Speed tests

LAN data transfer rate shows better results than LAN-WAN. However, despite this, it remains very high and it will be enough to work in the networks of our providers. The speed is approximately 150 Mbps. Considering that most providers do not provide users with Internet speeds higher than 100 Mbit / s, ZyXEL Keenetic 4G III will be the ideal solution for your home.

Management is performed using the web interface or via Telnet. The list of pluses is quite impressive. What is actually hidden in the box? A profitable quality product or a dummy for a lot of money. Let's analyze further!

What does it look like?

The router is plastic, has a black case with a ribbed surface on top. All icons and inscriptions are neatly and contrastingly applied, so that they are visible even in poor lighting conditions, the port marking on the rear panel is colored - the incoming port is blue, the additional ones are yellow. At the top in the corner there is an on / off button for the router. The antennas are made of plastic, but inside they have metal elements that conduct the connection. The weakest part of the antenna is the adjoining element, which can break off if not handled carefully.

The control panel (Internet center) looks simple and understandable, there is a Russian language, all the tabs are arranged in a convenient sequence.

At first glance, everything is good! All routers are fragile and brittle, there are no obvious flaws.

Preparation for work

Before configuring the Zyxel Keenetic 4G III router, you need to complete some preliminary steps.

The bundle with the router comes with a charger, a cable for connecting to a modem (there is a convenient Velcro fastener for attaching to a window), and an Ethernet switch. It is recommended to study the instructions, check the router for battery charging and start the setup process.

ATTENTION! If the battery or the router itself is discharged, or not charged enough, an irreparable failure may occur during the firmware, after which the router will be unusable.

Automatic tuning

When the user sees a huge number of parameters and lines, he asks himself the question "How to set up the device automatically?" There is such a function. Before configuring the router, you need to make sure that the system has enabled the function to automatically obtain network settings. In order to enable this function, you need to go to the Network and Sharing Center, to the "Adapter Settings" item. Find the IPv4 protocol in the properties of your active connection. The parameters of this protocol must be set to automatically receive network information. When connected to a PC, the router interface opens automatically. If it did not open automatically, you need to create a new tab in the browser and enter the address "192.168.1.1." If the user configures the Internet for his own purposes and the configuration of his network is standard, you need to select the "Quick setup" item, if not, you need to select the "Web configurator" item, in which you can change all the parameters manually.

To configure the router through the "Quick setup" you need to click on the corresponding button. Next, the user will be prompted to select a country, region, provider. After that, you need to enter your login password to access the Internet (this information is in the agreement with the provider). Confirm the installation, after which you need a router. This completes the setup. As a result, a window with connection parameters and all data should appear.

Moderately complex setup process, however, you can cope.

Manually connect to the internet

Now let's look at the configuration method through the "Web configurator".

  1. When you first log in, you will need to enter a password from the web interface. It is recommended that you set a strong password to make it harder for viruses to guess.
  2. Next, you need to log into the system, for this you need to enter the admin login and password (the one you just thought of).
  3. General information about the Internet connection, the firmware version, and the operating time will open.
  4. We need to go to the "Internet" tab and select "Connection Protocol". Most likely, PPoE / VPN will suit us, since this protocol is observed by most users (if you have a different protocol, you know 100% about it).
  5. Next, you need to click on the "Add connection" button.
  6. In the window that opens, you need to specify the parameters of the provider, namely: its name, connection type, protocol type, password for the Internet connection, authentication method, service name, hub name, setting IP parameters, DNS server.

The router supports the following modems:

  • Megafon
  • Tele 2
  • Beeline
  • Skylink
  • Rostelecom

Backup connection via 3G / 4G

When the modem is connected to a Zyxel Keenetic 4G router, the settings are performed automatically. The connected device can be seen in the "USB" tab or in the "Internet" tab, in the "3G / 4G" sub-item. If this does not happen, then the problem is with the modem, since the router does not create an Internet connection, but only distributes it via WI-FI or Ethernet cables. You can create a bootable flash drive with configurations that can be loaded when connected to a router. A convenient USB connector will allow you to install a flash drive in a convenient place where it will not interfere with the work process.

