The image is not displayed on the projector via hdmi. Methods for connecting a video projector to a laptop

". I very often come across a question from the title. It would seem that the question is the simplest, but not all people communicate with computers for a long time, and for them it can really become a problem. Often, this concerns teachers in schools who were given a laptop or stationary PC, installed a projector in the classroom, but they did not teach how to use it - well, training is not included in the budget, and that's it (this does not happen everywhere and not always, of course, but there are a lot of facts ).

This article will also be useful for those who do not know how to connect a monitor or TV to a computer or laptop, as a primary or secondary output device, because connecting a projector, monitor and TV is similar.

So. Let's consider several possible options.

Connect the projector to a stationary PC as the primary and only display device.

The easiest option. Does not require additional hardware settings. The only possible problem is the screen resolution set on the PC is higher than the projector can chew. In this case, it will display an inscription like: "signal not supported", or something like that, depending on the projector. In such a situation, before connecting the projector, you will have to connect a monitor to the computer with the highest possible resolution and set the resolution corresponding to the native resolution in the screen properties, after which you can connect the projector (how to set the resolution is described below). Why exactly "native"? After all, projectors support reception of both lower and higher resolutions than "native"! In the case when the signal and the projector have different resolutions, the projector has to recalculate the picture, stretching or shrinking the original points of the image, which often leads to insignificant, but still distortion, which is especially noticeable in texts - letters become uneven, and small text is generally difficult disassemble.

And so, everything is simple - we connect the VGA or HDMI cable (depending on the video card and projector) to the computer and the projector, and turn it on. If the video card has only a DVI output, but the projector does not have such an input, you can use an adapter to HDMI or VGA. The first option is preferable (of course, provided there is an HDMI input on the projector), because DVI is actually the same HDMI, only with a larger connector, and the inability to transmit sound over the same cable, so there will be no additional digital-to-analog conversions and possible interference over long distances. If the projector does not automatically find the signal, press the button with the corresponding name (HDMI, VGA, DVI) or the source search / select button (often called Source or Input) on the remote control or the case.

Connecting the projector to a PC as an additional monitor.
In this case, you need a computer with a video card that has a second video output.
Accordingly, to work in a dual-monitor system, the following steps must be taken:
Windows XP - connect the monitor to the main output and turn on the PC. After loading Windows, right-click on the desktop and select "Properties".

We connect the projector to the second output and see that a second monitor has appeared in our system (if this does not happen, we restart the PC, do not turn off the projector). We click on it (the second monitor) with the left mouse button and at the bottom of the window put a checkmark “Extend the desktop to this monitor”. Set the native resolution for the projector and click "Apply".

Windows 7/8 - right-click on the desktop and select "Screen Resolution"

The simplest version is ready. There are still options when we make the projector the main "monitor" or "clone" the image on the monitor and the projector (as in the picture above), but there is a nuance. If you are interested, write in the comments, the settings are individual and may depend on your video card.

For those who demonstrate PowerPoint presentations on a projector, I will open a small trick, many do not even know about it (in fact, I know a lot of people who often give presentations and do not know about it). In PowerPoint 2003, click on the "Slide Show" item in the top menu and select "Presentation Settings".

Here on the right is the item "Multiple monitors", where we select the connected projector.

After you complete the steps described, your presentation (by pressing the F5 key) will be displayed on the projector, and on the main monitor, you can solve any parallel tasks.

In addition, if in the specified location of the settings you check the box "Show speaker view"

- during the presentation, which will be displayed on the projector, on the monitor we will see auxiliary elements, for example: notes for the current slide and the time elapsed since the beginning of the presentation (you have to control yourself). Here, on the left, you can see which slide will be the next, and on the right, you can turn off the image for a while or end the slide show.

In PowerPoint 2010, enabling these features is similar, except that the Presentation Settings button is not in the drop-down menu, but just below the Slide Show.

For the information of presentations, I have an article on my blog on how to prepare for a presentation, create it in PowerPoint and deliver it. It is located on.

Well, now we come to connecting the projector to a laptop.
In principle, a laptop is the same PC, only a mobile one, so you can connect a projector to it by following the steps indicated in the previous paragraph, with the only exception that you do not need to connect a monitor, because it is already there - this is the laptop screen. Otherwise, everything is the same. But there may be nuances, plus there is an easier way to display an image from a laptop on a projector.

