Intel WiDi. Instructions for use

Intel WiDi is a driver that enables information transfer via wireless technology. The program transmits information from the hard drive of a device located on the network (computer or laptop) to the “TV”. The TV should have this technology. The driver broadcasts content from the computer to the TV or third-party device.

Intel WiDi transmits the “picture” to the screen of mobile devices running Android OS. On new operating systems, this technology has been replaced by similar software - Miracast. This analogue is installed by default into the shell of the OS Windows operating system.

Purpose

With Intel WiDi, you can transfer data to your TV screen without using external hard drives or flash drives. Watch videos either on a TV or projector.

If your device has this technology, you don't need VGA and HDMI cables. You “transfer” the picture using a Wi-Fi access point. Download and install this driver and transfer information to the remote device.

Wireless Display uses similar DLNA technology. The DLNA server outputs data to the computer in limited formats. Intel WiDi provides full access to a remote device on the network and transmits information to a “second monitor”.
This technology is very convenient when making presentations. You can easily “transfer” data from your computer to a remote screen or projector.

Requirements

Wireless Display works fully if the “output” device has an integrated or connected WiDi adapter. Information is transferred after pairing (activating) both devices at a Wi-Fi network access point. You confirm and establish a connection, and then stream files without restrictions.

Intel WiDi does not work on all processors. New models of computing devices do not support this technology or fail due to software reasons.

Key Features

  • transferring images using a computer to a second screen of a network device running Android OS;
  • the program works after pairing via a Wi-Fi access point;
  • installation of the program and its configuration in quick mode;
  • the quality of the broadcast picture is very high (original);
  • New generation processors do not support some program functions, so Intel WiDi does not work properly;
  • convenient interface and simple shell with understandable functions even for a beginner.

But it is not always convenient to lay the cable; thanks to the cable, you are “tied” to a place and cannot move freely. There are technologies that will allow you to wirelessly display the screen of a laptop, netbook or tablet on a TV, one of these technologies is WiDi.

WiDi (Intel Wireless Display)- wireless transmission of content from a mobile device (laptop, ultrabook, tablet) to a TV (Smart TV), developed by Intel. The technology is based on the Wi-Fi standard. (Wikipedia).

In order to be able to connect your TV to a laptop/ultrabook/tablet using WiDi, it is necessary that each device supports this technology. No additional equipment (routers, routers, access points, etc.) is needed.

In order to understand whether your TV supports WiDi or not, you need to read its technical capabilities; it’s easier to do all this by going to the TV manufacturer’s website, find your model and get acquainted with the technical characteristics.

To understand whether your laptop/ultrabook or tablet supports WiDi technology, you need to met the requirements for WiDi , namely:

In order to see what processor, wireless adapter and graphics you use, I recommend reading the article -.

If your mobile device meets the requirements and your TV supports WiDi, you can set up a WiDi connection.

Enable WiDi on the TV.

In this example we will use a TV LG with WebOs, enable this feature on other TVs ( Samsung, Philips, Sony, Toshiba etc.), will occur by analogy.

Open the Smart Applications menu, to do this:

On a standard remote control, press the "Smart" button.

On the Magic Remote, press the "Home" button

Then open the full application menu.

Select "Screen Share".

Thus, you have enabled the WiDi function on your TV.

Enabling WiDi on a laptop, ultrabook, tablet.

In order to use WiDi technology on a laptop, ultrabook, tablet, you need to install the appropriate software. For this it is necessary download program for WiDi .

For Intel WiDi download Intel® Wireless Display Software for Windows, for Intel Pro WiDi - Intel® Pro WiDi Software for Windows.

Installing the program for WiDi is extremely simple and boils down to clicking the “Next” button and agreeing to the license agreement.

After installation, a shortcut will appear on your desktop Intel(R) WiDi.

Launch the Intel(R) WiDi application. When turned on, it automatically scans for the presence of wireless displays and, having found it, will offer to connect.

After agreeing to connect, numbers will appear on the TV that must be entered on the laptop, ultrabook, tablet in the Intel WiDi program. Then the connection will occur within a few seconds. As a result, everything you see on the screen of your mobile device will be displayed on your TV.

In addition to duplicating the image, the TV can be used as a second screen. To do this, press the "Win" + "P" key and select "Extend" (suitable for Windows 8/8.1, for Windows 7 follow the steps described below). Thanks to WiDi technology, your TV becomes a full-fledged monitor; you can change the resolution, screen orientation, etc. To do this, right-click on the desktop, select " Screen resolution"or come in "Control Panel" - "Display" - "Setting Screen Resolution".