A useful feature to help the user configure the connection if the expert who created the storage drive is not around.

Individual settings for user connection

Port forwarding

Also, it will not be superfluous to carry out the port forwarding / forwarding procedure to improve the quality of the connection and debug remote access for multimedia devices. For this you need:

  1. Go to the router interface, to the "Home network" tab, then go to the "Devices" tab and click on the line with the desired connection.
  2. A dialog box will open for registering the device in the network, where you need to check the box next to the "Permanent address" field and click the "Register" button.
  3. After that, go to the Security menu in the Network Address Translation sub-item and click the Add Rule button.
  4. Next, you need to fill in the following fields: interface, protocol, TCP / UDP protocol and the address to which our connection will be sent to me.

ATTENTION! It should be noted that this is not an obligatory function, but it significantly expands the functionality and quality of the device. If the reader wants to perform this operation, it is recommended that you familiarize yourself in detail with the algorithms for forwarding and creating ports.

Parental control

In order to establish parental control, you need:

  1. go to the "Home network" menu in the device tab, and then select your connection.
  2. You need to press the "Register" button.
  3. Then go to the "System" menu on the "Schedule" tab, where you can set the days and times during which the Internet will be active or disabled.
  4. You can also use one of the filtering mechanisms such as Yandex.DNS or Sky.DNS. These are mechanisms to protect the Internet connection from inappropriate content, which filter sites with suspicious content.

REFERENCE! Be sure to remember the password from the router and the password from the control panel, since any failure of parental control that takes place can disrupt the operation of the device, and the only chance to return the router to factory settings and restore the connection without third-party intervention is control through the router interface, but for this you need to remember the login data. The default password is "admin".

Speaking of crashes, some users often note that the router sets parental controls at will, from time to time turning on the Internet on certain devices, while it works great on other devices on the network.

This function can cut the connection speed or distort information from sites, hiding ads, banners, as well as block the operation of some Android devices on which custom firmware is installed and root rights are unlocked. It is recommended to add Yandex DNS addresses to the exclusion lists of your smartphone's firewall so that Yandex does not filter traffic and scripts using its own methods, and only Android system tools work.

Turn on the function at your own peril and risk, as it works very crookedly.

Possible malfunctions and ways to eliminate them

  • The most common problem faced by users is constant crashes when downloading torrents or an online game that requires a constant Internet connection. It is recommended to disable the update, do not connect more than three devices at the same time, configure the communication channel manually, while you need to set a permanent IP, as this will solve most problems.
  • Another common problem: the router does not distribute the connection, that is, the device connects to it, but the Internet does not come. In this case, the problem may be either a failure of DNS servers, or an incorrectly installed information transfer protocol. It is highly recommended to re-read the instructions again and configure the router strictly following it. If all else fails, you need to reset the router settings via the web interface or using the button on the case.
  • Devices do not connect to the router, or they connect and crash. This may be due to a frequency band conflict. To solve this bug, you may need the Advanced IP Scanner program, which can test the network and show free channels on which there is no heavy traffic and channels that are almost always clogged. With the help of it, you need to distribute the network in such a way that all devices can connect to the channels without overloading. You can correct the error manually in the "Mode" tab.

ATTENTION! another reason is a failure of the parental control system, which can periodically turn on and off the router.

For inexperienced users, only one solution is obvious - this is a factory reset or updating the router firmware and re-configuring from scratch. Remember that improper manipulation of equipment can damage the command shell, after which you will have to buy a new router, since the old one will no longer be usable.
Frequent complaints about the speed limit are most likely connected not with the configuration of the router itself, but with the limitations of the modem and provider. Although, as a result of incorrect manipulations with specifying the protocol and DNS addresses of the network, the speed can drop down to 1 Mbps. Also, a VPN network or various kinds of encryption can affect the speed reduction and slowdown. The router already has a built-in VPN system that partially encrypts traffic and lets it through a large network of nodes.
Firmware upgrade

