Tesla cable for iPhone with magnet reviews. Overview of USB cables with magnetic adapter

Content

A novelty in the world of technology is the magnetic charger. This device is not the first necessity, but it makes life easier for owners of smartphones and laptops. Magnetic charging is a plug for the USB connector on the phone, to which a special power cable is attached. You can buy a novelty in a hardware store or order online. The cost depends on the manufacturer. For example, the original magnetic charger for the iPhone will cost several times more than the Chinese one.

What is magnetic charging

Such charging on a magnet has several purposes. Count how many times a day you insert a cord into the usb connector? The phone needs to be charged, throw off photos, videos and other information. It turns out that the USB connector is subjected to mechanical stress more than once a day. It quickly becomes loose, starts to "buggy" and eventually becomes unusable.

To avoid expensive repairs, you can use a magnetic charger. This charge must be inserted once into the usb connector and forgotten. Gadget users can no longer worry that their device will have to be carried to the equipment service after a while. This is an important advantage of the gadget if the smartphone does not support wireless charging. Another advantage of the fashionable plug is that it prevents dust from entering through the micro-usb connector.

Operating principle

On the technical side, there is no secret. The plug is a receiver that plugs into the phone, everything else is done by the cable. It contains spring contacts, a magnet and an LED. When the cable head is brought to the adapter, physics works, i.e. plus and minus are attracted and the two parts of the gadget are connected. Don't be afraid, the phone is firmly connected to the wire, but it is not enough to disconnect them from each other.

How to use

The magnetic charger kit consists of two components:

  • adapter;
  • magnetic usb cable.

The magnetic charger must be inserted into the micro USB connector of a smartphone or tablet. This is done using an adapter in the form of a plug, on the reverse side of which a special platform with magnetic contacts is installed. A similar platform is located on the usb cable. When the need arises, a cable is magnetized to the plug, after which the gadget is charged or connected to a computer. Result: untouched USB connector, instant convenient connection.

The first manufacturer of magnetic gadgets was Wsken, which produces chargers for iPhone and Android. This is not the only manufacturer of quality additions to devices. Consider several options for devices, indicating the technical characteristics, pros and cons, prices. Models from Wsken and other popular manufacturers are offered for review:

How to choose a magnetic charger

A huge number of magnetic chargers have appeared on the Internet, half of which are low-quality products. An unscrupulous seller site can be recognized by an incorrect domain and a design “licked” from the original site. The goods on sale in such online stores also leave much to be desired. The charger may have a weak magnet or inflexible wire. There is also an advantage: a small price that allows you to take a gadget for testing without losing part of the budget.

Such inexpensive brands as Aircable, Ucable, Asap, Snap and others are especially popular. In fact, Chinese craftsmen put nameless magnetic wires in the box. These brands do not have a website, support department, etc., which makes buying a gadget unreliable. Whether it is worth buying such a magnetic wire for charging is everyone's business. However, before buying it is worth weighing all the pros and cons.

If you are purchasing a device in order to try out a new gadget or you have a limited finance, then before buying, pay attention to the following factors:

  • quality certificate;
  • warranty from the manufacturer and seller;

Customer Reviews

Magnetic charging has gained wide popularity among users of mobile phones, smartphones and other gadgets due to its ease of use. Proof of this are the numerous reviews left both on thematic forums and on the official websites of product suppliers. Before making a purchase, it is useful to read the comments of real users.

After the breakdown of several smartphones, in which the USB input was damaged, I decided to buy a magnetic charger.

I first learned about it from a friend who actively used gadgets and purchased a separate device for each model.

The device is perfect for the phone. With it, you do not need to insert the cable into the slot all the time, which often leads to its loosening as a result.

Also purchased a separate device for the tablet. I use it to transfer files. Convenient and practical, I have been using it for several months, and I recommend it to everyone!

Oleg, 27 years old, Samara

I ordered a charger-magnet via the Internet. Delivered directly to the house. The purchase is very satisfied. The product is protected from mechanical damage.

First used for smartphone. Then I bought a convenient device for the tablet.

Now downloading photos, charging devices has become much easier and faster. I don't know how I managed without it all this time!

