Change the Windows 7 start icon. Change the appearance of the Windows Start button

Many computer users running Windows 7 are faced with a situation where the standard shape of the Start button and the appearance of the Taskbar change, and the screen colors become pale and unappetizing. Some users do not pay attention to this, and some are annoyed so much that they are ready to reinstall the operating system. But, in general, it is not difficult to eliminate this problem, and now we will consider methods of solving it.

The standard view of the "Start" button after installing the Windows 7 operating system on the computer is shown in Fig. 1 (see 1 Fig. 1). There you can also see the changed appearance of the button (see 2 Fig. 1). There can be several reasons for changing the appearance of the "Start" button in Windows 7, the main ones being changes in computer performance settings and the appearance of problems with the display of desktop Aero effects. Both of these reasons are eliminated within 2 - 3 minutes.

Changes to computer performance settings

Computer performance in Windows operating systems is a configurable parameter and is configured from the System Properties window on the Advanced tab. To open this window, click the "Start" button (see 1 or 2 of Fig. 1) and in the appeared window of the menu of the "Start" button (see Fig. 2) right-click on the "Computer" button (see 1 Fig. 1). 2). In the appeared context menu (see 2 Fig.2) select "Properties" (see 3 Fig.2).

In the new window "System" (see Fig. 3), select "Additional system parameters" (see 1 Fig. 3). After that, you will see the "System Properties" window, which must be opened on the "Advanced" tab (see 1 Fig.4).

In the "System Properties" window, on the "Advanced" tab (see 1 Fig. 4), select the "Performance" section (see 2 Fig. 4). In this section, click the "Parameters" button (see 3 Fig.4). After that, you will see a new window "Performance Settings" (see Fig. 5).

In the window Fig.5, check the performance settings on the "visual effects" tab (see 1 Fig.5). If you have selected the option "Provide the best performance" (cm2 Fig. 5), then the "Start" button should be reflected in the form of a rectangle (see 2 Fig. 1), and the taskbar should be pale (see 4 Fig. 1) ... In all other cases ("Provide the best look"; "Restore defaults"), the "Start" button should look like a circle (see 1 Fig. 1), and the taskbar should be dark (see 3 Fig. 1) ... In addition, it should be remembered that the setting of visual effects depends on the presence of checkboxes in the corresponding checkboxes (see 3 Fig. 5). If you select the "Provide the best view" setting option, then checkboxes will automatically appear in all checkboxes. If you select the "Provide the best performance" setting, all checkboxes will be automatically removed from the checkboxes. Therefore, if you have a computer of average performance, then it is better to choose the "Restore defaults" setting mode, or (like mine) "Special effects".

If you have not set the performance setting mode "Provide best performance", and the "Start" button looks like a rectangle (see 2 Fig. 1), then you have problems with displaying desktop Aero effects on your computer.

Troubleshoot displaying desktop effectsAero

Open the PC Troubleshooter module. This can be done in several ways, two of which I will give you.

1st way:

On the "Taskbar" in the notification area, click the "Troubleshoot PC problems" button (see 5 Fig.1). A menu will appear above the button (see 6 Fig. 1). In this menu, select the "Open Support Center" item (see 7 Fig.1).

After that, the "Support Center" window will open in front of you (see Fig. 6). Here you need to select the "Troubleshooting" button (see 1 Fig.6).

In the new window "Troubleshoot" (see Fig. 7) select "Display desktop Aero effects" (see 1 Fig. 7).

In the next window "Aero", diagnose and fix problems with "Aero" by clicking the "Next" button (see 1 Fig. 8). After the system restores itself, problems with displaying the "Start" button will disappear.

2nd way:

In the menu of the "Start" button in the "Find programs and files" field (see 4 Fig. 2) enter the phrase "troubleshooting". After that, the first item in the search result will be a link to launch the "Troubleshooting" module (not shown), by clicking on which you will open the window Fig.7. Then proceed as described above.