There are two ways to update the firmware:

The first way is to go to the web interface and select the "System" tab. Click "Select direction" (there you can see the components that are subject to updating and click the "Update" button). Then the router will automatically download and install the update and restart. After a couple of minutes, you can see that the firmware version has changed, and the router is ready to use.
The second way is manual. You need to go to the supplier's official website and download the firmware for your operating system. Go to the "Support" tab, the "Firmware version" sub-item, where you will need to specify the path to the downloaded file and start the installation process. In these two ways, you can update the firmware. Now you need to go to the next step - in the WI-FI settings, specify the network parameters and configure the connection, according to the above instructions.
The third way is the built-in Windows methods. To do this, go to the "Device Manager", select our router and remove its drivers. Next, you need to go to the "Device Information" section, select the "Device ID" parameter. By copying this line into a search engine, you can download the current driver version and install in two clicks.
Let us briefly summarize this point: most users will not be able to cope with the automatic loading of drivers, so the manufacturer in vain did not consider it necessary to create software for a "one-button" update. Nevertheless, by strictly following the instructions, you can quickly change the firmware and restore the operating mode, because the update is carried out in a semi-automatic mode. Before downloading new software, it is recommended to remove the old one and reset the settings so as not to provoke file conflicts and double sends to the control buses.

There are not so many frequent breakdowns for such a budget model. It could be worse.

Conclusion

We hope that our article did not turn out to be too difficult for the reader and it helped in setting up the Zyxel Keenetic 4G III router and debugging the Internet connection. Despite the fact that at first glance, the setting seems complicated and incomprehensible, the main stages of the procedure can be distinguished:

  • unpacking the basic configuration, and connecting the device to the network;
    switching a device with a modem or Ethernet cable;
  • next comes the setting. It is recommended to select "Automatic configuration", as this is the shortest and most reliable way to configure the Internet connection;
  • then you need to choose to perform "port forwarding" to gain remote access to devices and improve the infrastructure of the Internet connection;
  • after that, you need to update the firmware and install a Firewall to protect the router from viruses and extraneous content.

Summing up, we can say that the router belongs to the budget class, it often breaks down, makes adjustments to the Internet connection and limits the speed. It is perfect for people who use the Internet for educational and work purposes, for fans of watching movies and online games, the router is most likely not suitable, nevertheless, for many people it will be a window to the world of the Internet.

Now none of our readers will have a question: “How to set up a Zyxel Keenetic 4G router»?

The present time is characterized by the rapid development of information technologies, which are actively penetrating into all spheres of human activity. The scope of the Internet is expanding more and more, in particular, the coverage area of 3G and 4G is constantly growing.

In this regard, users' demands for the provision of high-quality network equipment are increasing. Users no longer want to be content with a conventional switch or wireless router, but want to have at their disposal a real Internet center with a wide range of functions and the ability to connect a wide variety of devices to one network.

The Zyxel Keenetic 4G router of generation III, the review of which the article is devoted to, belongs to the devices with which these requests are satisfied.

Zyxel's Keenetic series routers appeared on the market in 2010, and since then have firmly held the leading position among devices of this purpose. They attract with a large set of functions at an affordable price. All this is combined with the high reliability of Zixel products.

The 4G III model is among the latest developments, but it already has two revisions, which allows it to support the functions that are currently in demand.

Despite the large list of device functions, it should be understood that Keenetic 4G is aimed at the mass consumer and is not able to satisfy the individual needs of the consumer. It has no buttons with modifiable functions, and it is also impossible:

  • dLNA server support;
  • setting up a torrent client;
  • connecting a printer, since the USB port serves only for connecting a 3G or 4G modem;
  • update via USB for the same reason.

External in id

Keenetic 4G is a compact device in a rectangular black case with dimensions of 140x110x30 mm. The Zyxel logo is printed on the top, along with a sticker listing the technical specifications of the router. It has no practical value, so it is better to remove it for better cooling of the device. The WPS button is located in the lower right corner.

