How to return the default xiaomi font. The nuances of changing the font on a Xiaomi phone

Font Product Sans debuted in firmware Android 8 Oreo. The font is simple and beautiful, the text is easy to read at any scale. We really appreciated the shape of this font, as it is the one used in the Google logo. For example, remember the ubiquitous “G” trademark. Yes, yes, it's all Product Sans.

Installing the Product Sans font in MIUI

Until recently, only users of Google smartphones could use this font. But even if you have such a smartphone, Product Sans is not used in all Android Oreo user interfaces. For example, on the Pixel 2 this font can only be found on the lock screen, settings, and the watch app.

Fortunately, modders have found a way to use the font on almost any firmware. They extracted Product Sans from Android 8.1 Developer Preview and made it usable in ROMs such as:

Stock firmware from manufacturers
custom firmware: based on AOSP. For example LineageOS
MIUI firmware: MIUI Pro, Mi-Globe, Epic ROM, Xiaomi.EU
official MIUI: global, beta versions of MIUI 8/9

If you are a MIUI user, then you are in luck. By following our instructions, you will finally be able to update your device's UI with the Product Sans font.

First method: installation using TWRP

The installation process is much easier if you already have TWRP on your smartphone.

1. Download the zip archive and place it in the smartphone’s memory, preferably in the root folder.
2. Reboot your smartphone into TWRP
3. Follow the following path: Backup -> System -> Install

  1. Find and select the downloaded archive
    5. After installation, simply restart your smartphone

If you are not satisfied with the font, you can always return to the default font settings.

To do this, simply click “Restore system” in TWRP.

Method two: installation without TWRP

If you don’t want to do scary things with your smartphone that you’re not very good at, then that’s okay, the font can be installed in this case too.

  1. Download this .mtz file and place it in the internal memory of your smartphone
  2. Open the MIUI Theme Editor app (you can download it from Google Play)
    3. In the application, click Themes -> Import
    4. Select the downloaded .mtz file
  3. Once all the previous steps are completed, the program will add Product Sans to the font list. So you can select it and reboot your phone for the changes to take effect.

After that, take a couple of minutes and check how the font displays in different applications. If you don't like something, then return to MIUI Theme Editor and re-set the system font settings. Don't forget to reboot.

P.S. There is a bug where MIUI can make Product Sans bold or italic, or vice versa, not display such a font when necessary. In this case, you have no choice but to install the font via TWRP (the first method of our instructions)

P.P.S. If you have various ad blockers installed, temporarily disable them when using MIUI Theme Editor, otherwise the program will curse and close.

Have you installed this font for yourself? Do you have any problems? Tell us about it in the comments :)

Until recently, I didn’t think at all about how to change the font on my Xiaomi, but when I accidentally looked into my mother’s phone, I realized what I was missing. The huge digits of the number, which she dials in the old fashioned way from a notebook, can be read without glasses. It seemed attractive and convenient to me, so I decided to set up a faithful assistant.

Wandering through the vast expanses of the Internet, I endlessly came across instructions that, upon closer examination, raised a large number of questions. The thing is that when a new version of MIUI is released, the settings change, some radically. In other words, what was relevant a couple of years ago is completely unsuitable for the current version of MIUI 9. In addition, it is a mistake to mention the phone brand in this regard; you only need to focus on the current version of the firmware.

The proprietary shell offers a very real and affordable way to change the font. On our already outdated Xiaomi Redmi 4, which was updated not so long ago to global firmware 9.5.3.0, this method works, we will consider it fully working at the moment.

So what do we have? There is only one font on your smartphone, it is installed by default. We will not be able to modify or change its style, so all subsequent actions will be related to its replacement. To select a new font type, follow simple criteria.

Firstly, it must be based on the Cyrillic alphabet and have both Russian and English letters in its set.

Secondly, when downloading, you need to pay attention to its format - mtz. Thus, the installation package is designated with which the applications that form the final picture of the transition will work.

If we go standard, all this can be neglected. The smartphone itself will determine and install what you need, you just need to choose the design you like.

Go to Topics and write “moby” in the search.

Select - View all, several dozen fonts will appear in front of you.

Download the style you like and install it on your phone.

