How to change the time of day in Photoshop. Changing the time of day in the photo

The possibilities of Photoshop are endless: with this program you can create luxurious renderings, the desired atmosphere, emphasize the mood of the picture or completely transform it. It is far from always necessary to spend hours or even days on processing one photo - often a few minutes and knowledge of several techniques in Photoshop is enough.

You will learn how:

Getting rid of the "ladders" in the gradient

Often the use of a gradient leaves behind "ladders" - color transitions visible to the naked eye. Many designers have no idea how to get rid of them, although there is a simple and quick way. First, change the image mode from 8-bit to 16-bit in the tab Image / Image... Convert the layer to a smart object, if it is not, you can do this in the tab Filters / Filters... Find the item here Blur / Blur and turn on Surface Blur... Move the sliders to achieve the result that suits you.

If there are several sharp transitions left after blurring, create a new layer with the key combination Ctrl + Shift + N, in the window that opens, select the mode Overlap / Overlay and check the box next to the function Fill with Overlay-neutral color... Open the tab Filters / Filters, Choose a section Noise and turn on the tool Add Noise... In the window that opens, set the value that will help to hide the remaining transitions.

How to make the gradient softer

How to create a sunburst effect

To add the rays of the sun to the image, first you need to select the lightest areas of the picture - it is from there that the sun will shine. The easiest way to do this is with a tool Color Range.

When the tool window opens, select the mode in the first drop-down list Backlight / Highlights... Then move the parameter slider Dispersion / Fuzziness left and focus on the parameter Range / Range... You need to make sure that the lightest areas of the image are selected.

As soon as you press the "OK" button, the program will select the necessary areas by itself - copy them to a new layer using the command Ctrl + J and convert the layer into a smart object. Go to the tab Filters / Filters, select Blur / Blur and then - Radial Blur... In point Blur Method put Linear / Zoom and set the parameter Quantity / Amount to the maximum. In a small window on the right, the program will show how the blur will be positioned - it is very important to correctly mark the center, which should coincide with the light source.

To make the rays more saturated, it is enough to duplicate the layer using the command Ctrl + J the required number of times. Select all created layers, right-click on them in the list of layers and select the item Convert to Smart Object... Now all that remains is to add a little blur: go to Blur Gallery and select the tool Field Blur- with its help you can adjust the degree of blurring in different parts of the layer.

If you want to make the image more realistic, try different layer overlay effects; you can also create a mask and remove some rays from the image using the tool Brush Tool... To make the picture even more attractive, you can create a fill layer, set its opacity to about 3-5%, or experiment with the tool Curves.

How to create a sunburst effect in Photoshop

An unusual way to control brightness with Curves

Everyone who works in Photoshop uses the tool Curves, but few people know what the horizontal Curve, but its use is one of the simplest and most convenient techniques in Photoshop.

To test a new way of using the tool, open any image, create an adjustment layer Hue / Saturation, lower the parameter Saturation to the minimum and put the layer in blending mode Soft Light... Then create a layer with Curves, apply it to the saturation layer by Alt-clicking on it and make a neat horizontal curve. Select the hand icon on the panel Curves and click on the fragment, the brightness of which does not suit you - now you can easily control the light and dark areas of the image with the mouse, without affecting the shades.

The horizontal curve is a convenient way to control brightness without affecting hues

Making the sky richer

Open the desired image in Photoshop and create a new fill layer on top of it. Set the color to a darker shade of the sky. Now make it so that the layer with the color remains only in the sky - turn on the mask and go through the required areas with Brushes / Brush Tool... Then go to Blending Options- we are interested in the settings Blend, if... Move the cursor to the arrow next to the parameter Underlying Layer and click on it while holding down the Alt key - the arrow will be divided into two parts, moving which, you can achieve the desired effect. If you overdid it and the sky is too saturated, you can always change the opacity of the layer.