I use two: one is at home, the second is in the car. The problem with low battery by loosening the connector is solved! I recommend it to anyone who wants to extend the life of their gadgets.

Specifications

The charger has excellent technical characteristics. Thanks to this, it can be used for any gadgets: mobile phones, tablets, laptops, various quadrocopters, etc. The elements are made in silver color, have a metal base. Dimensions are 14x5x1.2 mm.

On the connection side - 5 contact points. The adapter is fixed tightly and securely. Thanks to the power of the magnet, attraction occurs from a distance of about 5 mm, regardless of the side.

The current strength is at least 1 A and varies depending on the modification up to 3.5–4 A.

This parameter is especially important for selecting a model for a specific portable gadget.

The magnetic end is equipped with a small LED that lights up when the device is connected. The color of the indicator does not change after the end of the battery charge.

How to use

Each kit has instructions for use, which helps to understand the nuances of the operation of magnetic charging. To put the device into action, you should:

  • insert a special adapter supplied in the kit into the USB connector of the phone or tablet;
  • bring the charging cable to the plug at a distance of about 0.5 cm;
  • after attaching the magnet, wait for the indicator to light up, which indicates the beginning of the charging process;
  • place the charging device in a stationary position.

Thus, you can connect your phone or tablet to the network to charge the battery or to a computer to share files.

If the magnetic cable is accidentally touched during operation, disconnection will occur. When using conventional connections, the gadget itself stretches along with the cord, as a result of which it may fall.

It is convenient to fix the phone in the car with the help of car holders. Thus, the charging process can be carried out directly while driving.

According to the manufacturer, the design is designed for more than 30 thousand connections. In practice, the number of connections exceeds the indicated figures by about half. Proof of this are the numerous reviews of real buyers who talk about the long life of such a device.

Advantages and disadvantages

Magnetic chargers have a number of advantages over the designs familiar to most users. One of the most significant advantages is versatility. This modification is easily connected to any portable devices and phones.

Other benefits include:

  • the plug protects the USB slot from mechanical impact (loosening, dust, debris, etc.);
  • the design provides the fastest charging to any gadgets;
  • thanks to magnetization, the device connects in 1 second;
  • the connection indicator informs about the charging of a smartphone, mobile phone, etc.;
  • high-quality cable withstands up to 2.4 A;
  • connection to the adapter is carried out by any side of the device due to the universal design of magnetic adapters;
  • adapter, cable do not heat up during charging.

If the magnetic cable is randomly touched during the charging process, the wire quickly opens, which allows you to protect the gadget from falling. The connection to the charger is pretty reliable. This is the best option after wireless charging. However, this feature is not available for all modern devices.

There are not so many weaknesses in magnetic charging:

  • relatively high market value - you can avoid overpayments if you place an order during the period of special offers on the supplier's website;
  • the presence of a magnet causes the attraction of microscopic metal particles, but there is not much such garbage in everyday life;
  • the strength of the magnet is not always enough to keep the wire connected during a conversation or other actions - when the indicator is on, it is recommended to keep the device being charged in a stationary position.

Most of the disadvantages can be avoided by adhering to the recommendations for use. Branded products are free from such shortcomings as a fragile wire and its connection to batteries and other flaws. By purchasing goods on the official website of the supplier, the buyer is guaranteed to receive high-quality products that comply with international certificates.

Phone charging cable. It would seem, well, what else can be improved here? A piece of cable, two plugs and that's it. Well, the veins are thicker, the insulation is softer, so that the connectors do not crack over time. All? No, not all. Before us is the latest achievement of science and technology of cable building.

Do you know what are the most common malfunctions of tablets and smartphones? There are two of them: broken glass and poor contact in the micro-usb socket. And if everything is clear with glass, it’s enough just not to drop the phone, then the usb connector becomes loose every time you insert and remove the charger plug. As a rule, it is held on the phone board with two legs and a set of five tiny contacts. Worst of all, when the contacts fall off the board along with the tracks, then the repair may not be economically viable at all. But even in relatively simple cases, I do not advise you to solder yourself. Even if before that you repaired a Soviet TV. Here you need a soldering station, Wood's alloy, a good magnifying glass and a lot of patience.
The problem looks like this:

And if you still remember the "principle of superposition of the USB port"?