The front panel of Keenetic 4G does not have any controls. There is a number of indicators illuminated from within in the form of pictograms that display the current state of the device, its mode of operation.

At the bottom of the router case, there are feet for installing it on a flat surface. If necessary, you can hang Keenetic 4G on the wall. For this, the two legs have corresponding holes. On the central part of the lower part of the Keenetic 4G case, there is a sticker with the following device parameters:

  • serial number;
  • keenetic website address;
  • WAN MAC address;
  • The device's default IP address;
  • name and password of the wireless network.

The back panel of Keenetic 4G, where the ports for connecting to local and global networks are located, is more interesting for the user. The number of ports differs depending on the revision of the device:

  • revision A: 4 LAN ports and WAN;
  • in revision B: 1 LAN port and WAN.

This configuration indicates that the manufacturer will focus on supporting the wireless network in the future development of this model range. The LAN and Internet connectors are color coded, making them easy to recognize even for a novice user.

In revision B Keenetic 4G on the back panel, in addition to ports for network connections, there is also a USB 2.0 port. In the previous revision, it was located on the left side of the router. Now there are only ventilation holes, two 5 dBi antennas, which provides a wide range of Wi-Fi signal propagation. Also on the back panel of Keenetic 4G there is a Reset button and a connector for connecting a power supply.

Connection and preparation for work

Preparing for work, configuring the Zyxel Keenetic 4G router includes actions common to all routers:

  1. choice of device location;
  2. power connection;
  3. connection to a computer or laptop (if necessary);
  4. connection via the WAN port with the provider, if a cable is used;
  5. network connection presets on the PC, if required.

When choosing a location for the Kinetic Center, one should take into account the presence of obstacles that can impede the propagation of the Wi-Fi signal, the availability of an electrical outlet, as well as the presence of electrical devices near the router that affect its operation.

If you connect to the Internet via a 3G or 4G modem, you need to make sure that Keenetic is located in a place with the best network coverage. If the walls of an apartment or house obstruct the signal propagation, a specially designed USB extension cable with a suction cup is used, which allows you to fix the modem on a window where the signal is always better. With very poor coverage, you will have to use an external antenna.

Immediately after turning on the power, the Wi-Fi access point is automatically activated in Keenetic 4G. Therefore, to enter the device's web interface, the physical connection between the computer and the router is not used. However, most experts advise making its initial configuration via a wired connection.

As for the parameters of the network connection on the computer, often the default settings provide for automatic obtaining of the IP address, gateway, and DNS server settings. Thus, nothing is usually configured to connect to the router. But if you have previously used parameters other than those indicated above, you need to bring them in line with the router settings.

Automatic tuning

Having installed and turned on the router, proceed to configure it. To do this, enter 192.168.1.1 in the address bar of the browser, and login and password in the authorization window. As with most similar devices, this is an admin-admin pair. After that, a window will open where you will be immediately prompted to change the password. After doing this, the user is taken to the Keenetic 4G web interface.

The firmware of the 4G router provides for the ability to quickly configure the device, during which the user only needs to answer the “Setup Wizard” questions. To start the firmware, you must click on the button with the corresponding inscription at the bottom of the page. Further tuning takes place in two different scenarios. It depends on what type of internet connection the user has chosen.

If the connection is via a 3G or 4G modem, a message about the modem detection will be displayed on the screen. After that, you need to click on the "Next" button. Thus, the transition to each subsequent step is carried out, namely:

  • Keenetic 4G firmware update. Updates are checked automatically. If a new firmware version is available, you will be prompted to click the Update button. Without this step, further configuration is not possible.
  • Enabling Yandex DNS. This service is optional. If the user does not need it, you can skip the checkbox to enable it, but simply click on the "Next" button.

After completing these two steps, a window will open showing the general parameters of the device. There are two buttons at the bottom of the window. By clicking on the "Web Configurator", configure additional functions of your Zyxel Keenetic 4G router. If this is not necessary, establish an Internet connection using the second button.