It's easy to create dramatic effects

How to create the rain effect

Photoshop already has a special function for creating a rain effect, you just need to find it. Go to the tab Window / Window, select item Operations / Actions, and then - Image Effects... In the list that opens, find the tool Light Rain, select it and click the arrow at the bottom of the window. The program will create the effect itself, but you can correct it manually.

The rain effect can be created in a couple of minutes

Changing the time of day in a minute

First, create an adjustment layer. Color Lookup, in the tool settings find the file NightFromDay.CUBE- the image will already change colors. Then create a new adjustment layer Gradient Map... Among the gradients you need to find Blue1 / Blue1 or create the one you need yourself. After the gradient layer is created, change its Blending Mode to Soft Light... It remains only to correct the image using the tool Curves.

Step 1 ... Open the Kanazawa Samurai Houses image in Photoshop. Double click on the background layer to unlock it, name it Plate... Move the image down a little.

Since this image will only be used on the web, I suggest you set it to 72 ppi. To do this, go to the menu Image> Image Size(Ctrl + Alt + I) and set the Resolution field to 72. Make sure you have the Resample Image option turned off to preserve the image quality. It's also a good idea to check that you have RGB mode set (in our case, this is already the case). And don't forget to save your work after every step you take.

Step 2. Now grab your tool Lasso Tool (L), or Polygonal Lasso Tool and outline the outlines of the houses and their roofs, capturing also two street lamps. Use your imagination to imagine where the roof edges are hidden behind the trees. Zoom in on the image as needed to make the selection more precise.

When the selection is done, invert it Select>(Shift + Ctrl + I) and while on a layer Plate, click on the mask icon at the bottom of the layers palette to add a mask to the layer.

Go to the layer mask and use a hard black brush to touch up the areas for which it is necessary. Since the area of the image that we masked is bright enough, create a new layer, fill it with black and place it below the Plate layer. This will help you see and cut out small details better. However, do not be too zealous, since we will redraw most of the roof contours later.

Step 3. Duplicate the layer Plate and name its copy Plate Backup. Place the copy layer below the layer. Plate and hide its visibility. We made a backup copy in case something didn't work out when processing the layer.

Open the filter Filter> Vanishing Point(Alt + Ctrl + V). While in this filter, grab the tool Create Plane Tool (C) (Create Plane) and create a grid of four main points to match the perspective of the street. Then using the tool Stamp Tool (S), remove the bottom of the person and the gutters. This tool works similarly to the Clone Stamp tool, except that it takes the selected perspective into account when cloning. We use it to preserve the perspective of the street.

Translator's note. As with the regular Clone Stamp tool, hold down the Alt key to sample for cloning.

After you are done, close the filter window, pick up the tool Clone Stamp and remove the rest of the upper part of the person. I also removed the blue object I did not like between the left wall and the house, the tree leaves covering the far wall, and continued the roof of the right house, taking into account its perspective (see screenshot). By paying attention to all these small details, you can achieve a professional result.

Step 4. In this step, I deleted the black background layer, we will no longer need it. Load the image "Cherry Blossom Tree 2" and place it on the left side of the artwork. Name this layer Cherry Tree. Add a mask to the layer, and using a hard Brush black, paint over the bottom of the tree to make it look like it is behind a wall. Create adjustment layers Exposure and Levels, set the settings shown below, and create clipping masks for these layers (holding ALT, click the mouse between the adjustment layer and the layer Cherry tree). With this, adjustments will only be applied to the tree layer.

Step 5. Load the image "Japan Vacation XXI" and place it in the artwork, place this layer under the layer Plate... In accordance with the basic rules for building a composition, all the main visual lines in the image should not be in contact with each other. Therefore, make sure the mountain and the street lamp are positioned appropriately in relation to each other. If you want to learn more about the rules for building a composition, then the author of the lesson recommends an interesting one.

Note: on our site you can read a lesson about building a composition.

Step 6. Turning day into night.
As the work progresses, our file will become more and more voluminous. Because of this, we need to arrange our layers. Create a new layer group, name it Background, and put a layer in it Mountain(layer with a mountain). Create another group, name it Midground, and put the layers there Plate and Cherry Tree, as well as the created adjustment layers. Then create another layer group on top of all layers, name it Night adjustment... In this step, we will work with her.