There are other ways to start Troubleshoot, but there is no point in listing them. You just need to remember that it (the "Troubleshooting" module) is one of the many elements of the "Control Panel" of operating systems of the Windows family.

Change the start button icon in windows 7

Changing the start menu button icon in windows 7 is almost as easy as putting a new wallpaper on your desktop. In this post I will tell you how to do this in order to diversify the look of your windows.

1. Selecting an icon for the Start menu button

A huge collection of menu icons is on Deviantart. Their number is constantly increasing due to the efforts of users.

Especially for the readers of my blog, I have selected the most interesting, in my opinion, Start menu icons. Just click on the link under the picture, then on the "Download File" inscription at the top right of the page:

Aero + start button METRO ORBS Microsoft Metro Start Orbs windows Orb Pack 2 Win7 Start Orbs windows 8 8102 Metro Orb Aero + Glow Start Orb windows 8 New Logo

The complete collection can be found here. And this link will be the most popular Start Menu icons.

2. Windows 7 Start Orb Changer

To change the icon, you need a simple windows 7 Start Orb Changer program.

Windows 7 Start Orb Changer v5 can be downloaded from here. Click on the link and wait a bit - the download should start automatically. If this did not happen, click on the word "here" on the page that opens.

3. Instructions for changing the Start menu icon

1. Download and unzip the contents of the archive with the following icons to any folder:

Unpacked pictures - icons for the Start menu

2. Download and unpack windows 7 Start Orb Changer, launch it.

3. In the running program, press the Change button, select our picture, then press the Open button:

Select and open the Start button icon

4. We are waiting. The desktop should disappear for a few seconds, then reappear with a new Start menu icon. We enjoy the result:

The resulting result. The button changes its appearance depending on the action, as the Start button should behave.

5. If you suddenly need to return the standard icon, just click the Restore button in the windows 7 Start Orb Changer v5 window, or download and install this icon. Also, nothing prevents you from changing the icon to another - just press the Change button again and select another icon.

1. The program for changing icons windows 7 Start Orb Changer is rather "buggy". If during the application of the icon the Desktop disappears and does not appear for several minutes, press the key combination Ctrl + Shift + Esc, in the opened Task Manager, click File - New task (Run ...) - enter without quotes "explorer" and click OK. The desktop will appear.

2. If you are unable to change the icon (for example, the program crashes with an error), try to take ownership of the file "C: \ windows \ explorer.exe". Instructions on how to take ownership (i.e. get full access to the file) are here. This usually solves all problems with changing the icon.

3. If you still cannot change the icon (or it changes to the standard one after restarting windows), click the inconspicuous arrow in the corner of the window ...

Click the small icon in the corner

And select the Change By Editing Resources item there:

After that, the icon will change without problems, but only if you become the owner of the explorer file (see the previous paragraph).

Change the look of the Windows Start button

In windows, you can change the design, themes, desktop background, screensavers and shortcuts. But you cannot change the design of the "Start" button through the standard settings. It displays the Win logo by default. And what if you want to see a different image on the main menu? The only option is to use third-party programs, since the OS itself does not provide the necessary tools. Understand how to change the start button in windows 7, which utilities are suitable for this, and how to use them.

Recovery point

The picture of the main menu is tied to the system service "Explorer.exe" (do not confuse it with the name of the browser). The new icon shouldn't affect Win. But still this is a change in the OS files. And it's better to create a restore point. If something goes wrong, you can return the parameters that were before the icon was installed.

  • Click the Start button.
  • Go to "Control Panel".
  • System menu in the System and Personalization category.
  • Item "Additional parameters". He's on the right.
  • System Protection tab.
  • New button.

Click on Create

  • Come up with a name for the restore point.
  • Wait for the current windows configuration to be saved. In the future, you can return to it if critical errors occur.
  • To make a backup, click the "Restore" button. It's in the System Protection menu. All available points will be there.

