Sony xperia z3 and compact comparison. Comparing flagships: Sony Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact

The writing of this menu comparison was prompted by such a frequent question about what to choose - Sony Xperia Z3 or Xperia Z3 Compact? Most often it is asked by beginners who have a certain amount of money to purchase a flagship smartphone from a Japanese brand, but don’t know which model to take. The only significant difference that really affects the comfort and ease of use individually for everyone is the physical dimensions and everything that follows from this. This is what would be decisive for me when choosing between these smartphones, since both of them have powerful technical parameters and will bring pleasure from use.

Some people like big phones, others like smaller ones; Some people want to have a device with a larger screen, and for others, 4 and a half inches is more than enough - it’s purely a matter of taste and preference. However, it would be better to compare the Xperia Z3 Compact to clearly see the difference and possible advantages of one of the models over its brother.

Visually, both phones look great thanks to the OmniBalance design. Both of them are covered with protective glass on the front and back, but the side edges of the Xperia Z3 are metal, while the Z3 Compact is covered with translucent plastic, creating a three-dimensional effect, so the phones are tactilely different. The dimensions of the smartphones are as follows: 146 x 72 x 7.3 mm and 152 grams, versus 127 x 64.9 x 8.6 mm and 129 grams. Both are IP68 certified - protecting the case from water and dust penetration when the plugs are kept closed.

The second significant difference arising from the physical dimensions is the size of the display. The Xperia Z3 has a 5.2-inch IPS display with Full HD resolution (1920 by 1080), and the Xperia Z3 Compact has a 4.6-inch IPS matrix with HD resolution (1280 by 720). Both screens are high-quality, with maximum viewing angles, bright and rich color reproduction, and the picture looks great on them. The fact that a compact model has a lower resolution does not mean that the screen is worse - given its dimensions, this resolution is more than enough. Of course, watching movies and playing games is more comfortable on a larger display.

The hardware basis of both phones is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset: a 4-core processor with an operating frequency of 2.5 GHz and Adreno 330 video. The amount of internal memory is also the same - 16 GB, expandable using microSD cards. The difference lies in the amount of RAM: 3 GB in the Xperia Z3 and 2 GB in the Xperia Z3 Comapct, but in practice, again, the mini version is enough for this volume, and in synthetic tests it even shows superiority (the lower screen resolution plays into its hands). The battery capacity is also different: 3100 mAh and 2600 mAh, but here there is no significant difference in battery life, both smartphones are leaders in this parameter, beating most competitors in terms of operating time, demonstrating almost equal battery life. But still, the Z3 Compact is a little more durable.

When it comes to comparing cameras, you won't believe it, but here the technical parameters are identical - the main 20.7-megapixel Exmor RS matrix and the 2.2-megapixel front sensor. However, in actual use, it is noted that photos and videos from the Xperia Z3 come out of slightly better quality, which is apparently due to the software part. Although in general, the end result is approximately the same and both phones will satisfy you in terms of a shooting device.

To summarize, I would like to emphasize once again that the most important differences are the dimensions, display size and, perhaps, the price - the difference in cost in the official Sony Store reaches 9 thousand rubles at the time of writing.

A couple of comparison videos between Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact:

In contact with

One of the company's latest top-end products was the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact - a small, powerful smartphone that immediately attracted the attention of many users who wanted a powerful device, but in a compact body. Practice with the first “compact” has shown that this kind of device is at a premium and third-party manufacturers cannot offer such a combination to potential consumers. But when planning to buy a small, powerful phone, users are often faced with the choice of which is better – Sony Xperia Z3 Compact or Xperia Z1 Compact and which smartphone to choose.

Of course, even without a bunch of text, it’s clear that the new product is better than its predecessor in almost all respects, and yet we decided to compare the Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z1 Compact.

Design

In terms of design, smartphones, like twin brothers, follow the general concept of OmniBalance. But the new one looks a little nicer - that's a fact. In terms of dimensions, the phones are identical, but the Xperia Z3 Compact has become 0.9 millimeters thinner and its dimensions are 127 x 64.9 x 8.6 mm, versus 127 x 64.9 x 9.5 mm for the Xperia Z1 Compact. But the Japanese managed to introduce a larger display into a similar body of the new product, reducing the frames and a more capacious battery. Weight was also reduced by 8 grams (129 versus 137). If the side edges of the first compact were metal, then on the third they are made of translucent resin, and the corners are reinforced with polymer, which will protect the phone in case of falls. The Z3 Compact feels better in the hand and looks more interesting too. By the way, the power button is also larger and more convenient.

The presented color scheme of the new product is also more interesting: black, white, green and orange, versus white, black, pink and yellow.

Another plus in the direction of the new model is that it is covered with protective glass on both the front and back, while the first-born has a plastic back cover. Both smartphones are certified for protection against dust and moisture, but the Xperia Z3 Compact looks better here too, because its protection rating is IP65/68, versus IP55/58 in the Xperia Z1 Compact. I also note that the new mini-flagship works with nanoSIM, and the previous one with microSIM.

On the front panel of the Xperia Z3 mini there are two stereo speakers, which will provide an even better experience for watching videos, listening to music and playing games.

Display

The Sony Xperia Z3 Compact's screen has grown to 4.6 inches, compared to 4.3 inches on the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact. In both cases, IPS panels with a resolution of 1280 by 720 (HD) are used and it is more than enough for such dimensions. The difference, it would seem, is not big, but with the same compactness, having a larger display is a definite plus. In addition, the screen of the new product occupies 70.6% of the front panel, while the previous model has much lower - 61.7%.