And the Yabloko people got rid of this misfortune by introducing their own standard - another headache: if your family has different phones, then you need a whole zoo of cords at home, and even in the car.

And all these troubles were perceived as something sad, but inevitable. Until I came across this cable:

This is something phenomenal! Gold tone nylon sheathed cable. Thin, flexible, beautiful.
See these two things? These are micro-usb and Apple connectors. They are magnetic to the cable and thus the cable can be used for phones of both standards. What's more, the connectors are so compact that you don't have to take them out of your phone!

The cable itself ends with such a connector.

The contacts are spring-loaded, the coating looks like gold. There are five of them.

On the nozzles, too, of course, there is a magnet. And ten contact pads.

Here is the attachment for the iPhone:

But for devices with micro-usb:

As you can see, the 4th pin, (ID) is missing in the connector. So conceived, because different manufacturers interpret the signals on this pin differently.

The wire at the output of the connector is enclosed in a white elastic tube - it helps to avoid sharp bends.

We connect the nozzle for iPhone:

Nice, but I don't need it. Change to mico-usb attachment:

This is how it looks on my phone:

We connect the cable. Charging is on!

There is a small green LED on the connector. It shows that the wire is connected to a power source. And it also helps to orient which side the plug is inserted.

The fact is that charging takes place at any mutual positions of the magnetic connectors. But here the phone is hooked up to the computer only if the green eye looks towards the back cover of the device. At first I thought that this should not be so and this is a marriage. But then I decided that this is not a bug, but a feature: sometimes it is safer to exclude the connection between the phone and the computer. If a virus is suspected. If the system administrator could instruct a working machine with spyware that merges personal photos from the phone. Yes, little. But now there is a choice: we connect to exchange data - the green diode is back. We connect exclusively for charging - the green LED is forward. Comfortable.

Now let's see what the resistance of the cable is. At such small values, ohmmeters often lie. So let's check the voltage drop when current flows. As a load, I took a 12 volt light bulb, but powered by a five-volt power bank.

Immediately at its output, 4.36 V. Well, yes, we can do those that can. Then our wire follows, then an adapter, a wire with crocodiles and the light bulb itself. A current of 1.05A flows throughout this economy. In front of the light bulb, the voltage drops to 3.86 V. We calculate the resistance: (4.36-3.86) / 1.05 \u003d 0.48 Ohm. Wire with crocodiles 0.075 Ohm (checked in another test, believe me). In total, we get that our cable pulls 0.4 Ohm for both cores. This is with an adapter that had to be planted so that everything connected. Not perfect, but tolerable.
For an additional check, I connected it to a transistor tester:

0.2 ohm per wire. Matches.

Now the most curious test: the strength of the magnet. Carefully pick up the phone by the tail:

hanging. The phone weighs 155 grams without the cover. But it feels like the magnet is capable of more. We take the change...

1.27 kg! Shortly after the photo, the cable still came off, so this is close to the maximum. And, according to the laws of mechanics, the figure must be divided by at least 2. But still, an excellent result. It would be more - the load on the socket would be the same as with a conventional plug. It would be less - it would fall off with an awkward movement during charging. And so - what is needed.

So, what is the result: the magnetic connector firmly and forever settled in my phone. It is enough just to bring the cable to it at a distance of a centimeter and a half and it flies up and connects to the phone. Convenient, damn convenient! The green light immediately tells you whether the wire is powered or not. The cable is long, soft and beautiful. I don't know what else you could want from a cable, it has already exceeded all my expectations.

Pros:
- The cable extends the life of the usb connector.
- Charging your phone is easy and pleasant.
- There is a choice of how to connect to a computer - with or without the possibility of data transfer.
- A green light indicates if the cable is powered.

Minuses:
- You don't always need both plugs, it would be more convenient to pay only for the one you need. And someone will want two cables - home and work, and one connector - to the phone.
- The magnets are quite strong. If you always have a cable connected to your computer and some small metal objects on your desk, the cable can magnetize them and make a short circuit. But this is unlikely: the magnet is recessed into the connector and the objects must be really small, a couple of millimeters in size.
- the resistance of the wires could be less. But even without that, the wire perfectly charges the phone.

