Creative video amateurs and users often have a desire to create their own video, in which they could combine several fragments into one, make smooth transitions between frames, add video effects and audio track, etc. There are a lot of editing programs: from completely professional Sony Vegas and Adobe premiere to easy-to-learn, amateur products VirtualDub and MovAvi Video Editor. Today we will discuss in detail what a simple, high-quality and fully functional video editing software for beginners AVS Video Editor.

Installing AVS Video Editor

Official site of the project - AVS-Video-Editor.

Before proceeding with the installation procedure, you need to download the distribution kit from the official website of the AVS4YOU company. Follow the link above and click the Download AVS Video Editor button.

After boot file will be downloaded, let's proceed to the installation process. It goes through the minimum number of stages in just two clicks.

Finally, the application is installed on the PC and we can start creating our masterpiece.

The only limitation free version- this is the presence of an advertising banner of the manufacturing company in the central part of the video. There are no functional limitations. It is also worth noting that in the AVS Video program Editor russian interface, which cannot but please users from the CIS countries and neighboring countries.

What operations are available on the main form of AVS Video Editor?

The top menu is located at the top of the form.

Here you can take steps to open and create a new project, export or import a media library (which is a set of video or graphic objects that can be used in your multimedia product). The rest of the functions can be activated using third-party software products from the same company. So, you can connect a camera and record a video sequence from it, or capture video directly from the screen using special program from the same line of AVS Screen Capture.

Actions available in the "Edit" menu are duplicated on the timeline, so functions such as multiple cropping, transitions, cropping, color can also be performed in the context menu invoked by right-clicking on the timeline.

The main sections for project management are closer to the middle of the central form, namely: Projects, Library, Transitions, Effects, Text, Voice, Menu, and Create. The first two of them perform the functions of creating and selecting an initial project for work, and selecting elements for installation, respectively. The rest of the sections perform purely design functions, and they will be discussed below, in the description of the tools in the AVS Video Editor video editing program for beginners.

Let's take a quick look at the first two categories for project management.

In the "Projects" section there are graphical buttons for selecting the source of a new project: "Import media files", "Capture from camera" and "Screen capture".

All the same operations can be done in the "Library" section, which will be discussed further.

The first subsection "Libraries" is the media library. There are buttons for importing, capturing from a camera or screen.

If you need to do one of the above, these buttons will be very useful. You can also use the top menu, namely its first section "File".

Deeper, the designers have placed a mini-file manager, from where you can simply drag and drop samples to compose your work (this can be audio and video files, graphics, background templates). The management process is facilitated by the two bottom buttons for adding and deleting folders, respectively, as well as the ability to rename directories.

A centrally located sub-form called "Samples" compactly contains samples of video, audio and images that can be used in slicing.

On the right is a media container with buttons for controlling the resulting video object. After applying filters, adding effects or text, you can preview the results of your creation by running the video for preview before finalizing. This window serves for this purpose.

What tools does the AVS Video Editor video editing software offer us?

Now let's talk about the possibilities of the program in the field of video editing and gluing. graphic images.

Next to the "Library" button there are additional functions of AVS Video Editor, namely: transitions, effects, text, voice, menus (if you want to record the final result of editing on a beautifully designed DVD with interactive control). The last in this row is the "Create" button, which allows you to combine all your developments into a single file, burn them to disk, or upload the result of your work to Facebook, Flickr or.

Let's dwell on each of these tools.

Essentially, a transition in editing is a smooth blend of two shots on television and in cinematography. The most straightforward transition is butt gluing. But AVS Video Editor allows you to use the transition of not only images, but also video fragments.

How do I add a transition? Click in the menu for selecting sections for project management on the item "Transitions" and select the transition you need. Then, having switched to the storyboard mode, drag the transition you like with the mouse to the arrow separating the two previously added media objects.

You can see the result of your creative research in the preview window on the right. Use the slider to find the episode you want.