I'm sure all laptop owners / users paid attention to the additional labels on the function keys (F1… F12). On one of them, each manufacturer has a CRT / LCD type inscription or an icon similar to a monitor and a laptop. And at the bottom of the keyboard there is a Fn key, corresponding in color to this inscription / icon. So, holding down the Fn key and pressing the corresponding function key, we alternately translate the display of the picture into one of three modes:
- only external monitor (projector) - laptop screen is black, the image is displayed on the projector;
- cloning - the same image on the laptop screen and the projector. If the laptop screen and the projector have a different "native" resolution, one of them will have a slightly blurry picture. Configurable in screen properties;
- only internal monitor - the image is displayed on the laptop screen, the projector shows something like "No signal".

Thus, if we just need to display an image on a projector or clone what is happening on a laptop screen, we can press this key combination. To expand the desktop, you must follow the procedure described in the paragraph Connecting the projector to a PC as an additional monitor.

Possible keyboard shortcuts for laptops from different manufacturers:
Acer or Aspire Fn + F5
Asus eee mini Fn + F8
Dell Fn + F8
Gateway Fn + F3
HP or Compaq Fn + F4
HP mini Fn + F2
Lenovo (IBM) Fn + F7
Samsung Fn + F4
Sony Vaio Fn + F7
Toshiba Fn + F5

There is another option for connecting the projector to a laptop (well, to a PC in principle) - via WiFi. But this option works with a very limited list of projectors. What's this list? I will answer in the comments if interested. I can only say that when working with Windows 7, you most likely don't even need to install any drivers and utilities, you just need to "connect to a projector."

That's basically all. Nothing complicated if you know where to look. Now you know how to connect a projector, monitor, TV to a laptop or computer. If you need to connect a projector to a Mac, then you are. If you want to properly set up your projector, see one of the following articles:

With a second screen, you can easily view multiple open applications at the same time. You can also connect a projector so that the screen is visible to everyone in the room.

Most monitors and projectors can be connected using a DVI, VGA or HDMI cable. (Some devices can even be connected wirelessly). Your computer can contain one or more of these ports.

Connecting a second monitor or projector to your computer allows you to:

  • interact with the four corners of any of the screens using the mouse or the edges of the touchscreen to open the launch screen, function bar, or recently used applications;
  • viewing multiple open windows on each screen with the ability to launch applications in each window;
  • customizing screens, placing the taskbar on one or all displays to transfer applications between screens.

Connecting a second monitor to a computer

Most monitors and projectors for connecting a device using a cable have an appropriate port (DVI, VGA or HDMI). If your computer has only one DVI port and is already in use, you can use a custom monitor cable provided by some equipment manufacturers to split the signal from one DVI port to two monitors.

Notes:

  • In the case of a desktop computer, a video card with two DVI, VGA or HDMI ports is required.
  • If your monitor or projector comes with a cable that is not suitable for the ports on your computer, you can use an adapter to convert one port type to another.

To connect an additional monitor to your computer

  1. Find a free video port on your computer.
  2. Connect the appropriate cable from the second monitor to this port.

The Windows operating system must automatically detect and install the monitor.

Connecting the projector to a computer

For wired connections, plug the projector cable into a VGA, DVI, or HDMI port. In most cases, Windows will automatically detect and install the projector.

If Windows detects the Wi-Fi projector, you can connect to it.

To communicate with the projector Wi-Fi

  1. Move your finger quickly from the right edge to the center of the screen, then press the panel Devices... (If you are using a mouse, select the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, and then select the Devices pane.)
  2. Tap Another screen, and then press the key Add Wi-Fi screen.
  3. Select the projector from the list of found devices and follow the instructions on the screen.

Customize the content of the monitors

After connecting a second monitor or connecting a projector, you can select the appropriate display options.

  1. Move your finger quickly from the right edge to the center of the screen, and then press the Devices bar. (If you are using a mouse, select the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, and then select the Devices pane.)
  2. Click the Custom Screen button and select one of the following options:
    • Computer screen only... The entire contents of the computer screen appears.
    • Duplicate... The same content will be displayed on both screens.
    • Expand... The whole image will be expanded over two screens and you can drag and move items between them.
    • Second screen only... All images will be displayed on the connected sub screen. The first screen will be blank.

Using the taskbar on all screens

With the right setup for a second monitor or projector, you might find it nice to have multiple taskbars to make it easier to switch between applications and files on your desktop.

The following describes how to display taskbars on all screens and change how buttons appear on them.

  1. Quickly slide your finger inward from the right edge of the screen, click the Search button (if you're using a mouse, select the upper-right corner of the screen, then click the Search button), and then in the search box, type Taskbar and navigation.
  2. Click the button Taskbar and navigation.
  3. In section Multiple screens check the box Show taskbar on all screens and select the appropriate options to configure Show taskbar buttons and Buttons on other taskbars.
  4. Click the OK button.

Transferring apps to screens

Apps can be moved between screens and within the same screen.

To move an application from the Windows online store within the screen, press the Win + ← key or the Win + → key.