Conclusions: take. If at all they were going to take a cable, then only a magnetic one. And don't hesitate!

I plan to buy +17 Add to favorites Liked the review +8 +33 For the lazy, who find it difficult to master a large number of letters, briefly about the main thing: this magnetic cable is of good quality and is perfect for undemanding devices with a simple charging adapter, but here it is not without a “but”. As always, there are nuances and pitfalls. Therefore, I advise you to at least look at the advantages, disadvantages, and of course the conclusions that are at the end of the review.

And also I want to disappoint fans of dismemberment a little - I will not cut this cable, I still need it for tests in the future.

I hid some lyrics under the spoilers, away from fans of dry facts.

introduction

Recently, due to certain circumstances, reviews of various cables for our gadgets have become popular. After all, it is quite natural that having a kind of fleet of devices, it becomes necessary to connect them for charging and / or synchronization anywhere - at home, in a car, at work, a train station, etc., etc.

Mainly due to the peculiar competition of manufacturers, we have the opportunity to buy cheap cables of various lengths, any color and type of external protective coating ... Sometimes the head is spinning from the abundance of all kinds of "know-how" of Chinese engineering, which they just did not come up with to interest the buyer - and illumination of the whole cable or only its connectors, built-in tester, combined cables two in one, or even three in one, as well as with a combined connector, and so on.

And now, Chinese manufacturers are once again trying to satisfy any wishes of customers, and the latest property of this competitive struggle is cables with a miniature magnetic Micro USB connector or 8-pin lightning "ohm. They work by analogy with the MagSafe magnetic connector known to us, from which Apple for some reason then she refused.

Thinking out loud

To be honest, I have long wanted to purchase a similar cable, even when they first appeared on sale. However, the prices for them were inadequate, and more or less affordable solutions had "pioneer problems" - it seemed that the buyers were voluntary beta testers, whose feedback would take into account all the wishes and shortcomings in the future. I would not be surprised that manufacturers did not conduct elementary reliability tests of the design. After several negative comments from unfortunate owners, I threw this idea away until better times.

And then I got a chance to try it for free - what it is and how it works. It is also possible to find out what to look for if I like this connection method, however, the disadvantages of this instance will be significant ... But first things first.

A few words about postal services

The delivery of goods to me fell on the period of the New Year holidays - at a time when the number of orders goes off scale and postal workers do not want to work, they manage to clear the mountains of correspondence. I already thought that I would not get anything. It took about three months for the envelope to reach me, perhaps it could have been brought faster on foot from China.

Equipment

Considering the price category, everything is rather austere - in a regular white zip-lock bag there was our magnetic cable with an adapter, which was fixed with an elastic band. Very practical - the envelope can be used for other purposes, and with an elastic band we can fix our old cable wound up for transportation.

First Impressions

This magnetic Micro USB cable from Floveme belongs to the budget, but sufficiently high-quality "laces". Visually, if compared with previous models, it is indistinguishable from most conventional cables - the dimensions are almost identical.

In the photo, for comparison, I placed Micro USB connectors from Xiaomi cables (left) and Meiyi (right).

Appearance

In general, the cable is made quite neatly without any flaws, so I have no comments on the appearance. The coating of the metal protective/decorative covers of the USB type A connectors and the magnetic connector is matte. The seller offers three color options for the coating - silver, yellow gold and pink, and the wire itself is only white. There are no inscriptions, there is also no Floveme branding, as it is in the photo of the seller.

The cable length is 1 meter and the wire diameter is 3 mm. The wire is soft, tactilely pleasant to the touch, somewhat reminiscent of a soft touch coating. The USB type A connector is standard, nothing special here - it enters the connectors of chargers and PCs without any problems and is fixed in them normally, the connection is stable. What else is needed? But on the other side of the cable, there is the whole "zest" of the hero of our review - here is a magnetic base with contacts for connecting a Micro USB adapter.

Very convenient - we leave the miniature part of the connector in the connector of our device, and if necessary, we connect only the magnetic part of the cable, thereby reducing the likelihood of damaging the device.

