Lenovo tab 2 a10 70 comparison. Lenovo TAB A10: specifications and reviews

Tablet computers, especially powerful and inexpensive ones, are in ever-growing demand. Some of the most affordable are the products of Lenovo, which presented an updated line of Tab 2 A series tablets at CES and MWC 2015. Buyers are offered tablets with a screen diagonal of 7, 8 and 10 inches: Lenovo Tab 2 A7-10, A7-30, A8 and A10. As you might guess, the numbers 7, 8 and 10 transparently hint at the size of the screen diagonal.

Main characteristics of the series tablets

Lenovo Tab 2 has the following key specifications:

  • A7-10 and A7-30 run on Android 4.4 with the company's proprietary interface, in the future it is planned to switch to Android 5.0, A8 and A10 - Android 5.0;
  • built on the following hardware platform: A7-10 and A7-30 - quad-core MediaTek MT8382M, A8 - quad-core, 64-bit MediaTek MT8161 (MT8735 for LTE version), A10 - 64-bit MediaTek MT8165 (MT8732 for LTE version);
  • screens with a diagonal of 7, 8, 10 inches and a resolution of 1024 by 600, 1280 by 720 and 1920 by 1080 pixels;
  • A7 is available in “Wi-Fi only” (A7-10) or “Wi-Fi + 3G” (A7-30) versions, A8 and A10 have a version equipped with a 4G LTE modem;
  • Dolby certifications for sound paths.

Appearance, screens and design of tablets

When developing a new series of tablets, Lenovo engineers pursued the goal of creating an inexpensive but solid device that would be convenient and pleasant to use. That is why the cases of all Tab 2 models are made of durable, non-slip and pleasant to the touch plastic. The assembly is thorough, nothing creaks anywhere.

The control buttons on the A7 and A8 models are on the right side, and the headphone and microSD jack is on the top. In the A10, the main orientation of which is not portrait, but landscape, all control buttons and ports are placed on the left side.

In terms of color variety, Lenovo offered the following solutions. The cheapest model Tab 2 A7-10 is available only in black, A7-30 - in black, white, blue and pink, A8 - white, pink and blue, A10 - white and blue.

The screens of the devices in this line vary greatly. All of them are made using IPS technology, but the matrices are of different quality. The most inexpensive device of the line, the A7 tablet, has a matrix with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. This is not very good, the pixel density is low and they are noticeable. The A8 has a better situation, its 8-screen has a resolution of 1280x720 pixels.
The best device in this regard is the flagship of the Tab 2 A10 line. The 10.1-inch screen has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Of course, it's not Retina, but it looks good. All models are good for home use. In sunlight, the brightness has to be twisted completely. Especially the A7 suffers from this, for which the screen fades in the sun.

Hardware platforms and performance

All Lenovo Tab 2 tablets are built on the Mediatek hardware platform. Used quad-core solutions: MT8382M, MediaTek MT8161 (MT8735), MT8165 (MT873) for A7, A8 and A10, respectively. The graphics accelerator in all cases is Mali. The processors for the eight- and ten-inch tablet support a 64-bit instruction set. The chips, although budgetary, like all MediaTek products, are quite productive. This manufacturer is gaining popularity and its solutions are found not only in the products of leading Chinese brands like Lenovo, but also in Sony and HTC, which are the world's leading brands.

In the A8 and A10, depending on the modification, different "systems on a chip" are installed to ensure the lowest cost. In the model with LTE support, a chip is installed in which there is a 4G modem, in tablets with Wi-Fi - chips without a modem. MT8161 and MT8165 differ in performance: the former supports only HD screens, while the MT8165 in the A10 is designed for Full HD. All in all, Lenovo has carefully selected processors that are perfectly matched to other components. Exactly as much as necessary - no more and no less.

The RAM in the seven- and eight-inch models was supplied with 1 GB each, in the top model of the line, A10 - 2 GB. In fact, for the first two models, they left the minimum, which allows you to work normally on current versions of Android OS. Everything is better in the A10 with RAM, 2 GB seems to be the optimal solution today. Moreover, 3 GB is actually installed only in the flagship models of tablets and smartphones.

LTE tablet models A8 and A10 are equipped with modems that support dual SIM. Moreover, the slots for SIM-cards in these tablets are also 2. There is also support for calls. If you wish, you can use these "pills" as very large phablets.