To move an application from the Windows online store to another monitor, press the Win + Shift + ← key or the Win + Shift + → key.

To move the desktop application located on the left side of the screen to the center and right of the screen, and then to the second monitor, press the Win + → key and the Win + Shift + ← key twice.

Controlling cursor behavior when one monitor is touch

If you are connected to your computer with or without a touchscreen, you may need to change the cursor settings.

  1. Quickly slide your finger inward from the right edge of the screen, click the Search button (or, if you're using a mouse, select the upper-right corner of the screen, and then click the Search button), type , and then press the key or select Tablet PC parameters.
  2. Click the Settings button.
  3. If prompted for a choice, press the Touch Input button and follow the instructions on the screen.

Connecting a projector is not the most difficult task, but if you have never done this, then some of the setup points may seem confusing. But if you figure out how to connect a projector to a laptop using one of the available methods, there will be no problems.

Equipment connection

Before you can adjust the display settings, you need to connect the equipment. Usually a VGA or HDMI cable is used for the connection. If your laptop has the same connector, then just plug in the cable and turn on the device.

An HDMI connection is preferred. Therefore, if you are just going to buy a projector, pay attention to devices that support HDMI - an interface that allows you to transfer high-definition pictures.

If the connectors on the projector and laptop do not match, then the connection will have to be made through an adapter. The use of an adapter can uncritically reduce the image quality, but this usually cannot be noticed with the naked eye.

Switch off devices must be connected with a cable. After connecting, the projector turns on first, then the laptop. This arrangement avoids the situation where the laptop cannot see the projection equipment.

Image adjustment

If the connection is correct, then when turned on, the laptop will overtake the projector as an external screen and immediately display the image on the wall. The picture can be distorted, this is especially noticeable on the letters that float. This problem usually occurs when the screen resolution of the laptop and the projector does not match.

See what resolution your projection equipment supports. Usually it is 800 × 600 or 1024 × 768, but expensive models can have 1920 × 1080. In the resolution settings on the laptop, you must set the same value.

On Windows 10, you will not find the "Screen Resolution" section in the desktop context menu. Here, the resolution is configured through the screen options.

When the connection is established and you see a normal image on the wall without distortion, you can proceed to select the display mode.

Display modes

If your laptop is running Windows 7, open the Start menu and write in the search box "Connect to a projector". A link to the built-in application will appear, open it to configure the display. Instead of navigating through Start, you can use the Win + P keyboard shortcut. This combination works on all versions of Windows except XP, so remember it.

There are four display modes available:

  • Only a computer - a picture on a laptop screen, the projector does not broadcast anything.
  • Duplicate - the image from the laptop display is completely copied onto the wall through the projector. It is this mode that is most often used for presentations.
  • Extend - The desktop is divided into two halves. The right side of the desktop is displayed through the projector. The left one remains on the laptop screen. By moving the program windows to the right side, you decide what the audience will see.
  • Projector only - the laptop screen is inactive, the image goes only to the projection equipment.

On Windows 10, the item names are different, but they are the same in meaning: for example, instead of "Duplicate", the "ten" will have the item "Duplicate".

On laptops, function keys can be used instead of the projection menu. The Fn button in combination with one of the F1-F12 keys also changes the display mode. The order of changes is preserved: one press - the image will be duplicated, the next press - the picture will expand to the desktop and the projector, dividing the screen completely, etc.

Different laptop models use different combinations. For example, to enable repeating or extended mode on an ASUS laptop, press Fn + F8. To understand which key from the F1-F12 series is right for you, pay attention to the icons. The required button will contain an image of two monitors.

You can also select the display mode through the "Screen resolution" section of the context menu. There is a field "Multiple screens", which presents already iconic options: duplicate, expand, only screen 1 and only screen 2.

Basically, the choice of active display is the same on all versions of Windows, but if you connected the projector to an XP laptop and it sees the connected equipment, then the order will be slightly different.

After finishing your presentation, be sure to set the settings that were before connecting the projector, otherwise the image on the laptop will not be the same as you are used to.

Working in PowerPoint

If you are going to show slides through PowerPoint, then you may need one more small adjustment. It is about choosing a display to display. The audience sees the slides through a projector, but something else is displayed on the monitor screen: for example, the text of the report.

Before selecting a screen, you need to complete the projector connection and setup. When the equipment is ready for use, go to PowerPoint and go to the Slide Show tab and select the projection equipment in the Show presentation on field.

Another handy feature is the presenter mode. When activated, notes and additional buttons will appear on the projected image to help control the presentation.

How to connect a projector to a laptop

The laptop monitor is quite small, so there are often problems with demonstrating presentations to the general public. For this, there is a projector that can increase the overall diagonal of the monitor.