Removable adapter

The length of the Micro USB adapter connector on this cable is 5.5 mm

Photo of the connected adapter to the tablet

It is also almost impossible to lose a miniature receiver when it is in the device connector, because it is inserted quite tightly with a characteristic click and is firmly fixed in it. At first I was even afraid that I would break something or pull out the “with meat” connector when I first tried to remove the adapter, because it takes a lot of effort to pull it out. However, it should be understood that this was not done by chance, but so that the magnetic connector does not pull the adapter out of the connector during disconnection.

Magnetic connector

The magnet is moderately strong, therefore, to disconnect it, you need to make a slight effort, though nothing will fall off without permission (of course, everything also depends on the weight of the connected consumer and other conditions and features of use). But the device will not pull the cable behind itself, but will lag behind if someone accidentally touches it.

Although the magnet is not heavy duty, but keep the phone in a position. If you carefully lift my Nokia N9, then the cable can withstand its weight of 136g.

Cable operation indication

The magnetic connector itself contains a two-color LED indicator. When you connect the cable to the charger, it first alternately flashes green or blue several times, and then starts to glow green constantly. This happens before the consumer is connected, and if the charging process begins, or rather, active energy consumption, the indicator changes color to blue until charging is completed. Of course, this is all conditional, with a current strength of 225mA, the cable is not sure “what is happening?” and starts flashing blue-green alternately.

Ready indication and...

… the charging process.

For example, my phone Nokia N9, like most similar devices, after reaching ~ 90% of the battery charge, it still continues the charging process, it simply consumes less energy and, accordingly, the indicator glows green. Also, the indicator turns blue if you unlock the N9, when, in addition to charging the battery, the consumption of the smartphone increases (screen, processor and other key elements).

Even without connecting the consumer, due to the presence of this indicator (there is also an assumption that there is also some kind of board for breeding contacts), there is an insignificant energy consumption by the cable itself, but it is rather meager ~ 0.005A.

Also in the indicator there is one more “trick” - in the dark it is perfectly visible, and you can safely connect the cable by touch, or find out at what stage the charging process is.

Magnetic cable in action

To recharge our devices, we can connect the cable connector with either side to the adapter. In addition to recharging, you can also use it for data transfer and synchronization. But in this mode, the cable, unfortunately, works only in one position of the magnetic connector out of two possible. This is due to the presence of only five contacts and, as it was found out, the purpose of the contacts is: 1.5 - ground, 2.4 - data + / data-, 3 - + 5v. Date contacts are not duplicated and, accordingly, in one of the positions we get them mixed up.

If the location of data + / data- is changed when connecting the cable, then the system Windows 10 such a device is identified as "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" with the identifier "USB\DEVICE_DESCRIPTOR_FAILURE".

Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

And also the charging process from the computer on my N9 only happens with the normal placement of contacts.

ATTENTION! This drawback is critical when using this magnetic cable with smart chargers that communicate with the consumer via data lines, so if the cable is connected “incorrectly”, the charging process will not work correctly. Basically, this applies to all fast charging technologies. For example, such as QC2.0, QC3.0, MTK Pump Express, etc.

Unfortunately, at the moment I do not have the opportunity to check how the connection process will take place in practice when devices that support fast charging technologies are connected to each other. As soon as I have something so “smart” in my hands, I will immediately supplement the review.

And here is my old lady - the charger Nokia AC-16E, which came with the N9, now belongs to the class of “stupid”, in it the data contacts are closed and, accordingly, the phone does not care how I connected the magnetic connector to the adapter. This is the first time I regretted that the USB connector in my phone has a protective cover, it is impossible to use a magnetic cable with it ...

Cable testing

The time has come for small tests of the magnetic cable. To test the voltage drop as the current increases, I used EBD-USB+ (ZKEtech) and charger from iPad Air - 12W USB Power Adapter (Model A1401). I think this adapter is well suited for this, because it:
  • does not raise the voltage with increasing load to compensate for possible losses on the cable, as some chargers do now;
  • supports current up to 2.4A (in fact, even 2.5-2.6, but I didn’t torture him with such a load for a long time),
  • and in general, it is very cute ... just kidding, it's just the best adapter I have at the moment.
When the cable is connected and without load, the voltage remains unchanged and is equal to 5.192 (± 0.001) V.