Administrator rights

To change the main menu icon, you need full access to "Explorer.exe". This is the service responsible for the explorer. The file is located in the root directory of the C: / windows / system. To edit it, you need administrator rights.

  • Go to this folder.
  • Find "Explorer" and right click on it.
  • Item "Properties".
  • Section "Security".
  • Click the "Change" button.

Now we need to set administrator rights on explorer.exe

  • In the "Permissions for the System group" field, set the value "Full control".
  • Click on "Apply".

You can also open administrative access to the file using the Takeownershipex program. Find it online, download, install and run. There will be two buttons: "Access" and "Restore access". Click on the first one and specify the path to "Explorer".

Back up this file just in case. Just copy it wherever you want. If anything, you can change the edited version to the original one.

Where can I find the badges?

It is better not to put the first art you like from your gallery on the "Start" button. Use images specially designed for this. They are already edited, formatted and sized appropriately. They also have the correct arrangement of objects. Suitable images can be downloaded from 7themes or oformlenie-windows.com. Although there are a lot of resources with free icons.

Possible appearance of the Start button

The file with the icon must have the BMP extension (no background). Make sure that it has three options for icons: for the "normal" button, highlighted and pressed. Try hovering your cursor over the main menu. And you will see that it changes depending on what is done with it. Although no one forbids putting one picture for all "states".

Start Button Changer for windows 7

Start Button Changer is a utility through which you can load a new picture for the main menu. It has a very simple interface. There are only two functions: setting the icon and resetting to the original settings. Suitable only for Win 7. The name of the program translates something like this: "Start Button Converter". Here's how to use it:

  • If the utility is in the archive, unpack it.
  • There should be an executable file with the extension .EXE.

The app has advanced options. To open them, click on the small gray arrow on the bottom right. Only two points are important in them.

  • By Patching Memory. RAM is used to change the main menu.
  • Be Editing Resources. "Eexe" is being edited.

Classic Shell

Classic Shell is suitable for windows 8 and 10. This is a large-scale program for customizing the Start menu. But now we only need icons in it.

  • Download it from classicshell.net. There is a tab called "ALL DOWNLOADS".
  • Start the installation. The Classic Shell Start Menu component is used to work with the design of the main menu. The rest can not be downloaded.

Installing Classic Shell

  • Open the app.
  • On the Menu Style tab, select the All Options option and click OK.
  • You need the classic Win style
  • Check the "Change button image" checkbox.
  • Check the box "Other".
  • Select Image.
  • Indicate the path to it.

If "Start" disappeared

If after installing the icon, the menu bar and all the shortcuts on the desktop disappear, you must restart the explorer.

  1. Start Task Manager. To do this, use the Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys.
  2. Go to File - New Task.
  3. In the input field that opens, write "explorer.exe" without quotes.
  4. Click OK.

The Start button cannot be changed through the personalization settings. There is no such possibility in other parameters of Win either. To put a new icon, you need third-party programs. They edit the system file "Explorer.exe" to which the icons are attached.

Windows 7 start button: how to change the look in the simplest way?

Windows computer users are often very finicky, and over time they no longer like the "native" graphical interface of the system. The Windows 7 start button is no exception. And you can change its appearance.

What you need to change the Start button

First of all, it should be noted that it is not possible to do this by means of the "seven". Therefore, the "Start" button for windows 7, or rather its appearance, is changed exclusively by third-party programs. Next, we will consider one of the most interesting and popular utilities called windows 7 Start Button Changer.

But with her, not everything is so simple. The system, when trying to open it after installation, reports that the application should be started on behalf of the administrator (this is understandable), but when you select the appropriate launch type from the context menu, nothing works. Why? Yes, only because the user, although he seems to be his own administrator on the local computer terminal, does not have the necessary access rights in the global context (after all, there is also a super administrator). Thus, initially, such rights will have to be obtained.