Unplug your laptop and projector. Take a VGA cable and run it from the projector to your laptop. Plug it in. On most laptops, the VGA cable connector is blue. Turn on the projector first and then the laptop.

Now you need to adjust the image as it should appear automatically when you turn on the laptop. But in some cases, people have to turn it on on their own. Wait until the operating system is fully loaded and press the "Fn" key combination + the button for switching between screens. It is located differently on every computer, but it always has two monitors. For example, on notebooks from Acer this image is placed on the "F6" button, on notebooks from Dell - "F1".

Holding down the "Fn" key + the corresponding button, you can alternately translate the image of the picture into one of three possible modes. First, only the projector will turn on, and the laptop screen will remain black, i.e. the image will be displayed only on the projector. When pressed again, the image will appear on the laptop screen and remain on the projector. If the image is blurry on one of the devices, adjust it in the display properties. The third press of the key combination will turn off the image on the projector, and it will remain only on the laptop screen.

If you are unable to display the image on the projector, most likely the function buttons in the laptop are disabled. In some cases, the projector may not match the laptop video adapter. If your video adapter model is out of date, please purchase a newer one. All modern models are endowed with a connection to the DVI connector. It is more versatile and has high picture quality. But note that you will only be able to connect a projector to this jack if it has an appropriate output.

There is another way to connect a laptop to a projector. The Windows 7 operating system includes the Connect to a Projector program. When you open this program, you will see the icons. Clicking the “Turn off projector” icon will turn off the projector. If you want to duplicate the image from the laptop to the projector, click the Duplicate icon. The same image will be displayed on both monitors.

If you click the Extend icon, the right side of the desktop will be displayed on the projector and the left side on the laptop screen. By moving the mouse cursor, you can move the image. Another icon is for turning off the laptop screen so that the image remains on the projector. This method greatly simplifies the work if you have Windows 7 installed on your laptop.

For Windows 8, there is also a lightweight connection option. Go to "Start", then to "Control Panel" - "Appearance and Personalization" - "Screen" - "Screen Resolution". You will see the option to select a mobile PC (laptop) display or connect an external monitor. By choosing the second value, the image will be displayed on the projector.

Now let's consider the possibility of connecting a projector via Windows XP. On an empty space on the desktop, right-click. In the context menu that opens, select "Properties" and "Display". In the "Options" tab, select the laptop screen or external monitor connection.

Now you know that connecting the projector to your laptop is easy. Before connecting, make sure that the laptop and the projector are identical and have the required connectors for connection.

How to connect a projector to a laptop or computer and set it up

Connecting a projector to a laptop is carried out by simple manipulations, but, unfortunately, difficulties are often encountered along the way. When the devices refuse to pair automatically, this means that the standard system settings are lost, or these devices simply "do not understand" each other. How do I connect the projector to my laptop in this case? The connection is configured manually: for this, the operating system provides certain sets of keys. In the absence of such, parameter setting is carried out by forced configuration changes.

Wired connection

A multimedia projector, regardless of model, connects to a computer or laptop via a VGA or HDMI cable. For high quality content, HDMI will be preferred.

The connection algorithm is elementary:

  • unplug both devices before turning on the projector;
  • insert the plug into the corresponding socket;
  • turn on the projector, then the computer.

In cases where the required connector is not available, a special adapter can be used. This can happen when the video card has only a DVI connector, and the projector has VGA or HDMI. The use of an adapter insignificantly reduces the quality of content. The projector is turned on first, otherwise the computer cannot see it.

Special adapter

Wireless connection

You can also synchronize devices via the Wi-Fi protocol, today this method is gaining popularity. To activate, you need to install drivers, but in the case of Windows 7, usually, regular ones are enough.

If the disc is lost, the application can be downloaded on the Internet from the projector brand website.

Before connecting the projector to a laptop, you need to install the Wi-Fi antennas in the USB connectors of the projector and PC, outwardly they resemble a small USB flash drive. The green indicator light informs that the connection was successful.

It should be noted that not all projectors that support Wi-Fi will project video. Some models can be connected only to control equipment, this nuance needs to be clarified when purchasing. A wired connection is safer and more practical: the HDMI plug, for example, is designed to transmit excellent quality video without interference.

We display content in the desired mode

Theoretically, after connecting the cable to the appropriate connector, the picture should be displayed automatically. In some cases, when the settings are incorrect, the user must himself make the necessary changes to display the content. It is known that each version of the operating system has its own characteristics, therefore there is no single order of actions.

Then, the user has access to four display modes of the connected projector.