When connected via the WAN port, Keenetic 4G of the third generation will also inform about the discovery of the device. The user will then be prompted for the following steps:

  • Country selection. It needs to be done with a simple mouse click on the name.
  • Region selection. Produced from the dropdown list.
  • Choosing a provider. This is done in the same way as choosing a region. If the provider is not in the list, you need to check the box next to the corresponding inscription.
  • Entering the login and password received from the provider.

Next, you will be prompted to update the firmware and connect Yandex DNS, as in the case of a 4G modem. In the same way, the user will be shown the general parameters of the device at the end, he will be prompted to go to the web configurator or go to the Internet. This completes the quick setup of Keenetic 4G.

internet manually on the example of some providers

Despite the fact that the configuration of the Zyxel Keenetic 4G model III router is carried out in automatic mode, users prefer to do it manually. The process has its own characteristics, depending on which provider provides access to the Internet.

Dom.ru and Rostelecom

These two providers use the same type of network connection, so Keenetic 4G is configured for them in the same way. To do this, you need to do the following:

  1. Go to the web interface of the router, enter the "Internet" menu.
  2. On the tabs with connection types, select PPPoE / VPN, click on the "Add connection" button.
  3. In the appeared window of parameters, select PPPoE in the "Protocol type" line, and also enter the login and password specified in the agreement with the provider in the corresponding lines.

After completing the steps described above, all that remains is to click on the "Apply" button. After a few moments, the internet connection will be established.

Beeline

Unlike the previous two providers, Beeline uses a different Internet connection protocol. Therefore, Keenetic 4G for it needs to be configured a little differently:

  1. Follow the first two steps in the same way as in the previous section.
  2. In the connection settings window, in the "Protocol type" line, specify L2TP.
  3. Enter your username and password in the appropriate lines.
  4. In the line "Server address" enter tp.internet.beeline.ru.

After clicking the "Apply" button, everything should work.

NetByNet

The NetByNet provider differs from others in that it uses the client's MAC address registration to connect to the Internet. To configure Keenetic4G to work with it, you must:

If you select "Get from your PC" in the MAC address line, the MAC address will be cloned from the user's computer. Network access will only be allowed for this PC. Therefore, it is worth considering carefully setting this parameter.

Reserveconnection via 3G, 4G

With regard to Keenetic, calling a 4G or 3G connection a backup would not be entirely correct. The manufacturer emphasizes that this model range is the optimal solution for working with such networks.

The technical specifications of Keenetic 4G indicate that the device supports 150 types of USB modems. Therefore, there are usually no problems with their detection and connection. Providers sell such modems with pre-set parameters to work with them. Therefore, it is enough to plug it into the USB connector on Keenetic, use automatic setup to make everything work. Manually connecting is done in this way:

  • Enter the Keenetic 4G web configurator, then go to the Internet menu, go to the Modems tab.
  • Click on the modem entry to open the mobile network connection settings window.
  • Make sure that there are marks on the inclusion of the modem, its use to access the Internet.
  • Select your mobile operator from the drop-down list, click on the "Apply" button.

After that, the Internet connection should be established.

Wireless network

To install WiFi on Keenetic 4G, you don't need to make any special efforts. All the main parameters are already written there. The user only has to do the following:

  • change the name of the wireless network (SSID) to easily find it in the list of neighboring networks;
  • set the network key, or password, to enter it.
  • make sure that the checkbox is checked in the item allowing the use of the wireless network ("Enable WPS").

These changes are made in the web configurator in the wireless menu on the Access Point tab. It is not recommended to change other parameters. After setting the necessary settings, you must click on the "Apply" button in each subsection, start the wireless network by clicking on the "Start WPS" button.

Configuring in repeater (repeater), amplifier, adapter or access point modes

Keenetic Internet centers have a wide range of additional settings. They are configured in the modes of a repeater, amplifier or adapter, Wi-Fi access point.

To configure the operating mode, just open the Mode tab in the System menu in the web configurator, check the box next to the required mode. After that, the router will reboot in a new quality.