The result of this step was obtained by trial and error. It is very important to determine where the light sources are. In our case, the light sources are the moon and two lanterns, so the rooftops, the mountain and the areas around the lanterns should be illuminated.
First I created an adjustment layer Exposure Decreased the exposure value, and painted over with black on the layer mask those areas that should not be affected by this adjustment layer. Then I created an adjustment layer, checked the Colorize option, gave it a blue tint and lowered the brightness value. Finally, I added another adjustment layer. Brightness / Contrast and reduced the brightness. As I said, in order to achieve the desired result, you need to try different correction options through trial and error until you get what you need.

After these corrections, you get the following result.

Step 7. While in a layer group folder Night adjustment, create a new shadow layer and name it Shadows... Take soft black Brush small diameter, zoom in and paint shadows behind the blocks on the left side of the alley. Then take a larger brush and darken the buildings in the foreground for a vignette effect. This technique will help draw attention to the main center of the composition.

Translator's note. Adjust the opacity of the brush to achieve the desired result.

Step 8. Download the "Moon Stars Sparkles" brush set and install them in Photoshop. Select the second brush from the set - full moon, set its diameter to 36 px and choose white. Use this brush to paint the moon on a new layer. Name the layer Moon and make sure you put it in a layer group Night Adjustment.

Step 9. Now while still in the layer group folder Night adjustment, create a new group for low beam and name it Nearest Light... Create a new layer in it, take a soft brush with a diameter of 190px, set the color to orange (I took the color FF911A) and click three times with the brush on the image. Then reduce the brush size to 140 px, set the color to white and double click in the center of the orange circle. It will turn out like this.

Set the blending mode for this layer Screen(Screen / Screen), 70% Opacity.
Duplicate the light circle layer, increase the size to 150% (open the Transform window by pressing Ctrl + T, then holding Shift and Alt, increase the size proportionally, look at the% scale value at the top in the settings bar).
Set the Opacity to 25% for this layer, make sure the Blending Mode is selected Screen(Lightening / Screen). Duplicate this layer, increase the size to 150%, and this time set the Opacity to 17%. Name the created layers Light1, Light2, Light3, place the entire group on top of the nearest lantern in the alley. Here's what you should get.

Now add mask to layer group Nearest Light, paint in mask mode with a black soft brush on the upper part of the light circle so that the light from the lantern is directed only downward.

Duplicate this group of layers, place the copy on the far lamp, scale it down to 40%, and name the new group Far Light. Using the same technique, adjust the brightness. Here's what you get as a result.

Step 10. After we are done with the three light sources, we need to show how their light affects the environment. Duplicate the layer Cherry tree, place the copy in a layer group Night adjustment on top of the rest of the layers in this group and name this layer Tree highlights, we will create lighting for the tree. Create an adjustment layer Photo Filter, select Warming Filter (85) (Warming filter 85), set its density to 100% and create a clipping mask to the layer with the tree (Alt + click between layers).

Duplicate the photo filter layer and change the blending mode to Color Dodge (Lightening the base), opacity 55%, place the layer under the previous layer with the photo filter. Create a new adjustment layer Hue and Saturation, set the value of Hue (Color tone) to -10 and Lightness (Brightness) to +15, place this layer above the rest of the adjustment layers. Set for layer Tree highlight blend mode Screen(Screen / Screen), Opacity 80%. Finally, fill the layer mask Tree highlight black, and a soft white brush of small diameter, being on the layer mask, paint on those branches of the tree, which should be illuminated by our light sources. Do not forget to zoom in on the previewed image to get a cleaner and better result.

Step 11. Let's go back to the layer Plate located in the layer group Midground... Create an adjustment layer Photo Filter, select Warming Filter (85), density 85%, check the Preserve Luminosity checkbox, create a clipping mask for this layer to the layer Plate(Alt + click between layers).