User memory in the A7 and A8 models can be 8 or 16 GB, depending on the modification. The A10 has 16 GB of memory. In any case, this is not enough for storing multimedia data. Requires microSD card. All Lenovo Tab 2 models support cards up to 32GB.

It is impossible to ignore the object of pride of Lenovo engineers - the Dolby Atmos sound path, certified according to the norms of this strict standard. In the A7, the work of this path is noticeable only in headphones. But in the A8 and A10, equipped with two speakers, the careful work on the sound is noticeable already when using them. Everything sounds great in headphones. Of course, the sound quality is a subjective opinion, but it should be noted that Lenovo approaches this issue even more thoroughly than Samsung.

Operating system and interface

Lenovo Tab 2 A7 comes with Android 4.4 KitKat pre-installed, the rest of the tablets come with Android 5.0. In any case, the operating system is reliably hidden behind Lenovo's proprietary user interface. There is nothing special in it, it is easy to figure out the principle of operation and control. The interface works smartly, no lags or freezes are observed.

Lenovo engineers and programmers took care of customers and pre-installed their suite of applications for data transfer, virus protection and backup. You cannot officially get rid of it, you can only uninstall applications by installing a third-party firmware. Basically, Lenovo's ones are not that bad, but Google Play offers other solutions, among which you can find something more convenient.

Cameras

The Lenovo Tab 2 A7 has a review of the cameras only so that the manufacturer can report that they are. The A7-10 is equipped with a 0.3 megapixel front camera, which is sufficient only for video calls. The A7-30 also received a rear-facing camera. But its resolution is only 2 megapixels and it is not possible to take normal photos.

Lenovo Tab 2 A8 and A10 do better with this point. A8 is equipped with a main camera with autofocus and a 5 megapixel sensor. The front camera has a resolution of 2 megapixels. This is already good, you can take good daytime photos. The A10 is still better: the front camera is equipped with a 5 megapixel matrix, the main one is 8 megapixels. This allows you to take pictures with quite acceptable quality, including selfies, if you have a desire to use the tablet for such shooting.

Batteries and battery life

The capacities of the Lenovo Tab 2 batteries are as follows: A7 - 3450 mAh, A8 - 4200 mAh, A10 - 7000 mAh. All devices are able to withstand active use without a charge for about 8-10 hours, depending on the load level. It is clear that the battery is discharged the fastest in 3D games. When surfing the net and reading, the battery life will, of course, be longer.

Main competitors

Acer Iconia One B1-810 Competitor to Lenovo Tab 2 A7 and A8. The tablet uses an Intel Atom chip. The screen is eight-inch, there is a 5 megapixel main camera. The price is comparable.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 Lite Performance and specifications are similar to Lenovo Tab 2 A7. It uses Android 4.1 OS and has a long battery life.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 The tablet has been out for quite some time, but it remains one of the most attractive Android devices in its class. Convenient in work, holds charge well.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 At a price comparable to the Lenovo Tab 2 A10, it has an HD-resolution screen. The performance of the device is at a quite acceptable level, as Samsung makes equipment with a good headroom for the future.

There is nothing unusual in the package - in addition, you will receive documentation and a USB cable that plugs into the charger. If desired, as an additional accessory, you can purchase a branded keyboard for the tablet.

Design

The design of the model is simple and unobtrusive, and this is the appeal of the tablet. It comes in two colors: white and dark blue. Each of them looks very elegant. The case itself is not burdened with any excesses - the front of the screen is bordered by a black frame, and the back of the device is made of matte plastic.

It is worth noting that the plastic surface has a coating, thanks to which the tablet is very comfortable to hold in your hands, however, it collects a lot of fingerprints, so it will need to be well looked after.

The black frame around the display, which is not always to the taste of users, was invented for a reason - it allows you to avoid unnecessary touches and sensor actuations. That is why the manufacturer makes it visible - everything is thought out for your own comfort.

On top of the front side there is a manufacturer's logo, a camera and a light indicator. The volume and off buttons are located on the left side along with the USB port. The headphone jack is located on the top (this is quite convenient), on the back, closer to the edge of the right side, there is a cap, under which the port for memory cards and a SIM are hidden.

In general, the performance is quite enough for all everyday tasks and for using games, but if you want the perfect performance, then you should definitely not look for it in devices of this price category.

