How to restore a Windows 7 system on a laptop, a black screen appears when booting, the recovery environment does not work, I deleted everything hidden partitions, there is no original Windows 7 disk.

Spent a lot of time, tell me what to do now, or at least how to insure myself against such situations in the future, preferably without using paid data backup software.

How to restore your Windows 7 system

Unfortunately, there are enough reasons for this trouble, ranging from incorrectly written drivers, harmful actions of a virus, file system errors and ending with our erroneous actions when working with a computer, you do not need to be afraid of such problems, you need to learn how to deal with them effectively.

Let's think about how to restore the windows 7 system, as well as insure ourselves for the future from possible troubles using the backup and recovery tools built into the operating system.

We will learn how to restore Windows 7, without using third-party backup programs, even when the System Recovery Options are not loaded and the F-8 button is useless.

It has in its arsenal a fairly powerful and good tool -> Recovery Environment, which is created automatically when installing Windows 7 in a hidden partition and contains five other tools that solve numerous malfunctions and problems.

Note: If you learn how to use the Windows 7 recovery tools correctly, which is not difficult, you can do without additional and paid data backup programs.

You can start the recovery tool by pressing the F-8 button on your keyboard immediately after starting your computer. After that, you will see the Advanced boot options menu: Troubleshooting computer problems, then Safe Mode, Safe Mode with loading network drivers, etc.

Small digression: Before choosing the item Solve computer problems, try the easier option - Last Known Good Configuration - in simple words, the operating system always remembers the last successful boot of the computer and enters this information into the registry.

In case of problems with loading, Windows can remember the registry parameters and driver settings that were used at the last successful boot of the system and use them if you select the Last Known Good Configuration option.

If this tool does not help, select the first -> Computer troubleshooting,

Next, we get to the Windows 7 System Recovery Options menu, we need it, it is here that we can select the System Restore Tool we need, there are five of them, let's take a closer look at how they all work.

The first thing to do is apply Startup Repair (Automatically fix problems preventing Windows from starting).

Desired digression: After pressing the F-8 button when the computer boots, you may not have the item> Troubleshoot computer problems, but only Safe Mode and so on, the question arises why.

When installing Windows 7, the recovery environment partition is created automatically and is located in the root of the drive (C :) in the Recovery folder. You can also see in the Disk Management window - a separate, hidden partition of the hard drive, its volume is only 100 MB, it is used to store boot configuration files (BCD) and the system boot loader (bootmgr file).

You can see it Computer-> Management-> Disk Management. In no case should you delete this section (many people delete it out of ignorance), otherwise you will not start the recovery environment, that is, you will not have the item Troubleshooting computer problems, and in more severe cases, you simply will not boot the system.

On the lower screenshot, you can see another hidden partition, with a volume of 9.02 GB, this is a hidden recovery partition with the factory settings of my laptop, you may have it larger or smaller. It is also better not to delete it, if necessary, you can always restore Windows 7 from it.

What to do if you do not have a partition with the recovery environment and when you press the F-8 button in the Advanced Boot Options menu, the item Solving computer problems does not appear? How do you restore your Windows 7 system then?

The installation disc with the Windows 7 operating system can save here. You can run the recovery tool by booting from the original Windows 7 installation disc by selecting System Restore at the very beginning.

If you don't have an installation disc, then you can use the Windows 7 Recovery Disc (you can make it in any running Windows 7) in five minutes, then you can also boot from it and do the same.

So, we still got to the System Recovery Options, either using the F-8 button and the Troubleshoot item, or the Windows 7 installation disc or Windows 7 Recovery Disc.

In the Select System Restore Tools menu, select the first:

Launch recovery -> an analysis of malfunctions interfering with the normal loading of Windows 7 will occur and their further correction for the normal loading and functioning of the operating system.

In the process, we may be warned that problems have been found in the boot parameters, click Fix and restart.

System Restore -> using this function, we will be able to select a previously created system restore point, if we have it enabled, and roll back to the time when our Windows 7 worked fine and loaded, everything is simple here.

System image recovery -> I personally use this tool, with skillful use, it can replace paid data backup programs, if interested, read on.