Camera

Here we see identical camera parameters - a 20.7 Megapixel module with a 1/2.3-inch matrix. But there are already advantages in technical integration: firstly, the Xperia Z3 Compact has a lens with an equivalent focal length of 25 mm compared to 27 mm, and the flash is located a little further from the lens, which will eliminate possible flare and highlights. The new product also increases ISO sensitivity from 6400 to 12800. As for the software, the image processing algorithms are also much better in the new mini-flagship.

Battery and performance

In terms of hardware, the Xperia Z3 Compact has also been improved. What the smartphone should immediately be praised for is its 2600 mAh battery (), which is clearly superior to the 2300 mAh battery of the Xperia Z1 Compact. However, in practice, both the first and second models show excellent battery life results.

Another third compact received a more powerful 4-core Snapdragon 801 2.5 GHz processor versus Snapdragon 800 2.3 GHz. Both in synthetic tests and in real life, smartphones are very fast and often outperform well-known flagships from other manufacturers. Both have 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal memory.

Watch video comparisonXperiaZ3Compact andXperiaZ1Compact

Finally, it’s worth saying that, of course, in many respects the new Z3 Compact has an advantage, but its progenitor is also no slouch. It’s worth holding both smartphones in your hands to make your final choice. As for the price, at the time of writing a comparison in the official Sony store, the price of the new Xperia Z3 Compact is 29,990 rubles, and the cost of the Xperia Z1 Compact is 25,990 rubles - not a big difference, but the choice is always yours.

And so, I propose the following scheme: start our long review with general impressions and descriptions of the devices, then smoothly move on to video reviews and finish the post with a detailed comparison of the characteristics of both smartphones in order to: make the article as effective and informative as possible! Go;)

Despite the fact that Sony has a flagship model, the Xperia Z3, in many ways the Xperia Z3 Compact can also be considered a flagship, because, unlike most budget phones, the Xperia Z3 Compact has quite impressive specifications. Undoubtedly, both of these devices are visually very similar, and are made in the standard Sony “OmniBalance” design, however, the Z3 and Z3 Compact differ in size and some other body features! The thing is that it has rounded metal frames with polycarbonate inserts at the corners of the smartphone in order to soften the impact when dropped. The inserts distribute the load on the smartphone when it falls - and sometimes this saves the screen from mechanical damage! By the way, the plugs have also undergone changes and become smaller; in addition, the not very elegant speaker holes on the bottom end have disappeared, and the speaker itself has moved to the front panel.

IN Xperia Z3 Compact The materials of the side frame itself have also been changed. Now they are not made of metal as in the Xperia Z3, but of polycarbonate and have also become transparent, which has changed the overall visual perception of the smartphone as a whole, making it more youthful. There’s no point in arguing which looks cooler, it’s a matter of taste, but I can say that even visually the devices are positioned in completely different ways. The Z3 looks “statelier,” and the Compact is somehow more youthful or something!

Xperia Z3 compact

In terms of color options, the Sony Xperia Z3 comes in black, white, copper and silver-green, while the Xperia Z3 Compact comes only in black, white, orange and mint green.

Screen Xperia Z3 is 5.2 inches, resolution 1920x1080 pixels, IPS, automatic brightness adjustment. The Sony Xperia Z3 Compact smartphone is also equipped with an IPS sensor matrix, a diagonal of 4.6 inches, and a resolution of 1280 × 720 pixels. The pixel density in the Z3 Compact is 319 ppi, the outside of the screen is covered with protective glass without a factory protective film - Sony finally decided to abandon it, and the thickness of the side frames from the edge of the screen to the edge of the body is approximately 3 millimeters (it looks very cool!).

Flagship phone models from well-known companies such as Apple and Sony have always been in demand among buyers. It is often difficult for people to independently decide on the choice of smartphone.

Comparison of smartphones

It is for this purpose that the article will provide a comparative review of the Sony Xperia Z3 compact and Apple iPhone 6 models.

Specifications

The Sony smartphone is equipped with a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor with a frequency of up to 2.5 GHz, while the new iPhone has at its disposal a dual-core Apple A8 solution of its own production, with a frequency of 1.4 GHz.

The z3 compact has 2 GB of RAM, while the Apple smartphone has only 1 GB, which is somewhat surprising considering the price of the device.

Autonomy

As for the battery, its capacity is 2600 mAh in the model from Sony and 1810 mAh in the smartphone from the American company

But capacity is just numbers; in use, voracious Android eats up the battery faster, so there is no winner in comparing the Sony Xperia z3 compact and iPhone 6, because both devices have almost the same operating time.

Smartphone from Apple

Watching the video was not difficult for the new product from Apple; everything looks at a high level.

operating system

Smartphones have different operating systems and it would be incorrect to conduct a battle between the z3 compact and the iPhone 6 here.

We just note that the Apple iPhone uses iOS 8 with new features and interesting applications.

Sony z3 compact runs the updated version of Android 4.4.4 KitKat. There is Sony's own proprietary shell here, and if previously the graphical component itself looked poor, then this version looks very cool.

Price

Those wishing to buy an IPhone 6 will be asked to pay at least 32 thousand rubles for it. depending on the size of the hard drive, but the new Sony z3 compact will cost those interested a fixed amount of approximately 24 thousand rubles.

Bottom line

It's difficult to say which of these two smartphones is better, because both devices are good in their own ways. Thanks to this comparison, you now know the features of each model and will certainly be able to determine which one is best for you.

Your choice: Sony Xperia Z3 compact or iPhone 6?
