators in Ukraine. Each multimedia message (MMS) within the country will cost 1 UAH.

Another important point that should be mentioned is that Internet traffic in the Wikipedia, MyBook and SmartKyivstar mobile applications will be absolutely free for you. So you can safely expand your horizons in these services. Perhaps this is all the most useful thing you should know about the Kyivstar Talks tariff.

From October 10, 2017, Kyivstar launched a set of unlimited tariffs for prepaid subscribers: “Unlim Talks”, “Unlim Social Networks”, “Unlim Video” and “Maximum Unlim”. Its own unlimited line has also become available to contract subscribers.

The “Unlim Talks” tariff for 45 UAH per month primarily offers unlimited calls on the Kyivstar network. The package also includes 500 MB of 3G Internet, and traffic to educational services like the Prometheus platform and Wikipedia is not charged. Calls to other networks will cost 0.60 UAH/min.

In the “Unlim Social Networks” tariff for 65 UAH per month, traffic on Facebook and Twitter is not charged. Also in the package, the user receives 3,000 MB of mobile Internet, unlimited calls within the network and 50 minutes for conversations with subscribers of other operators.

“Unlim Video” for 95 UAH per month provides unlimited traffic for content in the YouTube, Zvooq, Fonoteka, Megogo, Divan.TV and “Home TV” applications from Kyivstar. Subscribers can watch videos and listen to their favorite music without restrictions without worrying about megabytes in their account. In addition, users will receive 6,000 MB of 3G Internet, unlimited calls on the Kyivstar network, 100 minutes for calls to other networks and 100 SMS.

The most unlimited tariff in the new line “Super Unlimited” for 155 UAH per month offers unlimited 3G traffic. At the same time, the starter package includes a second SIM card as part of the “Internet SIM Pair” service, which can be inserted into a modem or tablet using the same number. The tariff includes unlimited calls within the network, 300 minutes to other operators and 300 SMS.

All Kyivstar tariffs have the same prices for services outside the package. Calls to networks of other operators will cost 0.60 UAH/min, to landline numbers – 1.50 UAH/min. SMS are provided in packages: first one package of 100 SMS for 2 UAH, then 90 packages of 10 SMS for 2 UAH each, and then 1 UAH for each SMS. Sending a message to a foreign number will cost 2.20 UAH per message.

Five new tariffs have also become available for contract subscribers: “Unlim”, “Unlim Extra”, “Unlim Silver”, “Unlim Gold” and “Unlim Platinum”. Their conditions are slightly more favorable than offers for prepaid subscribers: unlimited 3G Internet is already available in the entry-level “Unlim” tariff for 95 UAH per month. This is probably how Kyivstar wants to encourage subscribers to switch to a contract form. Otherwise, the tariff is similar to “Unlim Video” for prepaid subscribers at the same cost: unlimited calls within the network, 100 minutes for calls to other networks and 100 SMS.

The conditions of “Unlim Extra” for contract employees are similar to “Maximum Unlimit” for prepaid subscribers for the same 155 UAH per month. But for contract users, three more premium tariffs are available: Silver, Gold and Platinum for 350, 650 and 1,000 UAH per month, respectively. Silver offers the same conditions as “Unlim Extra” (unlimited 3G, calls within the network), but the volume of package minutes for calls to the networks of other operators has been increased to 700 minutes. There are also 700 SMS in the package.

In “Unlim Gold” these packages have been increased to 2,000 minutes for calls by subscribers of other networks and 2,000 SMS within Ukraine. “Gold” users within the package will also be able to talk with foreigners for 50 minutes per month. The Platinum tariff for 1,000 UAH already gives you 4,000 SMS, 4,000 minutes to other networks, 100 minutes for calls abroad and 200 MB of mobile Internet in roaming.

Let us remind you that in August, Vodafone Ukraine was the first to launch a line of Unlim 3G unlimited tariffs.