  1. Duplicate (repeat) - when a video from a computer or laptop is duplicated to an external screen.
  2. Computer only - the content is played on the laptop display, and the external screen is not involved at this time.
  3. Expansion - the desktop is divided into two parts, the left side is displayed on the PC monitor, and the right side through the projector.
  4. Projector only - information will only be projected on the large screen.

Useful tricks for Power Point

Office program Power Point is "sharpened" for presentations, it is often used because it is simple and convenient. It has its own peculiarities of work, for example, you can display slides on a large screen, and the text of a report or lecture on a PC display.

The settings do not take much time: after synchronizing the projector with the PC, go into the program and look for "Slide Show" - "Show Presentation" on the top panel. We put a tick in front of "Projection equipment". Here you can find the "Presenter Mode", if you activate it, various auxiliary tools for conducting lectures will be displayed on the screen - additional buttons or notes.

Manual image debugging

Sometimes pictures or letters are blurred or "float" - this happens when the wrong monitor resolution settings are set on the PC. To maximize the quality, set the resolution on your computer to match that of the projector. This does not change the projector settings.

How to change settings on a computer / laptop (for Windows 7 / Vista platforms):

  • to enter the computer settings, you need to open the menu with the right mouse button (click on the desktop);
  • select the item "Screen resolution" and set the correct value (like a projector);
  • save the settings by clicking the "OK" button.

Windows 10 settings are slightly different, here the item "Resolution" is located in the section of the display settings. Click "Start" and find the "System" tab on the right side of the window, scroll to the bottom of the page and open "Advanced display settings". Then everything is simple: select the desired value and save the settings.

This completes the task of how to connect the projector to the computer. After connecting, the user has to choose a convenient output mode for a presentation or home video viewing.

Connecting the projector to a computer or laptop

A projector is an irreplaceable device when it comes to making various presentations. It can help a large audience to demonstrate images and slides saved on a computer. But before starting the presentation, you need to connect the projector to a laptop or computer and set up the equipment correctly.

Connecting devices

Typically, the connection between the projector and computer is made using a VGA or HDMI cable. Sometimes, however, you have to use adapters - for example, you connected a video card to a computer, and it has only a DVI-out.

Important! Run the cable between the computer and the projector first. Only then can both devices be connected to the network.

Image output

The easiest way is to use projection equipment as your primary monitor.
Then you do not need to make any additional settings, provided that the resolution is correct.

If the signal and the projector have different resolutions, the image will be distorted. This is especially noticeable in the text: the letters become uneven and illegible.

If you encounter such a problem, you will have to connect the main monitor and adjust the display settings in the display properties.

Additional monitor

So, you simultaneously connected a monitor and projection equipment to the video card. Now you need to adjust the order of the image output. For this:

Laptop use

When giving presentations, users usually use a laptop as it is much easier to bring and install in any room. Connecting the projector to a laptop is as easy as connecting to a computer, however there are some setup considerations.

Function keys F1… .F12 on a laptop always have additional graphical symbols that are difficult to find on a keyboard for a stationary computer. On one of the keys you can see an image of a monitor and a laptop.

Pressing such a function key (for example, F8 in ASUS notebooks) in combination with the Fn button allows you to quickly switch between image display modes:

  • External monitor - the picture is displayed on the projector, the laptop screen is off.
  • Cloning is one and the same picture through a projector and on a laptop screen. If the resolution is different, then one image will be of the worst quality. You can fix this in the screen properties.
  • Internal monitor - the broadcast goes only to the laptop screen.

Alternatively, the projector can be connected to a laptop via Wi-Fi. However, there are not so many models that support such technologies, and the usual connection using an HDMI or VGA cable will be much more practical.

By the way, it will be convenient if you connect a wireless mouse - with its help it is much easier to control the presentation.

Features of using Power Point

The vast majority of presentations are made and reproduced in public using a special Power Point program that is included in the standard Microsoft Office suite of applications.

Due to duty or educational necessity, everyone has encountered this program, but only a few are able to use it correctly. If you are using Power Point 2003, expand the Slide Show menu in the top bar and select Presentation Setup.
On the right you can see the field "Multiple monitors", where in a special line you can specify the equipment on which the image will be displayed. Indicate the projector that you have connected to your computer or laptop.
Your presentation will now be output through the projector; on the main monitor, you can solve other tasks at this time - for example, open a document with your speech and read it out.

Another handy feature is to check the box "Show speaker presentation". In this case, right during the presentation, auxiliary elements will appear on the main monitor: slide notes, time, previous and next slide.

In addition, two function buttons will be placed on the right, with which you can end the display or temporarily disable the image. In later versions of the program, all of the above features are preserved; the only difference is that the “Show Settings” item is not in the drop-down menu, but on the panel that appears when you click on the “Slide Show” tab.