How to change the Windows 7 start button: preliminary steps

The lack of administrator rights is directly related to the explorer.exe file, which is located in the root directory of windows, so you need to start with it.

We make a right click on the file and select the line of access to the properties. On the security tab, select the administrator group and click the change settings button located just below on the right. A list of permissions will appear in the window below, where you should mark all available components, and then confirm the changes made.

At the next stage, we use the "Advanced" button on the same tab, again select the administrator group and proceed to changing the permissions. In the corresponding column, set the "checkboxes" in front of all available lines again, and then confirm the changes again.

It is imperative to make sure that the user specifies the administrator or the owner of the computer (the registration name must be written in the corresponding line).

Practical application of the program

Now the start button for windows 7 can be changed. In practice, this is not difficult. First, we launch the installed utility exclusively on behalf of the administrator. After the steps taken, everything should work fine.

There are two items in the main window: the first one allows you to change the appearance of the button (Select & Change ...), the second is responsible for restoring the original view (Restore Original ...). We are interested in the first line. Click on it, and then find the Sample Orbs directory (this is where the windows 7 Start button icons are stored). We select what we liked and press the open button.

It is important to pay attention to the type of folders. If you need to preview images, the appropriate type is selected in the view menu (a special button on top) (large icons, huge icons - whoever is comfortable with what).

If you need the "Start" button for windows 7 to acquire the classic look provided by the graphical interface of the "seven" itself, we use the second line of restoring the default view in the program. In general, everything is simple.

Conclusion

It remains to add that the above utility was taken solely as an illustrative simple example. There are a lot of applications for changing buttons and, in general, the entire interface. For example, a utility called windows Blind was once very popular. It was she who could customize the system interface very subtly, however, when emulating an OS with a higher rank, it devoured too many resources. But with modern processor chips and the amount of RAM, this problem has disappeared.

As for the primary actions with setting permissions, they will have to be performed in any case, otherwise the system simply will not allow the user to make the appropriate changes in appearance. Yes, before performing all the procedures, it will not hurt to create a system restore point (just in case), otherwise you never know what ...

The start menu is located on the taskbar and is a clickable ball with the windows logo on it. If you click on the ball, our gaze will be presented with a set of recently launched programs and a list of the most necessary items. To make your PC unique and personalized, see how to change the start button in windows 7 of all editions (Maximum, Home Basic, etc.) in this manual.

When installing a theme in Windows 7 OS, in most cases, the "start" remains unchanged, as it is tied to the explorer (explorer.exe). To fit it into the current design, use the programs and pens to change the look.

Changing the start button through windows 7 StartOrbChanger (W7SOC)

Free program W7SOC, which is able to change the start button on windows 7 with a couple of mouse clicks. W7SOC has a simple interface and is easy to operate. She works:

  1. With all DPIs (if the image is too large or small, the utility resizes itself).
  2. With X86 / 32 - bit and X64 / 64 - bit OS versions.
  3. With graphic formats PNG and BMP.

To change the start icon in windows 7, do a few of the following tasks:

1. Download the program here and extract it from the archive.

2. Right-click on w7soc.exe and enable it as administrator.

3. At the main window, the interface is nowhere simpler. The top part shows 3 states of the start button: default, hover and pressed.

The states are followed by 2 buttons:

  1. Change - helps to specify the path to PNG and BMP and changes the start button.
  2. Restore - discards changes and restores the default icon.

To expand the settings, there is an arrow at the bottom right.

4. Click on the arrow and you will see an additional menu. In the picture below the numbers, see the transcript. The menu contains the following items:

  3. Adds a "Start Orb" shortcut to the desktop right-click context menu. This way you can quickly turn on the W7SOC.
  4. Adds a "Set As Start Orb" option to the menu when right-clicking on the PNG and BMP files. When this weave is selected, the appearance of the start button instantly changes.
  5. Turns off the success message.
  6. When you run the utility, it always displays the extended menu.
  7. Shows the execution of the process in cmd. The windows 7 command line is called, a cycle is done and after pressing any key, the start changes and acquires a new icon.