To apply the font, the device will reboot, and when finished, enjoy the resulting views.

The procedure can be repeated several times. I’ll explain why a little later.

I should note that using the resources of the smartphone when changing the font, we thereby enter it into the system files and subsequently it can be easily changed to another option. If you simply download the installation package, the device may not see it and, accordingly, may not use it.

Many questions arise from users who are dissatisfied with the results obtained about returning to the previous state. Returning the standard font will also not be difficult.

It is possible to return to the font from the manufacturer when changing the theme. You use another theme and it’s yours, it’s the default.

It would seem that it could be simpler, but we are not looking for easy solutions. Another method is based on installing the Quick Shortcut Maker application, which can be found in the Play Store.

After you have downloaded and installed it, the necessary steps are:

I repeat, here there will be fonts only from the “Themes” utility. And only them you can control. This is about the question of where and what to look for.

As an alternative, I propose another method; it will be suitable for those who, for some reason, could not understand the proposed program. I read such angry messages that I wanted to hide in a distant place so that the “deceived” users would miss you.

This method is very close in meaning to the one described, but much simpler. Go to advanced settings and change the region from Russia to India. Don't worry, don't edit anything on your phone for a couple of minutes. Then go to the “Themes” tab and click on the circle at the very bottom with a funny face. A menu will appear in front of you, in which there is a “Fonts” item. Change them to your health without installing any additional settings icon. All your previously downloaded and installed fonts are located here, including the default ones.

Then change the region to Russia.

Changing the font size

The simplest thing you can do if you are planning to change at least something on your phone.

Go to “Settings” - “Display” and select the text size.

There will be six options for displaying inscriptions on the screen from very small to giant sizes. The abbreviation is like in a clothing store, from XS to XXL. By moving the slider from left to right, we increase the size; the letters will demonstrate their real growth. You can move the view to the screen itself (here) and admire the resulting effect.

I immediately decided to make the letters larger and moved the slider to the right, but then returned to the usual small S. Habit is second nature. It's like something is missing.

Please do not look for settings in other places and complain about their absence. The Chinese do not sit idly by and are always changing something.

We get the status of a designer

Changing the font on Xiaomi phones today is not difficult. There were some troubles, mainly related to the global version of the firmware, but they are a thing of the past. A couple of years ago it seemed quite crude and the process of designing a new theme or font according to the already described scenario stopped with an error.

“Gurus” immediately appeared, claiming that changing the font is only possible if you have the proud title of designer at your disposal. Neither then, nor even more so now, this is true. The presence of this status simplifies the change procedure, but that’s all.

Let's look a little at this issue; besides, even now it has not lost some relevance.

First, we will get permission from the Chinese. Let's go by

As a rule, Xiaomi phones completely satisfy their customers. But some of the most demanding users seek to further customize their smartphones. One such requested change is changing the screen font. In this article we will look at the question of how to change the font on Xiaomi running MIUI?

There are two versions of Xiaomi software: for Chinese users and for other global users. Changing the font is only available in the Chinese version of the software, but despite all the difficulties, we will share a few tips for changing without rooting your device.

There are several ways to change fonts on Xiaomi smartphones. The first is the root method, after which you need to install the iFont application. In this application you can download fonts directly. But for this method, you need to unlock the bootloader and then gain root privileges.

But the second option that we want to offer you does not require additional rooting of the device. Moreover, it will work in any update. Moving on to the list of supported devices, changing the font style will work on all devices including Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, Note 5 Plus, 4, Mi 4i, Mi 5, Mi 6, Mi Max, Mi Mix, Mi Note 2, Redmi 2/Prime and in the future mobile series.

Standard font size change

As a rule, Xiaomi devices have three default font sizes: L, M, S (in some versions it can reach up to 5 sizes). You can increase or decrease the size by calling the settings menu – Screen (or “Advanced”) – Text size. The location of the option may vary depending on the version. By default, size M is selected in all smartphones.

Sometimes it happens that the “Fonts” item is not at all in the settings menu. It all depends on what firmware the developer loaded into the device. As a rule, this is done in order to protect the smartphone from an inexperienced user. You can get full access to advanced settings if the owner of the smartphone receives designer rights in his Mi Account on the official website. But there is another way, which we will consider in the next paragraph.