Multimedia capabilities

From the review of the screen properties, it becomes clear that the tablet is best suited for multimedia tasks - a bright and beautiful picture will make watching videos, movies fun and comfortable. Since the device has high performance, there will be no problems with downloading streaming video or playing Full HD video.

What about sound? The tablet has a single speaker located on the back of the case at the top, along its entire length. It is made quite interestingly - with a small perforation, which is here not just for beauty, but also to improve the sound.

The speaker emits loud, rich and high-quality sound, the only "but" is its placement, because of which you need to either place the tablet backwards to the user, or have a sound reflector. But this arrangement is quite practical when using the tablet in your hands, when you put it on your lap - in these situations, you will not mute the speaker.

In general, the image and sound in the device are at a decent level, so it will perfectly cope with multimedia tasks. For file storage, there is 16 GB of internal tablet memory, which is expandable up to 64 GB using an external card.

Battery and run time

The device comes with a 7000 mAh battery, which is enough for a tablet with a capacious screen, but not very high processor parameters, since it does not consume much power compared to devices in the high price segment.

On average, the battery life of the Lenovo TAB 2 A10-70L model is 12 hours, which is a very large figure for a tablet with this screen size and internal filling. It will easily hold a charge for several days with average use, it charges in 3-4 hours due to the large volume of the battery.

Such indicators of battery life play in favor of the model, especially when you consider that most of the equipment of this kind needs to be charged every day.

Camera

As usual in the world of tablets, regardless of their price, you should not expect great opportunities from cameras on the Lenovo TAB 2 A10-70L model. The main module of 8 Mpc does not have a flash, but the results of shooting in good lighting can please you - the pictures are obtained with optimal quality and resolution.

In the application, the cameras are provided for adjusting the contrast, white balance and other parameters, the flicker compensation function is noteworthy - it makes better shooting of mobile phone displays or a computer screen.

The 5 megapixel front camera provides decent selfies and copes with video calls without any problems. In general, the cameras on the tablet are not bad - they provide decent quality photos and videos.

Operating system and programs

By default, this model has an Android 4.4 system with the Lenovo Vibe UI shell, but after the first power-up, you can upgrade to version 5.0, and this can be done via a Wi-Fi connection.

The use of programs occurs through a standard list in the menu or using desktops, where they are grouped. The notification panel and the last included applications remain the same, the settings are displayed as an icon with the name of each section.

In addition to the standard set of applications that will allow you to immediately start working, there is a browser, players, settings, an alarm clock, etc., and a synchronization program from the manufacturer has been added. In it, you can create your own "cloud" for storing data, as well as sharing it between different users.

Another interesting addition is the Dolby Atmos app for detailed audio customization. In general, the system leaves a pleasant impression - it is well thought out and easy to use, and there are no malfunctions in operation.

Competitors

If we take into account the rich functionality, good filling and large screen of the Lenovo TAB 2 A10-70L, then in its price segment it has practically no competitors with the same set of advantages.

The exception is Samsung Galaxy Tab A 9.7, which has good parameters, but it has a noticeably worse screen and a higher price, which does not play in its favor.

Advantages and disadvantages

The main advantages of Lenovo TAB 2 A10-70L are as follows:

  • High quality large screen.
  • High performance for its segment.
  • Powerful battery and long battery life.
  • Excellent speaker sound quality.

Among the shortcomings, it is worth noting the inability to make calls and the squeaky body, which, however, did not affect its strength. The rest of the tablet has practically no drawbacks, especially considering its price.

Conclusion

The Lenovo TAB 2 A10-70L is another attractive device that strikes a good balance between cost and functionality.

A complete overview of the functionality allows us to conclude that it has a large and high-quality screen, it holds a charge for a long time and does an excellent job with the work of the system and applications. For such a price, this is a great option for buying, since in this segment you simply will not find other models with similar characteristics.

Who is this tablet suitable for? Almost everyone: for surfing the Internet, listening to music, watching movies, reading and working. Outwardly, it is made with restraint and taste, therefore it is in perfect harmony with its inner content.

The tablet uses 64-bit quad core(Cortex-A53 architecture if you're interested) processor Mediatek MT8165 operating at a frequency of up to 1.7 GHz... Initially it was assumed that it would be limited to 1.5 GHz, but apparently, Lenovo engineers came to the conclusion that it can be slightly increased without fear of overheating. Various utilities have confirmed that the chip actually reaches 1.7 GHz, so this is not just unfounded marketing. The processor is fast enough for a flawless web browser, and 2 GB of RAM allow you to open a decent number of tabs. A pleasant surprise for an inexpensive tablet.