5. Configure W7SOC for yourself and click "Change" and specify the path to the icons. There are already 11 different buttons in the "start buttons" folder, select any and click "open". You can also download it from the net or draw it yourself.

Important! If the taskbar and desktop are gone, open Task Manager, click File - New Task and type explorer.exe in the prompt and press Enter. If nothing works, then in cmd enter the command to restore the SFC / SCANNOW system files, press Enter and wait for the procedure to finish.

Change with windows 7 Start Button Changer (W7SBC)

Another W7SBC utility can change the start menu icon. Worse than the first option, but the result is similar. It is advisable to create a system restore point, or skip this step and use the restore command in case of damage to system files.

1. Download the utility here and extract the archive.

2. Run windows 7 SBC.exe from the W7SBC folder as administrator. Do not change the name of the folder, this action may lead to problems.

3. The current design of the launch will be displayed on the left in the main window. With the help of 1 line, it becomes possible to change the start button in windows 7. The line below restores the default icon. Click line 1 with the rounded logo.

4. Specify the path to the downloaded or finished (10 Sample Orbs folder) bmp file. Click "open". Wait for the explorer to restart and see the result.

If you want to return the "start", then click on the explorer icon to restore the original files. Wait for the explorer to reboot, then, if the situation is successful, you will see such a sign.

If you need to change the start button again, first restore the original, and then put a new icon.

If you have followed the steps, and the start has not changed, do this:

  1. Close the program.
  2. Manually take charge of the C: windowsexplorer.exe path.
  3. Run the program, repeat the steps.

Changing the start button in windows 7 will not be too stressful. For harmony, change the color of the taskbar so that they fully match. Of the 2 programs, W7SOC is preferred, it has a number of flexible settings that expand the functionality.

Create a system restore point. While changing the Start button icon usually does not cause problems, it is wiser to always create a restore point before changing any system files. You can quickly access the system recovery program by clicking on "Start" and searching for the word "recovery". Select Create a restore point from the list of results.

  • Click on the "Create ..."
  • Give a name to the restore point and then click Create.
  • Read this guide for details on how to use System Restore.

Download the program to change the icon of the Start button. While you can use a portable executable editor to find the icon files for the Start button, it's much easier to use a program called Windows 7 Start Button Changer. It is a free program created by a team of enthusiastic Windows 7 users.

  • You can easily find the program on the web using any search engine. Enter "windows 7 start button changer" in the search box. Try downloading the program from The Windows Club developer site to make sure you are installing a secure version.
  • Unzip the program. It does not install like traditional programs, instead you can run it from any folder where you saved it. Read this guide for details on how to extract files from a zip archive, but usually you just need to right-click on the file and select the "Extract Files" command.

Get administrator rights. It often happens that the program for changing the icon of the "Start" button does not start or starts with an error if you do not have administrator rights. To prevent this, take full control of File Explorer and don't face this issue in the future.

    • Open the Windows folder on your hard drive. You will see the file "explorer.exe" in the main Windows folder.
    • Hover over explorer.exe and right-click. You must definitely act on behalf of the Administrator.
    • Open "Properties".
    • Select the "Security" tab.
    • Click on the "Change" button.
    • Select "Allow" next to "Full Control". Click Apply.
  • Rename the icon change program. Open the folder where you extracted the program. Find the file called "Windows 7 Start Button Changer v 2.6.exe1", rename it by removing the "1" at the end of the file name to convert it to a standard EXE file.

