The most popular mobile phone of the year. Shooting close-ups in good lighting

12 smartphones of the year: the best "state employees", the best in terms of price and quality, and more.

The smartphone has long become more than just a phone, but rather even a man's best friend. Calls, correspondence in instant messengers, toys, photos, mail and the Internet - few people think about how much time we spend with our electronic assistants, and how important they are to us. The past year has brought us a lot of new smartphones, interesting news and presentations: some names go out of the way and go into oblivion, someone finally "decides" to release smartphones with large diagonals, and someone whistles "breaks in" into the leaders by share in the world market. The site's experts have been testing new models in the laboratory all year round and are ready to tell you about the best smartphones of 2014 and which smartphone is better to buy. Someone was included in the list because of the good battery, someone because of the value for money, or even turned out to be the best budget smartphone - let's dwell on each model in more detail.

It seems that it was a long time ago, but at the beginning of 2014 Samsung announced its next, fifth in a row, the flagship of the Galaxy S line. The company's flagships have become a kind of benchmark for Android devices, especially after the success, which sold out in huge numbers - in May In 2014, about 60 million models were sold worldwide. What has made Samsung happy this time? Firstly, the Koreans "picked up" the idea with a water-resistant body - the Samsung Galaxy S5 is not afraid of water or dust, which we checked in tests, and it also has a fingerprint scanner, like. Secondly, this is a 5.1-inch juicy display with a Super AMOLED matrix and Full HD-resolution, which, by the way, has already become "standard" for Android flagships since last year. The rest is quite typical for Samsung devices - good battery life, some of the best cameras on the market, a collapsible body and a memory card slot. At the same time, many did not like the appearance of the novelty: they were “scolded” mainly for “cheap” materials and “simple” design. Appearance criticism has reached the point that Samsung's chief smartphone designer Jang Dong Hoon lost his chair. The model, in our opinion, is very good and since the beginning of the year has taken a high place in our Smartphone Rating. However, it did not become a breakthrough and, apparently, failed to surprise consumers with something special, as evidenced by smartphone sales in 2014, which turned out to be lower than expected.

As usual, Apple has managed to create excitement around its new products. Everyone, or almost everyone, watched the presentation of the iPhone 6 - because of the influx of visitors, the site could not cope, and instead of the video from the presentation, many saw an error and an apology from the company. As a rule, Apple releases one “best” smartphone per year, but this time there are two of them, and it is not so easy to decide which one is the best iPhone.

In terms of specifications, the iPhone 6 looks modest, like the Android flagship from two years ago. The iPhone 6 has grown in every sense: it is the increased diagonal of 4.7 inches, the smartphone also works faster than anyone in games and in daily use. The cameras may not have so many megapixels, but they shoot at a high level, and with slow-motion video shooting at 240 frames per second, you can, having fun, “stick” with the camera for a long time. The display is not the sharpest on the market in terms of pixel density, but it is enough to not see individual pixels. The screen is bright, contrasty and with wide viewing angles. It sounds ironic a little pretentious, in our opinion, the name of the display - Retina HD. While 1334 × 750 pixels are not much higher than the common HD resolution (1280 × 720 pixels). A few words about the design, it may not please everyone - plastic inserts for antennas are needed in the aluminum case, here they were made in the form of a peculiar pattern on the back of the device - a solution, for example, for an amateur. Only the battery life (6 hours 40 minutes in HD video viewing at maximum brightness) disappointed in the new product - the iPhone 6 is not far from the Apple iPhone 5s, which was not enough for many users.

For many, this year it was remembered as a bendable iPhone, but if you really want to, you can bend anything, with normal use it will not bend. But it's better to play it safe and not specifically experiment on the strength of the case. For a long time Apple insisted that it is more convenient to operate small smartphones and laughed at the competitors' shovels, but as time goes on, Apple overestimated the situation and took its place in the phablet market. The phone, in our opinion, looks just huge, especially after 3-4-inch Apple smartphones, and its wide, seemingly huge bezels above and below the display are a little scary. They now prefer to keep silent about the convenience of using one hand, but you can unleash the potential of a huge Full HD display. The screen is great for games and videos, making it the best iPhone for multimedia entertainment. In addition to a large display and a capacious battery, the iPhone 6 Plus, against the background of a "normal" model, also boasts an optical stabilization system. All in all, if you don't have enough battery on your iPhone 6, then the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus is the best Apple smartphone of the year for you.

