Everything is the same as with other people: an impenetrable, the strongest smartphone, of all that I have seen, I don’t have 1 layer of glass, but it doesn’t matter, it still continues to work, as if nothing had happened, after , as I broke it, the battery consumption became less, there were less lags, so I recommend it for hands * s.

I would like to share my impressions about this device. The device was bought from some alcoholic for 500 rubles as an ordinary dialer and a client in VK. It turned out that the phone was not made for the average user at all, but apparently for fans of extreme sports, miners, crane operators who work on the construction of skyscrapers, since I have no doubt that it would also withstand a fall from such a height (more on that later), perhaps for cavers, or people studying volcanoes. This little, ever-glitching, unprepossessing and fat handsome man provided me with incommensurable help in the auto-mechanical business, shining his, for some unknown reason, always fading flashlight on the bowels of my car, I have no doubt that if necessary, I could jack the car using it as a spacer. leave phone

    1. Price 2. Comfortable in the hand

    The battery ran out quickly..............................

512 MB of RAM is very small, slow

The battery, of course, is the main disadvantage, the largest and most importantly, you won’t pick up analogues Well, the back cover is very slippery

The photo taken with this camera is a bit blurry; - A lot of extra software. But on the other hand, it's good, I like to do experiments on smartphones such as rooting and manually editing system files; - I once bought it only for calls and system settings (I also like to delve into the settings). Now 462MB of RAM (not even 512MB!) and 1GB of internal memory are not enough for me at all. RAM memory is very often 80% or more full. This gives a very strong braking effect!

Camera is bad. The memory is too low, I have only 27 MB of free memory, but I do not have any applications installed. Battery consumption is also bad, but it will do for me.

Further, he did not feel very well, but the situation quickly recovered by blowing the compressor into three atmospheres. Dirty spots apparently deposited on the backlight sheet in the screen healed as if bruises on the body did not leave a trace over time, which indicates that organic materials were clearly used during its assembly that can work as regenerative functions, which, unfortunately, the manufacturers of the little rascal were silent about) Fall from a height of two meters, with a completely unprotected completely bare screen, it seemed to finish off our baby, showing this by the fact that the sensor stopped working in certain areas. But no. Having made a little effort with the characteristic crunch of small glass, the screen made up for its functions at the same level. No cracks or chips, work continues as usual. Perhaps it is my

    1. Very little RAM in the built-in memory 2. Constant jamming 3. The camera simply has NO FOCUS 4. There is barely enough battery for 3 hours 5. Display

Alcatel PIXI 3 (4.5) is a compact model with a 4.5-inch screen, the smartphone feels very thick. Phone dimensions - 132 × 65 × 11.9 mm, weight - 151 grams, quite comparable to Lenovo A328. It is noteworthy that the weight of 125 grams is declared on the manufacturer's website, this is a clear mistake.

Alcatel PIXI 3 (4.5) lies comfortably in the palm of your hand thanks to the rounded edges, it is quite convenient to operate it with one hand. Visually, the smartphone almost does not stand out, it has a very typical, average design, except that large pictures on the buttons below the screen immediately catch your eye. On the front panel there was even a place for an event indicator light - it seems like a trifle, but nice. It will always be clear if you missed a call or received an SMS message. At the back, the phone received a soft touch rubberized coating with a large inscription in italics “PIXI” – many may like it, but most likely it will wear out in a month or two.

Although the Alcatel PIXI 3 (4.5) is made of low-end plastic, the case is still not so badly assembled. It crackles a little, and the lid is removed with little difficulty, but nothing supernatural. All slots for SIM and MicroSD cards are hidden under a removable battery.

Screen - 3.3

The smartphone received a typical budget 4.5-inch display, on which they decided to save money (as, indeed, on everything else).

The screen resolution is low - only 854 × 480 pixels. Estimated pixel density is 218 per inch. The image is fuzzy, and if you do not have vision problems, then it will not be difficult to notice individual pixels. The display type is not specified, it is only written that it is a TFT (Thin Film Transistor). But this is the same as saying nothing - this is how you can write about most modern displays. Judging by the fading of the picture during deviations, this is more likely TN than IPS. The display feels no more than two clicks at the same time and is not equipped with a light sensor (accordingly, there is no auto-brightness control). The screen is not particularly protected, you can only paste the film separately. The range of brightness change is not the widest - from 36 to 316 cd / m 2. For darkness, 36 cd / m 2 is too much. At first, we didn’t even manage to measure the color gamut normally - each time the colorimeter gave an error, but on the fourth attempt, it nevertheless took measurements and showed something about half of the standard gamut.

Cameras - 2.5

Alcatel PIXI 3 (4.5) received two low-quality cameras of 5 and 2 MP.

