Review of the MP3-player Apple iPod Classic

In the sixth incarnation, the iPod received a solid Classic prefix. I got it quite deservedly, because over the years of its existence, it has really managed to become a classic of jukebox "s. In other models, experiments were carried out with a form factor, they were at the forefront of the struggle for a new audience, a struggle that succeeded the company and made it a market leader. Apple remember how it all began, what the first iPods were like, the very ones that laid the foundation for today's prosperity.

Review of the third generation Apple iPod Nano MP3 player

Over the generations of the iPod Nano, you can safely keep track of. For the third year in a row at the beginning of September, Apple presents the next generation of the player, which at one time radically changed the balance of power in the market. Naturally, we could not pass by and not be convinced personally whether the changes that have taken place with the player are so strong, at the same time answering the question of whether Apple has lost its former grip?

2007 Apple iPod Line Announcement

Beginning in 2005, Apple moved into a clear annual cycle of updating its MP3 player product line. This was reinforced by the famous phrase by Stephen Jobs that the consumer should buy a new iPod every year. Therefore, no matter how many rumors about new announcements arise during the year, it is obvious that in reality they should be expected in early autumn. So it happened this time too.

Comparative review of Creative Zen Stone MP3-players and Apple iPod Shuffle

As soon as the first news about Creative Zen Stone appeared, it became obvious that this player would compete with the second generation iPod Shuffle on the market, which means that this comparison will sooner or later appear on our website. Judge for yourself: until recently, both Shuffle generations and their numerous Chinese clones have clearly dominated the segment of players without a display. None of the top ten manufacturers tried to seriously compete for a place in this market, despite all its attractiveness. What is it?

Audio systems (speakers) designed for iPods and other MP3 players can now be used with some phones.

Many of us have an entire collection of music in our audio player, be it a model based on hard drive or flash memory. On the way to work or during the morning jog, headphones help us out, but if it comes to, for example, listening to music at home, then an audio system will come to the rescue.

Portability, design, batteries and more

Many of these mini-audio systems are battery operated, but can also be powered by mains power. Most of them are specially designed for the iPod player and have a docking station for it. When the system is plugged in, the iPod will charge. Users who own other players will also not be left out, since the audio systems in question have a corresponding additional mini-jack.

Considering the compactness of systems designed with portability and battery power in mind, they probably should sacrifice sound quality (especially if you have to use a mini-jack rather than a dedicated dock), but some products have surprised us.

Altec Lansing's Moondance GLOW is described as a high performance music system for the iPod. This compact audio alarm system features a wireless snooze remote control and mood lighting.

Delivery set and design

Inside the box you will find the system itself, a remote control and two strange pyramid-shaped devices without tops. One of these devices is a separate snooze remote and the other is a receiver that connects to the Moondance GLOW at the back. The design of the system is quite luxurious, modernized retro style. The glossy black body is slightly tilted back, and when the Moondance is on, an orange backlight is visible. Remote controls are made in the same style.

The touch buttons are located at the top. Each button is responsible for one function. All functions can be controlled with the main remote control, and the second snooze remote control allows you to turn off the alarm, and can also be used to play or pause music. Those who like to bang the alarm clock in the morning will be very pleased, because thanks to the shape of the remote control, the palm rests perfectly on it. Thanks to the additional input, Moondance GLOW can be connected to a second audio source. It is also possible to connect an FM antenna. A USB port would be nice, but unfortunately it is missing.

Sound quality

The Moondance GLOW sound system is equipped with two 3 "speakers with a full frequency range, which are very different from those usually found in alarm clocks. For such a compact device, the sound quality is good. The sound is crisp, clear, well balanced and powerful. In this regard, it is difficult to say about Moondance GLOW Something bad, except that the bass is weak, but how can two 3 "speakers produce the same bass as a 15" subwoofer? After all, this is an alarm clock that should wake you up in the morning, not "blow up" the party!

We liked Moondance GLOW in every way. The only upsetting thing is that this audio system can be used as a docking station for iPod only.

Benefits.

  • Design;
  • sound quality;
  • touch buttons.

Disadvantages.

  • Docking station for iPod only.

Moondance GLOW is a compact iPod audio system with alarm function, wireless snooze remote control and mood lighting. This product perfectly combines cute design, usability and sound quality.

Klipsch is a high-end brand that has recently begun to enter the consumer audio market. Naturally, the company had to release its own audio system for the iPod. Let's see how she did it.

Design

Klipsch loves good design, as evidenced by the iGroove audio system, which will fit seamlessly into any apartment. However, the manufacturer slightly overdid it with minimalism: I would like to have more buttons and functions. iGroove is equipped with just an on / off button and two volume buttons.

A very small remote control is included in the package, so don't lose it. There is an additional audio input and S-video output.

Sound quality

Sound quality is what disappointed us the most! The high frequencies are clearly not enough, although the mids and lows are quite pleasant. Despite good bass, overall the sound is not enjoyable. iGroove SXT will look cute in your room, that's all. Not like a company that specializes in high-end hi-fi equipment.

Benefits.

  • Nice design.

Disadvantages.

  • Sound quality;
  • lack of high frequencies;
  • not enough functions and settings.

Klipsch iGroove SXT has an excellent design, it's a pity that the manufacturer neglected the sound quality.