What is it good for? It will help when you do not have the original Windows 7 installation disc and you deleted the hidden partition with the factory settings of your laptop, but that's not all.

Sometimes there are situations when, for various reasons or due to the actions of a virus, you will not be able to load the operating system at all, or many ask How to restore the Windows 7 system, even if the menu with Additional boot options is also unavailable. Reinstall the operating system again?

Therefore, immediately after installing Windows 7 on your laptop or computer, using this function, we create an archived image of our Windows 7 on the hard disk using this function -> System Image Restore, we save it.

It is imperative to create a Windows 7 Recovery Disc (see below), it will help you use the System Image if the Advanced Boot Options menu will not load.

We go to Start -> Control Panel -> Archiving computer data.

We select "Create a system image".

In my case, Local disk (E :), if you have several hard disks in the system unit, then of course it is better to place the backup on the hard drive where the operating system is not installed.

By default, the data backup program will select the partition with the Windows 7 operating system itself, if you wish, you can add Local drives for backup yourself, if only you have enough space.

Note: You can see that I have two operating systems installed on a laptop, so the backup program selected two Local drives.

Click Archive and the process of creating an archive with our Windows 7 will begin.

Created, it will look like this.

Now, if necessary, you can deploy the archive with Windows 7 to your computer in 20-30 minutes. It will be better if you copy the archive with the system additionally to a portable hard drive, this will make you doubly safe.

Let's imagine that we cannot start Windows 7 and deploy the backup we created, we will do it together.

We launch the Windows 7 Recovery Tool by pressing the F-8 button on the keyboard immediately after starting the computer.

The Advanced boot options menu opens, select Troubleshoot computer problems.

System image recovery

Use the latest available system image.

Of course, all our data on the Local Disk, where the operating system is being restored, will be deleted, so you can pre-boot from any Live CD and copy what you need.

How else can you restore your Windows 7 system? With the help of Windows 7 Recovery Disc, of course.

Let's create one that can be used to boot the computer, it will contain recovery tools with which you can restore Windows 7 boot faults, as well as restore the operating system from an archive copy that we created in advance.

Important: The system bitness is important for the recovery disk, you can use a 32-bit recovery disk for any 32-bit Windows 7, and a 64-bit recovery disk for any 64-bit Windows 7.

Going again Archiving computer data.

Create a system recovery disc, insert the DVD into the drive, click "Create disc".

When the Windows 7 bootable Recovery Disc is ready, put it in a safe place.

In order to restore Windows 7 from the Recovery Disc, you do not need, in principle, any working operating system at all.

You only need to change the boot priority to the floppy drive in the BIOS of your computer, insert the recovery disc into it and restore your Windows 7 using the archive.

Many people here can draw an analogy with data backup programs and this is correct, they work according to the same principle, only their functionality is, of course, more convenient.

Recovering Windows 7 from the Recovery Disc. Here's how to do it. Let's say we are in trouble, we cannot start Windows 7, when we press F-8 on the keyboard immediately after starting the computer, nothing happens.

We cannot get into the menu with Additional boot options and an error message is displayed. In this case, the system archive on the hard disk is not available to us. It was this kind of trouble that happened to our reader Ilya, who wrote us a letter asking for help.

In this situation, many reinstall Windows 7 from scratch, but not you and me, because we have a System Restore Disc.

We insert it into the drive and reboot, set the BIOS to boot from the floppy drive, as I said the boot disk, the System Recovery Options program starts.

Press Enter until the offer to boot from disk disappears.

An automatic recovery tool running from disk will try to restore Windows 7 to start.

If all else fails, choose any tool, try, for example, Restoring your computer using the previously created image of the operating system.

We use the last available system image.

What other ways are there to restore Windows 7?

There is another little-known way to restore the boot of Windows 7 after a failure, and I'll tell you about it. At first glance, it will seem difficult to many, but nevertheless it often helps me out.

The fact is, friends, that a very large part of the problems due to which you cannot boot Windows 7 lies in registry errors. And Windows 7 wouldn't be Windows 7 if it didn't have a mechanism to protect registry files. Such a mechanism exists and creates archive copies of the registry in the RegBack folder every 10 days, regardless of whether you have system restore enabled or not.