Since we are talking about "phablets", it would be a sin not to mention the best Android device in this segment in our tests. The Samsung Galaxy Note is the ancestor of huge smartphones, once an experimental model that has successfully grown into a popular lineup. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is a 5.7-inch giant in every sense of the word. It has an incredibly clear Quad HD display (2560 × 1440 pixels) with a Super AMOLED matrix, powerful hardware, one of the best cameras, longer battery life than the iPhone 6 Plus or LG G3, an unusual design with a metal frame, a huge amount functions and settings - this alone allows you to call it the best, but even that is not all. One of the features of the Note series is the stylus, which, by the way, is constantly being improved. With it, you can write by hand, draw, execute various commands, take screenshots, view information about objects, select pieces of text or images, and much more. All this makes the device a unique solution on the market for those who need everything at once. True, you will have to pay a lot for it. If the price (39,990 rubles) seems too high or the stylus does not inspire you at all, you can pay attention to the Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro or Huawei Ascend Mate 7.

LG G2 mini is a typical mini-flagship, which came out six months after the "older" model. The smartphone has a large diagonal for the mini version (4.7 inches). The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 2. The resolution of the display does not reach HD. Unlike the flagship, the camera was “lightened” to 8 MP, but despite this it takes good photos “on the go”. But they left the corporate design with thin frames and control buttons on the back, and also gave a good 2440 mAh battery. The chipset is a mid-range solution - Qualcomm Snapdragon 400, which is enough for most games. There is a version on sale with support for two SIM-cards or with one, but at the same time with an NFC chip and LTE support. It would seem that what is remarkable, the usual "stripped down" flagship, but its price is interesting, which was practically not affected by currency fluctuations - about 10,000 rubles. While similar-spec mini-flagships cost twice as much, like the HTC One mini 2 or the Samsung Galaxy S5 mini, this makes the LG G2 mini an attractive model.

Don't want to pay extra for branded flagships? You can pay attention to the fashion model from Huawei. The company has the third largest share in the global smartphone market, significantly increasing smartphone sales. Perhaps their devices are not yet so popular and well-known in Russia, but this is a global brand and they have something to offer - for example, Huawei Ascend P7. The smartphone turned out to be very beautiful and looks like something between the iPhone 4S and Sony Xperia Z, and the thickness of the case is only 6.5 mm - the thinnest in our rating! The rest of the characteristics correspond to the high "flagship" level: 5-inch Full HD (1920 × 1080 pixels) display with natural colors and sharp images, 13 MP camera with good detail and 5 MP front camera for high-quality selfies with smoothing of skin defects and magnification eye. It is also nice that it is not inferior to eminent competitors in terms of interfaces - "in the cage" dual-band Wi-Fi, NFC chip and support for Russian LTE frequencies. At the same time, the battery pumped up a little (this is due to the thin case) - the test results are worse than those of typical flagships, as well as its own chipset, which the company has yet to work on. In general, this is an excellent option in terms of price and quality ratio: an ultra-thin, beautiful flagship for a more affordable price (approx. 18,000 rubles).

The Asus Zenfone 5 is arguably the best smartphone of the year in terms of value for money. For a moderate price tag, you get a device: with 16 GB of internal and 2 GB of RAM, support for two SIM cards, a 5-inch HD display with an IPS matrix, Gorilla Glass and an oleophobic coating, special color gamut modes, the ability to work in gloves. In addition, the Asus Zenfone 5 boasts affordable 8 and 1.3 MP cameras, a hot-swappable memory card slot, a nice branded interface, and a decent Intel processor. The smartphone, in our opinion, has no weak points, except for the dimensions - the body is very high. And the battery results in our tests turned out to be average - approx. 5 hours of watching HD video. The manufacturer did not stop there and later released an "improved" version of Zenfone 5, single-symbol, but with LTE support and on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset. It is also captivating that the head of Asus himself came to the Moscow presentation dedicated to the launch of the Zenfone line of smartphones in Russia Johnny Shea!

At the end of the year, due to fluctuations in the exchange rate, the price of a smartphone also increased, before it could be bought for 7-8 thousand - now for 11,000 rubles, and the LTE version - for 15,000 rubles.

The list of the best budget smartphones of the year would include many different models, if not for the Zenfone 4, which left no chances for competitors, offering optimal performance with a modest price tag. The dimensions of the 4-inch smartphone are comparable to those of the iPhone 5S (except for the thickness). The volume of internal memory is up to 8 GB, a "full" gigabyte of RAM, in the presence of support for two SIM-cards. Note the average processor, which is fast when solving everyday tasks, but its capabilities are no longer enough for "heavy" games. I am glad that the main 5 MP camera has autofocus, we did not forget about the front camera - 0.3 MP. Among the advantages, we note a convenient and well-thought-out ZenUI interface and a proprietary keyboard.