First, I will indicate the data for testing the power supply A1401:
500mA - 5.170V; 1A - 5.147V; 1.5A - 5.128V; 2A - 5.105V
But this is what our experimental subject could do - Floveme magnetic cable:
500mA - 4.967V; 1A - 4.755V; 1.5A - 4.533V; 2A - 4.323V
For comparison, cable data Nokia CA-185CD that came with my N9 (previously I considered it my best cable - brand, appearance ... but now having tested it, I'm in shock, it's a pity that I didn't do it earlier):
500mA - 4.924V; 1A - 4.663V; 1.5A - 4.396V; 2A - 4.104V
And VOXLINK 1M Micro USB Cable:
500mA - 5.031V; 1A - 4.879V; 1.5A - 4.754V; 2A - 4.638V

During testing and using the charging cable, I did not find any heating in the contact area of the magnetic connector with the adapter.

Durability

The only thing that remains in question is the durability of this cable, its magnetic connector, and especially those very five pins that may eventually stop contacting the micro USB adapter normally.

For example my tablet dock Nexus 7 2012 has a similar connection principle as this cable. So, over time, you have to wipe the contacts, because the charging process starts to take a very long time, or even the tablet discharges faster than it manages to charge the battery ... Of course, it’s most likely not the connectors that are to blame for this, but the users’ hands and the age of the device itself, however ...

Results

Advantages:

  • The most important thing is that the Micro USB connector of our device is less loose.
  • Miniature design (especially compared to the first generation, this one is almost indistinguishable from conventional cables).
  • LED indicator, which helps not only to find out if our device is already charged, but also to find the cable in the dark.
  • Insignificant voltage drop at a current strength of up to 1A (ideal for non-demanding devices).
  • Price (at the moment quite democratic).
Flaws:
  • Inadequate implementation of work in both connection options due to an insufficient number of contacts (apparently this is due to the manufacturer's attempt to save money to reduce the final cost of the product through a simple implementation of the connection using only five contacts). Therefore, there are also possible conflicts with smart chargers.
  • A significant voltage drop at a current strength above 1A (not suitable for fast charging devices).
  • The durability of the contacts connecting the magnetic connector with the Micro USB adapter is questionable.
  • It is possible to short the pins of the magnetic connector if it accidentally attracts a pin or some other metal object.
Well, one more point (this is neither an advantage nor a disadvantage, but rather a wish) - there is not enough opportunity to purchase additional adapters with Micro USB and Lightning connectors. Basically, all manufacturers make their cables "unique" in terms of dimensions and other dimensions of these cables. Accordingly, if something fails, it will be almost impossible to replace this part. And also you most likely will not be able to combine an adapter from one cable with a magnetic transmitter from another manufacturer.

conclusions

Well, summing up everything typed above, I can confidently say that magnetic cables have the right to exist. And despite all the shortcomings of this instance, which I listed earlier, it will come in handy for certain tasks and will be quite useful, making it easier to use your device.

This cable is useful for use cases where you need to connect a low-demand consumer. But for powerful devices, for which the correct location of the date contacts is important with any magnetic connector connected, I cannot recommend it and advise you to look at more expensive analogues.

I think that a magnetic cable is an ideal option for onlookers and forgetful people... When you often forget that your phone is charging not from the heat of your body, but is firmly fixed by a cable to the power source, or when there are only “hand-assers” around, who do not look where they are climbing and touch everything in their path ... Just at these moments, such a cable can save more than one nerve cell.

Finally

Phew… This is my first review, so please rate the review itself, not the product.

I will try to answer all your comments and, if necessary, I will supplement the review. Constructive criticism is welcome!

P.S. Even before I received this cable, I was interested in a flashlight Nitecore TIP, its manufacturer supplies it without a plug on the Micro USB connector. My guess is that the magnetic cable itself is ideal for use as a missing cover for protection, plus there is no need to remove the plug to recharge. As for tightness, that's another question...
