The line of affordable Alcatel PIXI smartphones has been replenished with new samples. Alcatel PIXI 4 received two variations with 5 "and 6" screens. Today we will take a look at the five-inch gadget and find out if the PIXI line has reached a new level or not.

Equipment
Alcatel PIXI 4 comes in a compact white and blue cardboard box with a bright design.On the front side there is an image of a smartphone, a company logo and a model name.
On the left side is printed trademark legal information in different languages.
On the opposite side, the main technical characteristics of the gadget are listed and photographs are shown within the "Polaroid" type, demonstrating the presence of this mode in the phone (for more details, see the "Camera" section).
On small edges, the Alcatel logo is minimalistically "flaunting" and a brief information about the device is pasted: model code, IMEI, supported communication standards, etc.
Inside the box, in addition to the device itself, are: a 5V 550mA power adapter, a 1m micro-USB cable for connecting to a PC, a Getting Started leaflet, a booklet with information on safety measures and warranty conditions, a warranty card and plug-in headsets.
Appearance
The material from which the body of the smartphone and the back panel are made is plastic.
The front side is also covered with plastic. Above the screen are the flash, earpiece, front-facing camera and notification light.
At the bottom there are touch buttons "back", "home", "menu". The response is fast, but they are not highlighted.
The back cover, as mentioned earlier, is made of plastic and has holes for the camera and flash. It opens very hard and with a characteristic crackle, which gives the feeling that it is about to break.
Under the back panel there is a 2000 mAh battery, two microSIM slots and a microSD card slot. The design feature is that the slot for the second SIM card and for the memory card are independent, while to insert or remove the SIM card from the first slot, you need to remove the battery.
On the top of the smartphone is a 3.5mm jack and a microphone.
On the right side there are physical power and volume buttons, and the power key is located higher, which makes it extremely inconvenient to use it.
At the bottom are a micro-USB connector and a second microphone.
Accordingly, there is nothing on the left side of the device.
Small, in terms of modern trends, the diagonal of the screen, the average thickness of the gadget and the slight roundness of the back cover make the PIXI 4 comfortable to hold in your hand during use.
Display
The Alcatel PIXI 4 is equipped with a 5-inch TFT-TN display capable of displaying 16 million colors. The color rendition is satisfactory. This is due to the type of matrix that slightly "darkens" the color.
The brightness of the screen is weak. It is almost impossible to use the telephone outdoors. "Adding fuel to the fire" plastic coating, which not only wildly glare even indoors, but also significantly narrows the viewing angles, distorting colors and weakening brightness. In addition, when pressed, the plastic is pressed a little harder than usual, leaving specific spots on the matrix.

Iron
The smartphone runs on a processor with a 64-bit structure MediaTek MT6735M, four cores ARM Cortex-A53 with a frequency of 1 GHz. The main differences from the MT6735 are the lower clock speed, as a result of which the ability to "curb" displays with a maximum resolution of 720p, but also more economical power consumption.
Games show all the typical performance drawbacks: the image is blurry, the textures are "ladder". In some applications, there are some slowdowns after loading.
The amount of RAM is 1 GB - the minimum for the basic functions of the gadget. In everyday use, the average load is 65-70%
An interesting situation has developed with the internal memory. Of the announced 8 GB, 4.23 GB is available according to the "Device memory" section in the phone's settings, or 3.6 GB according to the manufacturer's official website. In fact, the user will face a shortage after installing the main set of applications. If desired (which will surely arise), the memory can be expanded using a microSD card up to 32 GB.
The sensor responsible for screen rotation is very sensitive, which is why the image on the display rotates from the slightest vibrations, even when the smartphone is motionless on the table.
Software
Alcatel PIXI 4 runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow mobile operating system. Nice additions from the manufacturer include a quick access bar on the lock screen and the ability to zoom images in the gallery and the camera frame with one finger. The main menu sorts the apps alphabetically and doesn't seem to be changed.
Sound
In the presented gadget, the main speaker is constantly directed towards the user, since it is located in the place of the earpiece speaker and is such. The design is made with fine perforations, as a result of which the sound hardly "breaks out". This explains the rather low indicators of the maximum loudness of the emitted noise - 66.7 dB.
The smartphone comes with headset headphones, the quality of which does not imply long and intensive use.
Connection
Considering that the earpiece is the main one, the quality of the conversation is at a decent level. The interlocutor is heard well even in a noisy environment, in turn he hears well as well - noise cancellation works.
I am glad that there is a 4G module and that it works. Signal quality depends on the carrier's LTE coverage area.
The Wi-Fi module picks up the signal well, without breaks.
The GPS module installed in the smartphone cannot be called strong: in 18 seconds of the test, only 12 satellites were in the field of view, 9 of which were directly used.
Battery
The phone is equipped with a 2000 mAh Li-Ion battery. When checking the new battery test from Treshbox, the gadget lasted only 6 hours 36 minutes with Wi-Fi on, a brightness level of 50% and with one SIM card installed.
Camera
The main camera takes photos with a resolution of up to 8 megapixels. There is a single-tone flash, but there is no autofocus.
There is HDR technology, white balance and ISO adjustment, flicker reduction, face detection, automatic shutter when detecting a smile, etc. Available modes: Normal, Panorama, QR Scanner, Polaroid, Auto Retouch.
The "Polaroid" mode is a set of functions for processing photos: dividing photos into 2 or 4 parts, 17 filters and 14 frames to choose from, as well as the ability to add text, geotagging and date under the photo.

Results and conclusions
In terms of functionality, Alcatel PIXI 4 does not differ much from old phones with a rotary dial. In fact, there are only two differences, of which the first is mobility, wireless communication, and the second is some kind of camera, and it is understood that they will not use it often. The inconvenient location of the control buttons on the side, the mediocre screen quality and the catastrophic lack of memory spoil the overall impression of this unit. Regarding the cost of a smartphone, if you take a special offer for 3990 rubles from Beeline, then in this case the disadvantages described in the review do not greatly affect the user's pride. for that kind of money, there are few places where you can find a working, well-assembled device, also with LTE. In addition, the color palette of the rear panel is quite diverse. But the price is 7500 rubles. for a "clean" PIXI 4 can produce exactly the opposite effect described above.
