What to do if headphones and speakers are working. When headphones are connected, sound remains in the speakers

"The sound goes through the speakers and through the headphones simultaneously"

In this case, we will talk about laptops, but it may be useful in the case of a stationary computer.

People ask about the following questions on the Internet: “When I connect headphones to a laptop, the sound in the speakers does not disappear, but is duplicated. It turns out that the sound goes directly through the headphones and through the speakers. Why? And how to fix it? "

Previously, a mechanical principle was used to mute speakers when connected with an earphone. Those. opening of contacts when a plug is inserted into the socket. So sometimes these contacts are stuck, or something else. It's rubbish, and some advise you to insert a screwdriver into the socket and hit it with a hammer (seriously, I read it myself). I highly do not recommend knocking on laptops with a hammer. It is better to give it to a specialist.

But, progress does not stand still, and in modern laptops, switching is carried out electronically or by software. Perhaps you have just such a case.

As a rule, the problem lies in the drivers, but first you should look in the sound card settings to see if there is something like switching sound between speakers and headphones. If you don't find anything, then just uninstall the sound card driver and restart your computer. In the case of Windows XP, you will need to immediately find and install the correct driver on the laptop manufacturer's website. But Windows 7 can choose the driver itself. If the sound appears, check how it works with the headphones. Switching occurs, then you can download again, as for XP, the correct driver and install it.

The problem was actually solved on the Lenovo B590 laptop. By the way, there is one common headphone jack plus a microphone. Therefore, some write that the headphones are not suitable or the length of the plug is not the same, all this is not important. The sound works and switches on regular headphones.

Yesterday my wife and I decided to watch a movie, but in order not to interfere with anyone it was necessary to distribute sound simultaneously to two pairs of headphones. Some headphones are simple wired, which simply intercept the sound from the speakers when they are connected to the laptop, and the second are wireless Qumi concord connected via bluetooth. Is it realistic to do this using standard Windows 7 tools?

It turned out to be quite real. Most computers these days come with a built-in sound card from RealTek. It is required that native drivers be installed on it, even not necessarily the latest ones, but not the ones that come with Win7 out of the box.

Now I have sound only in the speakers, and the microphone is used from wireless headphones. Open the Recording tab.

Then we turn on the display of all devices, even disabled according to the system.

I got the allegedly disabled software Stereo Mixer of my sound card. Then you need to turn it on.

And we choose to play it on your second audio output device. In my case, these are wireless headphones. After that, the system will start simultaneously outputting sound to the speakers (or the first headphones) and an additional device, such as wireless ones.

Do you often have to unplug and plug your headphones into your computer for reasons beyond your control? This is not very good because Frequent connection of headphones over time can lead to poor contact in the audio jack, this will affect the noise in the sound or even turn it off. Therefore, I recommend that you turn on your headphones and speakers at the same time so as not to wear out the equipment prematurely. Headphones and speakers playing at the same time can play simultaneously and below you will learn how to organize this.

Simultaneous audio playback on 2 pairs of wired headphones, or wired and wireless

This method works for paired wired headphones as well as wired and wireless. Similarly, using this method, you can connect headphones and speakers, the sound will be played simultaneously. I tested this method on a computer with a built-in Realtek sound card; on computers with a different sound chip, this method may not work.

Step 1 - playback devices

Find the speaker icon in the lower right corner of the screen, right-click on it, in the window that appears, select the "Playback Devices" menu.

Step 2 - recording devices

Now open the Recording Devices tab. You see a list of all devices connected to the computer that can record sound. Click on the empty space inside the window with the right mouse button, in the context menu that appears, select Show Disabled Devices.

Step 3 - stereo mixer

Now in the list of devices you have a hidden device called "Stereo Mixer". It will be in a disabled state, right-click on it and select "Enable".

Step 4 - listening setup

Right click on the Stereo Mixer device and select Properties. A window with several tabs will open, we are interested in the "Listen" tab. Enter it. Check the box "Listen from this device", and below in the drop-down menu, select the second headphones or speakers the sound you want to hear. If you want to simultaneously send audio to wired and wireless headphones, select Bluetooth headphones from the drop-down menu. Then click "OK".

That's it, now you should hear sound in two devices simultaneously. The method is universal, it works on most computers, but not on all. Likewise, you can set up simultaneous playback of sound on speakers and headphones.

Simultaneous playback on speakers and headphones in computers with a Realtek sound card

This method requires that your computer has a Realtek sound card and the latest official drivers for it.

Step 1 - Control Panel

Go to the control panel of your Windows computer. Click "start", find the "control panel" menu and click on it. If you have Windows 10, you need to click on "start", then start typing the word "panel" in Russian on the keyboard, your search will turn on, and in the first search results you will see the "control panel" menu. Click on it.

Once you got to the control panel, find the menu "Realtek HD Manager" or simply "Realtek HD". Start it up.

Step 2 - configuring Realtek

In the upper right corner of the Realtek settings, you will see the Advanced Device Settings menu. Click on it.

Step 3 - additional Realtek settings

Adjust the settings as you see them in the screenshot above.

Step 4 - connector parameters

Do you see where the mouse cursor is in the screenshot? Click on this yellow daddy, you will see a window for setting the connector parameters. Configure it the same way as you can see it in the screenshot, otherwise simultaneous playback of sound in headphones and speakers will not work.

That's all, now if you connect the headphones to the output on, and the speaker to the rear panel (or vice versa), then the sound will go simultaneously to both speakers and headphones. You no longer have to plug and unplug your headphones every time you need them.