The built-in drive has a fairly high sequential read speed, comparable to more expensive devices, but the rest of the attributes (sequential write, working with 4K blocks) barely reach modern standards. Fortunately, in reality, there is no need to complain about memory: applications open quickly enough, and Android does not take much time to launch. Please note that only 10.5 GB is free in the 16 GB version - it makes sense to pay extra for the 32 GB model, especially since it does not cost much more.

Screen quality and price are two of the most important features of a tablet. There is no shortage of expensive high-end tablets on the market with great displays, however, with similar impressive screens, they are virtually unavailable. This is why the Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L is a special case because it offers 1920 x 1200 pixels in an uncharacteristic price range.

And while it will cost you less than half the price of a high-end tablet, the Lenovo Tab 2 A10 offers more than half the quality. Starting at Rs. 18,000, the 10-inch tablet offers average performance in most aspects - like most other cheap tablets - except for one important feature: screen quality. It is one of the most affordable tablets with a Full HD panel, and in addition to its eye-catching picture, the Lenovo tablet also offers powerful Dolby-powered speakers for extra sound.

On the other hand, the rest of the tablet's details are unremarkable. Its everyday design is somewhat fat, and its considerable weight causes discomfort after prolonged use. The performance also does not exceed the average mark and is suitable, except for average tasks, such as checking e-mail and surfing the web, the speed drops noticeably when loading applications and playing games with rich graphics.

But don't get us wrong, for, the new Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L is an attractive tablet. It's not cheap in a derogatory sense. The tablet really costs less than its strongest competitors. With a sharp display and amazing speakers, you'll be hard-pressed to find anyone else that offers the same for less money. If you're not willing to pay dearly for a video tablet, then the Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L should meet your needs. Review Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L more ...

DesignLenovo Tab 2 A10-70

If you haven't used a skinny tablet like or before, you probably won't notice the waist and weight of the Lenovo Tab 2 A10 right away. This is by no means a brick; it's just that the tablet avoids the term "thin". For an inexpensive tablet, this is common.

The very dark blue plastic back has a smooth texture with a matte finish. Under certain lighting conditions, a thin metallic sheen appears on it. On the top of the back, you'll find speakers that take up the entire width of the tablet, with the exception of the camera in the center, which separates them.

The edges of the Lenovo tablet are flat, with a special rib created to delimit the back panel and the front. No sharp or incredibly jutting edges, your fingers can rest comfortably on the sides of the tablet. From top to bottom, the left edge of the Lenovo tablet covers the power button, volume rocker, Micro USB port, and MicroSD slot. All alone, along the center of the tablet's top edge, you'll find a headphone jack.

The Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L we reviewed offers substantial comfort. The rounded edges are somewhat harsh, but after a while they cut comfortably into the palm. The tablet's weight of 499 grams becomes quite evident in long hands-on sessions. After working with the tablet for a long time, I found myself constantly changing my grip. This is not strange for a mobile device of this size, but compared to the designs of other tablets, including the much more streamlined, Lenovo is inferior. If you hold your tablet in your hand for hours, whether you're watching a movie or chatting on social media, discomfort becomes an annoying aspect of an otherwise enjoyable tablet.

Lenovo Tab 2 A10 Review: The buttons dutifully protrude from the left edge of the tablet.

Features Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L

Not only do they ignore conventional beauty standards, they also skimp on software features. The Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L runs on an almost vanilla version, unlike previous models, it has an application tray that collects all your applications in one place.

Lenovo also downloads some of its own applications, including Browser, Contacts, and Calendar. Lenovo applications also include SyncIT and ShareIT applications. SyncIT allows you to sync your contacts and also provide SD card backup or restore, while ShareIT allows you to share with other tablets, phones and PCs. Apps are not essential solutions, but if you're a beginner, they'll complement your new tablet's functionality with ease of use.

Lenovo Tab 2 A10 Review: The app tray becomes a convenient, centralized place for all your apps.

SpecificationsLenovoTab 2A10-70L

The Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L is powered by a Mediatek MT8165 quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage with a microSD slot that supports cards up to 64GB. Other features include Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a / b / g / n, and an accelerometer.

Lenovo Tab 2 A10 Review: Lightweight for the wallet, but not for the hands.