Previously made settings in the previous mode will be saved; when returning, you just need to switch modes in the web configurator.

IPTV

The positioning of Keenetic 4G as an Internet center suggests that this device can be easily used to watch digital television. And indeed it is. However, there is one caveat. In order to connect IPTV, the Tvport function must be available on the router. It is available in the Keenetic 4G operating system starting from version v2.06 (xxxx) A5. Therefore, before setting up IPTV, you need to make sure that the latest firmware version is installed on the router. Next, you need to do the following:

After clicking the "Apply" button, the set-top box will receive an IP address from the provider and will be able to broadcast digital TV.

IPv6 protocol

Users wishing to use the IPv6 protocol on their Keenetic 4G should make sure that:

  • the provider provides access via this protocol;
  • the firmware version on the router is v2 and higher;
  • the IPv6 component is installed in the firmware (there must be a check mark in the corresponding item in the System menu on the Components tab).

If all conditions are met, the setting is carried out as follows:

Run the following sequence of commands:

  • interface [connection type];
  • ipv6 address auto;
  • interface [connection type] ipv6 prefix auto
    interface [connection type] ipv6 name-servers auto;
  • interface [connection type] ipv6cp;
  • number 0;
  • slaac;
  • exit set net.ipv6.conf.all.forwarding 1;
  • ipv6cp;
  • ipv6 address auto;
  • ipv6 prefix auto
    ipv6 name-servers auto;
  • ipv6 subnet Default bind Home;
  • number 0;
    mode slaac
  • system config-save.

The connection type means PPPoE0, L2TP0 or PPTP0, which are used by the provider.

The network devices are then able to obtain static IPv6 addresses.

Individual settings for user connection

By default, Keenetic 4G has one user - admin. However, if necessary, it is possible to add other users with different levels of access to device control there. In order to do this, you need:

On the Status page, you can see from the list that LAN clients are network devices that are connected by the “master” to the wireless network.

Dynamic DNS support on Keenetic devices appears after installing firmware version v2.03 and later. At first it was carried out through the DNS-master service, and since v2.05 - with many other similar services. Starting from version v2.07, DDNS is configured through its own free Keenetic service - KeenDNS.

To configure DDNS on your Keenetic, you need to do the following:

  1. In the web configurator, go to the Internet menu and go to the DyDNS tab.
  2. Select your service provider from the drop-down list in the "Used service" field.
  3. Enter the domain name, login, password received from the service provider.
  4. Make sure that there is a check mark next to the name of the connection through which the Internet is accessed.

After clicking on the "Apply" button, the dynamic DNS on Keenetic 4G will be activated.

Security Settings

If there is a need to organize multi-level Internet access for home network users, Keenetic 4G implements the ability to use a firewall.

The firewall is configured in the web configurator in the Security menu on the Firewall tab. The sequence of actions is as follows:

  1. Select the name of your network interface in the "Rules for interface" field, click the "Add rule" button.
  2. Select the action option "Allow" or "Deny" in the corresponding field.
  3. Specify the IP address of the device on the home network to which the rule will apply, as well as the destination address. This selects both one address and a subnet, or any destination address.
  4. Specify the type of protocol, if necessary: the port number of the source and destination.
  5. Save the created rule by clicking on the corresponding button.

When setting up a firewall, remember that all created rules are applied in order, from top to bottom. Therefore, permissive rules for a single host must be at the top of the list. At the bottom, you should place the rules regarding the maximum number of hosts or the entire network.

Parental control

Parental control in Keenetic 4G of the third generation is available from the beta version of the NDMS V2.08.B0 router operating system. It is implemented as setting a schedule for a specific network device. To configure it, you need to do the following:

  1. In the web configurator, in the "Home network" menu, open the "Devices" tab.
  2. From the list of devices connected to the network, select the one for which the schedule is created, click on it with the mouse.
  3. In the window that appears, check the box "Permanent IP-address", click on the "Register" button.
  4. Go to the "System" menu to the "Schedule" tab, click on the button that creates a new schedule.

