Notebooks with ruled sheets - naturally evoke in us associations of school years. However, the template of a ruled or squared sheet made in a text editor MS Word can be useful to you not only for writing lessons, but also for a host of other things when you have to "work" not only with the keyboard, but also with a regular ballpoint pen. Writing an application form by hand, making a sheet for a homemade notebook and similar actions - you must agree, it is much easier if the sheet is also equipped with a "ruler" that simplifies handwritten "data entry".

Three types of sheet ruler: in a ruler, in a cage and in an oblique ruler. Today we will learn how to do all three types in MS Word.

Making a lined A4 sheet in MS Word

Let's create a blank MS Word document and save it as a template in any convenient place on your computer. Let's go to the "Insert" tab and in the group “ Tables»We will use a well-known tool "Insert Table".

In the window that appears, set the following parameters:

  • Number of columns: 1 (strictly 1).
  • Number of cells: more (30-50 is fine).

Click "OK" and see what happened. As you can see, the contours of the future ruled are already visible, although, of course, it is still too early to send the document for printing.

Let's go to layout tab (it is active if the table we inserted earlier is selected), and in group "Cell size" increase the spacing between the lines of our ruler. I will expose the height lines of 1 centimeter, if you have a sweeping handwriting, you can make it larger, but do not accelerate too much - a height of 1.5 cm is already a bit too much.

If you use the default MS Word template, then it makes sense to also change - for a printed document they may be suitable, but for a handwritten document they are too big. Just stretch the rulers to the desired height and width and move on.

By the way - if you do not see the rulers, most likely they are simply disabled. Go to the "View" tab and check the corresponding box. The rulers will immediately appear in their rightful places!

Well, let's finish the work on the ruler of our sheet:

  • select the entire previously created table, right-click and select "Table Properties".
  • in the window that appears, on the first tab, click the "Borders and Fill" button.
  • turn off the display of the side borders of the table by clicking on the corresponding icons and click on "OK". Since there is only one column in our table, after this operation, only the ruler should remain on the sheet of the document - horizontal lines going one above the other, just like in a school notebook.

Almost everything is done!

If you run our lined A4 sheet for printing right now, the result may not please you - the lines will be barely visible. If you are going to use the ruler as a "reference line" when writing your letter, this is even better, but if you want to make the lines clearer, you need to do one more step.

Select the entire table again, right-click on it and go to "Table Properties", and then to Borders and Fills.

Here, in the Width field, change the default 0.5 pt to 1.5 pt (at least 1 pt). Do not rush to click "OK", first "curse" with the mouse the necessary lines on the explanatory figure in the "Sample" block for the changes to take effect. But now, feel free to press "OK" and admire the result - it will be hard not to notice such a ruler when printing a lined sheet!

A4 sheet ruled in a cage in MS Word

We figured out the ruler, now it's time to go to the sheet ruled in a cage - the same one as in a math notebook or on the sheets of a notebook. In fact, the principle is the same here, just a little different ways of working.

Create a new MS Word document and save it to disk. We pass to the "Insert" tab and choose insert Table tool.

In the window that appears, set the values \u200b\u200b(provided that the margins of the document are slightly reduced compared to the default size - for example, I set margins of 2 cm to the left and 1 cm to the right and top and 1.5 to the bottom):

  • Number of columns: 36 .
  • Number of cells: 52 .

Press "OK" and see a "fine-grained" table covering the part of the sheet.

Now let's adjust the size of the cells - select the inserted table, go to the "Layout" tab and forcibly set the size of the cells in height and width by one value: 0.5 cm (2 cells of the standard ruler are equal to one centimeter).

Now everything is ready - you can safely send our page lined in a cage for printing!

p.s. If after printing it turns out that the cells on the sheet are too dark, just change the color of the table lines. To do this, go to "Borders and Fill" again and in the "" Color "field specify one of the shades of gray. The final ruler of the sheet will look completely "like a notebook".

A4 sheet ruling in an oblique ruler

... not very good news: there are no standard tools for creating a slanting square ruler in MS Word. However, there would be a desire!

The first thing to do is to line the A4 sheet in a text editor in a familiar way, but only the distance between the individual ruler lines should be smaller. For example, I set the row height to 0.8 cm instead of 1 cm.

Creating a sheet ruler in an oblique ruler in a Word is neither simple nor intuitive

Now let's work with the pens a little: move the mouse cursor over the third line from the top, press and hold the left mouse button and drag it down a little. Thus, a free space is formed between the 2nd and 3rd lines of our ruler (its height is approximately 1.5 cm). Also, just move down a little bit every third ruler line and we end up with a lined sheet similar to what I got.

Now the most interesting thing: the oblique ruler is called oblique because, in addition to the horizontal ruler lines, it also has diagonal lines crossing the sheet from top to bottom, the very ones that help the child not to forget about the slope of letters when writing.