The resolution is standard for a very low price, but their main problem is the lack of autofocus. Getting clear photos is problematic - the result is poor even by the standards of 5 MP cameras (for comparison, the Lenovo A2010 with 5 MP shot much better). At the same time, the camera still has its own features, for example, flash and HDR mode. It's funny, but in the settings it says that the video is recorded at a maximum resolution of 840 × 480 pixels, but when checked from a PC, it turns out to be as much as HD-resolution at 1280 × 720 pixels (that is, even more than it was written).

The 2 MP front camera can only shoot budget selfies with filters such as sepia, retro, and video with a low resolution of 640 × 480 pixels.

Camera photo - 2.5

Working with text - 5.0

In addition to the standard keyboard from Google, Alcatel PIXI 3 (4.5) has Swift Key installed. It offers continuous input, markup of additional characters, learnable predictive input of words. Unless switching between languages is not as convenient as in a standard keyboard - you need to hold down the space bar and drag it to the side.

Internet - 2.0

Alcatel PIXI 3 (4.5) comes preinstalled with Browser and Google Chrome. The first one has features such as search, fit the page to the width of the screen, select a search engine, and more. It's a pity, but the adjustment to the screen width did not work for us. Chrome, on the other hand, boasts only the ability to synchronize tabs and history with the desktop version of the program. When working with browsers, we noticed periodic sticking on pages and a lack of device RAM.

Communications - 1.0

In this regard, Alcatel PIXI 3 (4.5) is a typical state employee. It's good that at least there is 3G support (for example, last year's Explay Rio didn't even have that). The phone received the following set of communications:

  • 3G support (800, 1800, 2100, 2300 and 2600 MHz)
  • Wi-Fi (802.11 b / g / n) with the ability to distribute the Internet
  • Bluetooth version 4.0
  • A-GPS
  • FM radio (requires headphones to work).

The microUSB connector does not support any advanced functions - only charging and connecting to a PC for data exchange. I am glad that when exchanging data, the phone remains available for work. The smartphone works with two SIM-cards, but only 2G-Internet is available from the second one. During test calls, we heard the interlocutor quite well, as he heard us. The cold start of the GPS module took about three minutes - the result is so-so, but it is considered acceptable for the first start.

Multimedia - 3.0

Alcatel cannot boast of supporting a large number of audio and video files right out of the box. The smartphone did not play music in FLAC and MPG, RMVB, FLV format videos in tests, and also could not cope with the HEVC video codec.

In addition to the Google Music program, the phone has its own rather simple player with an equalizer. The phone comes with headphones, the sound in them is not bad for a device with such a price.

There are no special settings in the video player, except for repeating the video or stretching the picture to full screen.

Battery - 2.2

The Alcatel PIXI 3 (4.5) battery showed poor results, but if you look at the category up to 4000 rubles, they are better than average.

The phone was discharged in 3 hours and 45 minutes of watching a movie in HD-resolution at maximum brightness. In music player mode, the battery lasted 39 hours (almost like Huawei Honor 4C). For an hour of work of the GeekBench 3 Battery Test, charging lost 19% at once. The phone can last for a day of work, if you do not run applications once again and save energy. The smartphone comes with a 0.55 A charger. It fully charges the Alcatel PIXI 3 (4.5) battery with a capacity of 1400 mAh in about two and a half hours. There is also a special economy mode, which is configured manually - you can decide for yourself which functions and applications to disable and which not.

Performance - 1.5

Alcatel PIXI 3 (4.5) is an entry-level performance smartphone. It periodically slowed down in daily use.

The specifications of the chipset are quite simple: a two-year-old dual-core 32-bit Mediatek MT6572 running at 1.3 GHz. The amount of RAM is 512 MB, which is not enough, but here they obviously save on literally everything. The smartphone often slows down, even unlocking the screen does not look smooth. In synthetic tests, Alcatel PIXI 3 (4.5) received the expected minimum results:

  • in GeekBench 3 - 575 points (less than Samsung Galaxy Nexus 3-4 years ago)
  • in AnTuTu - 12,259 (one and a half times lower than last year's Asus Zenfone 4)
  • and 3DMark Ice Storm Unlimited didn't even want to run, just like the Extreme version. Only Ice Storm earned, in which the phone showed only 2,274 points.

The lightest and simplest games run and work relatively well, but the already heavier Minion Rush game noticeably slows down, the image is not at all smooth. You swipe up to jump, and you already have time to remove your finger from the screen, and the character is just starting to jump.

Memory - 3.0

The amount of built-in memory Alcatel PIXI 3 (4.5) is 4 GB - a typical indicator for an ultra-low price. Of these, only 1.82 GB is available to the user.