If you cannot solve problems with booting Windows 7, you should try replacing the valid (and apparently damaged) registry files from the Config folder with archive files from the RegBack folder. To do this, we will have to boot the computer from the Windows 7 installation disc or Windows 7 recovery disc.

We boot into the recovery environment, select the command line.

We type in it - notepad, we get into Notepad, then File and Open.

We go into the real explorer, click My Computer. Now we need the system drive C :, attention, the drive letters here may be mixed up, but the system drive C: I think you can recognize it by the Windows and Program Files system folders inside.

We go to the C: \\ Windows \\ System32 \\ Config folder, here are the valid registry files, specify the File type - All files and see our registry files, we also see the RegBack folder, in which the Task Scheduler makes a backup copy of the registry keys every 10 days.

So, we will replace the existing registry files from the Config folder with the backup registry files from the RegBack folder.
So, first of all, let's delete the SAM, SECURITY, SOFTWARE, DEFAULT, SYSTEM files from the C: \\ Windows \\ System32 \\ Config folder, which are responsible for all the registry hives (my advice is to copy the registry hives somewhere just in case, just in case).

In their place, copy and paste files with the same names, but from a backup copy, that is, from the RegBack folder.

Note: All files SAM, SECURITY, SOFTWARE, DEFAULT, SYSTEM cannot be deleted, delete them one by one. Then copy the same files from the RegBack folder to their place.

Friends, if this did not help either, apply Windows 7 file integrity restoration, if the operating system does not boot, it is done in the same way as in Windows 8.

What else do we have from Windows 7 recovery tools?

Memory Diagnostics 7 -> checks the system memory for errors. Command line -> you can use it to delete files that prevent Windows 7 from booting.

I hope our article on how to restore a Windows 7 system helped you.

Due to the presence of viruses, mismatch of drivers or software, the OS may malfunction. If your Windows crashed, don't panic. The situation can be corrected by returning the state of files and programs to the time when the PC was working properly.

Certain errors and problems may occur while running OS Windows 7, 10 or 8. As a result of such failures, a new start of the operating system in operating mode becomes impossible. In this case, it is not at all necessary to do a laborious reinstallation of the OS. It is enough to perform a system restore.

OS recovery using recovery environment

When working, we use the following scheme of actions:

 1. Reboot the computer, press the F8 key during boot;
 2. Troubleshooting;
 3. System restore, select OS restore point;
 4. Click "Further" and again "Further";
 5. Push the button "Done", we reboot the system (in the Menu, select the boot with the last good configuration).

There are several ways that you can resort to resuming the OS. Some of them are based on rolling back to saved parameters. Others simply clear the data.

You can "reanimate" the OS in one of the following ways:

 • by choosing restore points;
 • using the command line;
 • through safe mode;
 • using the recovery environment;
 • using an image / boot disk.

Recovering the operating system using the "reanimation" checkpoints of the system is one of the most affordable, effective and popular options. To apply it, you need to make a series of clicks:

 1. Panel "Start";
 2. "System Restore";
 3. "Further";
 4. "Select a restore point";
 5. "Done".

This operation will fix the problem with the computer, discard the changes and return the system to the operating state that allowed the PC to boot normally. No data, files or documents are lost during such recovery. All data is saved. The operation is reversible. You can roll back the system to a previous state of the computer and use a different restore point.

Many people ask themselves how to independently (manually) make a recovery point in order to select it in the future? To do this, in the same menu "Start" - "System Restore" you can create such a point yourself at any convenient and suitable moment for you. It will be saved with the current date, which you can only remember.

From the point of recovery

In computer engineering, there is such a thing as a restore point. These are saved PC parameters. As a rule, saving occurs automatically with each successful OS boot. The easiest way to resume Windows 7 is to use this data.

Press F8 while booting your computer. This command will bring up a menu of options for starting the system. Next, you need to select the Last Known Good Configuration option.

Another method can be used. Go to the properties of the My Computer folder. Find the line System protection, by clicking on which you will open the dialog box of the same name. Click Recovery - Next. We set a key date, indicate the disks to be repaired, and confirm the actions. After restarting, the PC should work fine.