After completing the above steps, a window will appear with the schedule setting, where the time is set, allowing or denying access to the Internet. Then select the devices on the network to which this schedule will be applied.

Keenetic 4G is not only capable of working with PPTP, but also has a built-in VPN server. It provides secure access to the home network from wherever the user is. The VPN server is allowed to be installed starting from the firmware version v2.04.B2.

Setting up the VPN server on Keenetic 4G is as follows:

  1. In the web interface, in the "System" menu on the "Components" tab, make sure that the required component is installed.
  2. In the Applications menu go to the VPN Server tab.
  3. In the "Access to the network" field, select the interface of your router.
  4. Specify the starting address, the size of the pool of addresses connected to the network using the PPTP protocol. In this case, the specified subnet should not be in the same address space with the router.
  5. Allow access to VPN for Keenetic users in the corresponding window.

Users of Windows 7.8, as well as Windows 10, using a default 128-bit key for PPTP, should be aware that work on Kinetic is carried out using a 40-bit key in accordance with legal requirements.

Possible malfunctions and ways to eliminate them

Products from Zyxel, including Keenetic 4G, are famous for their ability to work without any interruptions for a long time. Users should remember that most of the problems that arise can be solved by rebooting the device. But if access to the Internet has not appeared, you should pay attention to the following points:

  • is the Internet connection indicator on the router panel lit? If not, there may be a connection problem with the provider;
  • diagnose the connection using the computer's operating system, perhaps the problem lies precisely in the network settings on the PC;
  • check the network settings on the router itself using the web interface.

If nothing is successful, you should contact the service center for a more in-depth testing of the device by specialists.

Updating the firmware

Firmware update is the most important condition for the successful operation of Keenetic 4G. Installing its current version makes it possible to use the maximum number of useful functions of the device.

1. Connecting a computer to a ZyXel Keenetic 4G router and setting up an Internet connection.

Before you start configuring Zyxel Keenetic 4G, read the attached "Instructions for use" that comes with your router. Next, connect the router to an electrical outlet, then connect the USB antenna cable to the USB interface of the ZyXel Keenetic 4G router, and connect one of the LAN ports of the router with a yellow patch cord (wire) to the network card of your computer.

After that, you need to change the TCP / IP settings of the computer's or laptop's network card to automatically receive the IP address values (DHCP client) from the Keenetic router via LAN and WI-FI interface.

1.1. Setting up a Zyxel Keenetic 4G connection in Windows XP:

Start - Control Panel - Network Connections - Local Area Connection - Properties - Internet Protocol (TCP / IP) Check the boxes opposite: Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically. Next OK

1.2. Setting up a Zyxel Keenetic 4G connection in Windows 7:

Start - type "View network" - select at the top in the search results View network connections - Local area connection - Properties - Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP / IPv4) - Properties Check the boxes opposite: Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically. Next OK

1.3. Monitoring computer connection to the Zyxel Keenetic 4G router

By default, the Zyxel Keenetic 4G router provides IP address values from the 192.168.1.0/24 range, so after a while your computer should receive the required address by itself like: 192.168.1.33. You can track the receipt of the IP address from the router by opening the "Local Area Connections" state. The inscription that says Assigned to DHCP (Windows XP) or DHCP is enabled - Yes (for Windows 7) indicates that the Zyxel Keenetic 4G router successfully issued an internal IP address to the computer via the LAN interface. If this does not happen, then there may be problems with the DHCP client on your computer. Most often this can be caused by the work of firewalls (firewalls), but there are other reasons ... In this case, you need to register the necessary IP addresses in the computer settings manually. To do this, it is enough to specify the following IP parameters on the computer: IP - 192.168.1.101 Subnet mask - 255.255.255.0 Default gateway - 192.168.1.1 DNS - 192.168.1.1

2. Setting up the Zyxel Keenetic 4G router

The configuration process is carried out through the device's web interface. To do this, open your favorite browser and enter the address 192.168.1.1 in the address bar, press Enter. In the window that opens, enter username admin and password the default is 1234.