In the window that opens, you can change the screen resolution, both on a laptop, ultrabook and on a TV, choose to expand or duplicate the image, and change the screen orientation.

To disable the WiDi connection, in the Intel WiDi application, on the corresponding wireless display, click "Disable".

General impression of WiDi.

WiDi is a great way to get rid of some wires in an apartment/house; in addition to a wireless connection that displays the screen from a laptop, ultrabook, tablet on a TV, it can act as a second monitor, which allows you to use one laptop or ultrabook by several people at once. For example, by expanding the screen, you can turn on a movie/presentation/photo on the TV, and at the same time surf the Internet, play a game, etc. on your laptop, ultrabook.

But this method of wireless connection has disadvantages, since this development by Intel has tightly linked this technology to its products and this technology can only be used on a limited number of laptops, ultrabooks and tablets. WiDi is also not suitable for demanding games, since processor graphics power is relatively scarce, plus there is a noticeable delay in video display on a mobile device and TV. It is a fraction of a second and will not prevent you from viewing videos, photos, presentations, but is critical for action games where instant reactions are required.

In my opinion, WiDi technology is a very good solution for wireless connection, and it is ideal for most tasks.

Pros of using WiDi:

1 Allows you to wirelessly connect mobile devices to your TV;

2 Supports high resolution FullHD (4K support will be available soon) + 5.1 sound;

3 It is possible to expand the screen (use the TV as a second monitor).

Disadvantages of using WiDi:

1 Not every device supports WiDi technology (this applies to laptops, ultrabooks, tablets and TVs);

2 Delay of a fraction of a second on the TV screen.

In our era of development of the information industry, it is quite difficult to impress a person. It would seem that just recently we could not imagine that in everyday life there would be “wall clocks with Wi-Fi” or “multi-cookers with the ability to set a cooking program via a smartphone.” However, on this page you can download Intel WiDi Russian version for Windows 7, 8, 10 for free - a program that is directly related to all this!

Telephone conversations and the diverse possibilities of the depth of the Internet have become completely ordinary for us. Technology is penetrating our lives more and more deeply. Everything that previously seemed impossible to us is now considered banal. In any case, Intel's latest Wireless Display technology is directly related to the above.

To easily understand the capabilities and benefits of the latest filigree thing, as well as our use of it in the future, you need to read a number of small chapters, which contain the main principles of building a wireless communication system between a computer and a TV, after which you can download the software.

Organization of the system on a wireless basis

Let's say you want to transfer a photo from your laptop to your TV screen. In this case, you can forget about using any cables. You have a dynamic environment at home: small children are running around the apartment, or your curious cat is showing interest in everything that excites his instinct. But what about the possibility of holding a holiday? Parties can be an occasion to create a “wireless connection.”

We believe that you understand the meaning. To most, this technology may seem expensive and unnecessary. But everyone dreamed of getting rid of wires. There may be an unlimited number of reasons for safer and more comfortable use of a “wireless” system, and all of them are based on objective everyday factors. The business benefits of using Wireless Display are enormous. Imagine an office where there are no connecting wires and plugs, no need to carry around a bunch of equipment for making a presentation.

The final argument for the excellence and usefulness of WiDi software is the significant reduction in time and effort required to create a visual system for synchronizing a computer with a TV. With the help of wireless technology, you have the opportunity to make it easier for the user to install and configure the system, relieving him of the activity of connecting various cords and plugs, spending a lot of time on this.

Very often it is not possible to check the serviceability of the connectors used: the basis for unstable operation of the system may be an external violation of the integrity of the wire cross-section. Repairing and replacing a damaged part and searching for a damaged area require time. It's time to get rid of unnecessary connecting elements!

Benefits of the Intel Wireless Display System

WiDi technology, with which you can simplify the procedure for sending media files from a computer to a TV screen, or to a TV modulator (for example, Smart TV) is another example of creating a connection between two devices without the use of wires and cables. Moreover, the WiDi system is more effective than its predecessor DLNA, namely, in the fact that when moving a laptop connected to a TV along different paths in the room, at the time of video transmission, no frame distortion occurs. The video is transmitted maintaining excellent quality. Concrete walls and ceilings do not interfere with data transmission.

