Mobile communication in lithuania for visitors. Mobile communications for tourists in Lithuania Mobile operators in Lithuania

There are three mobile operators in Lithuania. Each of them provides prepaid services under a separate brand.

  • Telia - prepaid brand: Extra and Ežys;
  • Tele2 - prepad brand: Pildyk;
  • Bitė - prepaid brand: Labas;

There is also a wireless Internet service provider LRTC that uses WiMAX and 4G / LTE technologies. It provides services under the Mezon brand.

Coating

As a rule, there is good 3G / 4G coverage throughout Lithuania. you can see the current coverage (GSM, UMTS, LTE) of all Lithuanian telecom operators.

Additional Information

The three main operators sell their prepaid services under different names: Pildyk, Labas and Ežys. Tariffs, compared to the EU, are quite affordable.

Prepaid SIM cards can be bought in the branded stores of the respective operators, gas stations, supermarkets, cafes, kiosks, etc.

A passport or registration in Lithuania is not required to purchase.

Roaming in the EU

Lithuania is a member of the European Union, where new international roaming rules are in force since June 2017.

However, as is often the case, there are exceptions. All three operators are allowed to apply surcharges on domestic tariffs for roaming in the EU.

Telia blocks data roaming on Extra and Ežys cards, while Labas and Pildyk are releasing combo packages for EU roaming. You can read more detailed information on each of the operators below.

Extra and Ežys (Telia)

Telia (formerly TEO), owned by the Swedish-Finnish Telia Group, has the best 3G coverage. 4G / LTE covers almost 99% of the population. The operator offers two prepaid tariffs called Extra and Ežys (translated as hedgehog).

How much and where to buy the package

Extra and Ežys SIM cards are sold for between 1.50 and 2.00 euros. They can be bought in Telia communication stores, in Iki, Rimi, Maxima supermarkets, in kiosks, cafes and other retail outlets. In the same place, as a rule, you can purchase checks to replenish your account.

All Extra and Ežys SIM cards come in triple size. You can choose which one you use: mini, micro or nano.

Extra and Ežys SIM are very similar but include different data packages. SIM card management is the same. Same coverage, application and payment methods.

Activation and validation

To activate the SIM card, you must dial 1544. Listen to the voice menu; press "9" to select English; then press "1" to activate the card and hear your phone number. The activation is free.

To check the balance, dial 1544, press "2" in the voice menu (€ 0.03 per request) and you will hear the balance of your number.

The SIM card is valid for 100 days after the first use. Then, for 250 days, it will only work for incoming calls and sms. After 250 days, the SIM card will be blocked. To renew the validity, you need to fund your account. Each € 1 top-up adds 30 days to the lifespan of the SIM card.

How to call Lithuania

If you live in Belarus and you need to contact a resident of Lithuania, you need to know the code of Lithuania, the city in which the subscriber lives and his personal phone number. In simplified form, the dialing rule looks like this:

lithuania code (370) - city code - subscriber number

In this case, it is necessary to take into account which telephone set you are making a call from. The rule for calling a Lithuanian subscriber from a mobile and landline phone is different, but the general dialing scheme is still traced: country-city-personal number.

How to call Lithuania from a landline phone

If you only have a landline phone at hand, then the sequence of actions when making an international call will be as follows:

  • Lithuania code set - 370;
  • Enter the city code, for example, Kaunas - 37;
  • Finally, we enter the Lithuanian subscriber number.

When accessing international and long-distance communication, you must wait for the dial tone, and then continue dialing.

How to call Lithuania from landline to mobile

The actions are similar when dialing a city number, but instead of the city code, the mobile operator's code is entered, and then the subscriber's number:

  • Access to the international line through the eight;
  • Exit to the intercity line by pressing 10;
  • Lithuania code set - 370;
  • Enter the operator code;
  • We enter the mobile number of the Lithuanian subscriber.

How to call Lithuania from mobile to mobile

Having a cell phone at hand makes the procedure much easier. You do not need to access special communication lines. It is enough to dial the subscriber's number in the format:

lithuania code (+370) - mobile operator code - subscriber number

In this case, do not forget to dial + before the Lithuanian code. After dialing, a direct connection with the subscriber will take place.