Conclusion

You have learned how to connect a projector to a computer or laptop, and then correctly set up the equipment by choosing one of the possible display modes. In addition, you are now aware of some of the secrets of Power Point, thanks to which your presentation will become clearer and more consistent.

However, during the connection and software setup phase, the projector does not end. It is also important to install this equipment correctly by calculating the projection distance and ratio in such a way that the image does not lose sharpness and does not blur.

To solve this problem, you can use a special calculator, but usually the familiar practical test method is enough for everyone, in which the projector is installed and adjusted until the picture quality seems to be the best.

How to connect a projector to a computer and laptop - simple solutions for the perfect effect

Working with a video projector opens up wide opportunities for high-quality and efficient presentations, business meetings, and seminars. Despite the seeming simplicity of connecting to a computer, this task sometimes causes serious difficulties. We will try to consider the main subtleties of high-quality settings without unnecessary waste of time and risks for a successful event.

Find out how to connect a projector to your computer or laptop

Let's consider simple tips and principles of connection. As a rule, the connection does not imply any particular difficulties - it is enough just to take into account some of the nuances, which we will discuss in more detail.

Why and how to connect a projector to a laptop

At some point, every computer or laptop owner begins to realize the rather miniature dimensions of his screen. If the standard computer also supports the ability to connect other monitors, then in the case of a laptop, such an opportunity cannot be expected. To solve this problem, you should take care of connecting a video projector, which allows you to increase the display diagonal.

If you have never connected a projector, then some of the setup points may seem confusing

How to connect a projector to a laptop Windows 7 and XP - let's get to practice

First of all, power off both devices, including the laptop and the video projector. Turn them off by unplugging the power cables from the sockets. We extend the VGA cable from the projector to our laptop. Next, you have to connect this cable. After that, the video projector is turned on first, connected to the electrical network, and then the laptop is connected.

After that, the whole simple connection procedure has been successfully completed. We only need to adjust the image if necessary.

Usually the image appears automatically. However, in rare cases, the problem of the lack of automatic inclusion is possible. In this case, we are waiting for the operating system to be fully loaded, then use the Fn + "key between screens" key combination. Different laptop models may have different keyboard shortcuts.

Press Fn and the screen switch key. It has a different location on different models.

In fact, connecting the projector to a computer is almost the same as connecting a second monitor. Although it is worth admitting that there are some differences, so characteristic nuances should be noted.

If the functionality of a particular video projector supports the ability to process a digital signal, with the output of a high-quality image at the output, a more rational solution would be to work with a digital data transmission channel. If there are only analog ports on the projector, then a more logical option is to switch the monitor to the digital port of the video card. We carry out the appropriate actions with our monitor.

This is how the projector works

If your video card has VGA and DVI ports, and both devices have only VGA ports, you should get an additional DVI-VGA cable. Its cost is low, you can easily find it on the Internet or various digital stores. Of course, this option will lead to a decrease in the quality of the picture. However, it will be possible to connect both devices at the same time. Next, we connect the projector to a free video card slot. We turn on the projector. After turning on the personal computer, we are waiting for the operating system to load.

We can only wish you successful presentations and events. And, of course, do not forget about the valuable advice - try to connect the video projector in advance in order to have enough time before the event itself, without facing difficulties and problems at the most inopportune moment.

Working with a video projector opens up wide opportunities for high-quality and efficient presentations, business meetings, and seminars.

How to connect a projector to a computer

We can only wish you successful presentations and events. And, of course, do not forget about the valuable advice - try to connect the video projector in advance in order to have enough time before the event itself, without facing difficulties and problems at the most inopportune moment.

To use the projector, it must be installed and configured. If you unpack the device and immediately point its lens at a white sheet, the image quality will be poor. You need to calculate the distance, hang up the screen, choose the size of the picture, calibrate the colors, set the brightness and contrast. You can call a wizard who will do all this for a decent fee. But figuring out how to set up a projector is easy enough.

You can set up the projector yourself

Before installing the product, be sure to read the documents that came with it. Each model of projection equipment has its own nuances. If you did not receive it out of the box and you do not have instructions, you can find it on the manufacturer's official website.

Do not put high-resolution devices in a small room. The product has characteristics that must be considered before purchasing. Setting up a projector starts with choosing a location for it. It is better to look at the entire set of projection equipment in advance and measure the room in which you are going to put it. To calculate everything. Use the information on the manufacturer's website. Or check the documentation for the device. It lists the optimal distance to the wall and the recommended screen sizes.

The modern projector is not filmoscopes for filmstrips that could be viewed on a “white sheet”. Although nothing prevents you from using the old proven method. But to get a high-quality picture and fully experience the effect of presence, you need a special screen. Its size largely determines how to install and how to configure projection equipment.