Performance Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L

The Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L is great for everyday use. You could write emails, check social media, watch streaming videos, everything is just fine. It will deliver slick, albeit not the fastest, performance, and the tablet also slows down somewhat with sequential application load, although this happens with most tablets.

Mobile games like Angry Birds and Candy Crush played without a hitch. Most games take some time to load before the load evens out. If there are no apps open in the background, the review Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L runs smoothly, albeit somewhat slower. Its performance is on par with the strongest competitors. Compared to the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 9.7, it performed much better in gaming tests, albeit slightly worse than the Kindle Fire HD 10.

In games where I need two thumbs on the screen, the Lenovo tablet felt bulky and difficult to navigate. This won't be a problem in one-handed games like Angry Birds. Indeed, a large screen can be quite useful. Overall, I was not disappointed with its gaming performance, however its size and substantial weight may make your experience less enjoyable than I would like.

The Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L offers a screen resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. It's not the sharpest resolution for a tablet, but it's a very serious resolution for a tablet in this price range. HD video looks crisp and detailed with very clear images. Colors on the screen look accurate and rich enough for vivid images, but not oversaturated - as on the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 9.7. Compared to the Kidle HD 10, Amazon's tablet screen is dull, lacking in color and sharpness. Lenovo's 10-inch tablet screen also offers really deep blacks, unlike the competition, however both fall short when it comes to brightness.

While tablets have traditionally neglected speakers, as a result, they have encouraged alternative use of headphones, but Lenovo tablets have ignored the trend. According to the manufacturer, the new Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L carries "soundbars" on the back. The two speakers, separated by the main camera, come under the Dolby brand, but because they are located on the back of the tablet, sound is directed away from your ears, not towards them.

Lenovo Tab 2 A10 Review: The screen is sharper and colors are more accurate than comparable tablets.

Audio sounds better when you use the pre-installed Dolby app. You can change the sound optimization settings for movies, music, or games. When watching movies and games, the sound becomes more intelligible and, thanks to Dolby Atmos technology - which allows the sound to dynamically spread through the space - the sound effects are clear, immersive and crisp. This technology also helps the music, emphasizing vocals beautifully, but the bass is still lacking to give the melody an exciting charm.

Unlike its younger counterpart, the Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L's pair of cameras are quite good for a tablet. The 8MP rear camera captures crisp photos with accurate colors. It is capable of sharply focusing on close-range subjects and distant landscapes. Fortunately for selfie aficionados, the front-facing 5MP camera also promises focus and guarantees accurate colors, although colors can become somewhat washed out in brightly lit rooms.

Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L Review: The midnight blue back panel looks subtle and stylish.

The review of the Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L tablet also did not go without tests, we ran a looped HD video (720p) at medium brightness in Airplane Mode, the tablet lasted 13 hours. For any tablet, especially a tablet with such a large screen, that's an impressive long time.

Final word

Budget tablets that sacrifice good performance and chic design for a low price tend to be difficult to sell. However, the Lenovo Tab 2 A10 is one of the exceptions, thanks to the Full HD panel.

The Amazon Kindle Fire HD 10 and Samsung Galaxy Tab A 9.7 are leading competitors to the Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L. The Kindle Fire HD 10 is similar to Lenovo's tablet, a great tablet for consuming media content, but for a different reason. If you're a member of Amazon Prime, the 10-inch Kindle HD offers easy access to an excellent media library chock-full of TV shows and movies available to stream or download. Its sound systems are superior to Lenovo's, but while its screen is brighter, its resolution is nowhere near as high.

A small drawback - the power button could be made more comfortable to press, although this is not critical.
The headphone jack is on the top - I don't know who is comfortable with that.

Weight, I wish it was a bit lighter
    - the glass of the screen collects prints well.
    - the wi-fi module is rather weak, where others seem to be confidently catching the network, this tablet periodically loses it, but somehow not always. In general, it is not unambiguous with wifa, you need to look at it individually.
    - the power button and volume rocker would probably be better on the right. For some reason, the hand always tries to press on the right.
All of these disadvantages are rather arbitrary and not critical.

    - on the fifth android, wifi freezes and is treated by turning it on and off. Doesn't bother.
    - infuriatingly tight buttons, clearly not made for people.
    - the screen is not glass, but definitely hard plastic and not so good, but better than it was in old tablets
    - there are simply no connectors - headphones and MicroUSB
