It so happened that I have a stationary computer, I have not thought about buying a laptop before, because there was no such need. But in connection with a new job, the question came up squarely. I will not go into particular details, I will only say that the new position involves a large number of trips to different countries.

What do I expect from this device?

After going through a lot of options, I settled on the best, from my point of view, laptop models for travel.

I will need to collect data, including photos and videos, and sometimes work directly in transport. In addition, it will take a lot of correspondence and sending, including large files. This means that the laptop must be able to connect to the Internet anywhere and provide high speed. Thus, I need a medium-sized machine with a powerful battery, as well as a large hard drive and good data transmission channels. I will choose from the following models:

At the same time, there are a number of criteria that are especially important for me.

Since the laptop will always be with me on the road, at home and in the office, I will have to carry it with me at all times. Therefore, it should be as thin and light as possible.

Battery life

It is not always possible to connect your PC to the electrical network on an airplane or train. Yes, and upon arrival in an unfamiliar place, there is a risk of encountering certain inconveniences. In general, the laptop should run on its own battery for as long as possible.

Hard drive capacity

Saving a lot of photos and videos requires a lot of storage capacity. On the road, sometimes it may not be possible to transfer data to network media.

Data transmission devices

A laptop for travel should have maximum Internet connectivity. The presence of a Wi-Fi adapter is critical, Bluetooth, 3G (4G) / LTE is desirable.

Hull strength

Anything can happen to your computer on the road. A banal situation: the driver of the regular bus braked too abruptly and the passengers' bags fell to the floor of the cabin. Among other luggage, with a high degree of probability, there may be a laptop bag.

This model was released in the footsteps of the Apple MacBook and is its direct competitor in the performance of HP. It is an ultra-thin laptop weighing less than one kilogram. Unlike other similar models, this gadget has two USB Type-C ports. In addition, its screen lid is capable of opening 180 degrees, while most similar models can barely open at 130 degrees. It is a very robust and reliable device as it can work in difficult conditions, in particular:

• under the influence of high and low pressure;
• under the influence of sudden temperature changes;
• in high humidity and even in the rain;
• exposed to direct sunlight;
• with continuous shaking.

Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air 12.5 "

This is another miniature laptop released in the footsteps of the Apple MacBook. But unlike the eminent competitor, it has a more attractive cost. Another advantage is its robust steel body. The manufacturer has equipped it with USB, HDMI and USB-C connectors, a 128 GB SSD drive, and 4 GB of RAM. Thanks to this configuration, quite a decent performance is provided. In addition, it is able to work 9.5 hours in battery mode, which is very good for such a model (although the manufacturer boldly writes 11.5 hours).

DELL INSPIRON 3157

DELL INSPIRON 3157 is both a laptop and a tablet. DELL has released this model in two versions: with a standard and a graphics processor. I don't need graphic gadgets, so I will consider the first option. The main difference of this device is that it is equipped with a touch screen and at the same time has all the properties of a laptop. The manufacturer has inserted two powerful speakers into it, tuned using Waves MaxxAudio® professional sound processing technology. Plus, the battery life is claimed to be a pretty decent 11 hours.

ASUS TAICHI 21

ASUS TAICHI 21 was released in two variations: with 11.6 '' and 13.3 '' screens. Since I have to carry the laptop with me all the time, let it be as small as possible. Therefore, I chose the first option. On the lid of this laptop there is another touch screen, which, if necessary, allows it to turn into a tablet or, for example, turn on cartoons for a child while you are working. Another advantage is the presence of a rubber insert around the perimeter, which ensures a tight fit of the surfaces to each other when closed. This model weighs just over one kilogram, and its thickness is 17.4 mm.

Let's compare laptops by technical characteristics

It is convenient to compare models for specific characteristics in the table. We will take into account, including prices, since cost is an important indicator of choice.

We see that lightest laptop ever - this is Apple MacBook Early 2016, but it has only one USB port, which is also used for charging, which is extremely inconvenient. In my opinion, it has an optimal screen size and a pretty decent battery life.

Heaviest laptop - HP EliteBook Folio G1, which also has the largest screen size and also the highest price. The difference in weight with the previous model is more than half a kilogram. But, at the same time, he has two USB, and also has the ability to read mikro-SD cards. Besides, it is the most powerful, judging by the processor and RAM.

DELL INSPIRON 3157 has a very interesting configuration that turns it, if necessary, into a tablet or a laptop. But, despite the rather powerful processor, it may lag behind competitors in performance due to the presence of an HDD disk. It also has the weakest screen resolution.

Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air 12.5 "has the weakest processor and the smallest hard drive... It also has only one USB port and a small screen, and the cost is not the lowest. There is a reason to think.

ASUS TAICHI 21 is distinguished by a relatively small screen size and at the same time considerable weight. It has a powerful processor and many different connectors, including for LAN connection. But at the same time it the battery is the weakest of the entire comparison line.

Lenovo Yoga 900s has an optimal screen size with a decent resolution. In addition, in terms of weight, it is second only to a laptop from Apple and has a spacious hard drive. But it only has one USB port and no microcard support.

Yes, the choice will not be easy.

The capabilities of technology, declared by manufacturers, do not always coincide with reality. A PC with a higher processor frequency may run slower than a weaker model, but with an SSD drive, etc. In addition, various troubles often occur during operation. To be ready for anything, I decided to study the reviews.

Apple MacBook Early 2016

Users who have already bought this model describe its advantages as follows:

Of the shortcomings, in my opinion, the most significant:

I opted for the Lenovo Yoga 900s. Yes, it is not the most expensive, but it has everything I need:

• high performance (good processor, 8 GB of RAM and SSD);
• good hard disk space;
• the battery really holds for a long time, as stated;
• very convenient transformer mode;
• it is very compact;
• it has a high quality and reliable case.

According to its technical characteristics, it is harmonious, it has no distortions in one direction or another. The cost, of course, is not the lowest, but, in my opinion, it is worth the money. It remains to accumulate the required amount.

Finding the best laptop is not an easy task. There are many parameters to consider. If you do not go into the details of a specific work, which only the user himself is aware of, then in the parameters of the best laptop it is worth considering: power, size, weight, functionality, battery. It seems such simple conditions, but not every car will fit these parameters. So, we decide that the best laptop is lightweight, able to hold a charge for a long time, modern hardware and software capabilities. There is one more critically important point in evaluating the best laptop: the cost of the product. Let's start with the expensive ones, then suggest the budget ones.

ZenBook UX305LA

The first three travel laptops are the so-called ultrabooks, which are thin, stylish and lightweight. If appearance is not yet so important, then the other two characteristics of these products are at their best. Our first candidate is the ZenBook UX305LA. The excellent screen quality along with the powerful hardware makes this laptop the best for those who work with graphic information - designers, advertisers, as well as people in related fields.
