One of the oldest features of the iPhone, which not every owner of the gadget uses, is a reminder of birthdays and memorable dates. Proper notification will allow you to buy a gift for a loved one in advance or remember to congratulate a work colleague or acquaintance.

Unfortunately, this feature is disabled by default on new iPhones.

Entering birthday data manually

First, the smartphone needs to provide data about all memorable dates. If they are not fixed anywhere, you will have to drive them in manually for each contact.

1. Open the contact card in the application Telephone or Contacts and press Change in the upper right corner.

2. Scroll the list to the item add birthday, enter the date and press Ready.

Importing data from a Gmail account

If you've previously used an Android smartphone or simply kept an address book in Gmail, you can import birthday data from this service.

1. Let's go to Settings – Contacts – Accounts and choose Add an account.

2. After entering your login and password, check the boxes Contacts And Calendars. Your iPhone will download all the phones, emails, addresses, and birthdays from Gmail.

If the account you need has already been added to use mail in the standard Mail application, you just need to activate the switches Contacts And Calendars for this entry.

Setting up reminders

Now all that remains is to turn on birthday notifications. To do this we do the following:

1. Opening Settings - Calendar and go to the section Default reminders.

2. Click on the item Birthdays and select the appropriate type of reminder.

3. We check that system notifications are enabled for the Calendar application ( Settings – Notifications – Calendar).

iPhone can remind you about an upcoming holiday 1 or 2 days in advance, a week or on the day of the event. The entire list of dates will be displayed in the Calendar application.

For convenient viewing, you need to click on the Today button, and to hide other dates and holidays, you should go to the Calendars section and disable unnecessary ones.

We transfer data to all devices

When everything is set up on the iPhone, all that remains is to transfer memorable dates to other gadgets. An iCloud account will help us with this.

All you need to do is turn on calendar synchronization in the iCloud settings section. This must be done on all devices.

If you will use a different iCloud account on your computer, tablet or smartphone, and you need to duplicate birthday reminders, simply transfer the data using the method from the previous section.

Thank you to re:Store for the succinct and comprehensive instructions!

Numerous resources dedicated to Apple gadgets like to make daily digests on iOS applications that have become worthless for some time. As a rule, application developers organize such promotions with the aim of promoting and popularizing their creation. On the other hand, users happily accept such generous gifts, because it is always nice to receive paid software for free use. However, very often this is nothing more than cluttering your iOS device, because an application with similar functionality has already been installed by Apple itself, but for some reason you did not know this, and no one has canceled the prejudices about the software pre-installed by the manufacturer .

So I recently discovered for myself that the pre-installed Reminders application is no worse than programs of the same kind with different creative names from third-party developers.

When we launch the application, we see a lined piece of notebook paper with the title of the list in capital.

To see all the lists, you need to click on the leaves at the bottom of the screen. If you have family members that you have added to iCloud, then you will automatically have a common list called “Family”. You can also create a new list here.

The reminder lists you create can be shared with people in your contacts.

To create a new reminder, just press your finger in the free line and enter the name. To configure reminder settings, click on the icon after the reminder name.

In the list that appears you can configure:

  • reminder date and time;
  • reminder location (upon arrival at this place or when you leave it);
  • degree of priority (determined by the number of exclamation marks);
  • which list to assign the reminder to (if you created a reminder in an inappropriate list);
  • add notes that relate to this reminder.

This application can sync between your iOS and Mac OS devices, and from other platforms you can access reminders through the iCloud web interface.

The Reminders application is available on iOS and Mac OS, has all the necessary functionality, a sleek, intuitive interface and instant synchronization via iCloud. Under such conditions, it is hardly worth looking for a similar application from another developer, which will only increase the battery consumption of your device.

If you find an error, please highlight a piece of text and click Ctrl+Enter.

The developers of the Apple operating system made sure that the iPhone owner was able to set “reminders” about important matters. A large number of users have already appreciated the standard iOS Reminders application. In new versions of the system, its capabilities have expanded: more fine-tuning functions have appeared, and it has become possible to specify the type and period of repetitions. Not all users know how to set a reminder on iPhone correctly.

An important function of reminders before the update, which iPhone users dreamed of, was the ability to set up event repetitions. Now setting a “reminder” with this option has become quite simple:

This completes the process of creating a reminder. To display a reminder on the iPhone screen, no additional steps are required. The device itself will display a message on the lock screen exactly at the set time.

If you need to make a reminder with sound, there is no need to add a ringtone. The system uses standard alert tones, with virtually no possibility of adjustment.

Voice assistant help

On the unlocked screen, hold down the Home button at the bottom of the smartphone. Wait for the Siri page to appear.

Ask to create a reminder. To do this, just say something like: “Siri, remind me that the planning meeting will be held on September 3 at 14-00.” The assistant will complete the task, automatically creating a reminder.

The disadvantages of this method are the requirement for high-speed Internet, which is necessary for Siri to work. And also the lack of ability to configure repetitions by voice.

Birthday Reminders

A useful feature is the ability to set alerts about upcoming birthdays. To prepare to activate reminders, you will first need to enter your date information. This is done quite simply:

After this, you can start displaying birthday “reminders” on the main iPhone screen. To do this, follow the steps of the following instructions step by step:

If the user has several Apple devices, it will be easier to create “reminders” on each of them. To do this, there is no need to manually duplicate memorable dates on each device. All you need to do is use the iCloud cloud service.

Go from the main page to the settings section, and then to the iCloud option. We check that calendar synchronization is in the “Enable” position. Now, provided the device is connected to the Internet, all “reminders” will become available on each device.

Conclusion

So, we can simply and effortlessly turn our smartphone into a personal assistant, reminding us not to miss a business meeting or an important person’s birthday. Voice control allows you to set a reminder and set it up even faster and more conveniently.