Another visual content of the video sequence. Effects can be very different, from dividing a whole picture into fragmented mosaic tiles to decorative sepia, panorama and pencil sketching.

You can add an effect by switching to the timeline mode and dragging the icon of the selected effect from the library onto the line for video effects (it is the second in the timeline after the line for the main video).

After dragging and dropping, you can manually debug the duration of the effect by selecting the desired strip and moving the cursor to the edge of the fragment. If you see that the cursor's appearance has changed, you can shorten or stretch the bar, thereby decreasing or increasing the duration of the effect.

There are also many options for text design in the AVS Video Editor video editing software for beginners. There is a color gradient for every taste, and various animations, and all kinds of titles that allow you to turn your creation into a detailed comic strip or video presentation.

The method of adding text to the project is similar to the method of using effects described earlier, so we will not dwell on this point.

We need a microphone to record the voice. It could be like external headset and a microphone built into the laptop. All you need to do before recording is to adjust the recording volume, select the device and source, specify the format, frequency, bit rate and number of channels you need. If desired, you can set a small delay between the voice feed and the recording itself, as well as the limit after which the recording will be stopped.

- the last of the graphic design elements available in AVS Video Editor. Disc menu creation takes place in several stages. To make the menu more varied and rich, you can design it in a certain style, divide it into chapters, or supplement it with all sorts of content.

To set a style, select the "Styles" section in the "Disc Menu" category and select one of the templates available in the program. If you want to create your own style, you can do this by choosing the "Template" option from the menu and dragging the video you like from the library to the lower menu in the "Workspace" field. It is he who will be displayed in the menu when loading.

Next, go to the "Chapters" section. After clicking on the "Chapters" button in the "Disc Menu" section, indicate on the timeline the beginning of the segment from which the next chapter will begin and click the "Add" button above the timeline. This will create a new chapter for your video.

The section of the menu called "Content" duplicates the functionality of creating your own template from a library of samples, described earlier.

Ways of graphic and audio design of the project

All operations on the visual and audio design of the video can be performed using two methods: placing the corresponding sectors on the timeline and in the storyboard mode. You can switch between the timeline and the storyboard engine by clicking on the corresponding button on the right side of the screen below.

What's the difference between storyboard and timeline?

Storyboard mode allows you to flexibly adjust the line for the main video: specify which video fragments and graphic images will be included in the resulting version of the project, and which compositional effects will serve for the transition between the component parts. To place a video file or picture on the ruler, you need to drag the object with the mouse from the library to an empty block in the lower panel or to an arrow separating two interactive elements (in case of combination with a transition).

Timeline mode works in a different way. Here, each of the lines corresponds to its own type of object: the first line is for the main video, the second is for video effects, the third is for superimposing another video over the main one, the fourth is for texts, etc. A similar scheme works when creating a multitrack audio composition, where each of the bands serves its own purpose.

This concludes our step-by-step guide to editing video and graphic images in AVS Video Editor. The software for video editing for beginners from British developers is very easy to operate, does not require a lot of time to master and contains all the necessary functionality to make the video colorful, individual and use unique content when gluing, as you can see by trying it in practice.

AVS Video Editor

While the advanced user is busy mastering the countless functions of his equally advanced video editor, the beginner's gaze wanders aimlessly through articles and incomprehensible screenshots in them, abundantly supplied with incomprehensible descriptions. Let's try to correct this situation, without frightening the amateur with terms and keyboard shortcuts, describing the work in one of the programs, as if specially designed for a rookie frightened by the future volume of work.

AVS Video Editor, developed by the AVS Media team, is indispensable for those who do not want to delve deeply into the complexity of non-linear video editing and wage war with video formats. For owners mobile devices with video recording or playback functions this program can become a panacea for long time eliminating the need to use the software attached to the devices, often executed sloppily and hastily (not surprising, because the manufacturer of a cell phone with a camera has completely different tasks). But now we will be convinced of everything ourselves.