No restore points

You can fix problems with the OS even without restore points. To do this, you need to resort to the LiveCD program. It needs to be downloaded and written to a USB flash drive with the .iso extension.
Further, all actions will take place in the BIOS. It is necessary to configure booting from a USB flash drive. To do this, in the Boot section, select USB-HDD in the First boot device line.

Before proceeding directly to the recovery, copy all the necessary files to a removable disk. The LiveCD program provides a special menu for this purpose.

We will fix the system error using an archive copy. Connect the USB flash drive, open the Windows \\ System32 \\ config \\ folder. Files with the names default, sam, security, software, system must be transferred to any other folder. In their place we transfer similar files from the RegBack folder and restart the computer.

The described method will only help if the problem is related to the registry.

Command line

You can resort to "reanimating" Windows 7 from the command line if the PC starts to freeze or work slowly, however, the system boots. Enter the menu "Start" and use the right mouse button to run Command Prompt as administrator. Issue the rstrui.exe command to open System Restore. Click "Further"... In the next window, select the desired rollback point and click again "Further"... Upon completion of the process, the PC should work normally.

You can enter the utility differently. Go to "Start"... To call the command line, press "Run" and register the CMD command. Click on the found CMD.exe file and wait for the launch. Next, enter rstrui.exe in the command line and confirm the action with the Enter key on the keyboard.

It is not always possible to play it safe and create OS restore points in advance. There may be problems that block the option of such a "resuscitation" of the PC. Then you can use another, no less effective and easy option - Windows system recovery using the system itself.

We rely on the diagram:

 1. Icon "My computer" - right mouse button "Properties";
 2. "System protection";
 3. In the new window, click "System protection", restore button;
 4. "Further";
 5. We select a restore point in accordance with the date;
 6. We indicate the system disks to be restored;
 7. We confirm the operations and reboot the system.

Restoring Windows 7 with Safe Mode

This method is preferred if the usual system boot is impossible. Then after pressing the PC power button on the system unit, hold down the F8 key to call Launch menu... One of the "Menu" options is "Safe mode"... Select it and press Enter on your keyboard. As soon as Windows boots up, we perform the same algorithm of actions that we described earlier.

System Restore Windows 8 / 8.1

If you were able to start the OS, you can resume Windows 8 via "Parameters"... Move your cursor over the upper right corner and enter them. Click on "Changing computer settings"... Section "Recovery" will offer several options:

 1. "Normal recovery with information preservation".
 2. "Removing data and reinstalling the OS".
 3. "Special Option".

Decide what exactly needs to be done. Then follow the prompts on the menu.

If you choose the latter method, in the window that opens, click on the diagnostic item. You will be offered the following options:

 • "Reestablish";
 • "Reset to original state";
 • "Extra options"... This item includes the ability to roll back to the desired resume point.

To resume Windows 8.1 press Win + R and call sysdm.cpl. In the system properties window in the tab "Protection" specify the required system drive. Click on "Reestablish"... By clicking "Further", you will be able to see a list of rollback points. Select the one you want and click Search for Affected Programs... Changes that have been made on the PC since the selected moment will be deleted. End the process by clicking "Done".

In the case of working with Windows 8, problems may occur, incorrect operation of the Internet, etc. To fix this, you can use the classic recovery method via restore points.

Another option is to roll back the system. To do this, open the menu "Start" - "Control Panel" - Windows Update... Choose an item "Removing updates"... You can do the same using the command line.

So, in the list of updates that opens, we delete those of them, from the moment of installation of which (look by date) problems and problems began. Delete unnecessary files and reboot.

In Windows 8.1, you can perform a factory reset. Important files will not be affected by this operation. The method is effective, but for its implementation you need the OS to boot without problems. We use the algorithm:

 1. Right side of the monitor - "Parameters";
 2. "Change settings";
 3. "Update and recovery" - "Recovery";
 4. "Recover without deleting files".

If you cannot log into the system in the usual way, you must use the system disk. We load the installation disk, select "System Restore"... Push the button "Diagnostics"and "Reestablish".