By the way, have you ever wondered what is the angle of inclination of the lines when ruling into an oblique ruler? It turns out that it is strictly defined by the standard and exactly corresponds to 65 degrees (more precisely, 25 degrees, because we are looking at the sheet from below!). It is these diagonals that we will draw in our template.

Now, let's just draw the oblique ruler!

On the panel "Insert" choose shapes tool and indicate the type of tool: Line.

Now draw a long line on the sheet strictly vertically (hold shift) and double-click to activate its settings.

On the Format tab, in the Arrange group, select the Rotate tool, and then More Rotation Options.

In the opened window "AutoShape Format" in field "Turn" specify the desired value: 25 degrees, and click "OK". The line will acquire the desired "oblique" slope, by the way, its ideal height for a standard MS Word sheet should be 29 centimeters.

Why do you need a zebra

When an abstract, term paper or thesis is written on A4 sheets with or without frames, it is very difficult to maintain the same indent, and even more so to write by hand clearly horizontally. At one time, pupils and students, when there was no time to draw the zebra by themselves, measured the same distance between the lines, laid exactly a stack of sheets, and pierced each line with a needle. Then, a little faster than marking out, barely visible lines were drawn with a simple pencil under the ruler. Then I also had to erase pencil lines, after the written work. But it was best to draw, with a black pen or felt-tip pen, a special stencil, which is called a zebra, and write under it.   1. Right click on the desktop, create a new Word file and open it.
  2. On the Insert tab, click the Table button and click the cell marked with an arrow in the figure. A two-column, four-row table is created on the page.
  3. Go to the Page Layout tab and configure the margins (hints in the screenshot). Here you can also change the orientation of the document, if necessary.
  4. Place the cursor on the vertical line. Press the left mouse button and, without releasing it, move the line to the right or to the left. This will set the column borders as desired.
  5. Select the entire table. According to the prompts from this picture, set the mode to display only internal borders.

    Very rarely we now use a ballpoint pen to write text on an A4 sheet.

    But sometimes you have to write a long-awaited vacation application.

    For even writing lines, a zebra stencil is suitable.

    If such a stencil is not at hand, then you can take a leaf from a notebook in a straight or oblique line.

    In order to write exactly on an A4 sheet, I suggest placing a kind of hint under the bottom in the form of the same A4 sheet with traced lines. All these lines will shine through perfectly and you will be able to write smoothly. These stitches can be drawn with a pen either manually or on a computer, the Excel program is very good for this.

    If there is no ready-made stencil, then:

    1. Open Word. Fill in one page of the document with signs. Choose any sign or signs that, as they say, are looking at you. For example, the letter О, and even better - interspersed with hyphens and other symbols. And using the pressed and not released key, fill the entire space of the page with these hyphens, periodically pressing other characters so that the line height is visible. You can do without letters at all, but make lines if you are not interested in height.
    2. Now make, at your discretion, a font of such size that would suit you. Format margins, line spacing and other parameters as well.
    3. Now bold all the text to make it more visible.
    4. Print this document. Place a blank sheet under a blank page and write, focusing on the lines visible. This template will help you write much smoother. After a while, the template may no longer be needed.

    If you want to learn how to write smoother on an A4 sheet, you can use ready-made devices that are sold in office supply stores. These are factory stencils. They are the same A4 sheets, but ready-made bold lines are already applied on them, which will be the basis of the lines. We put the stencil under the sheet and write. It couldn't be easier.

    But stencils may not be on sale. Do it yourself. Mark the sheet with a ruler and draw straight lines with a felt-tip pen. They will also be visible if the marker is not dry. And then try placing the stencil, but pay less attention to it. The hand will begin to get used to independent, even writing.

    Very simple. Place under a white sheet of paper printed from the Word Zebra - these are stripes (lines) and write.

    If it is not possible to print on a computer, then the zebra can be made manually. Just line the sheet with a black felt-tip pen and place it under the white sheet in the same way. I did that at school.

    With time and experience, you will learn to write with the eye and without the zebra.

    There are special stencils for this. You can buy them in stationery or draw yourself, as I remember doing at school. If the sheet is not very dense, then you can still use a regular sheet from a notebook in a box or in a line.

    I used to buy a special stencil from a stationery store with bold stripes on it, put it under the sheet and write along the translucent lines.

    Then he got dirty and became not very handsome in appearance. Therefore, I myself print such lines in the Word with the interval I need, print it out and put it under A4 sheet.

    Although this is so rarely done, it is faster to print everything than to write by hand.

    At work, when I was writing various documents that should be written by hand on an A4 sheet of paper, I put a piece of paper torn from a notebook in a box under the sheet. It turns out not only to write the text exactly, but also to neatly fill in the document heading, title and paragraphs. If you write such documents constantly, then after a while it turns out exactly without backing. And if you need to write a couple of sheets a week, then it's easier to insert a sheet of paper every time.

    Personally, I use a different leaf with drawn lines. Under the leaf on which I am writing, I put this line and begin to write. The paper is not very thick, so it shines through quite normally and the text is smooth. You can buy such special sheets, or you can print it yourself.