1. Installing the program

The trial version of the program can be downloaded from the home page, the volume of the single installer is ridiculously small - only 51 megabytes. When launched, the installer will immediately delight those who are at odds with foreign languages:

This means that the interface of the program you are installing is Russian, which removes at least half of the upcoming, already minor problems.

Installation takes less than a minute, reboot operating system not required - the program is already ready to work. And, as we can see, this program is not alone: along with it, three more applications settled in the system, AVS Audio Editor, AVS Mobile Uploader (attention, owners of mobile video devices!) And, finally, AVS Project Mover.

After installation, AVS Video Editor does not offer to register, but starts working in the trial version mode. To register the program (enter the registration key), you need an Internet connection, since the database of registration keys against which the program is checked is stored on the server.

2. Getting started

Let's start with the main program of the package - the hero of today's review. Those who like to change the "skins" of programs will be satisfied: color scheme The AVS Video Editor interface can be changed by clicking on the arrow in the upper right part of the window and selecting the desired one from the drop-down list.

Work in the program, traditionally for simple editors, is divided into several stages, to which you need to go through the buttons always visible to the user located in the left part of the program window.

  • tab Start includes steps such as Capture and Import Media;
  • tab Editing will allow you to apply various effects to clips, insert transitions between scenes, as well as add any sound and overlay text over the video;
  • tab Preservation contains a list of formats into which it is possible to export the finished film;
  • in the tab Recording there are options for creating ready-made discs;
  • tab Help includes sections help system... Here there is also an opportunity to go to a page on the Internet, where there are detailed (unfortunately, there is no Russian language) animated lessons on working in this program.

Immediately after starting the program, you will see a list of the last open projects, as well as links to examples. It's strange, because we launched the program for the first time, where did we get the ready-made projects in the folder with the user's documents?

Yes, it was the installer that helpfully created short film projects to showcase its capabilities to the user. Try to open any of the projects listed at the top of the window, take a look at the location of clips on the timeline, transitions and titles. And now we will create our own project on our own.

Click the " New project". In the window that opens, you must enter the name of the new project and determine its location by selecting desired disk and a folder.

The next window defines the properties of the project. At the top of the window, it is prudent to indicate the need to select the format in which you want to see the finished film.

The number of settings in this window can confuse an inexperienced user, and if you wish, you can switch to a simplified view of the settings by clicking the " Simple Mode". Here you already see ready installations, in which no changes can be made, thus, there is no risk of accidentally spoiling the future film.

Detailed descriptions of each of the formats will not allow you to make the wrong choice. We will try to create a DVD video disc using the appropriate template.

3. Capturing video and importing files

If you need to process the material shot by your digital camera, then, first of all, you need to transfer the video from the camera to HDD computer. Connect the camera to your computer and press the button Capture... The program will switch to video capture mode. If you are the correct camera, then on the right side of the program window in the tab Device its parameters will become available. If your system has several capture devices, select the one you need from the drop-down list above.

Go to the tab Record... Here you need to define the folder in which the captured video will be located. If you want to create DVD good quality, the other parameters should not be changed.

The third tab is Sheduller- may be needed if you do not want to have a single huge file as a result of capturing, in this case you can set the automatic splitting of the captured material to separate files by time or by volume in megabytes. There is also the possibility of activating the automatic stop of recording when a certain time or the total volume of files is reached.

At the push of a button Start capture will begin, during which in the tab Device a counter will run, displaying the duration and size of the captured files. While capturing, you can double-click the video window to expand it to full screen. When you are finished capturing, exit this mode by pressing the button. Close and you will see a list of the files you captured. Select them and import them into your project by clicking the button Import... If you want the program to automatically split the video into scenes, check the corresponding box in the settings. Guided by the intensity of the colors in the video picture and some other parameters, the program will automatically determine the places where the scenes change, and place the appropriate marks defining the beginning and end of each scene. It won't take a lot of time - this module works smartly.

