20 free channels in Cheboksary
From January 1, 2019 20 free TV channels available for viewing throughout Russia. In Chuvashia, the construction and operation of the digital terrestrial television network is carried out by the RTRS branch "RTPC Chuvash Republic". In total, 42 digital broadcasting facilities were built and put into operation: almost the entire territory of Chuvashia is covered with a digital signal.
Today, residents of the republic can watch digital terrestrial television for free. Digital terrestrial television includes 2 multiplexes (packages of TV channels). The signal of the first multiplex can be received in almost all settlements of Chuvashia. Broadcasting of the second multiplex was launched in Cheboksary and Novocheboksarsk, Alatyrsky, Batyrevsky, Poretsky, Shemurshinsky districts. Minister of Digital Development, Information Policy and Mass Communications of the Chuvash Republic Mikhail Anisimov informed that the implementation of the federal target program "Development of TV and radio broadcasting in the Russian Federation for 2009-2018" is currently being completed, the main goal of which is the transfer of TV and radio broadcasting networks in Russia to digital technologies.
As a result of the implementation of this program, in all settlements of Russia it will be possible to receive 20 mandatory public TV channels without subscription fee. In total, within the framework of the program, 42 digital broadcasting facilities were built and put into operation in the republic. Analog TV broadcasting is planned to be discontinued from January 1, 2019. TV viewers not prepared for the reception digital signal, after turning off analog broadcasting, they will see a black screen instead of federal TV channels. At the same time, Mikhail Anisimov drew attention to the fact that in 68 settlements there is no signal from the central terrestrial television. Over 8,000 people living in more than 5,000 households cannot watch CETV free of charge, since it is impossible to receive an over-the-air signal in these settlements technologically.
To solve the problem of the Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications of Russia, a draft agreement is being developed with satellite TV operators in order to provide for residents of such settlements benefits for the purchase necessary equipment and provide one of the digital broadcast packages free of charge. At the moment, 1477 households (28%) are connected to the satellite television network. In the near future, local governments will conduct a survey of local residents to find out the demand for satellite broadcasting as alternative solution problems of accessibility of digital television.
The head of Chuvashia emphasized that the task of the authorities is to ensure the constitutional right of the inhabitants of the republic to equal access to information, to quality services and living conditions.