The manufacturer's website should have a calculator. There you need to specify the characteristics of the screen and the model of the device. And get the recommended projector-to-wall distance. These are approximate values \u200b\u200b- it is not necessary to verify the length down to a millimeter.

If you have a standard room with a sofa and a couple of armchairs (and not a theater hall with several rows of chairs), then the screen should be hung at a height of 61-92 cm from the floor

If the projection ratio is 3: 1 (three to one) and the screen size is 200 centimeters, then the distance between the product and the wall should be 3 × 200 (projection ratio multiplied by size). This is the recommended value. Focus more on your perception. If you are not satisfied with the picture, move the projector.

The vertical offset determines the height at which the projection equipment should be. This parameter is specified as a percentage. Someone puts the playback device on the floor, someone on the bedside table, someone hangs it from the ceiling. If the vertical offset is plus sign (eg + 90%), the picture will be taller than the device. If with a minus sign (-91%) - lower. On some models, the lens can be rotated.

Correct installation of the screen is also an important point. Of course, this largely depends on the decor in the room. Projection equipment should be positioned so that you can watch movies comfortably. But you still need to follow some recommendations.

  • Do not broadcast the screen onto a wall that is exposed to direct light. Even a good and properly configured projector will not perform well if the room is very bright.
  • There should be no foreign objects between the lens of the device and the wall. If you choose to place the product behind the audience, keep in mind that their heads may obscure part of the frame.
  • The closer the lens is to the wall, the brighter the image. But this decreases clarity. Turn on your projection equipment to see what the final picture will look like. Without such a check, it is impossible to select the resolution, projector contrast and other parameters.
  • Find a position so that the projection is directly on the screen. If necessary, place the device higher or lower. Sit where you will be watching the video. Check if everything is clearly visible, if shadows from objects or glare are not interfering.
  • If you are hanging the device from the ceiling, use the special mount.
  • Decide in advance where the wires will be located and whether they will be long enough.

Connection

To the computer

The projector can be connected to a computer as a second monitor or instead of it. This will play the video from the PC on the big screen. And you will be able to adjust the parameters with your mouse and keyboard.

Projection equipment and displays usually use the same video adapter port - VGA. And to connect them at the same time, you need a VGA-DVI cable. Leave the main video output for the monitor. And connect the projector to the DVI slot via an adapter. If the video card has multiple VGA ports, no additional wires are needed. Use the ones that come with the device (included in the box with it). Some projection equipment models work via HDMI and even USB. If these slots are not present, you will also need an adapter.

Once connected, the computer should detect the presence of the projector. If it came with a driver, install it. Or in the settings of the projection equipment, find the "Signal Source" and indicate the port to which the cable goes.

To interact with two video devices:

  • Start - Control Panel.
  • Screen icon. He's in the "Design" section.
  • Item "Screen resolution" or "Screen settings". They are on the left.

Screen resolution

  • If the PC “sees” the projection equipment, then two desktops will be available in the menu.
  • Also there will appear a drop-down list "Multiple screens".
  • You can choose one main display. And then switch.
  • Or the line "Duplicate" so that everything is the same on the monitor and projection.
  • Or the "Expand screens" option. Then one device will be a continuation of the other. If you drag an object outside the "boundaries" of the monitor, it will appear in projection.

It's easy to figure out how to turn the image on a projector on a computer:

  1. Open display options. This is where you worked with dual displays.
  2. Highlight the device desktop.
  3. Pay attention to the item "Orientation". There you can select the options "Landscape", "Portrait" and "Inverted".

Setting screen orientation in Windows 7

When connecting to a PC, the projector may display a signal not recognized error. This does not mean that the equipment is incompatible. The device simply does not support the resolution that is set on the computer. Check the product instructions for the size of the picture that suits it. The same information is available on the manufacturer's official website. Set the desired resolution in the display parameters.

If you are using the unit instead of the main monitor, you will have to do the final projector setup on the large screen. This is not very convenient. Especially when the computer is far away and you cannot see the projection.

The product can support Wi-Fi. But to work on such a network, you need to create a DLNA (multimedia) server. Another loophole is to connect the projector to the PC and the monitor to the projector. And you will have two screens.

To the player or set-top box

The image shows the connection of the projector to the set-top box and other equipment

The projection equipment is paired with DVD players or TV boxes if they have the correct ports. But then the choice of parameters depends on the menu of all the products used. And it can vary greatly depending on the model.

The projector connects to the player like a normal monitor. After connecting, go to the settings and set the appropriate resolution. It is indicated in the specifications of the projection equipment. Be sure to read the instructions for these devices. If it is inconvenient to "climb" the parameters on a large screen in search of the desired item, connect the set-top box to the monitor, reconfigure it, and then connect it to the projector.

