The first information has appeared online about a special keyboard and mouse set for Xbox One from Razer and Microsoft, as well as details of support for devices from other brands in games.

Microsoft has prepared a presentation for developers of games and gaming devices for the Xbox One. It talks about creating the most convenient keyboard and mouse for the console based on existing Razer devices. The presentation noted that the Razer Turret keyboard will allow gamers to enjoy mouse and keyboard control while sitting on the couch. This keyboard has an additional surface on the right side that acts as a mouse pad. The document also talks about the Razer BlackWidow Chroma V2. This keyboard has ample options for customizing the backlight color. For example, ability keys can glow blue when ready and red when on cooldown. Apparently, Microsoft wants to combine the functionality of both keyboards in one device of the premium Xbox line, which currently only includes the Xbox One Elite gamepad.

According to the site, Microsoft officially announced support for keyboards and mice in games from third-party developers at the end of 2017. Thanks to the leak, the first information appeared. From the presentation it became known that game developers must provide support for five mouse buttons and a wheel. You can connect any mouse that is supported by Windows via USB. There will be no support for third-party drivers or Bluetooth. There are separate conditions for developers of multiplayer games. The balance of gamepad players and keyboard players will be the responsibility of the game creators. Developers decide for themselves whether to add support for these controllers at all. If they do add it, then they should also track keyboard/mouse vs gamepad usage in the game itself. Microsoft strongly recommends making keyboard and mouse use a part of your matchmaking rules.

Previously, information appeared that the autumn update of Windows 10 would add official support for the Razer RGB lighting system. Perhaps only then will gamers see a new keyboard from Microsoft and Razer.

Microsoft recently officially announced that it plans to bring keyboard and mouse support for games and apps to the Xbox One.

Users started asking a lot of questions. The main concern is that users with different input devices will unite on the same servers. After all, using a keyboard and mouse gives you a significant advantage over a gamepad.

At the last gaming industry exhibition PAX 2017, Mike Ibarra spoke about the implementation of a project to connect a mouse and keyboard to the Xbox One. According to him, the company closely monitors the implementation of this function. Microsoft will release detailed guides for developers to differentiate players depending on the control devices. That is, in multiplayer, players with joysticks will play separately from users with a mouse, but will be able to connect to them at will.

Connecting a keyboard and mouse to your Xbox offers a number of benefits.

  1. In shooter games like Destiny, players will have the ability to react quickly and aim more accurately without losing precision in the process.
  2. Along with the ability to use the keyboard on Xbox One, games of new genres will appear, such as RPG, MOBA (like DOTA2 and Heroes of the Storm), RTS (like Age of Empires).
  3. Using a mouse and keyboard will allow developers to reduce development time. For example, the release of the Cities: Skylines simulator for Xbox could not happen precisely because of the need to develop a user interface for the gamepad.
  4. Using a keyboard can be convenient not only in games, but also in many applications.

Despite all the benefits of connecting a mouse to the Xbox, there is a problem.

If every multiplayer game is divided into gamers with gamepads and gamers with a mouse, this will have an impact on the speed of matchmaking and the quality of opponent selection.

Mike Ibarra also noted that the choice of whether to enable keyboard support is up to the game creators. At the moment, these devices work in the alpha version of the Minecraft game. It is not yet known when this opportunity will appear in other toys, but according to promises this should happen very soon. So we are waiting for a software update for XOne.

The first revision of the Xbox One appeared in Russia in 2014, a year after the official start of sales in the United States. Today, in addition to the updated versions X and S, there is many additional accessories.

Some additional accessories completely replace the usual controller. We will talk about them further.

Professional controllers

How do joysticks for Xbox One differ from more functional analogues?

The professional gamepad for Xbox One is called . He looks really elite. It has become stronger, gained a little weight, acquired additional petals on the back of the body, and has the ability to lock the triggers. A cross that looks more like a circle allows you to more accurately control your character, especially in fighting games. If desired, it can be quickly replace with regular one.

Sold complete with gamepad several stick options: short, long, and with smooth mushrooms.

Now each player can customize the gamepad for themselves in a special program that can be downloaded for free in the market.

This pleasure is not cheap - from 10 thousand rubles.

Is it possible to charge such a gamepad from Xbox One? No. Still included batteries and a special USB cable, but the battery never showed up.

Kinect 2.0

The “smart camera” has been familiar to everyone since the days of the Xbox 360. The updated version can be purchased separately or obtained by purchasing a special “bundle” with the console, where it comes included.

Those who had it already know What is Kinect for Xbox One used for?.

Xbox One Kinect is a device that recognizes the player's movements and assigning them to the character on the screen. Unlike the PlayStation Camera, which works in conjunction with the PS Move, no additional controllers required for kinect.

The camera is best suited for casual games based on body movements: sports simulators, fitness, dancing and more.

Xbox One S and Kinect are a separate conversation. Immediately after unpacking the new version of the console, many discovered that port for connection this device no longer exists.

Connect Kinect to Xbox One needed in the connector between the USB ports and the IR port.

Most likely, Microsoft considered that this direction is no longer promising and does not want to impose it on new users. This is also evidenced by the critically small number of new games that support Kinect.

However, the cost of this device starts at approximately from 8-10 thousand rubles, which is a little strange, given the lack of games and support on updated consoles.