Changing the font through the application

Before you start working with the pre-installed Themes application, you must log in to your MI account, which must be linked to the device. Then you need to follow several steps:

  1. Open the “Themes” application and enter the query “moby” into the search form, then select the first result in the search results.
  2. A list of fonts appears in the results. Tap View All to see all available options.
  3. Select the style that you like and click “Download”. When the download is complete, click on the “Apply” button.
  4. Reboot your device.

As soon as the smartphone restarts, you will see the new installed font on the screen.

You can also import a pre-made font by selecting offline mode in the Themes app.

Returning the standard font

Sometimes situations arise when you need to return the font to the standard one. The easiest option is to change the theme to one of the preset ones. But there is another way.

It is necessary to create a special shortcut that will display the font menu in MIUI, hidden from users. To do this, you need to download the application to your phone. QuickShortcutMaker.

  • completely free;
  • supports multilingualism;
  • flexible settings menu;

After installation, launch the application from the menu and follow these steps:

  1. For any application in MIUI to work correctly, grant all necessary rights to it. You can do this by running Settings – Permissions – Other permissions. Are looking for QuickShortcutMaker and grant the right to add shortcuts to the desktop.
  2. In the running application, enter the keyword to search for “Settings”, find it and open it.
  3. Among the list of settings, look for “Font” and click on it.
  4. Change the name of the label: click the item to change the label. Now the shortcut can be created.
  5. We close the application and look on the desktop for the new shortcut that we just created. In the menu that appears, you can now choose not only the font style, but also its size.

In the menu that opens, you can see how the text will look when changing its size and how it will look on the desktop (to do this, swipe the screen from right to left as shown in the screenshot below):

Everything should be clear here - drag the slider at the bottom of the screen, look at the result and click OK.

Changing the font type

To do this, open the “Themes” application and write the word in the search bar moby and select the top line:

Here we select the font we like, click on it, click “Download” at the bottom of the screen and after downloading click “Apply”

How can I return the default font?

To return to the standard font you need to change the theme, but there is another way. You can create a special shortcut that brings up the font menu. For this we need a program QuickShortcutMaker. Download it from the Play Market and install it.

After installation, you need to give the application permission to create shortcuts. To do this we open Settings > Permissions > Other permissions

Find QuickShortcutMaker in the list and activate the “Desktop Shortcuts” item by clicking “Allow”

Now open the application, write in the search bar Settings and find the item of the same name:

Click on it and a bunch of sub-items will appear - look for the line that says “Font”. Let's go to it and before creating the shortcut, give it a name by clicking on the top line (see screenshot below)

A wide range of settings available on Xiaomi smartphones allow the user to customize the device as much as possible, including making various manipulations with the font used.

Depending on the MIUI shell used, there may be 3, 5 or even more font options. By default, the medium size, denoted by the letter M, is used.

Font change options

Replacing the font is possible in two ways: downloading or purchasing from Xiaomi Market. It is also possible to upload your own version, the main thing is that they all have the mtz format.

To download your version, you need to click “Select font” in the “Font” section, and also go to the “offline” tab. The path usually used to place them is: smartphone memory/Miui/theme.

It is also possible to download fonts from the official store, for this you need:

Changing the font using the QuickShortcutMaker application

Using this program to create shortcuts is considered the official way to replace fonts.

After installing it, perform the following steps:

For the changes to take effect, you must restart your smartphone.

If an error occurs during the installation process, the Mi account needs to be assigned designer status.

Obtaining designer status

Having the status of a designer provides the opportunity to download various fonts for free and perform various manipulations with them. Becoming a “designer” is quite simple, for this you should:

Change through third-party programs

Using third-party programs, the most common is iFont, which contains many fonts, allows you to change fonts only in newly installed applications. In the operating system and standard applications, the font remains the same.

In most cases, replacing fonts in third-party programs also requires Root rights, which significantly limits their use.

Installing the font by changing the region

In some cases, to replace the font, you can try changing the region of use of your Xiaomi smartphone. To do this, go to “Settings”, then go to “Advanced settings”, select “Region” and set “India”.

After this, go to “Themes”, where the font settings menu should appear. Once the manipulations are complete, you can return your region.