The dialing procedure from mobile to city is practically the same. It is only necessary to replace the mobile operator code with the city code of the Lithuanian subscriber.

To call a specific city, use the directory of dialing codes of Lithuanian settlements.

Mobile operators in Lithuania

Lithuania occupies one of the first places in the EU in terms of the number of mobile phones per capita. Due to strong competition, prices for mobile communications in Lithuania are among the lowest in the EU.

Mobile communication in Lithuania is provided by three mobile operators: Omnitel, Bite GSM and Tele2. In addition to these three operators, there is also the so-called virtual cellular operator - Eurocom. Cards of all mobile operators can be bought in mobile phone stores, as well as in various retail outlets, newsstands, hypermarkets in Lithuania, and at gas stations.

All operators provide the ability to connect without concluding contracts. Prices for subscribers using a permanent connection are very affordable. However, a large number of users prefer not to conclude an agreement with an operator, but to use prepaid services. And, of course, prepaid services are very convenient for visitors.

The most popular are three prepaid tariffs: Pildyk from Tele2, Labas from Bite, and Extra from Omnitel.

Prepaid tariff Pildyk from Tele2

The cost of the card is LTL 4.50 and is credited to the account. Since the last top-up, Pildyk users can call for 100 days and receive calls for 180 days.

After activating the card, the standard Pildyk tariffs are activated (activation takes place within 30 minutes from the moment of the first paid call to a special number 1520 (call cost - LTL 0.10) or any other number you know).

Pildyk standard rates:

Call duration is rounded to the nearest minute.
Additional services and plans can be ordered after 30 minutes from the moment the card is activated.

Prepaid comparison - tariffs of Lithuanian mobile operators.

There are three mobile operators in Lithuania: Omnitel, Bite and Tele2. All of them provide the ability to connect without concluding contracts.

Cards of all operators can be bought both in mobile phone stores and in various retail outlets from Lietuvos Spauda kiosks to hypermarkets. All operators have inexpensive packages available, including up to a gigabyte of mobile Internet. Such a package usually costs around 2.5 euros.

From our point of view, there is no fundamental difference between operators and the packages they offer, so you can safely choose any operator. At the same time, for beginners, we would recommend choosing a package with prepaid internet traffic. Otherwise, Internet traffic will be charged at standard rates, which is quite ruinous. Of course, for any package, you can include an Internet plan, but this will require additional steps and costs.

Omnitel Extra

Extra is a prepaid package from the largest Lithuanian mobile operator Omnitel. For November 2016, the following types of cards are sold:

  • 1.5 € is a basic card that is not connected to any plan, to which 1.5 € is credited. When calling and using the mobile Internet, standard Omnitel tariffs are used, which will empty your account very quickly (calls in the Omnitel network - 0.05 EUR / min, calls to other networks - 0.14 EUR / min, SMS abroad - 0.084 EUR, 0 , 26 EUR for 10 Mb of data, etc.).
  • A card with prepaid 1Gb internet costs 5.50 euros and 4 euros on the account. This card also allows calls to most countries of the world, including Russia and Belarus, for € 0.39 per minute (the standard rate is € 0.53 / min to Belarus and € 0.89 / min to Russia). In our opinion, this is the optimal type of Extra card for a tourist.
  • 8,40 and 14,19 euros cost cards with connected Internet plans for 3 and 10 Gb, respectively. After 30 days, plans are automatically renewed if there is enough money in the account.

For all types of packages, within 30 days from the date of activation, mobile data used by Facebook (both through the browser and using the application) is not charged.

The money credited to the account will expire 100 days after the last replenishment. After that, the number can receive calls for another 250 days.

Refill

  • with an Omni ID card. Once you activate the card, simply hand it along with the money to the cashier at any point where you see the Omni ID sticker. Each card can be used to fund one account.
  • in Omnitel salons.

For information on the status of your account, call 1544.

Chips

Every Omnitel Extra package includes an Omni ID card to fund your account. But this is not the only function of this card. It also serves as a discount card in a variety of shops, restaurants and places, from gas stations to movie theaters.

You can read more about the tariffs and rules for using the Extra card on the Omnitel website.