The use of a photo filter is a great way to realistically create reflections of the surrounding background color from various objects in your work. If you enable the Preserve Luminosity option, Photoshop will take into account how the given color interacts with the surrounding colors. For an artist, studying the interactions of colors and light takes years. Photoshop will help you with this, you just need to use its capabilities correctly.

To achieve the desired result, we positioned the layer Plate under the layers that turn the image into night (layer group Night adjustment), this allows Photoshop to consider how a lit pavement will look in a dark night environment. This way we will get a much more realistic result than if we just tried to add orange light on top of all layers.

Add mask to the layer with the photo filter, fill it with black, and using a soft white brush, being on the layer mask, paint over those parts of the ground and walls that should be illuminated by the light of the lanterns. You should get the following result.

Step 12. Now the work looks good already, but something main, eye-catching is missing. Adding the main object, the center of attention, to the work will make it more interesting and give it meaning. People, animals, various structures are well suited for this purpose, they allow the viewer to focus their gaze on them. Choosing the right focus will give your work depth, the right mood, personality and completeness.

Download the Hanami 20 girl image and open it in Photoshop. Separate the girl from the background in any way convenient for you, transfer it to your main work. Name the layer Woman, place it in a layer group with the same name, place this group on top of all layers, above the group Night adjustment.

Step 13. As you can see, the image with the girl is dominated by yellow, we need to fix that. We need to adjust both the light and dark tones of the image in order to fit the girl into the surrounding background. I used seven adjustment layers for this, added masks to them, on which I hid the areas we did not need. Take a look at the settings shown in the screenshots.

Step 14... Add to layer Woman(or to a group of layers) mask, and paint with black in mask mode part of the image to make it look like the girl is inside the doorway. Also create a layer below layer Woman for shadows, name it Shadow, and paint the girl's shadow with a soft black brush.

Step 15. The picture we created looks good, but a little flat. Add contrast to the image by creating an adjustment layer Curves on top of all layers with the following parameters.

As you can see, after turning our image into night, we almost lost the texture of the mountain. Let's restore it. To do this, download the Moss texture from the CGtextures website and place it in our document. Duplicate it three times and place the four resulting layers as shown in the screenshot. Merge these layers and name the resulting layer Mountain texture.

Find the layer Plate, do Ctrl + click on the layer mask to it to load the selection, invert the selection Select> Inverse(Shift + Ctrl + I) and being on the texture layer Mountain texture, add a mask (click on the mask icon).

Take the hard black Brush and paint it on layer mask extra texture in the sky. Then lower the opacity of the layer to 10% and set the blending mode to Difference (Difference). Create a layer group, name it Mountain texture and place your texture layer in it. Add a mask to the layer group, and paint over the lighted areas on the mask with a soft black brush so that the texture does not overlap with the lighting. Adding several masks to a layer at different levels (one to the layer itself, and the second to a group of layers) will allow you to manage them independently of each other. In our case, we can paint over the highlighted areas on the mask, without fear of changing another mask to the texture layer, taking into account the shape of the mountain. .

The texture on the mountain looks a little flat, let's add some perspective to it. Unhook the texture layer mask Mountain texture(click on the lock between the layer and its mask), select from the menu Edit> Transform> Distort or press Ctrl + T, then right-click on the image and select Distort (Distortion). Move the side anchor points to give the texture perspective. Unhooking a layer mask will allow you to transform the layer without changing the shape of its mask.

At this point, I lowered the opacity of the texture layer so that it doesn't stand out so much. Here's what happened as a result.

Step 17. Now download the Mordecai Brushes and install them in Photoshop. Select one of the tree brushes and set the following options in the brush preferences.

Take a color swatch from the clouds in the sky (hold Alt while using the tool Brush or use the tool Eyedropper Tool). Create a new layer, name Mountain highlight and draw small highlighted trees on the mountain. Place this layer above the layer group Mountain texture so that the mask to the layer group does not affect it.