Cameras, camcorders, Blue-Ray and game consoles can be used too. Check the instructions for what devices the projection equipment supports. After connecting, start a search for new gadgets on it or specify a port in the "Signal sources" menu.

To smartphone or tablet

Better to use Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Because for a wired connection, you will need as many as two adapters, which must be purchased separately. The first is from your phone's port to HDMI. The second is from HDMI to VGA.

There is a wireless connection between the projector and the phone using Wi-Fi

But there might be a problem. The HDMI cable will occupy the slot of the smartphone, into which the "charger" is inserted. And it takes a lot of power to play video on a projector. If your phone's battery runs out quickly, look for a cable with a splitter that has HDMI and charger ports.

You will get a rather complex chain of cables. Search the projector for new hardware. And you can enjoy the picture.

It's easier to do this over a wireless network:

  1. Go to "Signal Source" in the projector settings. The name may differ. All available ports are listed there.
  2. Choose DLNA or Wi-Fi. The network name and password will appear.
  3. Activate "Wi-Fi" on your phone.
  4. Find the projector's network and enter the password for it.
  5. Open the settings of your smartphone or tablet.
  6. Item "Screen".
  7. "Wireless Monitor" or "Wireless Projector".
  8. Select a device and allow data transfer.
  9. You can also select brightness, contrast, and in some models even turn the image upside down.

DLNA

  • Control Panel - Homegroup. If you have active display by category, then go to the "Network and Internet" section.
  • Click Create Group.
  • Click "Next".
  • Select the objects to which you want to provide network access. It will only be for devices included in the group. The projector needs Videos, Music and Pictures.

Choosing objects for general access

  • If you already have a homegroup, give it access to multimedia content.
  • Confirm the changes.
  • A password will appear, which must be entered when connecting new equipment to DLNA. It can be changed.
  • Click Finish. The current group parameters are displayed.
  • Click on "Allow devices to play shared content."
  • Come up with a name for your multimedia library.
  • When connecting the projector, give it access to the homegroup. And it will open files that are in "C: \\ Users \\ Public" or "C: \\ Users \\ General" folders.

You can also download programs for managing shared graphics, audio and video data. For example, there are utilities "JRiver Media Center" and "Home Media Server".

The functionality of projection equipment is limited with a wireless connection. You will not be able to change the image parameters through a computer and figure out how to turn the screen on the projector. Only content viewing is available - you will be able to open files from shared directories.

Picture setting

And the last stage of setting is the picture itself. Brightness, gamma, saturation. They must be selected independently. Many factors affect the quality of the frame: the lighting in the room, the distance to the screen, the screen itself, the number of viewers, your personal preferences and perceptions, the situation (for example, watching a movie with your family or presenting to colleagues). It is impossible to say with certainty which contrast is the best for a projector. This will have to be determined "by eye".

For office display, brightness is important. For everyone to see the screen. With a small number of viewers, it is better to focus on saturation and gamut. They increase clarity.

  1. Take some reference image to guide you. It can be a still from a movie or a photograph.
  2. The picture for setting up the projector should include dark and light colors. The best option is black and white. It is desirable that there are small details. And not just a single-color "fill", but the texture of some material. For example, clothes, wallpaper.
  3. It is necessary to choose the "scientific poke method". Evaluate at what gamma and contrast settings you can best see the transitions between colors.
  4. Adjust the brightness so as not to lose the clarity of the image.
  5. Check the settings on other frames. Watch an excerpt from the video. If your eyes do not get tired, you do not need to strain to see the details, the light does not blind you, then you have found the ideal parameters.

This can also be done via a PC.

  • Control panel - Screen.
  • Color Calibration.

  • Transfer the opened menu to the monitor (screen) that you want to configure.
  • Click Next several times. Along the way, read the instructions that appear in the window.
  • You will be given an example of "good" and "bad" scales. Focus on him and your perception.
  • Set the value that suits you and again "Next".
  • When choosing contrast and brightness, reference pictures with explanations will also appear.

Power point

Projectors are often used for presentations. Power Point even has a separate tool.

  1. In it, open the "Slide Show" tab (not a menu, but a tab).
  2. Open the "Show on ..." list.
  3. If everything is properly connected and configured, there will be a projector.
  4. To change the size and quality of the frame, click on "Resolution".
  5. You can use the "Presenter Mode" option. This will display buttons for controlling the presentation and notes on the screen.

You can understand which contrast and brightness of the projector is better from personal experience. There are no generic parameters. For official presentations, the settings are one, for "home" viewing - different.
