Jubler and Aegisub are special SRT editors. However, the most common way to open an SRT file is to use it with a video player and play the subtitles along with the movie.
In this case, you can open the SRT file using programs such as VLC, MPC-HC, KMPlayer, BS.Player or Windows Media Player (with the VobSub plugin). SRT format is also supported for videos hosted on YouTube... This means you can use subtitles on YouTube videos.
For example, when you open a movie in VLC, you can use the menu Subtitle - Add subtitle file to open the format subtitle srt and play it along with the video. A similar menu is available in all the video players listed above.