Step 18. I would like the light from the moon to illuminate the clouds behind. For maximum realism, pick up photos of clouds with the desired backlighting for us. For this we can use the photos of the sky from the DeviantArt site. First download the Sky Stock 131 image, place it in your artwork, add a mask to the layer and, being in mask mode, remove unnecessary part of the clouds with a brush (in the brush settings, check the Scattered checkbox). Then reduce the size of the clouds layer and set its opacity to about 10%.

Repeat this process with other sky photos until you get a satisfactory result (you can find other photos of the backlit clouds from the same user on the DeviantArt website). You can add as many clouds to your work as you like. Zoom in on your work and pay attention to small details. When you're done, merge all the cloud layers and name the resulting layer Clouds Highlights and set it to blend mode Luminosity(Glow).

Step 19. Now our sky looks a little boring. Let's fix it. Hide the visibility of all layers except the group Background(to do this, hold down Alt and click on the eye icon next to the layer group Background). Download the Sky 8 sky image, put it into your artwork. Increase the size of the image to 105%. Make sure the layer is inside the layer group Background, above the mountain layer Mountain... Name this layer with sky. Cloud1... Create a group of layers for the sky (inside the group Background) and name it Skies, put a layer in it Cloud1.

Photoshop tutorial

Create a mask for the layer group so that the sky doesn't overlap with the mountain image. Hide layer visibility Cloud1, take the tool Magic Wand tool, or whatever tool is more convenient for you, and select the sky. Then, while on the layer group Skies, add a mask (click on the mask icon at the bottom of the layers palette). Bring back visibility to the layer Cloud1... You will get the following result.

Photoshop tutorial

Set the layer to Blending Mode Overlay(Overlay) and lower the Opacity to 30%.

Photoshop tutorial

Step 20. Let's make the sky even more interesting. Load the Sky stock 104 sky image, place it in the artwork, resize it to about 62% so that the layer is the same size as the artboard. Flip it horizontally with Edit> Transform> Flip Horizontal or press Ctrl + T, right-click on the image and select Flip Horizontal. Name the layer Cloud2... Set the blending mode Overlay(Overlay), Opacity 50%.

Photoshop lessons in Russian

After returning visibility to all layers, we get the following result.

Photoshop lessons in Russian

Step 21 At this stage, I found that the sky looks too bright and saturated for a night scene. Therefore, while still in the layer group Skies, add adjustment layers Hue / Saturation and Levels.

Translator's note. Pay attention to the layer masks, in the screenshots the areas hidden on the masks are shown in red.

Photoshop lessons in Russian

Step 22. Create a new layer and place it at the very top. Name it Leaves(leaves). Then using Brush) small diameter, 100% hardness, draw some crumbling leaves next to the tree. I took color samples from wood using the tool Eyedropper Tool... Try to paint the leaves in various, chaotic ways to achieve realism. Remember to consider the direction of light from light sources.

Photo lessons photoshop

Duplicate the layer just in case. Name the copy Blurred Leaves, turn off the visibility of the old layer. Blur the leaves layer by applying a filter. Filter> Blur> Motion Blur, set the angle -45 ° in the settings and the offset (distance) 4 pix.

Photo lessons photoshop

Step 23. This is the last step in which we will give the work a finished look and fix everything that does not suit us. Create a new layer and name it Final touches... Place it on top of all layers. On this layer, zoom in, take color swatches from suitable areas in your work and paint over the details that need to be corrected. Also add additional details to the image, such as people in the distance and buildings in the background. Take your time and pay close attention to these small details, this will allow you to achieve maximum believability. Art requires patience and perseverance. Take a look at the screenshots below, and also try to get a feel for what else needs to be finalized and improved.