Where competitors can match or beat the Asus Zenfone 4 in terms of battery life and display quality. The Asus budget phone uses a TN matrix with low resolution and narrow viewing angles. But if some of the inexpensive smartphones, for example Explay Tornado or Nokia X Dual SIM, can boast of ISP-matrices, then they are unlikely to have the oleophobic coating and protective glass Gorilla Glass, which Zenfone 4 has. The smartphone's battery is only 1600 mAh battery, and its closest competitor, comparable with it in terms of price-quality ratio, Lenovo A328, with a 2000 mAh battery, although it won the battery life tests, was inferior in almost everything else. As in the case of the Zenfone 5, the manufacturer has released an "improved" version of the fourth Zenfone - ASUS Zenfone 4 A450CG, with a 4.5-inch diagonal, a larger battery and an 8 MP main camera.

Philips Xenium W6610 is a bulky, inexpensive and unattractive-looking smartphone, with a mediocre "filling" and only 4 GB of internal memory. So what's good about it? Anyone who is familiar with the peculiarity of the Xenium line already knows the answer in advance - it is a "fat" battery and long battery life. The manufacturer has placed a 5300 mAh battery, which, of course, affected the dimensions of the device. The Philips Xenium W6610 is our leader in battery life, with more than 12 hours of HD video playback and up to 5.5 days in audio player mode. This is something that many will forgive him for both the mediocre display and the weak GPS with Wi-Fi. Speaking of the display, with such weak screen characteristics, we were surprised by the presence of a mode of operation with gloves. Hardly anyone will appreciate the design of a smartphone or its mediocre cameras, but for those who care about staying connected as long as possible between charging sessions, the Philips Xenium W6610 is the way to go.

On the pages of the resource Gadget.Co.Za, Arthur Goldstack identified the best smart phones in the most important categories. Among these categories, it is worth highlighting inexpensive smart phones with a large screen, premium phablets and relatively small smartphones for those who prefer to work with the screen of their mobile device with one hand.

Best compact smartphones

In a screen format from 4 to 5 inches, compact phones are offered by Sony and Samsung. Of note is Sony's excellent Z3 Compact with a 4.6-inch screen that looks a bit like the iPhone 6 at first glance. Sony's remarkable camera makes this phone perhaps the best choice in this category. Of course, not for those users who focus only on Apple products. Samsung's S5 Mini has a 4.5-inch screen and reasonably good hardware. With its 4.7-inch screen, the iPhone 6 ranks among the best compact phones of the year.

Best compact smartphones of 2014:

Apple iPhone 6

Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini

Sony Xperia Z3 Compact

Best Budget Big Screen Phones

The popular phablet format often implies a high price for the phone. But it is not always the case. The Hisense MAXE X1 is actually a 6.8-inch tablet with phone features, but is marketed as a phablet. Alcatel One Touch Hero with its 6-inch screen will also appeal to connoisseurs of large phones who are not ready to overpay for premium phablets. And about HTC Desire 816, with Nokia Lumia 730, its famous brand speaks best.

Best low-cost large-screen smartphones:

Which phone would you name the best in each of the categories reviewed?

Modern people cannot imagine their life without smartphones, which store all important information, from the phone number of children and wife to the schedule of the working day. Large companies have arranged a real race among themselves, which of them will create the most beautiful, fastest, most technologically advanced smartphone in the world. Only a couple of dozen devices appear annually, which have been talked about for months and attract the attention of millions of people around the world. Meet the ten best smartphones in the world 2014.

The Nokia Lumia 1520 boasts some rather unusual body colors. Buyers have the option of the device in classic black or white colors, and in frivolous red and green colors. There is a quad-core processor clocked at 2.20 GHz, a 20-megapixel camera with autofocus, by the way one of the best in our rating, and 32 gigabytes of internal memory.

9. LG G2

In ninth place for the best smartphones we have climbed LG G2 with a 5.2-inch screen. The device boasts a modern productive filling, and an excellent screen with excellent viewing angles and good color rendering. The only thing that let the camera down a bit is better than the Samsung Galaxy 4, but it loses quite seriously to the iPhone. Stylish slim body of the smartphone will not leave anyone indifferent.

In eighth place we got the little-known dark horse OnePlus One from China. The key to the success of the smartphone is a very productive filling, a user-friendly interface and a very attractive price. The heart of OnePlus One is the Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor clocked at 2.5 GHz (believe me, this is the best you can find on the market today), and the 5.5-inch 1080p IPS screen produces a very bright detailed picture with natural flowers. The CyanogenMod 11S operating system is installed out of the box on the smartphone, this is a nice-looking modified version of Android.

