Dr. Web CureIt is a free curing utility with which you can qualitatively scan your computer for viruses. The utility can be used even if another antivirus is installed on the computer, i.e. conflicts between Dr. Web CureIt and installed antivirus software does not appear. The big plus of CureIt is that you can run it from a USB flash drive - you don't need to install the program on your computer.
Where to download Dr. Web CureIt for free
Important! Download the utility only from the official website of the program. Otherwise, there is a big risk that you will download a program infected with viruses.
Step 1... Go to Doctor Web's website and click on the button Further (the official website always contains the latest version of Dr. Web CureIt, so don't try to download the utility via torrent).

How to use the Dr. Web CureIt
After launching the downloaded file (with the .exe extension), we will be offered to run the scan by default, i.e. in enhanced protection mode.
It is suggested to run Dr.Web CureIt in enhanced protection mode
If you know that your computer is infected with viruses or there are signs of a computer infection, then just click OK, after which the scan will start in enhanced protection mode. In this mode, the malicious activity of viruses will be blocked by the utility.
Important! In enhanced protection mode, you will not be able to work on the computer until the end of the scan.
Full computer scan with the possibility of parallel user work
Step 1. In order to be able to simultaneously scan the computer for viruses and work on it, after launching the utility, click on the Cancel button.

Step 5. We put a tick next to the item "My Computer" - after that all the disks on the PC will be selected. Click on the OK button.

The scan can take several hours - the scan time depends on the computer's performance and the occupied disk space.
Most likely Dr. Web CureIt will find something. In this particular case, 6 threats were found despite the fact that Kaspersky Internet Security (KIS) with fresh databases was installed on the computer. To be fair, it should be noted that viruses were found not on the "C" drive, but on the "E" drive, which contained the installers of some programs and site backups.
Attention! If Dr. Web CureIt found the "left" entries in the hosts file, read the information below before clicking the Neutralize button.

What if CureIt wants to fix the hosts file?
So, if the hosts file appears in the list of threats, then before deciding whether to neutralize the threat or not, you must proceed from the situation:
- If you cannot go to sites such as Odnoklassniki and VKontakte, then it makes sense to enable the utility to make a change to the hosts file;
- If you are using unlicensed Adobe software such as Photoshop, you shouldn't rush, as the hosts file will most likely look like this:
All lines that begin with the "#" sign are comments and you can ignore them, since they are not processed. We are interested in the last four lines (circled in red):
- 127.0.0.1 lmlicenses.wip4.adobe.com
- 127.0.0.1 lm.licenses.adobe.com
- 127.0.0.1 activate.adobe.com
- 127.0.0.1 practivate.adobe.com
These lines are added to the hosts file when unlicensed Adobe programs are activated. This is done to prevent programs from contacting Adobe services and checking the license. If these lines are removed by the Dr. Web CureIt, Photoshop, After Affects, Premiere will be blocked.

If you do not want to install an anti-virus on your computer, but you have undergone a virus attack, use the Dr.Web CureIt utility. It is capable of detecting, curing or removing viruses in the same way as antivirus programs. Previously, the editors of our site conducted a test and the Dr.Web CureIt utility showed the best results among its competitors (you can see the full rating of utilities).
Using the Dr.Web CureIt utility is not difficult. It can be downloaded absolutely free of charge from the official Dr.Web website. The only drawback that Dr.Web CureIt has is its weight of 160 MB, which is especially noticeable if you have a low speed Internet connection.
Then we move on to selecting files to scan for viruses. To do this, click on the command " Select objects to check".
Next, a list of available objects will appear. I recommend checking the boxes next to all of them. But to check local disks (or the entire hard disk) for viruses, click on the command " Click to select files or folders".
A "Browse" dialog box will open in which I also recommend selecting all available local drives (if you wish, you can also removable ones). Then click the "OK" button.
Now everything is ready and configured to start scanning your computer for viruses. To do this, click " Run check".
After the scan is complete, you can either disinfect (if available) or delete each detected malicious file.
In the event that you are performing treatment outside of Safe Mode, we strongly recommend that you disable your main antivirus during the scan. This will greatly speed up the check and save you from possible unpleasant surprises.
2. Run the downloaded file.
If you have Windows 7 or 8, be sure to run the file as administrator (right-click on the file and select the appropriate item).
3. Agree to the request of Dr.Web CureIt! enable enhanced protection mode.
4. You agree to participate in the Customer Experience Improvement Program by checking the box and clicking “Continue”, otherwise the check will fail.
5. Before checking, go to "Options" by clicking in the upper right corner on the "key", select "Settings".
6. In the first tab “Basic” mark
- "Protect Dr.Web CureIt!",
- “Block access to the network” and
- “Automatically apply actions to threats”.
7. You don't need to change anything else in the settings. "OK".
For a full scan of the computer, click "Start scan", to select the scanned items, click "Select objects to scan".
For the first scan, I advise you to fully scan your computer.
8. After checking by the Dr.Web CureIt! the scan results window will appear, which shows the number of detected and neutralized threats, and below the list of disinfected, moved or deleted files is displayed.
9. If you find a deleted system file in the list and are afraid for the performance of Windows, then it is easy to restore it from quarantine by going to
“Options” → “Quarantine Manager”.
Mark the required file and click “Recover”.
Thus, you will not damage the system and will be able to re-scan for viruses with another scanner, such as or, which, perhaps, will cure the infected file, rather than delete it.

- tab File types (All files, Selected types, Preset masks);

Antivirus scan modes
Quick check
In this mode, the following objects are scanned:
- RAM;
- boot sectors of all disks;
- autorun objects;
- root directory of the boot disk;
- root directory of the installation disk Windows;
- system directory Windows;
- folder My Documents;
- temporary directory of the system;
- user's temporary directory.
Full check
This mode performs a full scan of all hard drives and (including boot sectors).
Selectively
This mode provides the ability to select any folders and files for subsequent scanning. The boot sectors of all disks will be scanned along with the selected objects.
Notes
1. By default, the program performs anti-virus scanning of all files using both virus databases and a heuristic analyzer (an algorithm that most likely detects viruses unknown to the program based on the general principles of their creation). During the scan, executable files packed with special packers are unpacked.

As you know, Dr.Web anti-viruses are distributed only for a fee, but the company invites users to try free scanner Dr.Web CureIt!... The utility is launched at a time to check the computer for viruses and malware and cannot be an alternative to a full-fledged antivirus that works in real time. However, Dr.Web CureIt! can be a good addition to protecting your computer if you use one of the free antivirus ... Then you can check the system from time to time with this scanner.

Downloading Dr.Web CureIt! and run.
A message is displayed in which you can select the start mode Dr.Web CureIt!... If you click OK , then until the end (or cancellation) of scanning, you will not be able to perform any actions with the computer. When the button is selected Cancellation , Dr.Web CureIt! will work like a normal application, in parallel with all other programs, without interfering with your actions (unless on weak machines everything will slow down terribly due to the fact that the computer will be busy with scanning, and the rest will simply not have enough resources).
In the next window, check the box that you agree that your computer's scan statistics will be sent to Dr.Web (this is a prerequisite for using the scanner for free). Then press the button Proceed .
Now we will produce some scanner setup before using. Click on the wrench in the upper right corner to open the options menu.
Put a tick opposite Automatically apply actions to threats so that for detection of the Dr.Web CureIt! immediately performed the specified actions (healed, deleted, etc.), and did not wait for the user's reaction.
If you do not want to wait for the end of the scan and turn off the computer manually (for example, if you put the scan at night), then check the box Turn off the computer after completing the check .