The ILuv speakers really love the iPod. And to the point that it contains two docking stations: you can place your iPod and iPhone next to each other!

Design

the iMM 173 is a bulky audio system, but still stylish thanks to its beautiful design and quality black finish. The top panel contains various buttons (volume control, FM radio, etc.) and settings. You can set two alarms and choose for each one, to the melody from which source you want to wake up: radio, iPod or iPhone. Navigating through the menus is very simple, and the remote control is also easy to operate.

Best of all, you can dock and charge two iPods or one iPod and iPhone. A dedicated button allows you to switch from one device to another, the same can be done from the remote control. If the iPhone rings, you will hear the call through the speakers.

Sound quality

The sound quality is nothing special. There is no point in raising the volume as the sound will be distorted too much. In general, the harmony is quite good, but does not cause admiration. Bass is present, although it seems strange at times. Of course, the sound quality of the iLuv iMM 173 does not correspond to the Hi-Fi level, but as a musical alarm clock, this audio system works well.

Benefits.

  • Two docking stations;
  • ease of use;
  • good sound quality.

Disadvantages.

  • Bulky;
  • better not to turn up the volume.

the iLuv iMM 173 is an Apple fan's dream, as it works with both iPhone and iPod.

Friends, we finally have a brand new Apple HomePod speakers, we have not even unpacked them yet, they are standing and waiting in the wings. But you can't talk about them without mentioning another musical creation by Apple. I am referring to an iPod Hi-Fi. Interesting material about this rare device came out on the "apple" site 9to5mac, I offer you a translation of the article in Russian.

Apple's unusual presentation

Today we are going to show you something interesting. Something of medium size. We all want this kind of thing, so we hope our customers think the same way.

With these words, Steve Jobs presented the first Mac mini with an Intel processor, iPod cases for $ 99 and iPod Hi-Fi for $ 349. Then Apple swung into a market dominated by Bose speakers and other manufacturers' products with iPod docking stations.

Jobs' talk was that the existing home iPod speakers were not of sufficient quality. Its idea is that if you listened to a speaker adapted for the iPod, you would get up and throw out your expensive home speakers. But iPod Hi-Fi, according to Jobs, will replace such a home system.

The speech, it must be admitted, was historic. After just 4 months, Jobs and his team “reinvented” the smartphone, they introduced the iPhone, and the iPod Hi-Fi left the market.

This is how journalist Jeremy Horwitz, who was there in 2006, described that presentation.

I remember this announcement well for two reasons. First, there, for the first time, Apple announced that it had "reinvented home audio." Now she introduces HomePod with the same words.

Second, it was the first event in my memory where the audience disagreed with Jobs's speech. The audience laughed when they presented leather cases for iPod and iPod nano for $ 99. Neither the speaker nor the covers impressed the specialists. I may not remember everything, but since then Apple has not held a single event dedicated exclusively to accessories.

After all, HomePod was announced at the end of WWDC in the summer of 2017. The column was not shown in a separate presentation prior to launch. And it appeared on sale with a delay of a couple of months.

Cold attitude

People wondered why such a $ 350 device was needed? Moreover, many did not have Hi-Fi equipment at all, people did not understand what it was about. Apple created problems for itself when it introduced the "audiophile speaker", but in essence it was just good home acoustics. Moreover, she had enough competitors: Bose SoundDock for $ 300, Klipsch iGroove for $ 280, ZVOX mini for $ 300 and others.

Now the situation is repeating itself, only in competitors are the Amazon Echo, Google Home, Sonos and other Bluetooth speakers.

the iPod Hi-Fi was praised for its excellent mids and powerful bass, clear sound even at maximum volume, and simple Apple remote control. A column with carrying handles and a battery compartment, it was also charged from a regular network. She also charged the iPod while it was docked.

But the column was scolded. She was inferior to competitors in dynamic range, especially in high frequencies. The column is devoid of video outputs, this was also recorded as a minus. Criticized for being overweight, controversial design with attached iPod dock.

Before and now

the iPod Hi-Fi has become a collectible. It is a rare thing with a 30-pin connector that is not used in modern Apple technology, but a phone or iPod can be connected via the audio input. So, theoretically, the device can be used to this day.

HomePod and iPod Hi-Fi are essentially the same class, both speakers are built for quality music at home. But in more than 10 years, the way sound is transmitted has changed. Instead of an iPod or even an iPhone, one service is enough - Apple Music, music lives in the clouds, and not in the memory of phones and players.

If the iPod Hi-Fi appeared at a bad time, people did not understand and did not recognize it, then the Apple HomePod has a much better chance of success.

The iPod Hi-Fi began selling at the end of the era of iPod docking stations, and the HomePod appeared in the prime of the era of smart home speakers.

P.S. On Avito, iPod Hi-Fi can be bought for 14-15 thousand rubles, Apple HomePod is sold there for 40,000 rubles. Official sales of the new Apple speaker in Russia have still started.

P.S. HomePod reviewer is already preparing!

Traditional acoustic docking stations for iPod / iPhone are gradually losing their popularity among Apple device owners, all due to the rapid expansion of the range of Bluetooth speakers. But if you still want to enjoy streaming music and at the same time charge your device, this is the device you will need.

In fact, you will be surprised when you find out that you can buy quite good acoustics for up to 13,000 rubles, including multifunctional devices from recognized brands that have stood the test of time and are still popular.