If you have problems with Windows 10, press Windows + Pause. Go to "System protection" and press "Reestablish""Further"... Select the required indicator and press again "Further"... When done, press "Done"... The computer will automatically restart and the changes will take effect.

One of the advantages of "ten" is the ability to return the settings to the factory settings. This avoids having to install the system first. To reset data go to "Computer settings"Update and Security"Recovery""Reset the computer to its original state"... Click "To begin".

You can take care of the possibility of rollback in case of failure in advance. You can create resume points yourself, or you can set up their automatic creation at the desired frequency. To do this, in the settings, in the Update and security item, select Backup service. Specify where to save copies, click Add Disk. After selecting a device, the function will be activated.

You can restore the Windows 10 system again through using restore points. In this case, the system will roll back to the moment when it was unimpeded booting and working without failures. This recovery method is described at the beginning of the article.

If the OS does not boot, then a warning table appears on the screen with the key "Additional recovery options"... Click it and select "Diagnostics" - "System Restore"... We make a choice of the Windows restore point, wait for the system rollback and reboot.

If such operations did not help and the computer continues to work incorrectly, you can roll back to the basic settings. Some programs and utilities, personal PC settings will be reset, and personal data will be deleted.

This technique is rarely used if the other options described above do not help. The algorithm of actions is as follows:

 1. "Start" - "Parameter selection" - tab "Updates and Security";
 2. Paragraph "Recovery" - button "To begin";
 3. We choose to delete all files or keep them partially.

It will then take 40-90 minutes to roll back the system.

Resume using the installation disc

One of the radical methods of fixing the error involves using an installation disc. After launching it in BIOS, click System Restore. Under Troubleshooting, specify the desired action. Then follow the prompts of the system to complete the process.

Good day!

No matter how reliable Windows is - sometimes you still have to face that the system refuses to boot (for example, the same one pops up), slows down, is buggy (note: all sorts of errors pop up)etc.

Many users solve such problems by simply reinstalling Windows (the method is reliable, but rather long and problematic) ... Meanwhile, in most cases, you can quickly fix the system using windows recovery (fortunately, there is such a function in the OS itself)!

In this article, I want to consider several options for recovering Windows 7.

Note! This article does not cover issues related to computer hardware problems. For example, if after turning on the PC nothing happens at all (note: more than one LED is off, the sound of the cooler is not heard, etc.), then this article will not help you ...

1. How to roll back the system to its previous state (if Windows has booted)

If Windows has booted, that's half the battle :).

1.1. With the help of specials. recovery wizards

By default, system checkpoints are enabled in Windows. For example, if you install a new driver or some program (which may affect the operation of the system as a whole), then "smart" Windows creates a point (ie remembers all system settings, saves drivers, a copy of the registry, etc.). And if after installing new software (note: or during a virus attack) problems arose, then you can always return everything back!

To start recovery mode - open the START menu and enter "recovery" in the search box, then you will see the necessary link (see screen 1). Or in the START menu there is an alternative link (option): start / standard / service / system recovery.

Screen 1. Start Windows 7 recovery

Note! OS recovery does not affect documents, pictures, personal files, etc. Recently installed drivers and programs may be removed. Registration and activation of some software can also "fly off" (at least the one that was activated was installed after creating a checkpoint, with the help of which the PC will be restored).

Then comes the most crucial moment: you need to choose a point to which we will roll back the system. You need to choose the point at which your Windows worked as expected, without errors or failures (it is most convenient to navigate by dates).

Note! Also enable the checkbox " Show other restore points". For each restore point, you can see which programs it will affect - for this there is a button " Search for affected programs«.

When you select a point to restore - just click "Next".

After that, you will only have the last thing - to confirm the OS recovery (as in screenshot 4). By the way, when restoring the system, the computer will be restarted, so save all the data you are working with now!

After restarting the PC, Windows will "roll back" to the desired restore point. In many cases, thanks to such a simple procedure, it is possible to avoid many problems: various screen lockers, problems with drivers, viruses, etc.

1.2. Using the AVZ utility

An excellent program that you don't even need to install: just extract from the archive and run the executable file. It can not only scan your PC for viruses, but also restore many parameters and settings in Windows. By the way, the utility works in all popular Windows: 7, 8, 10 (32/64 bits).

