Automatic hardware initialization using configuration space
In order to access the device through the memory or I / O address space, the system software or OS programs base address registers (Base Address Registers(also called BARs) by sending configuration commands to the controller. At the beginning of the system boot, all devices are inactive, they are not assigned addresses at which device drivers can communicate with them. Either the BIOS or the operating system itself accesses the device when help addressing through the chipset or PCI controller and configures BARs in the configuration address space.