4. Video editing

So, in front of you is a virtual timeline, at the top of which is Media library(all imported materials are accumulated here), and the lower part is your future movie, consisting of a sequence of clips connected by transitions.

Everything here is clear and simple. In order to add a clip to the movie, it is enough to grab it with the mouse cursor and, by dragging, drop it on any of the segments of the timeline.

However, before placing a clip on the timeline, it is often necessary to "trim" it slightly, that is, to remove unnecessary start and end frames. To do this, right-click on the desired clip and select the item Properties.

The Clip Properties window appears, where you can set the start and end points of the clip.

Pay attention to the rest of the tabs in this window. Tab Speed will allow you to change the playback speed of the clip - decrease or increase it by 10 times in 0.1x increments. Here you can adjust the sound for such a clip - either assign it the same duration as the video, or remove it altogether.

The purpose of the remaining tabs is as follows: Aspect contains tools for changing the aspect ratio of the video frame, Video properties displays information about video and codec, and Audio properties in addition to viewing information, it also allows you to increase the sound volume from -50db to + 20db (nevertheless, you should be more careful with the sound, you do not need to change its level without special need).

Let's go back to making the movie and look at the transitions. Click the button Transitions, select one of the 284 transitions from the library and drag it to the timeline, placing it in between the clips.

The transitions built into the program are fairly standard and not very diverse. The transitions cannot be fine-tuned - and it is not necessary, given the huge number of their options.

Adding effects to clips is also easy. Click the button Video Effects... A list will open containing 40 different, categorized effects. Select the appropriate one and drag it to the clip that you want to transform with the usual movement.

Now is the time to see what we got after what we did. Click the button Prev viewing located on the right side of the program window just above the timeline. The preview window that appears allows, in addition to the preview itself, to edit some of the effects, namely, to change the size of their area of action.

The shape of the areas can be not only rectangular, as in the example above. Depending on the type of effect, their different settings appear in the lower right corner of the program window in case you select a track of this effect on the timeline.

Experiment with transitions and effects, because sometimes, even by accident, you can achieve interesting results.

Unfortunately, this program lacks the ability to edit transitions and effects using key points, that is, if you apply a black and white movie effect to any clip, then the effect of this effect will be the same throughout its duration. You can bypass this limitation by changing the duration of the effect: hook the mouse over the edge of its track, and drag it in any direction, decreasing or increasing the duration.

Inserting titles into a project is done in a similar way. Button press Overlay. text will display fifty available title presets.

When you hover the mouse cursor over any of the presets, its icon will show an example of animation of future titles. Select the desired preset and drag its icon onto the timeline. The title properties will be displayed on the right side of the program window, as usual. Here you can enter your text, as well as change the distance between the text and the edge of the screen, select the font and its color.

Button press Additionally will open a window with two tabs containing advanced text settings, such as transparency, shadow, font outline, as well as its decoration: gradient fill and texture:

Finished with the setup appearance titles, set the duration you want. Please note: the animated titles track is divided into two parts, the left part of it is the animation duration, and the right part is the duration of the static half of the titles. The duration of both parts can be changed - just drag their borders with the mouse.

When working, you must follow the sequence of effects and titles. So, titles should always occupy the lowest track on the timeline - otherwise they will become invisible, being overlapped by some effect. The consistency of effects is also important. Try to move any effect you applied up or down relative to another effect, watching the result of such an operation in the video viewer.

Changing the location of tracks with effects and titles is controlled by two buttons located in the row of the timeline toolbar:

You can achieve interesting results by overlaying one video on top of another. Such operations can be performed in any modern video editor, and this is done very simply.

Click the button Overlay. video, and import any video file into the empty library so far (it is not necessary to limit yourself to only one video at all, you can also overlay pictures on top of the video).

