Today I want to tell you about the addition to the G-shock family, the GA-100 model was announced in January of this year, quite recently. It is not a flagship, as far as I understand, Riseman is still the most-very model. First of all, it's about functionality - barometer, altimeter, sensors and other buzzwords. But, as it seems to me, G-shock in the first place is an aggressive appearance, immunity to an aggressive external environment, the ability to perform all sorts of ordinary operations without removing the watch. Also, G-shock is kind of a "trick". Gadget. Which is why I love them. It turned out interesting - I liked one of the first models of 2010 very much, and not at all for the functions.
Appearance
One of the trends for 2010 is an increase in caliber. And this applies not only to the diameter of the watch. The strap has become wider. That's good, there should be a lot of "ji-shock". Another good innovation is that the GA-100 does not have a lot of flashy details of an incomprehensible purpose. They have a fairly simple and understandable form. I really like that there are no red or white inscriptions on the black watch. Due to this, the model does not look clumsy, simple and interesting. Black watch is called GA-100-1A1DR, white watch is called GA-100A-7ADR. The line also has a yellow model and variations of black with other colors (black and red). There are five hours in total.
The model is addressed primarily to men, if only because of the size. On a woman's hand, they are unlikely to look normal. Still, it is 55x51x16.9 mm, the GA-100 weighs about 70 grams. The hand is not pulled. It seems to me that due to the increase in the width of the strap, these watches do not cause problems when worn, you can live with them all day. Unlike Riseman, the plastic of the strap is soft, which is nice.

Back to appearance. I liked the white hands with a kind of perforation, in addition to the main one, there is an additional small hand. It doesn't make much sense, but it's beautiful. The screw heads left on display look authentic, of course, there are no problems with assembly. The press release calls the watch massive, also mentions three-eye design - three indicators at the top of the dial. The history of the "three-eyed" began in 1990, when the DW-5900 model was released. In a black watch and the dial is black, by and large, in the foreground there are only arrows, you can view the information on the displays only if you want. This I mean that the information is not presented intrusively and does not distract from the main thing. Using Riseman, it often happens like this: you glance at your watch and seem to see the time, but you instantly forget what time it is. True, here and in another matter, the arrows are in any case more informative. At least for me.

The watch is quartz, according to the manufacturer, the charge is enough for two years of work. I can’t check this information yet (smiley).
Protection
Like any other G-shock, GA-100 are protected from shocks, falls, dives (here - to a depth of 200 meters). You can use them at the gym, while traveling, if you have an active lifestyle or work. The buttons are large, with notches, two on each side of the case. They are convenient to use, you can deal with them without instructions, especially if you have already used G-shock before. It is possible to set the backlight to automatically activate when the wrist is turned, it has been tested, it works very well.
Time display in 48 cities of the world (29 time zones), stopwatch, timer - all these are standard functions, everything is clear with them. An interesting feature is the presence of an alarm clock, you can set five signals for different events. The sound is not loud, this alarm clock did not wake me up in the morning. But it may well remind you of something during the day. The assigned symbol is displayed on the upper left display, in the same place - an indicator of the switched on automatic backlight, an activated signal that sounds at the beginning of each hour.
In general, this is just a watch, not a multifunctional Swiss knife like Riseman, but just a mechanism for determining the time. I must say, a very reliable and durable mechanism.

I liked the look of this model; increased caliber, simplified, not pretentious design benefited G-shock. It is very good that this is a watch with arrows, but the price is even more pleasing - you can buy the GA-100 as in the review for 4400 - 5000 rubles. For daily wear or for use in the gym or for outings anywhere - a good option. The only thing I didn't like was the lighting. Although such a trifle can be easily reconciled. Backlight
In any mode, press the “B” button to turn on the backlight.

Changing the backlight duration

Button layout

Now setting up the G-Shock GA-100 will be much easier if you remember how we labeled all the buttons. Since, we will first configure its digital part, and then we will get to the analog one.
Setting up the digital part
To switch to real-time mode, it will be enough to press the button D, which will also help us switch display modes of time and current date on the display. First of all, we just set the date and time, for which we need to perform a number of the following steps:
1. Press the button for 3 seconds BUT until the area code starts flashing.

5. To enable daylight saving time in your mode, press the button D, so that the indicator displays "DST ON".
6. In the time format selection mode, use the button again D, focusing on the PM indication, which indicates the twelve-hour format.
7. To select the desired city code in the corresponding mode, use the buttons AT and D.
8. Setting the duration of the backlight is carried out by the button D.
This watch model has only two backlight duration modes: 1.5 seconds (LT1) or 3 seconds (LT3).
9. At the end of all settings, you must hold down the button BUT. This action will return you to the current time mode.
Another important point: if you do not make anything in the settings mode for a long time, the clock will automatically return to the current time mode.
Setting up analog time
Now let's make sure that the arrows show the current time. As a rule, the hands themselves adjust to the set digital time, but if this does not happen or the time is different, we proceed according to the following plan:
- Press and hold the button D until we see the H-SET indicator (upper left corner) and Sub (upper right corner) on the screen.
- It is important to check that the speed hand points to the 12 o'clock position. If this does not happen, press the button again D. As the arrow returns to its position, press With.
- Now we check the position of the hour and minute hands, which should be at the 12 o'clock position. If they are in a different position, use the buttons AT and D move them to their original position.
- It remains to synchronize digital and analog time with the button BUT. In this case, the hour and minute hands will show the current time, and the speed hand will move to 0.

- Press "Mode" to switch to summer/winter time selection mode. Deactivate the automatic switching function using the "Forward" key.
- Use the "Mode" button to select the time display format. Set to 12 hour or 24 hour format. Switching between them is done using the "Forward" key.
Then go to setting seconds. They can be reset to "0" by pressing "Forward". - Setting the minutes, hours and date is done in a similar way - switching to the mode with the "Mode" key and setting a specific parameter with the "Forward" button.
The last thing to adjust is the backlight duration. After that, press the "Adjust" key and wait until the hands are in line with the electronic time.
Other modes
Model GA-100 has four alarm clocks. Setting the call time on them is done as follows:
- Using the "Mode" key, select the "Alarm" mode.
- Hold down the "Reverse" button until the indicator starts blinking.
- Use "Mode" to set the time.
- Press "Reverse" to turn on the alarm. The same button is used to turn it off.
The timer and stopwatch do not require settings and are started with the "Forward" key.
You can turn on the automatic backlight by holding the "Reverse" button. When the watch is tilted 40 degrees, it will fire, illuminating the screen with an LED.