Not as intended, this lesson is for you. You will learn how you can radically change the mood of a photo in just a few steps by adding a sultry sun, thick fog or drizzling rain. We took a panoramic landscape as a basis and decided to build a triptych out of it. We started by creating a completely black layer and placing it above the image. With the help of a mask, we cut out three frames in this layer, in which we will create various effects. This tutorial doesn't go without adjustment layers, blend modes and filters. Using Photoshop settings, you will learn how to create a rainbow and change the mood of a photo by manipulating lighting. Even if you just want to enhance the effect on the photo, the information will not be superfluous. Get to work!

Lab Color

First, make sure that we have a frame with three frames, as in the picture (see the previous page), then in the Image menu choose Mode> Lab Color. Draw a rectangle around the first image and add a new Curves adjustment layer below the first frame. By default, this layer will be active only for the left image.

Adjusting the levels

In the Curves layer select channel A and drag the bottom left point to the right to make the curve more steep. Now drag the top right point the same distance to the left. Repeat the same with the B channel, then in the Lightness channel make a curve in the shape of the letter S. Select the adjustment and background layers and merge them (Layer> Merge Layers). Convert back to RGB and when asked, choose the option not to glue the layers.

Add a glow

Create a new layer and select the area around the left frame. From the Edit menu choose Fill> 50% Gray. Change the Blend Mode of the layer to Overlay and then go to Filter> Render> Lens Flare. Place the center of the glow in the upper right corner and choose the setting to your liking (we have 50-300 mm Zoom). Click OK.

Turn on the sun

Place the sun in the center of the flash. Using the Elliptical Marquee Tool, draw a circle in the center of the flare. Create a new layer and choose white with a slightly yellowish tint. Fill the selection with this color, then from the Filter menu choose Blur> Gaussian Blur and set the size to 30 px.

Golden glow

Choose gray as the working color, and bright orange as the background. Create a new layer and select the left frame again. Using the Gradient Tool, draw a linear gradient from orange at the bottom to gray at the top. Change the layer's Blend Mode to Vivid Light to achieve a golden glow.

Desaturate

Select the middle frame with the Rectangular Marquee. Create a new layer Hue / Saturation. Reduce Saturation to -20. The selection area is used as a mask, so the changes will only affect the middle frame. Set the Lightness to -10 to make the image a little darker.

Rain

Now select the middle frame. In a new layer fill the selection with black. From the Filter menu, choose Noise> Add Noise. Then select Gaussian, Monochromatic, check Amount 200%. In the same Filter menu, find Blur> Motion Blur, set Direction to 75 °, and Distance to 20 px. Select Screen as the blending mode. Now in the Image menu, select Adjustments> Brightness / Contrast, mark Brightness -80, for Contrast, set +80.

Adjustment layers

Their functionality practically does not differ from the Image> Adjustments menu items. The only difference is that adjustment layers can be turned into masks, made visible and invisible, and subsequently changed their settings. This means that previous adjustments can be changed at any time. Adjustment layers are much more flexible than working through Image> Adjustments.

Getting to know photo filters

Shades are the key to mood At different times of the year, different shades and tones prevail. In summer, warm oranges, reds and golds are most common. In winter, of course, cold grays and blues predominate. The time of year and even the time of day in the photo can be changed by working with the color scheme. The easiest way to do this is in a Photo Filter adjustment layer. Try experimenting with the settings and the Density slider to add warmer or colder tones and convey the mood correctly.

The clouds are gathering

Select the middle frame, press D to switch colors. Create a new layer and go to Filter> Render> Clouds. To transform the layer, press Ctrl + T, hold down Ctrl, click with the mouse. Select Perspective from the menu, drag the upper right corner to the right to create the effect of clouds moving on the viewer. Blending mode - Screen. Add a layer mask with a gradient. Duplicate the layer to add density.

Rainbow

In a new layer, select the Gradient tool, type Radial. Open the Gradient Panel and hit Append. Select the Russell's Rainbow setting and paint a gradient on the layer. You may need to repeat the operation until you get what you want. Change the layer blending mode to Screen and use a mask to limit the area of the visible rainbow.