We note that the basis for the creation of the technology was the Wi-Fi standard, due to the use of which most establishments have earned fame by allowing visitors to use open access to the Internet network by creating Wi-Fi entry points.

What devices can WiDi technology be used with?

In order for your TV to be able to synchronize with your computer, it must be equipped with an HDMI connector. Smart-TV modulators are an excellent example: they are equipped with Wi-Fi modules that support the Intel My Wi-Fi sample. It is really very easy to upgrade other multifunctional TVs by connecting a modular adapter. The cost of purchasing an additional module and an HDMI cable is incomparable with the benefits received from using it. And we guarantee this to you!

So, the absence of a tag with the name WiDi on the external case of your computer does not mean that it is impossible to use the technology described above. Make sure your laptop meets the following requirements:

  • The hardware includes an Intel Core i3 processor from the dual-core family (or better).
  • Graphics adapter no lower than Intel HD Graphics 2000.
  • Chip supporting Intel My Wi-Fi system.
  • OS Windows 7 and higher.

If at least one of the above requirements is not met, using WiDi technology will be difficult. Before installing the software, check your system to ensure it meets all requirements. We recommend using the CompatibilityChecker program, which will help make testing quick and simple.

Required software for WiDi

The time has come to talk about the main aspects of Intel Wireless Display technology. As you already know, without software that meets the identified requirements, the technology is ineffective. Therefore, if you find “magic” software on the Internet, the developers of which talk about increased productivity and functionality after installing the “miracle” driver, do not believe their words! Use only official software, thereby protecting your computer from the actions of intruders and malware.

Selecting and installing drivers

It doesn’t matter at all when you purchased your computer and from whom. It is necessary to test the performance and relevance of the available drivers. You can find out the necessary information using two ways. The first way is to use the Intel Driver Update Utility Installer utility program, it will automatically give you the necessary information and, if necessary, update the outdated driver.

The second way is the manual method; you will have to search for, download and install new drivers yourself. In the first option, you will not have any questions about WiDi technology, but when using the second approach, you should have an understanding of the process. For you, dear reader, everything will soon become clear.

After the update process, you need to download the software we are reviewing from the link below. Next, after downloading it, be sure to check that the operating system version matches the one on the laptop. Next comes the process of connecting the TV to the computer.

Finding and activating a device

Select the wireless adapter activation option from the TV options menu. Find the WiDi shortcut on your computer monitor and click on it. Next, a window should open: in it you must select the “Search” procedure. After the search has completed its work, the found devices will appear on the laptop screen: in our case, a TV. Click the "Connect" button. Dial the code that appears on the display and get the opportunity to transfer media files!

What if your TV device does not have a Wi-Fi adapter?

You must use WiDi technology using a Wi-Fi router. Today, due to the development of the retail network, it will not be difficult to find and buy this device. The Netgear Push2TV router recommended itself well. You don’t need to have specialist knowledge to connect the router to the system: even a novice user can do it perfectly. The instructions are simple - you need to connect the TV and router using an HDMI cable and select it in the TV options menu. We launch the Intel Wireless Display software on the laptop, and then activate the synchronization process.

Useful information about an effective supplement

If you want to expand the functionality of the application, then you need to install a small WiDi Remote software module. It can greatly facilitate the work with WiDi technologies. When using this software, a very useful ability appears to switch software from one monitor screen to another. By adding automatic connection to the root options of the application, you can start duplicating monitors in an instant.

In conclusion

No matter how complex the program may seem, in practice it is extremely simple. Everything is arranged quite clearly. But you just need to pay a little attention and patience in order to figure out how everything really works. Do you know what Intel Wireless Display Connection Manager is? If you do not have a DELL computer, then it is unlikely that you know this. And the answer to this question will be: the same WiDi driver! Yes, that's right, the same driver described above. The thing is, this is identical software, which is in the original packaging.

Thanks to your patience, you have sufficiently understood the basic principles of how a wireless connection works and are ready to create a WiDi connection yourself. You can find the entire list of necessary software and instructions for use above in this article. You will understand how beneficial it is to use this technology during its operation!

Thus, downloading Intel WiDi for Windows 10, 8, 7 is available using the link below. And be sure to tell your friends and acquaintances about Intel Wireless Display wireless technology. We will be glad if the article was useful to you. Leave your questions in the comments! Thank you for your attention!