Quality, reliability and stability are the motto of the Google Nexus 5 smartphone. The Android device comes with a quad-core processor, clocked at 2.26 GHz and an excellent 4.95-inch screen. Among the weaknesses of the smartphone are a very mediocre camera, battery and body design, which loses to the older brother Nexus 4.

In sixth place among the best smartphones in the world, we climbed the giant Samsung Galaxy Note 3, which, despite the 5.7-inch AMOLED display, boasts a fairly compact body measuring 151.2 x 79.2 x 8.3 mm, looks very slender compared to competitors. The smartphone received a quad-core processor, clocked at 2.3 GHz, a 13-megapixel camera. As a bonus, the smartphone comes with a Direct Pen Input stylus. Of course, the Galaxy Note 3's screen responds perfectly to both finger pressure and the stylus.

The LG G Flex, the world's first 6-inch curved and flexible smartphone, comes in at fourth place in our ranking. The smartphone received a quad-core processor, clocked at 2.26 gigahertz, and a 13-megapixel camera. If you are looking for a truly extraordinary advanced smartphone that is unlike any other mobile phone, then the LG G Flex is the best choice.

Sony Xperia Z2 - the new flagship smartphone from Sony, has become the very embodiment of style and high technology. The heart of the device is a quad-core processor, clocked at 2.3 GHz, the main camera has a resolution of 20.7 megapixels. The 5.2-inch display supports proprietary X-Reality and TRILUMINOS technologies, which make the picture clearer and more saturated. One of the main features of the Sony Xperia Z2 is the dust and moisture resistant case, thanks to which the smartphone can stay under water for up to 30 minutes.

The third in the ranking of the best smartphones in the world is the most popular device in the world, Apple iPhone 5S. Its main feature is the well-thought-out iOS operating system, thanks to which it works very quickly even on a 1.7 GHz processor, which is almost two times less than that of competitors. The main 8-megapixel camera with "True Tone" flash that changes the color temperature of the backlight, despite its modest resolution, allows you to take very high-quality, incredibly realistic images.

2.Samsung Galaxy S5

Samsung knows how to sell smartphones simply in huge quantities, creating hype around them in the press and giving out information about the new product drop by drop, constantly reminding about itself. The flagship of the Korean electronics giant 2014 Samsung Galaxy S5 is no exception. The smartphone boasts a 5.1-inch display made using SuperAMOLED technology, the fastest Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor operating at 2.5 GHz, two cameras, a 16-megapixel main and a 2.1-megapixel front.

The best smartphone of 2014 was the HTC One M8. The device boasts a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor, which operates at a frequency of 2.5 gigahertz, 2 gigabytes of RAM, 16 gigabytes (32 gigabytes if you pay extra money) of memory for data storage, a dual main camera with 4 megapixels and a front 5 megapixel camera. Plus the metal body of HTC One M8 gives a unique feeling of reliability and solidity when you take your smartphone in hand.

Every day, thousands of people in our country go to the store for a new mobile phone. Most often, a modern smartphone is purchased that can perform many tasks. But how can you choose a worthy candidate without spending a lot of time on it? It's simple, take advantage of our list of the best smartphones you can buy right now.

Not all users like the Windows Phone operating system yet. But this is its main advantage for the buyer. Devices based on Microsoft operating systems are rapidly falling in price. More recently, the Nokia Lumia 1020 smartphone was considered the flagship and was sold for 27 thousand rubles. Now it can be purchased for 17-19 thousand rubles. A great choice for someone looking for a mobile device with a great camera! Its sensor here has a 41-megapixel resolution, which still cannot be offered by any of the competitors.

Otherwise, this is a typical flagship of the middle of last year. The front panel houses a 4.5-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels. Now this will surprise no one.

LG G2

The LG G2 smartphone was released last fall. His follower should be announced very soon. But no one doubts that the LG G2 will sell well for a couple of years.

This unit is good at least for its 13-megapixel camera. It allows you to take great pictures in both standard lighting and twilight. The device differs from all other "androids" in the arrangement of the buttons. The volume rocker and the power button are located on the rear panel. You get used to it quickly. Well, the front panel in the LG G2 is occupied by an HD display with a 5.2-inch diagonal. You can buy a smartphone now for about 20 thousand rubles. Or cheaper if you're willing to sacrifice onboard storage.