If there is a desire to change, to make it more convenient according to your preferences, then launch the "Properties of the taskbar and start menu" window. This requires:

    • right-click on the "Start" button,
    • the context menu of the "Start" button will open,
    • in this menu, left-click on the "Properties" link (Fig. 1):

    Rice. 1 Start menu properties

As a result, we get to the "Properties and Start Menu" window, in which we open the Start menu tab (Fig. 2):

Rice. 2 Properties of the taskbar and start menu in Windows 7

In fig. 2, you can see that in Windows 7 the ability to install the classic view of the Start menu (in one column) has been removed, but a tool for configuring the power button has been added. The Power button action drop-down list (number 1 in Fig. 2) allows you to select what actions will be performed after clicking on this button:

    • user change,
    • ending the session,
    • hibernation,
    • completion of work.

Here you can leave the action, that is, "Shutdown".

Configuring privacy for the Windows 7 Start menu

Windows keeps track of the history of applications you launch and documents you open. You can refuse these functions by unchecking the following checkboxes in the "Privacy" section (number 2 in Fig. 2):

    • "Store and display a list of recently opened programs in the Start menu." If you uncheck the box next to this inscription, then frequently used applications will no longer be displayed in the left column of the Start menu.
    • "Store and display a list of recently opened items in the Start menu and on the taskbar," for example, as Figure 3 shows the most recently opened files for Paint:

Rice. 3 List of recently opened items in the Start menu for Paint

If you uncheck the box next to the inscription "Store and display a list of recently opened items in the Start menu and on the taskbar", then the display of frequently used and recent documents in the jump list will be disabled, for example, in Paint, Word, etc. Then in Fig. 3 for the Paint program there will NOT be a small triangle opposite the Paint name and, of course, there will not be a right panel "Recent" in fig. 3.

By the way, before overhauling the Windows 7 Start menu, I recommend using the help button "How is the Start menu configured?" 2 (- this is still the primary source of information).

Capabilities of the "Customize" button in the "Properties of the taskbar and start menu"

The "Configure" button (number 4 in Fig. 2) opens the window for setting the parameters of the "Start" menu. The upper part of this window contains a fairly large list of settings, as evidenced by the presence of a slider (number 3 in Fig. 4). Most of the settings enable or disable the display of individual menu components in the Start menu:

Rice. 4 Customizing the Windows 7 Start Menu

The Start Menu Customization window (Figure 4) offers two display types:

    • "Display as a menu" (number 1 in Fig. 5) means that when you hover over such an element, its contents will be displayed as a multilevel menu, without going to a separate window (for example, the contents of the "Control Panel" will be displayed).
    • "Display as a link" (number 2 in Fig. 5) - this means that only the name of the element will be displayed (for example, "Devices and Printers"), and its opening will take place in a separate window after clicking on it (for example, by the inscription "Devices and Printers").

Rice. 5 Display as menu and Display as link in Windows Start menu

"Don't show this item" means that the item will NOT appear on the Start menu.

Other parameters of this window (Fig. 4) have the following purpose:

    1. "Highlight recently installed programs." Recently installed app shortcuts will be highlighted to make it easier to find. If you uncheck the box, the labels will NOT differ from other labels.

    2. "Search in other files and libraries." This is setting up search options in libraries using the search form in the Start menu. The options are:

    • "Search in general". The search takes place in the general directories and in the user's personal folders.
    • Don't search. Libraries will not be searched.
    • Do not search in shared folders. The search is carried out only in the user's personal folders.

    3. "Search for programs and components of the control panel." When you enter text in the Search line, the system will search for those elements and programs that are in the Control Panel.

    4. "Large icons". When unchecked, small icons will be used to display actively used applications.

    5. "Control Panel". I recommend that you check the box next to "Display as menu" (then it will be the same as in Fig. 5). This is convenient, since by hovering the mouse over the Control Panel, you can immediately select the desired item, and not open the window.

    6. "Allow context menus and dragging of objects." This checkbox is checked by default, so it's best to leave it that way.

    7. "Expand the menu when the mouse pointer is paused." When the checkbox is selected, the menu will automatically open when the cursor is paused, without clicking the mouse.