Keyboard and mouse

PC gamers and devoted fans of this platform tirelessly repeat that on the console uncomfortable to play first person shooters. But in fact, the solution to the problem has long been invented and implemented - anyone can purchase and connect mouse for xbox one.

We've sorted out aiming, but how to move? The mouse comes with a keyboard, which you can connect Xbox One.

Everyone probably knows how to use these devices. Not only is the mouse convenient to play with, it makes it easier to navigate menus and the Internet browser. A certified keyboard is a little different from the usual one. Left on it only the buttons needed for the game.

In addition, there are special emulators that connect to the controller. The console thinks that only a gamepad is connected to it, but in fact the player controls everything using a wireless mouse and a small joystick.

Devoted console fans do not approve of the emergence of computer peripherals. The point is not only in principles, but also in some imbalance, which is occasionally observed in multiplayer mode.

Steering wheel

At the time of the Xbox One's release, there weren't many next-gen games. Microsoft has bet on the exclusive Forza Motorsport 5.

This game is different from other racing simulators excellent physics and graphics engine, which together makes it possible to immerse yourself in the world of racing. The game has an excellent first-person view, where you can see the pilot's hands, instrument panel and steering wheel.

To make it more interesting for players who bought Forza at the start of sales of the console to wait for the release of new games, it has gone on sale several variations of gaming wheels.

You can choose and connect your steering wheel to your Xbox One depending on your gaming needs. If you are an avid car enthusiast and want to get the most out of the game, you can choose set with pedals and gearbox, and if you're not that into racing but still want something more, grab a small gamepad shaped like a steering wheel.

Now the Xbox One is firmly on its feet, so there are more than enough racing simulators that you can play on the steering wheel.

You can also purchase a digital audio cable and connect speakers to Xbox One to get even more emotions from the game.

Microsoft's Xbox One gaming console can work with some physical keyboards (unfortunately, it doesn't work with mice yet).

Therefore, if you need, for example, to somewhat optimize the work with text on Xbox One, then you can use the most ordinary keyboard. Typing text with it is much more convenient than all this tedious fussing with the virtual on-screen keyboard and controller.

Plus, you can also install the Xbox One SmartGlass mobile app on your existing smartphone or tablet.

Then your console will have both a physical keyboard and a large touchpad for navigating the menu.

However, the Xbox One supports regular keyboards with some limitations.

In particular:

  • The console, we repeat, only supports keyboards, does not support mice.
  • Bluetooth keyboards are not supported, only USB. Since the Xbox One is not equipped with its own Bluetooth module, you can connect either a wired keyboard or a wireless one, but only via a USB adapter.
  • With Xbox One, the keyboard can only be used to enter text; you won’t be able to use it like a game controller yet.
Keyboard support is not a standard feature of the original Xbox One, but it was officially added (as an additional option as part of an update in 2014).

We also note that the other day Microsoft promised to “screw in” full support for keyboard and mouse into the Xbox One, but then, in the future. Therefore, at this point in time, the Xbox One is clearly inferior to the PS4 in this parameter, to which you can connect mice and keyboards (both via USB and via Bluetooth), and use them in the game.

How to connect a keyboard to Xbox One

As you probably already understood, this procedure itself is extremely simple. We connect the cable (or adapter) of the keyboard to the USB port of the console (it has two of them on the back of the case and another one on the left, next to the disk slot). Once connected, the keyboard should work immediately, even without any messages or other signs on the screen. If it suddenly doesn’t work, you can check whether it’s connected in the console settings ( “Settings” -> “Devices and Accessories” ). If the keyboard model is not found in the list, then you need to double-check the quality of the connection.

Once connected, you can use the keyboard to enter text into a test field in any part of the console interface, including the Microsoft Edge browser, and use the arrow and Enter keys to navigate menus. Shortcut keys should also work, but also with some restrictions. For example, you can use the Tab and Enter buttons to navigate around a web page and switch between links. This, of course, is not as convenient as scrolling and clicking with the mouse. Therefore, we repeat again, the keyboard on the Xbox One is only useful for typing. And then, only in cases where you have to type a lot and/or often.

How to Play on Xbox One with Keyboard and Mouse

Here we seem to contradict ourselves, but, nevertheless, we will explain the essence of the fable. There is an opinion that even after Microsoft makes the Xbox One support a keyboard and mouse, you still won’t be able to play normally with them.

The fact is that all toys for consoles are initially developed for game controllers. Therefore, developers, especially of multiplayer games, are unlikely to want to change anything so that gamers with keyboards and mice feel as comfortable in the game as gamers with joysticks. Actually, for the same reason, even today very few multiplayer games are released with cross-platform support for PC and consoles.

However, there are also unofficial ways to get around this limitation. One of them is called the Xim 4 adapter for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 (this is it in the picture above, you can enlarge it). With this device, the console perceives signals from the keyboard and mouse as signals from a game controller. Therefore, with Xim 4 you can play on Xbox One in the same way. as on PC, i.e. with keyboard and mouse.

But there is one unpleasant nuance: the device costs as much as 13,500 rubles (even on Amazon its price is $150). You can probably find a cheaper analogue (for example, the MayFlash model), but judging by reviews on the Internet, a worthy replacement for Xim 4 in terms of price-quality ratio has not yet been released. Something like that.