Screen 4.1. AVZ: file / restore.

By the way, the list of restored settings and parameters is quite large (see the screen below):

 • restoring startup parameters for exe, com, pif files;
 • reset Internet Explorer protocol settings;
 • restoring the start page of the Internet Explorer browser;
 • reset Internet Explorer search settings;
 • removing all restrictions for the current user;
 • restoration of Explorer settings;
 • removal of debuggers of system processes;
 • unlocking: task manager, system registry;
 • cleaning the Hosts file (responsible for network settings);
 • removing static routes, etc.

2. How to restore Windows 7 if it does not boot

This is a difficult case, but we will fix it :).

Most often, the problem with loading Windows 7 is associated with a damaged OS bootloader, disruption of the MBR. To return the system to normal operation, you need to restore them. More on this below ...

2.1. Troubleshooting Computer / Last Known Good Configuration

Windows 7 is a pretty smart system (at least compared to previous Windows). If you did not delete hidden sections (and many do not even look or see them) and your system is not "Start" or "Initial" (in which these functions are often unavailable), then if you press several times when turning on the computer f8 key , you will see additional download options .

The bottom line is that among the boot options there are two that will help restore the system:

 1. first of all try the item “ Last Known Good Configuration". Windows 7 remembers and saves data about the last time the computer was turned on, when everything worked as expected and the system was booted;
 2. if the previous option did not help, try running " Troubleshooting computer problems«.

2.2. Recovery using a bootable USB flash drive

If nothing worked and the system still does not work - then for further Windows recovery we will need an installation flash drive or disk with Windows 7 (from which, for example, this OS was installed). If it's not there, I recommend this post, it tells you how to create it:

To boot from such a bootable USB flash drive (disk) - it is necessary to properly configure the BIOS (in detail about the BIOS setup -), or when turning on the laptop (PC), select the boot device. Also, how to boot from a USB flash drive (and how to create it) is described in detail in the article about installing Windows 7 - (especially since the first step in recovery is similar to the installation one :)).

Windows 7 setup window appeared ... What's next?

In the next step, we choose not to install Windows, but to restore! This link is in the lower left corner of the window (as in screenshot 7).

After following this link, the computer will search for OS that were previously installed for some time. After that, you will see a list of Windows 7 operating systems that you can try to restore (usually there is one system). Select the desired system and click "Next" (see screen 8).

 1. Launch recovery - recovery of Windows boot records (MBR). In many cases, if there was a problem with the bootloader, after the work of such a wizard, the system starts to boot normally;
 2. System Restore - rollback of the system using checkpoints (discussed in the first part of the article). By the way, such points can be created not only by the system itself in auto-mode, but also by the user manually;
 3. System image recovery - this function will help restore Windows from a disk image (if, of course, you have one :));
 4. Memory diagnostics - testing and checking RAM (a useful option, but not within the scope of this article);
 5. Command line - will help to carry out manual recovery (for advanced users. By the way, we will also partially touch upon it in this article).

Let's consider the steps in order to help return the OS to its previous state ...

2.2.1. Launch recovery

See Screen 9

This is the first thing I recommend to start with. After starting this wizard, you will see a search box for problems (as in screenshot 10). After a certain time, the wizard will inform you whether the problems have been found and resolved. If your problem is not resolved, go to the next recovery option.

2.2.2. Restore a previously saved state of Windows

See Screen 9

Those. roll back the system to a restore point, as in the first part of the article. Only there we ran this wizard in Windows itself, and now using a bootable USB flash drive.

In principle, after choosing the bottom option, all actions will be standard, as if you launched the wizard in Windows itself (the only thing is that the graphics will be in the classic Windows style).

The first point - just agree with the wizard and click "Next".

Screen 11. Recovery Wizard (1)

Screen 12. Recovery point selected - Recovery Wizard (2)

Then you confirm your intention to restore the system and wait. After restarting your computer (laptop) - check the system to see if it boots.

Screen 13. Warning - Recovery Wizard (3)

If the restore points did not help, the last thing remains, rely on the command line :).

2.2.3. Command line recovery