    8. Sort "All Programs" by name. By default, this check box is selected, and all items in this menu are sorted by name.

    9. "Devices and Printers" - if you have it connected, then I recommend checking the box here to have access to the printer from the "Start" menu.

How do I adjust the number of programs shown on the Start menu and the number of recently used documents?

The parameter "Show in the list of recently used items in quantity" (number 4 in Fig. 4) corresponds to the number of open files in Fig. 3. Specifically, in fig. 4 given 8 elements and, accordingly, in fig. 3 exactly 8 files are open - exactly like in a pharmacy.

The maximum number of programs that can be set for the item "Display recently used programs in quantity" (number 5 in Fig. 4) is 30.

The maximum number of documents for the item "Display in the list of recently used items in quantity" (number 4 in Fig. 4) is 60.

If there are no special preferences, then for novice users, all the settings of the "Start" menu can be left by default, that is, the same as they were set by the Windows 7 programmers.

How do I pin a program to the Start menu?

By default, the last running programs on your computer are displayed in the list of programs in the left column of the Windows 7 Start menu. You can pin frequently used programs to the Start menu for quick access to them.

To do this, select the appropriate program in the Start menu by clicking on the link at the end of the All Programs menu. Having found the program, click on it with the right mouse button and in the menu that appears, click on the option "Pin to the Start menu" (Fig. 6):

Rice. 6 How do I pin a program to the Windows 7 Start menu?

A pinned program will appear at the top of the Start menu and will be separated by a line from the list of recently opened programs.

How do I uninstall a program from the Start menu?

I draw your attention to the fact that we are only talking about removing the link to the program from the Start menu, while the program itself remains on the computer.

To remove a program from the Start menu, click on the name of the program in the Start menu, in the window that appears, click on the "Remove from Start Menu" option.

Windows 7 has a wide range of functionality for personalizing, changing the style of the appearance of most of the controls. Many users, especially those who recently upgraded to 7 from XP, are still tormented by nostalgia for the familiar interface. I especially want to change the Start panel.

    Install the classic theme

Windows 7 has several pre-installed themes. Among them there are basic ones that can radically change the graphical display of the interface of the entire OS. Including returning the Start panel to its classic look. Also, the use of simplified themes can significantly save the power of the processor, video card and RAM. To change the OS theme to classic, you need to do the following:

    • Start menu.
    • We select "Control Panel".
    • Here we find the item "Personalization".

You can also get here in another way. Straight from your desktop. This way of transition is much faster and occurs through the submenu of the right mouse button.

    • We press on the desktop with the right key.
    • We select the bottom item "Personalization".
    • In the window "Change sound and picture on a computer" go to "Basic (simplified) themes".
    • Click on the icon of the "Classic" theme to activate it.

After that, the graphical display of all elements of the Windows 7 OS interface will become classic. Including the Start panel. You can change the theme to the previous one by clicking on its mouse icon (left key).

We set everything up in detail

We managed to bring the Start panel to its classic look. But all the same, the desired result may not be entirely satisfactory. Therefore, we will configure this panel in detail. To do this, you need to do the following:

    1. Right-click in any free space of the "Start" panel and go through the "Properties".
    2. We go to the "Properties of the taskbar and start menu".
    3. Go to the "Start Menu" tab.
    4. Here you can set the action of the "Shut down" button in Windows 7.
    5. To change the display and behavior of each of the groups of elements, go to the "Customize Start Menu" dialog box via the "Customize" button.
    6. Here you can also set the number of items displayed in the menu.

Configuring using the Classic Shell program

If you lack the capabilities and such fine tuning of the "Start" in Windows 7, then you need a small utility Classic Shell. With its help, you can customize the display of not only the start menu, but also the explorer, return the classic look of IE 9. It is completely free. And its Russified version can be downloaded from the developer's website. Need to do.