Darken

For a rainy day, we have suspiciously bright colors. Add a Levels adjustment layer on top of the clouds to darken them a little. Drag the midpoint of the levels to the right to darken the midtones and reduce the brightness of the clouds. Here you should be guided exclusively by your own intuition and sense of beauty.

Frost on the skin

There are many ways to "freeze" the earth, and moreover it is quite realistic. But here we will be filling almost the entire frame with falling snow, so we will use a simpler and faster method - the Gradient Map. Press D to switch colors, select the right frame and create a Gradient Map adjustment layer. Select the Black-to-White gradient and check the Reverse checkbox.

Changing the gradient

*** There are many ways to paint a gradient in Photoshop. The default is Linear, which transitions from one color to another in a straight line. If we want a Radial, as in the case of a rainbow, click on the second button in the Gradient Options panel. Other options are Angle, Reflected, and Diamond. You never know which one will come in handy, so you can experiment with everyone.

Snow

Create a new layer. Select the right frame and in the Filter menu choose Render> Clouds. Select a small area with an equal ratio of black and white pixels using the Marquee Tool. Now in the Edit menu select Transform and resize it to fit our photo. Now in the same Filter menu, look for Pixelate> Mezzotint. Select Coarse Dots and click OK. Add the Motion Blur effect in the same way as we did in the last frame.

In this tutorial, I'll show you how to create a mysterious night street scene in Photoshop. Learn how to create a night scene with a realistic lighting effect in Photoshop. Learn to combine multiple images into a single scene, and learn about advanced masking techniques. Follow the tutorial and learn how to improve your collage skills.

Please note: this is not a complete step-by-step tutorial, it is intended for more advanced users. I won't go over the basics, for this tutorial you should have a basic understanding of Photoshop.

Final image:

Step 1

First create a new document sized Width(Width) 2500 px and Height(Height) 1800 px. Place the image Street to the center of the document. You may have noticed that the street image is too narrow and, in order to fit it into our document, we need to add parts of the street in the empty areas. Below you can see how I placed the image:

Step 2

To fill in the empty spaces, duplicate the street twice and place all duplicates under the original layer. Then move the two duplicates left and right. You can see the location of the layers in the picture below, this is how I filled in the entire empty area.

Step 3

Now let's get into masking. Add a layer mask to each layer of the streets, and then try to achieve a smooth transition between each layer to make the street complete. In addition to masks, also use the tool Clone stamp(Stamp) (S) to clone some areas of the street on many separate layers, then press CTRL + ALT + SHIFT + E to get a complete picture of the street. Below you can see the result:

Step 4: adding the sky

Extract the sky with Pen Tool(Feather) (P) and add it here. Use if necessary Transform Tool(Free Transform) (Ctrl + T) to fit the sky to the street. Below you can see the results with a picture of the sky:

Step 5

Hue / Saturation(Hue / Saturation) Decrease the saturation and brightness of the sky. Below you can see the settings.

The result with a dark sky:

Step 6

Add some stars to the sky using the filters I shared the technique with in the Moonlight Fantasy tutorial. You can read this tutorial for a more detailed explanation. Below you can see the results with the stars added:

Translator's note: To create stars, create a new layer and fill it with black. In order to fill the layer, go to the menu Edit> Fill> Black(Editing> Run Fill> Black) or press Alt + Backspace (make sure the foreground color is set to black, otherwise install it just by pressing the D key). Name this layer Stars

Convert the Star layer to a Smart Object. Go to the menu Filter> Noise> Add Noise(Filter> Noise> Add) and use the following settings:

Result:

Now go to the menu Filter> Filter gallery(Filter> Filter gallery) and select a filter Plaster (Gypsum)to create stars. Use the following settings and rememberwhatthe more you increaseImage Balance (Tone balance), thethe stars become less visible. Install it according to your needs and click OK.

Result

To get rid of the black background, set the modeScreen (Screen)

Step 7

Darken the street with an adjustment layer Curves(Curves). Use this layer as a clipping mask (click on the icon highlighted in red). Below you can see the values.