Now, as always, drag the desired object onto the timeline. The video will immediately appear in the preview window, superimposed on top of the main one.

Here, in the poor settings, you can change the size of this video and its position in the frame.

But these settings seem to be poor until you press the button Additionally.

In addition to such effects as the transparency of the video and the border around the frame, there is an incomprehensible to the uninitiated function with the name Rear projection... In fact, it turned out that this name hides a rather popular function called keying, that is, the exclusion of unnecessary color from the video frame (this effect is used all the time on television in virtual studios). In this case, it is possible to exclude two colors that are selected by the Eyedropper tool - you need to click on the icon with this tool and, without releasing the mouse button, drag the cursor to the place of the frame where the desired (or rather, unnecessary) color is located.

The degree of "exclusion" of a color is set by the "Threshold" slider. The higher the percentage of this threshold, the more closely related shades will be excluded. For example, if you have selected a light blue color as a reference, then with a threshold value of 100%, all colors close to it will be excluded along with the selected color: cyan, blue, light green, etc. So, if you have a video or a picture with a monochrome background, you can safely create an original video collage.

Sound editing

Let's move on to sound editing, which is no less important to a good movie than the video itself. Click the button Add audio.

The interface has been transformed again by opening the sound editing tools:

Import the sound file you want to add to your movie into the library and drag it to the timeline. The added audio level relative to the video audio is adjusted using the module Audio level called by pressing a button.

If there is a need for more precise sound adjustment (for example, at a certain point in time it is necessary to mute the background music you have added), then cue points should be used here. To create one such cue point, simply right-click in the desired location on the audio track. The lower the point is, the lower the sound level in this place, and vice versa. Subsequently, the key point can be moved in any direction, thereby changing the sound level at a specific point in the track.

It is also easy to add a voice commentary to a movie. But first, check from which source the program will record sound. Click on the program menu Options -> Environment settings, and select the source you need from the drop-down list. Here you can make the audio signal coming from the microphone amplified.

Click the microphone icon button. A warning message will appear and by pressing the button OK recording starts.

Watching the video during recording is necessary so that you do not wonder whether you are speaking your commentary at the right time - the film is before your eyes.

It so happens that the sound added to the movie needs deeper editing than just changing its level. This is where one of the satellite programs installed with AVS Video Editor comes in handy. Highlight, for example, a sound track recorded from a microphone, and press the key F4 or a button. AVS Audio Editor will automatically start with the sound file already loaded and ready for editing.

The potential of this program, at first glance, is modest, but it copes with the role of a fast editor with a bang, besides, nothing prevents you from expanding the functionality by connecting DirectX filters third party developers... There are such commonly required functions as removing hiss (when recording from audio tapes, for example), adding echo, changing the tone of the voice and many other interesting features.

After you edit the sound file, close the program and save your changes.

6. Export of material

It's time to translate the project you have created into the form that suits you - save the video in an easy-to-view format. Click the tab Preservation... On the left side of the program window, there will be icons for the file types into which you can translate your movie.

As you can see, among the fairly common formats, such as MPEG and WMV, there are RealMedia, QuickTime, and, finally, 3GP and MP4 formats familiar to the owners of mobile devices.

Having selected the format you need, click the corresponding button and go to the detailed settings. Let's try to create a 3GP file that can be played on a cell phone.

In the window that appears, you can see a considerable number of available settings, but first of all it is best to select the desired preset. Their number is more than enough for the resulting video to be played by all modern mobile devices.

After choosing a preset, you just need to adjust the aspect ratio of the frame and select the folder in which the finished movie will be saved.

7. Create a disc

Go to the tab Recording- here you can see the types of discs that the program can create. As you can see in the picture, in addition to standard VCD / SVCD and XviD / DivX discs, we can make our own DVD. A little clarification is needed: before you create a DVD, you must work on its future menu. So press the button DVD Menu... This time, the program interface has changed beyond recognition - this is the module responsible for authoring a DVD-video disc. Let's take a closer look at the opportunities that have opened before us.