But the phone has a slot for a memory card up to 32 GB. You can get to it only if you remove the cover and remove the battery of the device, so there is no need to talk about hot swapping the card. At the same time, it is interesting that, in addition to photos and music, some applications and games can be transferred to the card from the built-in memory.

Peculiarities

Alcatel PIXI 3 (4.5) is running Android 4.4. Upgrading to something newer can not even be expected. The features are low price, support for two SIM-cards, a collapsible case, almost permanent “brakes” and a large PIXI inscription on the rubberized cover. We also note that initially many applications have already been preinstalled on its 4 GB of internal memory, for example, social. networks, antivirus "Doctor Security" and so on.

Positioning

The segment of low-cost smartphones is becoming more and more noticeable every year, but if until recently it seemed impossible to buy an official device with Android on board for less than 3,000-4,000 rubles, then after the Megafon Login model appeared on the market, the situation changed dramatically. The company brought to Russia the simplest device based on Android, invested serious money in advertising and sold the smartphone at cost, earning on the sale of contracts that go into the "load" to the device. Following MegaFon, two other operators of the big three, Beeline and MTS, presented similar models under their own brands.

Today, there are already a lot of smartphones in the category under 3,000 rubles on the market, and although these are mostly similar offers from different brands, there are plenty to choose from. In this review, I want to talk about the Alcatel One Touch Pixi 4007D smartphone, its retail price is about 2,000 rubles, however, in the Svyaznoy chain of stores, this model is sold at a promotion for 990 rubles, so the result is a very interesting offer even on background of the updated Megafon Login 2.

The action is called "It's hard to imagine such a price" and is held from May 1 to June 30. When buying an Alcatel One Touch Pixi 4007D smartphone in Svyaznoy stores, you can take along with it a SIM card from MTS with the Super MTS tariff plan for 100 rubles (then it will be converted into the Smart tariff) and deposit 900 rubles into the account . If this condition is met, the cost of the smartphone will not be 1,990 rubles, but 990. Accordingly, you will need to spend all the same 1,990 rubles, but 950 of them end up on your account, on a new SIM card with the Smart tariff plan. The option is interesting for those who need the most inexpensive Android device and also need a new SIM card for mobile Internet, for example. Now about the device itself.

Design, body materials

The device is available in three colors - black, white and dark blue. In all variants, the front side and part of the plastic around the perimeter are painted black, the only difference is the color of the battery cover. In the photo you see a smartphone in white. The plastic around the perimeter is matte, on the front side there is an insert made of glossy plastic. The battery cover is also glossy.

Pixi 4007D looks simple and without pretensions, at the same time, there is nothing to complain about here - no decorative features, extra elements and inserts. Universal design without pretensions.

Assembly, body wear

The build quality is high - the removable cover fits very tightly to the surface of the case, there are no large gaps and gaps between the structural elements, which is even surprising for a smartphone at this price. There are only two complaints - glossy plastic quickly gets dirty and "collects" fingerprints and dust, and is also covered with tiny scratches. So if the smartphone will be used as an access point and worn somewhere in the depths of a backpack or bag, you should be prepared for the rapid wear of the case.

Dimensions

The smartphone is small, fits perfectly in the hand, you can hold and control the device with one hand. Dimensions: 115 x 62.3 x 12.2 mm, weight - 118 grams.

Controls

On the front panel, under the screen, there are three touch keys - "Back", "Home" and "Menu". The buttons are not backlit, the touch area does not always accurately process pressings, you need to press each of the keys with effort and to the marking point, otherwise the pressing may not be processed.

On the left edge there is a volume rocker, on the top there is a power button and a 3.5 mm mini-jack. The opening of the spoken microphone is located under the block of touch keys on the front panel.

Each time you touch the touch key, the device vibrates; vibration can be turned off in the smartphone settings.

Above the screen are a speaker, a light indicator and a sensor for automatically adjusting the backlight level of the screen.

Slots for two SIM-cards (miniSIM) and memory cards (microSD) are located under the battery.

The smartphone reads memory cards up to 32 GB, in addition, a file manager is preinstalled in the device, so you can work with the contents of the card immediately by taking the device out of the box and turning it on.

Screen

Alcatel Pixi 4007D has a capacitive TFT touch screen with a diagonal of 3.5” and a resolution of 320x480 pixels (HVGA). The display displays up to 262 thousand colors, has a good margin of brightness with the function of automatic backlight level adjustment and mediocre viewing angles.

The protective surface above the screen is a layer of transparent plastic.

Camera

The smartphone has a camera with a VGA resolution (0.3 MP), so it makes no sense to talk about the quality of the received pictures or the settings. The camera is not suitable for anything, it is here just for show.

