Hello dear users! The topic of today's article will be - speeding up and simplifying the use of a computer keyboard. I want to note that the key combinations listed below are not all the features of the hot keys function, since certain combinations are used in each program.

The standard Windows methods for switching between active audio devices are inconvenient. From version to version comfort is not added. You need to open "Playback Devices", select an audio device from the list and make it work by default. You can also switch the device in the volume mixer window. Such solutions are controversial from the point of view of convenience and aesthetics.
Installing and configuring Audio Switcher
Audio Switcher is a free audio device switcher focused on speed of use. When creating it, the developers did not take care of the packaging: the program does not shine with beauty, but you will quickly forget about it, because you will not have to see the interface.
Download Audio Switcher from the official site. After the download is complete, open the .ZIP archive and copy the only AudioSwitcher.exe file to a convenient location. Installation completed! Run the file, the program icon will appear in the system tray. Right-click on the icon, select Open Preferences and set up the pre-configuration.
We recommend checking the box Start when Windows starts. This feature allows a program to automatically start when you log on to Windows. We suggest ticking Show Default Playback Device icon in tray. The icon of the active device will hang in the tray. Check Start minimized so that the program does not remind you of itself when it starts.
After completing the pre-configuration, open the Playback tab and specify which device will work by default. Now you can switch between headphones and speakers with just two clicks:
- right-click on the Audio Switcher icon in the notification area;
- select the desired device in the pop-up list.
Audio Switcher supports the use of hotkeys. Each device can be assigned its own combination or choose a common one to switch between them.
In the near future, the developers are going to release Audio Switcher 2.0. The new version will provide users with an improved interface, translation into various languages of the world, support for JavaScript-based scripts, the ability to configure automatic program operation (for example, turn on speakers when watching a movie, and headphones when starting music) and color themes. The program is automatically updated, so it will be difficult to miss the release of version 2.0.

How to switch between windows?
The computer is capable of running multiple applications at the same time. Each of them displays its own window. The icons for these windows are displayed on the Taskbar.
To switch between running programs, you can click on their icons on the Taskbar.
There is another way.
Press key alt and while holding it, press the key Tab. With each press of it, the computer will alternately switch between all running programs.
In this case, a menu with icons of running programs will appear on the screen. When the next time you press a key Tab the icon of the program you want will be highlighted, release both keys.
You will be taken to the window of this application.
Note.
Similarly, you can press the key Windows and while holding it, press the key Tab. At the same time, a very beautiful sight will unfold on the screen instead of a modest menu with icons!

When you have dozens of windows open, switching between them can be inconvenient. However, you can always make the work a little more comfortable.
Key switching
In Windows operating systems, there is a special keyboard shortcut that allows you to quickly switch between windows. This combination is Alt + Tab. However, it works a little unusual in comparison with other hot cases. Pressing this combination once will move you between the last two active windows, and holding the Alt key and pressing and releasing the tab key will select any of the open windows in sequence. To go to the window, simply release the Alt key.
If there are too many windows open and you accidentally skipped the one you need by pressing Tab while holding Alt, then simply add the Shift key to the combination - in this case, the selection of the active window among the open ones will be carried out in the opposite direction.
Another way to switch between windows from the keyboard is the combination Win+Tab. In some versions of Windows, these keys open a 3D window selection interface, and in Windows 10 they open what's called "Task View" (which may also have a button on the Taskbar). This view shows all open windows, which can be simply selected with the mouse.
Also, through the "Task View" you can add additional virtual desktops and transfer open windows between these tables. In some cases, this greatly facilitates the work - some of the cases are located on one desktop, some of the cases are on the other. The number of virtual desktops can be up to a hundred.
Convenient window arrangement
Often, when working, it would be nice to have several windows in front of your eyes at once. In this case, the question arises of their convenient location relative to each other. And the option of overlapping one window with another is definitely not suitable here. Windows allows you to quickly arrange windows on equal parts of the screen, splitting the workspace into two or four parts.
Simply grab the application window by its title bar with the cursor and drag either to the edge of the screen or to one of the corners. By bringing the cursor to the edge of the monitor, the window will automatically take up either half of the space (when brought to the edge) or a quarter (when brought to the corner). For convenience, it is immediately suggested to select the next active window, which will automatically take the dimensions for the location next to it. You can switch between such windows simply by moving the mouse cursor, and often there is simply no need for switching itself - it is enough that the information we need is already in front of our eyes.
Switch between office documents
If you are actively working with office documents in Microsoft Office applications, then you may like the developers' solution for quickly switching between windows. When working with Word text editor, Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations, look at the "View" tab, where there is a button called "Go to another window". By clicking on it, you will open a list of open files in the application of the same name. Just click on the name of the one you need to make it active.
In principle, the same can be done on the regular Taskbar by clicking on the application icon. But someone may be distracted by extra animation in Windows, especially if there are really a lot of open windows. Therefore, a "dry" list with the names of open documents may be more convenient.
If you learn to work without a mouse in Microsoft Windows, using the keyboard for everyday tasks, you can significantly increase your productivity. In addition, there are situations when the mouse suddenly stops functioning, and you have to work at the computer without it. The sections below contain many useful key combinations used to control Windows using the keyboard.
Note
Some of these keyboard shortcuts don't work in Windows 8, 8.1, and 10, or work differently.

Text document management and movement in it.
Below are various methods for manipulating a text document without using the mouse. Not only does this help users who don't have access to a mouse, it can also save you a lot of time when working on word processing documents.
- Arrow keys - Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, you can move up, down, right, or left through the text.
Ctrl and Arrow Keys - Pressing the Ctrl key together with the right or left arrow keys will move the cursor one word to the left or right at a time. Scrolling the window down or up is achieved in the following ways: moving Up and down with the cursor keys, PageUp and PageDown to move one page up or down.