Labas

Prepaid tariff from Bite. As with Extra, cards are offered with a basic plan for 1.5 euros and with connected mobile data for 2.5. The validity period of the card from the moment of activation is 2 months, from the moment of the last replenishment for an amount up to 6 euros - 2 months, for an amount of 6 euros or more - 4 months. The validity period of the card from the moment of the last replenishment is 100 days, after which the number remains for another 80 days.

The terms of the account are the same as for Omnitel Extra.

Refill

You can fund your account in the following ways:

  • with a reusable Ežio viza card, which is part of the starter package. Having activated the card once, simply hand it along with the money to the cashier at any point where you will see the Ežys sticker.
  • using payment cards of the main international systems (on the Internet on the Ežys website, choose Išmanusis papildymas)

Internet in Lithuania

Lithuania ranks first in the world for the quality and speed of Wi-Fi. There are access points in almost all large shopping centers, hotels, cafes and restaurants, museums, as well as on the streets of large cities (in the most popular public places).
For example, in Vilnius, these are: the courtyard of the Teacher's House, the open-air restaurant "Cili kaimo", Town Hall Square, K. Sirvydas Square, Moniuszko Square, Europe Square, Recreation Area on the White Bridge. Wi Fi in the listed places is free, access point is Cgates.

There is also a paid Wi Fi Zebra - there are about 4000 access points in Lithuania. Cost - from 0.87 euros per day. A map of access points in Vilnius can be obtained on the operator's website.

the Internet

Several hotels and a couple of restaurants have Wi-Fi hotspots. According to some information, they can be used free of charge. GPRS roaming is available to subscribers of major Russian operators. Internet access is available in the National Library, and in Internet cafes that can be found in major cities.

When planning to visit any of the neighboring countries, tourists first of all think about how they will communicate during the trip, that is, about mobile communications. Of course, you can not bother at all about this, and continue to use roaming (if any) of your own operator, but as practice shows, this is quite expensive. Especially if you are not on a business trip and mobile expenses are paid from your own pocket. Therefore, you should clarify in advance which operator is more convenient and profitable to use, based on your specifics of communication and needs.

You will need

  • Visit Lithuania and purchase a SIM card from one of the mobile operators.

Step by step solution

  • Let's start with the most important thing - choosing an operator. There are three of them in Lithuania: Bite GSM, Omnitel and Tele2. And also a virtual mobile operator - Eurocom. You can connect to these operators without concluding contracts. The most popular are two mobile operators - Bite and Tele2, more precisely, their prepaid tariffs Labas and Pildyk. These rates are the most advantageous for calls within the country. If there is a need to call abroad, it is better to purchase prepaid cards. They are sold at the post office and all newsstands.
  • The largest mobile operators in Lithuania, Bite and Tele2, have excellent coverage throughout the country, and outside of it they automatically enable roaming services. There is no subscription fee for using the package, the SIM card remains active for six months, regardless of whether you use it or not.
  • These cards can be purchased at any large store, Lietuvos spauda kiosk, gas stations. You can also top up your balance there. To do this, just ask to knock out a check for the specified operator at the checkout. The electronic banking system is very convenient - if you have access, the SIM card holder can replenish the account or solve any other issue on the website of the corresponding mobile operator.
  • How to call abroad from Lithuania? This question worries many guests of the country. If you call from a landline phone, you need to dial: 00, country code (to which you are calling), local code, subscriber number. There is such a pleasant moment as a 30% discount, which is valid from 22-00 to 6-00 on weekdays, and throughout all weekends and holidays.
  • How to call from abroad to Lithuania? Remember the international code of Lithuania - (+370). You need to dial the number in this order - first access to international calls (depending on the country, it will be different). Then the area code (depending on whether you are calling a mobile or landline phone). For example, to a landline number: dial international access + 5 (this is the code of the capital of Lithuania) + phone number. To mobile - international access code + phone number (without 8 at the beginning).

note

  • Wi-Fi is available almost everywhere in Lithuania and is absolutely free. Restaurants, Internet cafes, hotels, shops, shopping and entertainment centers - this list of places where the Internet is caught can be continued for a long time.