In the camera settings, you can set the image resolution to 2 MP, in this case, the size is increased by interpolating images, it looks like this:

VGA 2 MP

Offline work

The capacity of the removable battery in the smartphone is 1300 mAh. The operating time declared by the manufacturer in 2G mode is up to 500 hours in standby mode and up to 13 hours in talk mode, in 3G - up to 300 hours in standby mode and up to 7 hours in talk mode.

In reality, a smartphone with two valid SIM-cards works without problems in standby mode for more than a week. If you use it occasionally for calls (a couple of times a day, as a second phone), the operating time is also calculated in days, on average it is 3-5 days, depending on activity.

Performance

The smartphone is based on the MTK 6575 platform with a single-core 1 GHz processor, equipped with 256 MB of RAM and about 100 MB of memory for storing user data. This volume is barely enough to install a couple of programs and toys, so if you plan to use your smartphone not only as a portable access point, you need to immediately buy a memory card for it.

The speed of the smartphone is far from good, especially when compared with top-end devices. But you can look at it from the other side. For a phone for 1,000 rubles, the performance is more than adequate - there are no serious lags and delays when working with the interface, and pauses in launching programs for such a weak filling are quite natural, but you can survive them.

Interfaces

The smartphone works in GSM (850/900/1800/1900) and UMTS (900/2100) networks. Both high-speed data transfer standards, EDGE and HSDPA, are supported. The first SIM card slot is intended for use as calls and for 2G / 3G mobile Internet, the SIM card in the second one works only in the 2G band. For synchronization with a PC and data transfer, the included microUSB cable is used. USB 2.0 interface.

Embedded module Bluetooth 4.0 (A2DP). Most common profiles are supported.

WiFi (802.11b/g/n). In my sample, the Wi-Fi module worked flawlessly.

wifi router. The smartphone has a function of "sharing" 2G / 3G Internet connection via Wi-Fi. In the settings of wireless networks, the option "Modem mode" is selected, then "Wi-Fi router". In the settings, you can select the network name, password, and connection type (open, WPA2).

Implementation of the work of two SIM-cards

The device has one radio module, respectively, if you are talking using one SIM card, the other one is not available at that moment and when you call it, the person will hear the phrase “subscriber unavailable”. In the settings, you can assign a color for each of the "sim cards" and change the name. When making a call or sending a message, a pop-up menu appears asking you to select the SIM card with which the action will be performed. In the settings, you can also disable the appearance of this window and simply select the "default" SIM card.

Navigation

There is no GPS support in the smartphone, there is only the determination of coordinates by additional means (A-GPS). To work with maps like Google Maps or Yandex Maps, the accuracy provided by A-GPS is quite enough, but full-fledged navigation software will not work on a smartphone.

The era of smartphones is increasingly replacing "old-style" push-button phones with a minimal set of functions and far from the best characteristics from everyday life. And Alcatel only supported the general idea by launching quite good, inexpensive, but high-quality smartphones on the consumer market. One of them - Alcatel One Touch Pixi 3(its review will go a little further), it deserves attention and can be considered as a mobile device for every day - with a good assembly, convenient and affordable, this phone has won its right to exist in the modern world of electronics.

Characteristics of Alcatel Van Touch Pixie 3

What did Alcatel rely on when bringing its new products to the public? First of all, on the "golden" combination of cost and functional load. A fairly powerful 2-core 32-bit MediaTek MT 6572M processor with a clock frequency of 1 GHz is fully consistent with the internal software of the gadget and successfully pulls all programs and applications installed by the manufacturer. The operating system is represented by Android 4.4.2. And even if this is not the latest OS model, but given that the phone is able to update itself to subsequent versions, this does not look so tragic on the whole.

In addition, the already existing characteristics of Alcatel One Touch Pixi 3 are adequately complemented by its compact dimensions - 121.3x64.2x11.6 mm and low weight - only 110 grams. It is these models that fit comfortably in any hand and do not look bulky. The touch screen, multi-touch with a TFT-matrix and an average diagonal of 4 inches, is capable of simultaneously distinguishing up to 2 touches and does not suffer from poor color reproduction or poor contrast. On the contrary, everything is at the good level that can be expected from smartphones of this series. Screen resolution - 800x480 pixels - forms an image density of 233 pixels per inch. Also, this model is available with a diagonal of 3.5 inches and a resolution of 480x320 pixels, and 4.5- and 5-inch screens, their resolution is already 854 x 480 pixels.

Colour

Externally, Alcatel One Touch Pixi 3 4013D (reviews, which, by the way, indicate that the model will be popular) is not much different from any typical smartphones - the front panel is made of glass (we note, however, that it is ordinary), the back is made of plastic, matte, pleasant to the touch and not particularly dirty, there is also a brand logo, the corners are gently rounded with smooth lines. There are no special ones for phones in this sample, so if you need additional protection, you will have to purchase it yourself separately. Alcatel One Touch Pixi 3 can be found in several colors: classic black called "Volcanic Black", regular white (white), silver (silver) and pink (pink). It is worth noting that only the color of the back cover changes, the front panel remains in black color. Support available right away 2 sim cards(Dual). Year of release - 2015.

Operating time and memory capacity

The Alcatel Van Touch Pixie 3 battery can also be considered standard, its capacity is 1400 mAh - this allows you to use the device in standby mode for about 2 days. In conversational mode and with other activity (Internet, music, games...), the time naturally decreases, and in this case, the period from charging to charging will be no more than 8 hours.

The RAM is exactly as much as is required to service this model - 512 MB, the main one is 4 GB, but you can buy up to 32 GB more by installing a microSD card in the appropriate slot. The smartphone has a voice navigation function and a standard set of wireless technologies - Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, and it also supports the technology edge. For music lovers, a built-in stereo FM radio is at your service.

Camera

There are two cameras for photo and video shooting, as it should be for a decent smartphone - a regular one with 2 megapixels and a resolution of 1980x1020 pixels, and a front one with 0.3 megapixels and a maximum resolution of 640x480 pixels. The quality of photos and videos is slightly enhanced by an automatic LED flash, but there is no autofocus, so there will definitely not be clear images at long distances. To get optimal shots and shoot more or less high-quality video, you will have to choose short distances and an acceptable level of illumination of objects. During video recording, the camera is able to capture up to 30 frames per second and save the finished product in MP4 or H.264 extension, the maximum video resolution will be 1280x720.

Summing up, we can say that the price set for Alcatel One Touch Pixi 3 perfectly corresponds to its internal content. Yes, without frills and various bells and whistles, but this is a great option when you can save money and not lose quality. The technical characteristics of Alcatel keep up with the times, there are no special glitches and freezes in the system, and in addition, this smartphone, due to the presence of two SIM cards, can easily replace two ordinary phones.

Price Alcatel One Touch Pixi 3

You can buy this cute toy in many large and small stores - for example, it has long been announced in an online store

Customized Beeline smartphone with a 5-inch screen and 4G (LTE) support for two SIM-cards. The price of the kit is 5,990 rubles, together with a smartphone they give 4 free months on the “All for 500” tariff. The device category is a budget smartphone with a large screen.

Actually, the smartphone is positioned as a modern budget device, having declared a price of 3,990 rubles for it, the remaining 2,000 rubles. conditionally considered a fee for 4 months at the tariff "Everything for 500".

In principle, they have the right to indicate a price tag of 3,900, but for this money you cannot get a smartphone even theoretically. 5,990 for a set with communication services or 7,490 rubles. if you take only the smartphone itself. Anyway, the price can be considered the main advantage of this model with a five-inch screen. I remember that at the beginning of the year, Beeline came up with the “Second Smartphone as a Gift” campaign, then the idea seemed doubtful to me. A description of the current Beeline promotion with Alcatel PIXI 4, and at the same time the characteristics of the device can be viewed on the Beeline website.

The Chinese company TCL (owns the Alcatel brand) has invented a kind of “group” naming system for its products, completely different models have the same name Alcatel PIXI 4, which probably causes confusion. The entire PIXI 4 group is positioned as "smartphones for inexperienced users." There is an Alcatel PIXI 4 with a 4-inch screen, there is an Alcatel PIXI 4 with a 5-inch screen (our test subject), there is a 6-inch screen, and there is another Alcatel PIXI 4 with a 6-inch screen, but without LTE support. Here is a zoo of devices with the same name.

The traditional section for those who want to immediately understand whether it makes sense to read the review to the end. The "Specifications" section does not reflect individual features, and there are plenty of these "features" in this device. Just in case, let me remind you: for some of the photos there are versions in higher resolution, available by click.

4G works well, clings to the network quickly and holds on to it confidently. There are no complaints about the data transfer rate. There is a slot for a microSD memory card. Simcard two, microSIM. The first slot is locked for Beeline, the second without restrictions, but also without 4G support. If necessary, the lock (SIM-lock) can be removed, for this you need to visit the Beeline salon and write an application. The unlock code is usually sent in a few days.

AnTuTu benchmark assigned 17,017 virtual "parrots" to the device. For modern devices, even of this class, this is already not enough, and heavy games, most likely, will only run on “humane” settings.

Saved on the display, it is not IPS. However, the colors are bright, and distortion occurs only when rotated in a vertical plane, and for some reason only in one direction. A resolution of 854 x 480 with a pixel density of less than 200 ppi is not enough for comfortable work, fuzzy fonts and thin lines are noticeable to the eye. The margin of brightness is decent, and in sunny weather the display is read well. But there is no auto-adjustment of brightness, only manually.

The main camera is 8 MP without autofocus, the pictures are frankly bad, despite all these megapixels. It makes sense to shoot only in good weather. The same applies to the 5 MP front camera. But the front camera has its own separate flash. With color reproduction tolerable, but nothing more. There is a blue LED event indicator.

There is no separate multimedia speaker, which is good and bad at the same time. The voice during a conversation is transmitted perfectly and without distortion (for a voice, the power margin is solid), but for a call it is not enough, it is clearly quiet. When playing a video, this is not so critical (the speaker “looks” directly at you), but you can not hear calls in noisy places.

Noise reduction during a conversation works (two microphones). The headset is included. 3.5mm jack is standard. The removable 2,000 mAh battery lasts a full day of moderate use, but nothing more.

For its 5-inch screen, the smartphone does not look thick. Grams of weight designers obviously did not win, and the device in the hand feels massive (169 grams). Assembled with high quality, but upset the back without coating and even without a notch on the surface. There are several color options, otherwise the design is “none”.

Positioning

Everything is simple with him: a device for those who want a large screen and support for the modern 4G standard. And all this for the lowest possible fee. The 5 MP front camera with flash can also work as a “lure”. Probably, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system will also be an additional plus for someone.

It seemed to me that for most girls the device is too heavy. At the same time, externally, the smartphone is uninteresting, despite the different color options.

Equipment and design

Complete set: smartphone, connection cable, wired headset, quick start guide, safety information, warranty card. I didn't have the user manual. Either they forgot to put it in, or they considered it an excess. Charger for output current 0.55 A (!!). I hope that there is a 2 A charger on the farm, with a standard adapter, the smartphone is fully charged for five to five and a half hours. Thank you for not saving on the headset, now it is increasingly not included in the bundle of budget smartphones.

Already wrote about the thickness and weight. The device with classically rounded corners looks completely ordinary without any special features and design frills. The choice of back cover colors is rich, which somewhat compensates for the ordinary appearance.

Pay attention to the white device. It is this option that is interesting in that the front panel is also white and the smartphone does not give the impression of a standard one, on which they simply put on a cover of a different color.

Design features

There are no questions about assembly. Everything is tight, without cracks, does not move. In one review, I read about a slight crunch in my hands when squeezing, so I squeezed the device from the heart, everything is in order. It is possible that one of the latches did not fully fit into place during assembly with the author of the review, this happens. The back cover is not pressed through. There is no backlash of buttons.

The layout is standard - "tray". The battery is removable, the camera eye almost does not protrude beyond the dimensions. Only a fraction of a millimeter of metal edging that protects the glass of the camera eye from scratches. There is no separate multimedia speaker, and accordingly, there are no additional holes in the back cover. Thanks to the use of the voice speaker as a universal speaker, even when the phone is lying on a soft surface, the sound is not muffled.

With the design of the speaker, I misunderstand something. If you already decided to abandon the special multimedia speaker and make the voice one universal, then how could you hide this speaker under a slot less than 1 mm wide, and then close this slot with a metal plate with tiny holes? How can sound break free through all these barriers? If they made the gap three times wider and covered it with a thin mesh, there would not be hundreds of complaints about a too quiet call.

The second microphone (for noise reduction during a call) is in the upper left corner next to the standard 3.55 headphone or headset jack. As I already wrote, there are no complaints about the sound during a call, but the volume of the call is insufficient.

The buttons are silvery "metal-like" and protrude just right. The power button and the volume rocker are both on the right side, but the keystroke is short and clear, their “joint” placement does not interfere with taking screenshots. I remember that with some smartphone I cursed all over, it was possible to take a screenshot with the buttons next to it only on the third or fifth attempt.

All three control buttons are soft, they saved on the backlight, it is not there. In the twilight, they are poorly visible, in the dark at first it’s quite a disaster. Then you get used to it, it's not fatal. But there is an LED event indicator that helps save battery power. Remember how many times a day you turn on the screen just to check if you missed something important. It is a pity that the indicator is single-color (light blue) and you can focus only on the presence / absence of its blinking. By the way, many programs allow you to set the blinking frequency of the indicator, this is a “note to the hostess”.

Display

The screen, unfortunately, is not IPS. 5 inches, TFT-TN, 16.78 million colors, 854 x 480, pixel density 196 ppi. You can see the level of graininess in the picture above. Resolution of 854 x 480 with a pixel density of 196 ppi does not cause delight, I would like more. The matrix itself is not bad in its class and the colors are saturated. The white balance is more or less normal, although there is a slightly bluish tint. It's a shame that the smartphone does not use MiraVision technology, which allows you to perfectly adjust the color temperature, MiraVision would be very useful on this matrix.

The screen is responsive, but only responds to 2 simultaneous touches. The display gets dirty in moderation, but I strongly doubt the presence of an oleophobic coating, because the usual procedure for wiping the screen on a T-shirt on your own abdomen was not enough to remove dirt.

When the display is rotated in a vertical plane, the colors are distorted; when rotated in a horizontal plane, the effect is almost imperceptible. Moreover, in the vertical plane, the slope of the upper part of the device towards itself is critical. Simply put, if you are going to watch a video together, then it is better for the first viewer to sit directly opposite the screen, and the second - to the right of the first, and not to the left.

cameras

There are two cameras: the main 8 MP without autofocus and the front 5 MP, also without it. The description on the Beeline website indicates the presence of autofocus, but this is either a mistake, or this “autofocus” does not work. The third version - they adjusted the technical conditions for financial reasons and put the cheapest one that could be found. There is no point in guessing, the end result is important. And the result is not happy for us.

There is a flash in one LED on both cameras (on the front one too), this is advertised on the box and the factory sticker, they consider it a competitive advantage. The flashes are weak, and there is almost no sense from the flash of the main camera. The frontal flash will somehow illuminate the face, but it is still better not to show the result to anyone.

A traditional "advertising" shot of a playground, taken in excellent lighting conditions. The white balance is more or less ok, but the sharpness is unimportant even in ideal shooting conditions. And this is 8 MP! My mid-budget Samsung shot better on my 2 MP camera six years ago (also without autofocus).

Even in a well-lit hall of the shopping center, the white balance “leaves”, and unpredictably, more often towards greenery. Sharpness is also sad, higher is one of the relatively successful samples, others were worse.

Another indoor shot. Do not think that I managed to use one of these advertised "delicious and inexpensive" products. I didn’t use it, and my hands didn’t tremble.

Trying to photograph documents is almost useless. Something in fairly large print on A4 sheet can still be difficult to read, choosing the best result from several attempts. Small text (see right, brochure size 10 x 12 cm) there is no point in even trying to shoot.

You know, I like to tinker with the camera of an inexpensive smartphone and look for the right approach to it, it's interesting. Usually it is possible to find obvious weaknesses, learn how to “go around” these problems and get an acceptable result. But here it’s even reluctant to mess around and, most likely, it’s useless.

Of course, something can be photographed with such a main camera of as much as 8 megapixels. For example, close-ups from a distance of one and a half to two meters in good light conditions can look good.

Large (20 x 20 cm) and bright car stickers also turned out to be quite readable. By the way, they are now traded at a big discount. Is it possible to save a pack of two or three for a penny by 2018, what if a small business suddenly burns out?

The front camera is even worse. No wonder, it's "only" 5 megapixels! I am increasingly visited by thoughts that this is some kind of planned sabotage of manufacturers. The numbers in the descriptions are beautiful, but a person will suffer for a couple of months with these pseudo-megapixels, then he will go to the salon for a device of a higher class and will be happy without any super-flagships. This concludes the conversation about cameras. Yes, I almost forgot to write: the device shoots videos with a resolution of 1280 x 720.

Benchmarking and sensors

Serious gamers are of little interest in the numbers of benchmarks of inexpensive smartphones. It is clear that the heaviest and resource-intensive games are written for top models. But still it is useful to navigate and understand what we have the right to expect when buying.

The AnTuTu rating is 17017 virtual parrots, see the screenshot on the right for comparison with other devices. It is not worth comparing with the flagship leaders, these are different weight categories. But personally, I didn’t like the fact that the Beeline Fast smartphone, which was sold three months ago, showed much better performance in the form of 23275 parrots. Despite the fact that this "Beeline Fast" was the twin brother of the current Alcatel PIXI 4 (5) in terms of size and display resolution, and their other stuffing is almost the same. Those who wish can read our March review of Beeline Fast.

Processor, memory and display according to AnTuTu. The specified pixel density (240 ppi) is an optimistic joke, far from reality. In fact, and taking into account the screen diagonal of 5 inches, this is 196 ppi. Otherwise, everything corresponds to the declared data. You should also remember that the indicated amount of internal memory of 8 GB does not take into account the space occupied by the operating system and other add-ons. In ideal cases (pure Android without add-ons), a little more than 4 GB will remain free for us, in the case of Alcatel PIXI 4, this is 3.6 GB of space. An optional 32GB microSD card is a must-have accessory.

Sensors present. There is nothing to look at in the list, but it was necessary to make sure of this “nothing”, agree.

About software update

I read a lot of complaints about the software from those who bought a smartphone at the beginning of sales. Most of the complaints are “little things”, but there were serious complaints. For example, to one-way audibility in communication programs. At the end of June, a software update was released for the smartphone, and, as far as I understood, most of the problems were eliminated. The update "arrives" within 1-3 days after the activation of the smartphone, and I would advise you not to make hasty conclusions before it arrives on the purchased device.

Impressions from work

Let's start with the little things that almost half of those who bought this device complain about: a painfully long time to fully charge the battery. They write that up to 5 hours. No wonder, the complete adapter gives a current of only 0.55 A maximum. Very strange. It seemed to me that the complete adapter in the box with a smartphone for a current of less than 1.0 And the last time I saw a few years ago. From the adapter to 2.0 And our Alcatel PIXI 4 is charged, as it should be, in two and a half hours. After all, the smartphone itself controls the charging current, which still won’t take too much, and it’s unclear why it was “put on a diet” of a maximum current of 0.55 A.

As for the battery capacity, for a device for two SIM cards, with 4G support and a 5-inch screen, 2000 mAh is not enough. Despite the fact that the manufacturer is unlikely to greatly limit itself in size and weight, this can be seen from the size and weight of the device. The difference between 2000 and 2500 mAh seems to be small, but often turns out to be decisive in the question of whether a smartphone will survive on a full charge until the evening.

Another strange feature is the non-linearity of the display. My smartphone ate the last 25% of the charge in 20 minutes of not very active use, then grunted and turned off after another minute. Apparently, it will take two or three full charge / discharge cycles to calibrate the counter. If it doesn't help, then this phenomenon will turn out to be another source of complaints from annoyed users.

Now about data transfer. I (and not only me) have always liked Alcatel radio units for their good sensitivity and behavior in general. Our Alcatel PIXI 4 did not disappoint in this sense either. Switches between 4G / 3G quickly, holds on to 4G well. Sensitivity is also good.

It is clear that the speed depends primarily on the network, but the smartphone is not shy about taking what is given by the network. Once I was simply surprised: in the Moscow Beeline 3G network at a distance of half a kilometer from the base station, with obstacles in the form of houses and a triple-glazed window, the smartphone gave out 25 Mbps. I wish it was always and everywhere like this, "but this is fantastic, son."

With speeds in the Beeline 4G (LTE) network, it is also very good, 40-45 Mbps. But here the signal was better (BS is closer), plus a day off. In fact, almost no one needs all these "Olympic records" of speed. More important is stable operation without fading and fast response time. In this sense, LTE is much nicer than 3G, and it is not rational to buy a smartphone without 4G support. Unless you are sure that you will change the device to another new one before a 4G network appears in your region.

The screenshot above is a smartphone access via Wi-Fi from a home Internet router. A symmetrical channel of 20 Mbps (we don’t need it anymore at home), it’s good to use it to check different devices. In this scenario, there are no complaints about Alcatel PIXI 4, I observe exactly the same numbers on other devices connected to the home Internet via Wi-Fi.

With the distribution of Beeline mobile Internet via Wi-Fi, the smartphone coped successfully and without much loss, the average decrease in speed is about 10% compared to direct measurement on Alcatel PIXI 4. Of course, this is at a distance of 5-7 meters, with increasing distance, the effectiveness of such distribution falls quickly.

Other little things

Details that were noticed in the process of mastering this high-tech masterpiece. I hope that it will be useful to someone.

  • After restarting or turning it off / on, in about 33% of cases I got an alarm message “SIM card not detected!”. And the advice is to urgently check the presence of a SIM card in the device. Do not rush to immediately pick off the cover, in a few minutes the desired sim card will materialize without your participation.
  • The data transfer indication, along with the corresponding H / H + / 4G icon, can sometimes disappear for 10 minutes, but Internet access continues to work normally. This is a problem of the category "Do you want to checkered or go?", Do not pay attention.
  • It is impossible to "fix" the device in the "4G-only" mode. Indeed, there is an "Auto" mode (4G/3G/2G), a "No 4G" mode (3G/2G), as well as "3G-only" and "2G-only" modes. There is no 4G-only mode. This is not a defect, the solution looks logical: without VoLTE (voice transmission in LTE networks), voice calls in 4G-only mode will not work. The smartphone must first of all provide voice communication, and the unavailability of the “4G-only” mode can be considered “foolproof”.
  • To "treat" a quiet call on the forum, it is advised to download and put on a call a melody in mp3 louder and more cheerful. Write what helps.

Summary

As a budget solution with a large screen, the device is acceptable. Provided that you photograph little and rarely. For active use of the Internet, a smartphone is not bad. For the rest, see for yourself. Not for everyone, the listed shortcomings will turn out to be critical, but they should be soberly assessed in advance, even before buying the device.