Smartphones from the South Korean company Samsung could not ignore our list. After all, they are equipped with a magnificent AMOLED screen, renowned for its energy efficiency. And if this display is combined with a special stylus - technology starts to spin your head. An example of this is.

The device offers many ways to interact with applications. It is even allowed to divide the screen, displaying its own program on each of the halves. Full HD screen for comfortable viewing of movies. Some may not be satisfied with only the 5.7-inch diagonal. What to do, Galaxy Note 3 (and its predecessors) does not fit into every pocket ... Sellers demand 25 thousand rubles for the phablet and even more.

CEOs of large companies think that all people need smartphones with huge screens. But what if a person needs a device with a 4.3-inch display? Developers rarely think about such a situation. And yet smartphones with such a screen are present on the market. One of them is.

For 20 thousand rubles the buyer gets a compact device with an HD display. The smartphone turned out to be slightly plump, but this does not prevent it from being able to fit in any pocket. And the smartphone has a 20.7-megapixel camera with proprietary optics from Sony. You can even shoot in the rain, since the body of the device is endowed with moisture protection.

The Google Nexus 5 smartphone was born last year. The device is packed with technologies almost to capacity. It runs the Android 4.4 operating system with no third-party shell installed on top of it. This is what the Nexus line is famous for.

The 16-gigabyte version of the smartphone costs 17 thousand rubles. This is relatively small money when you consider that the device has a five-inch screen with Full HD resolution. The powerful processor allows you to run almost any application and game designed for the Android operating system. The downside of the device is the 8 megapixel camera. This permission now suits not every user.

The Sony Xperia Z2 smartphone belongs to a kind of heavy artillery. It was released just a few months ago. The Japanese have tried to squeeze all the technology they can into a small piece of aluminum and glass. The result is a masterpiece. But it is also expensive - about 30 thousand rubles.

The front panel of the device houses a 5.2-inch screen with Full HD resolution. It is equipped with special technology that significantly improves contrast. On the back, you can find a 20.7MP camera lens. With such a smartphone, Sony will continue to gain a decent market share.

Moto G

Our list of the best smartphones wouldn't be complete without a budget solution. The device under the name Moto G acts as it. In Russian retail, it is released for 8-9 thousand rubles. However, it is not so easy to find it, because Motorola officially left our market a long time ago.

The smartphone works with one of the latest versions of the Android operating system. On its front panel is a good HD-display with a 4.5-inch diagonal. The smartphone has several proprietary features from Google, which until then were only in Moto X. The low cost of the device was provided by an average processor and a simple camera by today's standards.

Samsung Galaxy S5

This spring, the Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone began to roll off the assembly line. This is the new flagship device from the South Korean company. It is he who shows the ability of Koreans to fit the maximum number of technologies into a small plastic case.

The front panel of the device houses a 5.1-inch display with Full HD resolution. It was created using Super AMOLED technology. At the back is a 16-megapixel camera lens. This smartphone can do almost everything. It is not yet used only for launching rockets. However, technology is expensive. For the 16-gigabyte version in Russia they ask for 27 thousand rubles. The version with more memory will be even more expensive.

iPhone 5S

Last year, Apple introduced two new smartphones at once. But only the iPhone 5S deserves a mention on our list. This unit has received several major improvements. For example, this is the first time Apple has installed a 64-bit processor in its smartphone. Now it has become even closer in power to computer chips.

The design of the device has practically not changed. From the previous model, the iPhone 5S can only be distinguished by the sensor that reads the fingerprint. The rest of the smartphone has changed very little. Even the screen has retained its 4-inch diagonal, which all owners of the Galaxy Note series of phablets laugh at. You can buy iPhone 5S in our stores for 27 thousand rubles and more.

The HTC One M8 smartphone hit the shelves this spring. The device has all modern technologies. Even the most advanced user will not be able to tell what is missing here. The only drawback is the camera. HTC continues to rely on large pixel technology, which makes it nearly impossible to print a photo.

The rest of the developers did not make any mistakes. Information is displayed on a five-inch screen with Full HD resolution. The operating system is Android 4.4. Among the wireless chips built into the HTC One M8 are NFC, Wi-Fi, GPS, GLONASS and many others. The device works in both 3G and LTE networks. A smartphone is sold for 30 and 33 thousand rubles, depending on the amount of built-in memory.

Smartphone rating 2014 compiled on the basis of assessments and reviews given by journalists and experts of the World Mobile Congress, which took place in March 2014 of the year.

The capabilities of a modern smartphone so large that it more and more often replaces the user with a personal computer, photo and video camera, TV and music center.

We did not rate smartphones, as each of them occupies its own niche and will find its buyer.