The available DVD-Video disc menu templates are now located at the top of the program window. All of them are divided into categories according to the theme of the design. To use a template you like, click on its icon with the mouse and drag it to the empty black space. The selected template is instantly displayed on this virtual screen.

To the left of the screen is a virtual control panel for the DVD-player. But it's too early to click on the buttons - we don't have chapters arranged. If you do not feel the need for them - your right, leave the menu as it is - with a single link Play... And yet it will be much more convenient to view the film later, choosing the necessary episodes. Therefore, let's create a list of such episodes - chapters.

The arrangement of these chapters is very simple: during playback or fast forwarding of the movie, stop at the right place and press the button Add- the next chapter will be displayed on the time ruler with a red dotted line, and its title will appear in the list. The title of the chapter can be changed - but this does not play any role in the creation of the menu, except it will add clarity and help you avoid confusion.

By the way, do not forget to try the automatic chapter placement module - press the button Auto add and choose one of the three options.

After arranging all the chapters, take a look at the screen on the left, where your menu is displayed. See, under the screen there are new tabs with names Segments 1, Segments 2 etc.?

These are auto-generated additional menus that contain links to multiple chapters you have placed. Navigation through these menus is carried out in the standard way for DVD-video discs - click on the buttons on virtual console management. The figure below shows an example of such a menu. Do not be surprised that there are inscriptions in Russian here (there are no Russian-language templates in the program). These templates are regular jpg images located in working folder programs, and they are easy to change using any raster editor - insert your text or even a photo.

It seems that this will have to be done all the time - after all, AVS Video Editor lacks tools for editing menus, which seems quite fair considering the scanty volume of the program's installer.

Once you've finished creating the menu, proceed to the last step. Click the button DVD burning and select a preset. It is recommended not to skimp and choose a profile that creates the highest quality video; to standard DVD disc about one hour of this video will be recorded.

Now it remains to select the folder where the video will be saved and wait for the end of the rendering. At the end of this process, the program will offer to burn the disc.

If you do not want to start burning immediately (indeed, it would not hurt to check the correct operation of the resulting disc using software players first), press the button Close- the DVD video files will remain on the hard disk in the folder you specified earlier. Now you can independently transfer them to optical media at any time using any other programs.

8. Assistant programs

As already mentioned, along with AVS Video Editor, three more programs have settled in the system. If sound editor We have already mentioned AVS Audio Editor, but not a word was said about the two remaining programs. There are reasons for this: AVS Project Mover and AVS Mobile Uploader are designed to work with ready-made material - projects or video files.

AVS Project Mover helps you transfer the project you are currently working on from one computer to another.

And the AVS Mobile Uploader module frees the owner of mobile devices playing videos from using the software that comes with his device. Such software, in most cases used only for the usual exchange of files between a computer and, for example, a phone, very often it is a cumbersome and inconvenient program, hung with hundreds of unnecessary functions.

This module works with Apple iPod directly, correctly handling the "delicate" structure of the player's memory. In addition to Apple iPod, AVS Mobile Uploader works with most popular video players such as Sony PSP, Archos, Creative Zen Vision and mobile phones: full list devices (including specific models) is given in the detailed help for the program. The connection to the devices is made via USB, Bluetooth or IrDA.

For a novice user, work in AVS Video Editor will leave the impression of easy creativity, the opportunity to stumble upon a lack of knowledge is practically absent.

Finally, we note a pleasant feature of AVS Video Editor - after installation, the program occupies only 57 MB on the hard disk, and during operation it is very economical on computer resources. The ideal "travel" video editor for working on a laptop.

Limitations of unregistered copy of the program: the video created with the program contains the AVS Media logo, which appears in the center of the frame every 30 seconds. The rest of the program is fully functional.