On this layer mask, mask the effect of the adjustment layer on the top left side to keep this area bright, because then we will add the moon to be our light source there. To erase the effect, use a soft black brush with low opacity. Below you can see the result:

Step 8

Curves(Curves) but this time use Red(Red) and Blue(Blue) channels to add a combination of blue and cyan street tones.

Leave the effect on the left side of the street at the top and erase the curves from the rest of the street as in the previous step. Remember to use a soft black masking brush. Below you can see the result:

Step 9

Add an adjustment layer on top of all layers. ColorBalance(Color Balance) without clipping mask to add base color to the scene. Change the values Midtones(Midtones) and Highlights(Sveta).

Result:

Step 10

On a new layer paint large brush strokes with color # 134f62. The goal now is to make a light source there. In the image below you can see how I did it.

Set the blending mode to Color dodge(Base lightening) with Opacity(opacity) 100%, and you can see the results with a radiant light effect.

Step 11. Adding a lantern

Place the lantern image on the main scene as shown in the image below. Don't forget to use a Layer Mask to connect the lantern to the wall. You can refer to the direction arrow for reference.

Step 12. Adding the moon

Add an image of the moon to our main document. Change the Blending Mode for the moon to Screen(Screen) to get rid of the black background.

Step 13

On a new layer paint a glow around the moon using a soft white brush. Just draw a point of light on the moon to make it glow.

Step 14. Adding bushes

Add some bushes on the left side of the street. See the image below for reference.

Step 15

With an adjustment layer Curves(Curves) darken the leaves and change the color slightly using Green(Green) channel. The settings are shown below:

Result:

Step 16

Let's place the raven in the main document. Add an image Crow 1 on the right side and add another crow on the left, selected from Ravens PSD... Feel free to add them wherever you like.

Step 17 creating the lantern glow

On a new layer paint some light on the lantern to add a glow. Choose a dark yellow color (# 8B6433) to create the glow of the lantern. Below you can see how I painted the glow of the lantern:

Change the blending mode to Linear dodge(Linear Clarifier) with Opacity(Opacity) 100%, below is the result with a shining light effect:

Step 18

Using the same color paint the reflection of the street light, but this time change the Blending Mode to Color dodge(Lightening Basics). Don't forget to paint the light on a new layer. Below you can see the results:

Step 19

Likewise, paint the reflection of the light on the upper areas of the street using the same color we used in step 10. Below you can see where I drew the light:

Change the blending mode to Color dodge(Lightening Basics) with Opacity(opacity) 100%. Remember that you can change the layer's opacity to determine the amount of light you want to add.

Step 20

Using # a5a5a5 color paint fog on the street. This will make the scene hazy and mysterious.

Step 21

With an adjustment layer Hue / Saturation(Hue / Saturation) change the color of the fog. See settings below.

Result:

Step 22 final touches

Add an adjustment layer on top of all layers Gradient Map(Gradient Map) and use the default black and white gradient.

Change the blending mode Gradient Map(Gradient Map) on Soft light(Soft Light) and reduce Opacity(Opacity) up to 51%. This will add more contrast to the scene.

Step 23

Use an adjustment layer ColorBalance(Color Balance) to add more blues outdoors.

Result:

Step 24

You may have noticed that the adjustment layer ColorBalance(Color balance) added blue tones in the lantern area, which we don't need. He also reduced the glow of the lantern. To get rid of this, I masked the effect ColorBalance(Color balance) in the area highlighted in red.

Result:

Step 25

Apply another adjustment layer ColorBalance(Color Balance) and this time use it for the glow area of the lantern.

Last adjustment layer ColorBalance(Color Balance) is used to add blue tones to the scene, but this one is used for lantern lighting.
Leave the effect in the glowing area of the lantern and hide the rest of the effect. You can see the results here:

Step 26

In the final step, improve the lights and shadows of the scene using the tools Dodge & burn(Dodge / Burn). If you want to tweak the colors even further, you can use an adjustment layer. Selective Color(Selective color correction). Here's the final result:
